Emma L. Munson
Emma Lela Munson, 82, of 18810 Eliason Way, Hagerstown, died Monday, Sept. 8, 1997, at Avalon Manor Nursing Home, Hagerstown.
Born March 31, 1915, in Williamsport, she was the daughter of the late Herbert and Laura Ardinger Martin.
She formerly was employed by Leiter Brothers Department Store and later retired from Fairchild Aircraft Inc.
She was a member of Calvary Grace Brethren Church.
She is survived by her husband, Preston Albertus Munson; one daughter, Constance Cash of Miami; one sister, Hazel Hedden of Hagerstown; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Dorine Bachtell and Pauline Stotler; and two brothers, Boyd Martin and Morris Martin.
Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown. The Rev. Douglas A. Courter will officiate. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Park, Williamsport.
Visitation will be at the funeral home Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m.
Michael E. Davis
MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Michael E. Davis, 36, of Rt. 2, Martinsburg, died Wednesday, Sept. 10, 1997, in Antrim Township, Franklin County, Pa.
Born June 28, 1961, in Washington, D.C., he was the son of Charles W. Davis of Virginia Beach, Va., and Sandra Maloney Riermann of Rockville, Md.
He was a 1980 graduate of Hedgesville High School and attended Shepherd College.
He was a professional musician and was well known throughout the East Coast performing with the band "The Beatless".
He was a member of the United States Professional Tennis Association.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by one sister, Lisa Davis Sperow of Martinsburg; one brother, Mark Davis of Virginia Beach, Va.; and maternal grandmother, Phyllis Maloney of Silver Spring, Md.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church. The Rev. William J. Nolte Jr. will be celebrant. Burial will be private.
The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home.
The family will meet at the funeral home at 12:30 p.m. Saturday before going to the church.
Frances A. DeHaven
MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Frances A. DeHaven, 52, of Martinsburg, died Wednesday, Sept. 10, 1997, at Winchester Medical Center.
Born Nov. 6, 1944, in Berkeley County, she was the daughter of the late Gerald F. and Imogene C. Butts Johnson.
She was a 1962 graduate of Martinsburg High School.
She was a supervisor at Royce Hosiery Mills, with 23 years of service.
She was a member of Church of Christ in Charles Town.
She is survived by her husband, Grover L. DeHaven, whom she married on Sept. 27, 1969; two sisters, Vivian L. Aikens of Martinsburg, and Madeline E. Barney of Hedgesville; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles C. "Butch" Johnson and Gerald L. "Jerry" Johnson, and by an infant sister, Tina M. Johnson.
Services will be Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home. The Rev. Dwane Casteel will officiate. Burial will be in Providence Cemetery, west of Hedgesville.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 7 to 9 p.m.
Coulter Huyler Jr.
Coulter Huyler Jr., 85, of Hagerstown, died Thursday, Sept. 4, 1997 in Rockville, Md.
He was a graduate of Kent School and Princeton University, magna cum laude.
His first wife, Lola Ann McFadin Huyler, preceded him in death.
He worked for J. Walter Thompson Advertising Company in New York City, before joining the U.S. Army. He served in the Army in Counterintelligence in the New York area and in Egypt, Arabia, the Holy Land, and India as liaison officer with the British. He joined the Foreign Service in 1946. Before retiring from the Foreign Service, he served in The Hague and Paris, both with NATO and UNESCO; and in Washington, D.C.
During his retirement, he completed hospice training and served as a volunteer with hospice for a number of years. He also ran a bed and breakfast called "Scratchankle" Bed and Breakfast on his farm in Beaver Creek.
He is survived by one daughter, Anne Huyler Baker of Bethesda; one son, Coulter Dunham Huyler III; one brother, John S. Huyler of Jackson Hole, Wyo.; and three grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Margaret Lee Huyler.
A memorial service will be held Saturday at noon at St. Columba's Episcopal Church, 4201 Albermarle St., N.W., Washington, D.C. Burial will be private.

Nancy A. S. Lucas
SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. - Nancy Alburtis Small Lucas, 83, of Shepherdstown, died Wednesday, Sept. 3, 1997, at Canterbury of Shepherdstown.
Born in Berkeley County, she was the daughter of the late Wendell S. Small and Louise Showers Small.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, S. Brooks Lucas.
She was a graduate of Martinsburg High School and Shepherd College.
She was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Shepherdstown.
She is survived by two sons, John T. Lucas of Martinsburg, and David G. Lucas of Olney, Md.; two brothers, William B. Small and George W. Small, both of Martinsburg; and four grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Phillip L. Small.
A private memorial service was at Trinity Episcopal Church in Shepherdstown. The Rev. G.T. Schramm officiated. Burial was in Elmwood Cemetery.

Harvey W. Swartz
BUNKER HILL, W.Va. - Harvey William Swartz, 85, of Bunker Hill, died Wednesday, Sept. 10, 1997, at his home.
Born in Frederick County, Va., Feb. 14, 1912, he was the son of the late Albert N. and Daisy Bennett Swartz.
His first wife, Viola Dayton Swartz, died in 1981.
He was a retired farmer and construction worker.
He was a member of Church of God in Halltown, W.Va.
He is survived by his wife of 13 years, L. Ethel Swartz, at home; one daughter, Anna Fogle of Inwood; one son, Lester H. Swartz of Martinsburg; two stepdaughters, Freda Shiley of Winchester and Audrey Marpole of Inwood, W.Va.; three stepsons, Richard and Robert Swartz, both of Winchester, Va., and William Swartz of Clearbrook, Va.; one sister, Della Dunlap of Brucetown, Va.; one brother, Paul Swartz of Winchester; four grandchildren; 20 stepgrandchildren; a number of great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one stepson, Merle Swartz Sr.; one sister, Linda Dunlap; and six brothers, Elmer Swartz, Lawrence Swartz, Roy Swartz, Melvin Swartz, Donald Swartz and Luther Swartz.
Services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at Rosedale Funeral Chapel in Martinsburg. The Rev. Ollie Baer will officiate.

Kathryn I. Pheil
FAYETTEVILLE, Pa. - Kathryn I. Pheil, 80, a resident of Piney Mountain, and formerly of 245 Martin Ave., Chambersburg, Pa., died Wednesday, Sept. 10, 1997, at Piney Mountain.
Born May 9, 1917, in Chambersburg, she was the daughter of the late John Friese and Dora M. Shatzer Friese.
Her husband, Quentin H. Pheil, died in 1993.
She retired from H.J. Heinz Co. in Chambersburg, with more than 30 years of service.
She was a member of King Street United Brethren Church in Chambersburg, and the Buds of Promise Sunday school class.
She is survived by one daughter, Donna J. Hamilton of Chambersburg; one sister, June Foust of Chambersburg; two brothers, Kenneth J. Friese and Carl A. Friese, both of Chambersburg; one granddaughter; and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two brothers.
Services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg. The Rev. Lester F. Stine and the Rev. Paul B. Baker will officiate. Burial will be in Parklawns Memorial Gardens in Chambersburg.
A viewing will be held at the funeral home today from 7 to 9 p.m.
Edward A. Mumaw
MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Edward A. Mumaw 61, of Martinsburg, died Wednesday, Sept. 10, 1997, at Avante Nursing Home, Harrisonburg.
Born June 2, 1936, in Berkeley County, he is the son of Violet Mary Penwell Mumaw of Martinsburg and the late Alston Mumaw.
He was employed by United States Silica in Berkeley Springs, and was post treasurer of Teamsters Local 992.
He was a veteran of the United States Army during the Korean War.
He was a past president of Hedgesville Boosters Club.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Annie Hicks Mumaw of Martinsburg; one daughter, Deborah Mumaw of Hagerstown; one son, Timothy Mumaw of Falling Waters; one stepdaughter, Betty Saville of Martinsburg; one stepson, Johnny Morgan of Martinsburg; one sister, Delores Foltz of Martinsburg; and eight grandchildren.
Services will be Sunday at 1:30 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home in Martinsburg. The Rev. Raymond E. Jones will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant View Memory Gardens.

Mary C. Martin
MAUGANSVILLE - Mary Catherine Martin, 83, of 13841 Village Mill Drive, died Wednesday, Sept. 10, 1997, at Washington County Hospital from injuries received in an automobile accident Wednesday in Hagerstown.
Born Nov. 17, 1913, in Paramount, she was the daughter of the late Henry and Fannie C. Gsell Parmer.
Her husband, Clarence S. Martin, died in 1981.
She was a homemaker.
She was a member of Maranatha Brethren Church in Hagerstown, and the adult Sunday school class. She also served as a deaconness of the church.
She was a member of Gideon International Auxiliary.
She is survived by two sons, Richard E. Martin of LaGrange, Ind., and Derald L. Martin of Maugansville; four grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Edgar Parmer and Samuel Parmer.
Services will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at Cedar Grove Mennonite Church, 13343 Williamsport Pike, Greencastle, Pa. The Rev. Jay M. Fretz and the Rev. Ron Shank will officiate. Burial will be in the adjoining church cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Harold M. Zimmerman and Sun Funeral Home, 45 S. Carlisle St., Greencastle, Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m., and at the church one hour prior to the service on Sunday.

Henry S. Walters
Henry Samuel Walters, 83, formerly of Broadfording Road, Hagerstown, died Thursday, Sept. 11, 1997, at Garlock Manor Nursing Home, Hagerstown.
Born March 8, 1914, in Shippensburg, Pa., he was the son of the late Harry C. and Susan Gontz Walters.
He was employed for 30 years by Fridinger Co., retiring in 1978.
A veteran of World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy.
He was a member of Church of the Brethren, Shippensburg.
He was a former member of the VFW, Hagerstown. He was a member of Moose Lodge 212.
He is survived by his wife, Cora M. Walters; six daughters, Patricia Eichelberger and Helen Bowers, both of Williamsport, Margaret L. Hawbaker and Janet Custer, both of Hagerstown, Martha Gehr of Florida and Carol Martin of Clear Spring; five sons, Henry C. Walters, William C. Walters, James E. Walters and Robert L. Walters, all of Hagerstown, and Gary Wayne Walters of Oklahoma; 39 grandchildren; 48 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles B. Walters and George A. Walters; and one grandson.
Services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. William Stoner will officiate. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Park, Williamsport.
