Robert T. Hill

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Robert T. Hill, 73, of 9456 Circle Drive, died Tuesday, Sept. 9, 1997, at Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Martinsburg, W.Va.

Born Feb. 6, 1924, in Edenville, Pa., he was the son of the late Frank and Bessie Mabel Shatzer Hill.

Prior to retirement, he was employed as a shipping supervisor at Letterkenny Army Depot, Chambersburg.

A veteran of World War II, he served with the U.S. Army in the European Theater. He received a Purple Heart.

He was a life member of Disabled American Veterans.

He is survived by his companion of 40 years, Hope H. Seville of Chambersburg; one sister, Faye Shover of Edenville; and one brother, Gary T. Hill of Chambersburg.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Dorothy Hershey and Peggy Christman; and one brother, Irven "Bink" Hill.

Services will be Friday at 10 a.m. at Kelso-Cornelius Funeral Home, 6492 Lincoln Way West, St. Thomas, Pa. The Rev. Ronald Strader will officiate. Burial will be in St. Thomas Cemetery. Military graveside services will be conducted by Detrich-Brechbill Post 612 Honor Guard.

Visitation will be at the funeral home today from 2 to 9 p.m. and Friday one hour prior to the service.

Memorial donations may be made to Edenville United Methodist Church, Edenville, Pa.; or American Cancer Society, 452 E. King St., Chambersburg, Pa. 17201.

Betty L.H. Teunis

CLEAR SPRING - Betty Lu Hill Teunis of Clear Spring died Tuesday, Sept. 9, 1997.

She is survived by her husband, Dr. Robert H. Teunis Sr.; one daughter, Andrea Thomas; two sons, Dr. Robert Teunis and Dr. Mark Teunis; one brother, Winslow S. Hill of Fluvanna, Texas; and 10 grandchildren.

Services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at Central Baptist Church, 7271 Muncaster Mill Road, Gaithersburg, Md. Burial will be in Parklawn Memorial Park.

Friends may call at Devol Funeral Home, 10 E. Deerpark Drive, Gaithersburg, today from 6 to 8 p.m., and at the church on Friday from 10:15 to 11 a.m.

Memorial donations may be made to Clear Spring Lions Club.

Marion M. McGehee

FAYETTEVILLE, Pa. - Marion M. McGehee, 81, of 4568 Newman Road, died Tuesday, Sept. 9, 1997, at her home.

Born April 15, 1916, in Chambersburg, Pa., she was the daughter of the late R. Ray and Melissa Bietsch Michaels.

She was a graduate of Chambersburg High School.

She and her husband owned the former McGehee Grocery Store. She had been a homemaker, and also worked at the former Stanley Co. and Letterkenny Army Depot.

She was a member of Second Evangelical Lutheran Church.

She is survived by her husband of 50 years, C. Wallace McGehee; two daughters, Linda Miller and Sherryl Jones, both of Scotland, Pa.; two sisters, Virginia Weaver and Rosalie Snider, both of Chambersburg; one brother, Robert Michaels of Chambersburg; and one grandson.

She was preceded in death by one granddaughter.

Services will be held Friday at 10 a.m. in the chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg. Pastor Ruth E. Smith will officiate. Burial will be in Norland Cemetery, Chambersburg.

The family requests the omission of flowers. Memorial donations may be made to Summit Home Health Hospice Fund, 176 S. Coldbrook Ave., Chambersburg, Pa. 17201.

Landis E. Risser

Landis E. Risser, 90, a resident of Mennonite Fellowship Home, 12349 Huyett Lane, Hagerstown, and formerly of Leitersburg Pike, Hagerstown, died Wednesday, Sept. 10, 1997, at the home.

Born March 12, 1907, near Reid, Md., he was the son of the late John D. and Susan Eshleman Risser.

He was the original owner and operator of Hi-Way Furniture Mart of Hagerstown.

He was a member of Miller's Mennonite Church near Leitersburg.

He is survived by his wife, Rhoda B. Horst Risser, whom he married July 30, 1931; two daughters, Lois M. Martin of Maugansville, and Betty L. Martin of Waynesboro; three sons, John D. Risser of Dayton, Va., Robert L. Risser of Waynesboro, and Daniel E. Risser of Taylorsville, N.C.; three sisters, Anna Martin of Waynesboro, Alice Showalter of Greencastle and Martha Shank of Hagerstown; 24 grandchildren; and 40 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by an infant daughter; and his brother, John E. Risser.

Services will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at Paradise Mennonite Church, corner of Paradise Church Road and Airview Road, Hagerstown. The Miller's Mennonite Church ministry will officiate. Burial will be in the adjoining church cemetery. The family will receive friends at Paradise Mennonite Church, Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. and one hour prior to the service on Saturday.

The family requests the omission of flowers.

Andrew Gesford

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Andrew Gesford, 61, of Martinsburg, died Tuesday, Sept. 9, 1997, at City Hospital.

Born Nov. 18, 1935, in Berkeley County, he was the son of the late Otho C. and Cecelia Stratiff Gesford.

He was preceded in death by his wife Nancy L. Gesford on June 19, 1990.

He was a member of the Johnsontown Bible Church.

He was a former member of Berkeley County Police Reserves.

He was a retired U.S. Army veteran, serving in the Vietnam War and the Korean War. He also was retired from the Veteran Affairs Medical Center, where he had worked in the food service.

He is survived by three daughters, Tracy Gesford and Karen Cutlip, both of Martinsburg and Tina Jones of Charles Town, W.Va.; one son, Fred Pearrell of Hedgesville; two sisters, Elizabeth Braithwaite of Martinsburg with whom he resided, and Cecelia M. Grim of Spring Mills; eight brothers, Bernard Gesford of El Paso, Texas, George Gesford of Hedgesville, Albert Gesford of Falling Waters, Theodore R. Gesford of Bunker Hill, Adolph R. Gesford and twin Amos Gesford, both of Martinsburg, John Gesford of Shanghai, W.Va. and Marvin Gesford of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; eight grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Otho Gesford Jr. and Curtis L. Gesford, and one sister Emma Robinson.

Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Rosedale Funeral Chapel. The Rev. Jack Rudy will officiate. Burial will be in Rosedale Cemetery.

The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

There will be a private family viewing from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Onnie B. Funk

WILLIAMSPORT - Onnie Ballard Funk, 87, of Homewood at Williamsport, and formerly of 415 Guilford Ave., Hagerstown, died Wednesday, Sept. 10, 1997, at Homewood.

Born July 27, 1910, in Spring Valley, Va., he was the son of the late John William and Mallie Elizabeth Funk.

His wife, Mary Church Funk, died in 1993.

He owned and operated O.B. Funk Plumbing and Heating.

He was a veteran of World War II serving with the U.S. Army.

He was a charter member of Maranatha Brethren Church, and the Ambassador Sunday School Class.

He also was a member of AARP.

He is survived by two sisters, Agnes Manley and Eva Bonebrake, both of Hagerstown; a number of nieces and nephews; and friend, Marie Hicks of Hagerstown, who cared for him.

He was preceded in death by four sisters, Loraine "Billie" Norman, Ella Jenkins, Edith Rhudy, and Ethel Roberts; two brothers, Rena Funk and Dewey Funk.

Services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Jay Fretz will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery.

There will be no viewing.

The family requests the omission of flowers. Memorial donations may be made to Ambassador Sunday School Class of Maranatha Brethren Church, 19835 Scott Hill Drive, Hagerstown, Md. 21742.

Kristin R. Grosh

BIG POOL, Md. - Kristin Reed Grosh, 36, of 12948 Pecktonville Rd., Big Pool, died Wednesday, Sept. 10, 1997, at the home of her parents in Big Pool.

Born Nov. 25, 1960, in Hagerstown, she is the daughter of Freida L. Shives Reed and Warren E. Reed.

She was a 1978 graduate of Clear Spring High School.

She was a former teller at Harris Savings Bank in Hagerstown. She also served as Election Site Chief Judge for the Democratic Party.

She was a member of St. Anns Catholic Church in Hagerstown, and St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church of Berkeley Springs, W.Va.

In addition to her parents, she is survived by her husband, Henry E. Grosh Jr. of Big Pool; one sister, Mary Ellen Reed of Hagerstown; one brother, W. Donovan Reed of Cumberland, Md.; one niece and one nephew.

She was preceded in death by one brother, Jeffrey L. Reed in 1988.

The family will receive friends Friday from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at Donald E. Thompson Funeral Home Inc., 13607 National Pike, Clear Spring. A prayer will be offered and burial will immediately follow at Parkhead Cemetery in Big Pool.

A memorial service will be at 12 noon at Parkhead United Methodist Church in Big Pool.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Hospice of Washington County, 101 E. Baltimore St., Hagerstown, MD. 21740.

Joseph G. Gruber

MIDDLEWAY, W.Va. - Joseph George Gruber, 87, of Middleway, died Wednesday, Sept. 10, 1997, at Winchester Medical Center, Winchester, Va.

Born May 7, 1910, in Jefferson County, he was the son of the late George Jacob and Clara Glover Gruber.

He was a 1930 graduate of Charles Town High School and attended Shepherd College, Shepherdstown, W.Va.

He owned and operated Gruber Dairy Farms in Middleway for more than 70 years.

He was a member of the Grace Episcopal Church in Middleway.

He was a charter member of the South Jefferson Ruritan Club, Jefferson County Farm Bureau, former member and director emeritus of the Farmers and Mechanic's Mutual Insurance Co., Martinsburg. He was initiated into Triluminar Lodge No. 117 at Middleway, raised to Sublime Degree of Master Mason, and was elected master of his lodge and served as secretary.

He was a member of Bethesda Chapter No. 16 in Middleway, and served as High Priest of his chapter. He received the title of Anointed High Priest.

He was made a member of Potomac Commandery No. 5 Knights Templar at Shepherdstown and was elected Commander of Potomac Commandery. He also was elected Prelate.

He was a member of Shenandoah Priory Knights of York Cross of Honor and served as Eminent Prior.

He was a member of Martinsburg Lodge of Perfection and belonged to Wheeling Consistory. He also has been a member of Osiris Shrine.

He is survived by his wife Mary Mason Gruber, whom he married April 20, 1946; two sons, George J. Gruber of Middleway and Robert H. Gruber of Summit Point, W.Va.; one sister, Elizabeth Dailey of Kearneysville, W.Va.; four grandchildren; and two stepgrandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Virginia L. Pierce.

Services will be Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at Grace Episcopal Church in Middleway. The Rev. John Alfriend, Rev. Edward Greene, and the Rev. Jane Kampster will officiate. Burial will be in Middleway Masonic Cemetery in Middleway.

The family will receive friends Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home.

Aileen Meyers

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Aileen Meyers, 95, a resident of Menno-Haven Nursing Home, Chambersburg, and formerly of West King St., Chambersburg, died Tuesday, Sept. 9, 1997, at the home.

Born July 10, 1902, in Mercersburg, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Esli Shartle and Anna Latshaw Meyers.

She was a graduate of the former Hood Seminary in Frederick and Wilson College in Chambersburg, receiving a bachelor of arts degree.

She was employed as a elementary school teacher for six years, followed by a career in social work with the state of Pennsylvania Emergency Relief Board, Mothers' Assistance Fund and Pennsylvania Public Assistance where she was the County Executive Director. She was in genealogical research, primarily on her own family line. She was a volunteer for Kittochtinney Historical Society in the society's library, Franklin Company Chapter of DAR, Franklin Company Heritage Inc., and Cumberland Valley Chapter 1812 of American Colonists.

She was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ in Mercersburg.

She is survived by a niece, Beverly Ronald Loos of Orinda, Calif.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister and brother.

Services will be Friday at 2:30 p.m. at Lininger-Fries Funeral Home, 47 N. Park Avenue, Mercersburg. The Rev. Barron P. Barley will officiate. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in Mercersburg.

The viewing is one hour prior to the services, Friday at the funeral home.
