March 11, 2000

Louise Marshall McNeal, of Wittman, died at the Genesis Eldercare- The Pines, Easton, on Saturday, March 11, 2000. She was 79.

Born in Talbot County, May 31, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Harvey Robert and Rosa Emma Jones Marshall. After attending public schools in Talbot County, she worked for a number of years as a nurses aide at Memorial Hospital, Easton, and as a private duty nurses aide.

A member of Asbury United Methodist Church in Wittman, she was a member and past president of the United Methodist Women of the church.

Her husband, Carroll Floyd McNeal whom she married in Easton on Dec. 24, 1938, died on Sept. 1, 1996.

Mrs. McNeal is survived by two daughters, Ruth Ann Fluharty of Wye Mills and Rosalie Ellen McNeal of Easton; two sons, Carroll Robert McNeal and Richard Alan McNeal, both of Wittman; a sister, Katherine Engle of Preston; four grandchildren; Lisa M. McNeal, David C. Jones Jr., Timothy G. Jones, Steven R. Jones, and seven great-grandchildren. A sister Mary E. Royer is deceased.

Funeral services will be held at Fellows, Helfenbein and Newnam Funeral Home, Easton on Wednesday, March 15th at 2:00pm where friends may call one hour prior to service.

Burial will be at Landing Neck Cemetery, Trappe.

Memorial donations may be made to the Asbury United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 202 Wittman, Md. 21676.

Peter Joseph Ramos of Chester, MD. formerly of Milford, CT. Died Saturday March 11, 2000 at the Corsica Hills Nursing Center in Centreville, MD. He was 72.

Born on November 4, 1927 in Bridgeport, CT. He was the son of the late Joseph Carlos and Emelia J. Freitas Ramos. He attended school in CT. Mr. Ramos later married Lydia Marie Faria and they resided in CT. Where he was a self employed Building Contractor. He later moved to Chester, MD. to resided with his daughter’s family. He is survived by two (2) sons Joseph Carlos Ramos of Monroe, CT; and Peter Joseph Ramos, Jr. of Orange, CT. Five (5) daughters Emelia Lydia Conkling of Stratford, CT; Linda Lydia Dunn of Chester, MD.; Cynthia Lydia Heyman of Stratford, Conn.; Amber-Lynn Lydia Schaeffer of Round Rock, TX.; and Lisa Lydia Buonocore of Southington, Conn. Five (5) brothers Manuel Ramos, Edmund Ramos, and James Ramos all of Milford, CT.; Carlos Ramos of New Bedford, MA.; and Jose Ramos of Bridgeport, CT., Three (3) sisters Josepha Embers of Milford, CT.; Constancia Senteio of Bridgeport, CT.; and Margaret Diaz of New Haven, CT. and 12 Grandchildren. A brother Amtonio Ramos, twin brother Paul Ramos and a sister Julia Soares all predeceased him.

Funeral Mass will be held 10:30AM on Wednesday March 15, 2000 at the St. Anne’s Church in Devon, CT. Family and Friends may call at the Cody and White Funeral Home in Milford, CT. on Tuesday March 14, 2000 between the hours of 4PM to 8PM.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers memorial contributions be made to the Diabetes Association 114 Baptist Street Salisbury, MD. 21801 or the Kidney Foundation c/o Renal Treatment Center Emergency Patient Fund 402 Marvel Court Easton, MD. 21601.

March 10, 2000

Anna Mae Hutchison, of Preston, died on Friday March 10, 2000. She was 71.

Born in Easton on October 1, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Clifford and Mabel Joseph Foreman. After graduating from Easton High School in 1945, she married J. Ray Hutchison. They made their home in Queen Anne until 1993 when she moved to Preston. Mr Hutchison died in 1995.

Mrs. Hutchison is survived by three daughters: Lois DeRosa of Lancaster, Pa., Meri Mangus of New Haven, Ct., and Joan Flowers of Kinston, NC.; two brothers, Frank Foreman and Everett Foreman, both of Easton; two sisters, Marie Chance of Preston and Virginia Larrimore of Easton and three grandsons.

Funeral services will be held at the Fellows, Helfenbein and Newnam Funeral Home, Easton on Tuesday March 14, 2000 at 11:00 A.M. where friends may call one hour prior to the service.

Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery.

Margaret E. Breslin of Rock Hall, Maryland died on March 10, 2000 at Kent and Queen Anne’s Hospital. She was 77.

She was born in Lancaster, Pa. on January 26, 1923, the daughter of the late Louis and Myrtle Hubert Braas. She is the wife of Joseph H. Breslin whom she married in 1943.

While she spent most of her life in Lancaster, Pa. she moved to Rock Hall, Md. upon her husbands retirement in 1984. Margaret was a homemaker and enjoyed bingo, cooking, and living near the water. She was a member of Sgt. Preston Ashley American Legion Post #228 Ladies Auxiliary in Rock Hall, Md. and a former member of the Loyal Order of Elks Ladies Auxiliary in Chestertown, Md.

In addition to her husband of 57 years she is also survived by nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday March 16, 2000 at 3:00 P.M. at Fellows, Helfenbein and Newnam Funeral Home 130 Speer Rd. Chestertown, Md. Relatives and friends may call one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society Chestertown Unit P.O. Box 711 Chestertown, Md. 21620 or the American Cancer Society Lancaster Unit 615 Community Way Lancaster, Pa. 17603.

March 9, 2000

Mildred Salmon Stafford, of Easton, died on March 9, 2000 at the William Hill Manor, Easton, where she had lived for the past eleven years. She was 97.

Born in Easton, August 7, 1902, she was the daughter of the late Joseph W. and Mamie Roe Salmon. She was an early graduate of Goldey Beacom College in Wilmington and worked during World War 11 for the Department of Agriculture in Easton.

A lifelong resident of the Eastern Shore, she was a member of the Easton Historical Society, Talbot County Women's Club, Talbot Country Club and St. Mark's United Methodist Church.

Her husband, Earle Wesley Stafford whom she married in 1921, died in 1962.

Mrs. Stafford is survived by a daughter, Weslia Stafford Johnson of Annapolis; three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Memorial Services will be held at the William Hill Manor Auditorium, Easton, on Tuesday, March 14th at 2:30 P.M. Burial in Spring Hill Cemetery, Easton, will be private.
Memorial donations may be made to the Maryland Federation for the Blind, 1800 Johnson St., Baltimore, Md. 21230 or to the Talbot Hospice Foundation, 586 Cynwood Drive, Easton, Md. 21601.

Mary Louise Reynolds of West Chester, Pa, died at the Pembroke Nursing Center, West Chester, PA on Thursday, March 9, 2000. She was 98.

Born in Norfolk, VA on February 8, 1902, she was the daughter of the late John Francis and Hannah Say Kelly. After attending private school in Queen Anne County she moved to Baltimore and married Bernard I. Reynolds in 1929. They resided in Govens in Baltimore. Mr. Reynolds died in 1964.

Mrs. Reynolds is survived by a son, John Bernard Reynolds of Lady Lake, Fl; a sister, Miss Katherine B. Kelly of Washington, DC; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, March 15, 2000 at 11:00 AM at St. Peters Cemetery, Queenstown, MD.

Memorial donations may be made to St. Peters Cemetery Fund, c/o Mother of Sorrows Catholic Church, 303 Chesterfield Avenue, Centreville, MD 21617.

Josephine Constance Engle of Easton died at the Talbot Hospice House in Easton on Thursday, March 9, 2000. She was 81.

Born in Preston on December 14, 1918, she was the daughter of the late Frederick and Fannie Worm Quidas. She graduated from Preston High School in 1936. On December 27, 1938 she married Harvey Secrist Engle in Cordova. In 1940, she moved to Easton.

Mrs. Engle was a member of the St. Mark’s United Methodist Church in Easton where she was also a member of the Miriam Circle. She was a charter member and active member for fifteen years of the Rainbow Garden Club of Smithson, MD.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by two sons, Stuart A. Engle of Crisfield and Larry H. Engle of Queen Anne; a daughter, Diane J. Wampler of Monument, CO; two sisters, Marie Watts of Philadelphia, PA and Ethel Engle of Preston; a brother, Robert Quidas of Preston; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at the Fellows, Helfenbein, & Newnam Funeral Home, Easton on Monday, March 13, 2000 at 2:00 PM. Friends may call one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in the Jr. Order Cemetery, Preston.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mark’s United Methodist Church, 100 Peachblossom Road, Easton, MD 21601 or the Talbot Hospice Foundation, 586 Cynwood Drive, Easton, MD 21601.

March 8, 2000

Mr. Robert L. Fogwell of Chestertown, Md. formally of Galena, Md. died Wednesday March 8th 2000 in the Magnolia Hall Nursing Home Chestertown, Md. of heart failure.

Mr. Fogwell was born in Galena, Md. the son of the late Rovert and Pearl Fogwell. Me. Fogwell was involved in farming all his life, he also worked as the Parts manager for the Cecilton Farm and Home Supply Co. from the Mid 60’s through the 70’s. He also worked on sale day for Rudnick Sales Co. in Galena, Md. He was a member of the Kent County Farm Bureau, a member of the Olivet United Methodist Church, Galena, Md., a member of the Chesterville Planning roup and was a member for many years of the Odd Fellows in Galena, Md. Mr. Fogwell loved to hunt and fish. He enjoyed amping and traveling and playing cards. He was preceeded in death by his 1st wife Lena Fogwell in 1984. He was also preceeded in death by 1- brother Franklin “Nank” Fogwell and 1- sister Helen Davis.

He is survived by his wife Sarah Fogwell, 2- sons Roy Fogwell of Laingsvurg, Mich. And Robert W. “Rob” Fogwell of Galena, Md. 1- daughter Heneritta McNamara of Annapolis, Md. 4-sisters, Blanch Andrews of Lewis, De. Dorothy Bunker of Arnold, Md. Pearl Ward of Crisfield, Md. and Josephine Fogwell of Dover, De. 4- Grandchildren and 2- great grandchildren, 2- step sons Frank & Harry Dill of Chestertown, Md. 3- Step Grand and 2 Step Great Grand.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday March 11th 2000, at 11am from the Olivet United Methodist Church, Galena, Md. where friends and family may call after 10am. Arrangements by the Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home, Millington, Md.

Interment will be held in the Galena Cemetery, Galena, Md.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Olivet United Methodist Church Box 107, Galena ,Md. 21635 or the St. James United Methodist Church Box 156, Worton, Md. 21678.

Sarah Elizabeth Hall Sayler of Baltimore, MD, formerly of Oxford, MD died at her home on Wednesday, March 8, 2000. She was 95.

Born in Oxford on June 9, 1904, she was the daughter of William Asbury and Henrietta Posey Hall. After graduating from Oxford High School she lived most of her adult life in Baltimore.

Mrs. Sayler is survived by a niece, Betty Jane Thrasher of Lecanto, FL; two great nephews, Charles Stoke of Charlottesville, VA and Warren Stoke of Charlotte, NC; two great-nieces, Mary Jo Cooper of Alabama and Martha Shaughnessy of Kenwood, CA.

Burial will be private at Oxford Cemetery, Oxford, MD.

William “Bill” Wesley Prettyman, Jr. of Easton, formerly of Preston, died on Wednesday, March 8, 2000 at the Genesis Eldercare-The Pines in Easton. He was 89.

Born in Preston on August 7, 1910, he was the son of the late William W., Sr. and Emma Alden Prettyman. In October 1931, he married the former Esther Cox and they made their home in Preston. He was involved with the raising and contract hauling of poultry, for companies such as Esskay in Cordova, until his retirement in 1970. Mrs. Prettyman died in September 1992. Due to bad health, he moved to Easton in 1997.

Mr. Prettyman was a member of the Bethesda United Methodist Church in Preston. He was also a former member of the U.S. Trotting Association and life member of the B.P.O. Elks #1622 and the Loyal Order of the Moose #1520, both in Easton.

Mr. Prettyman is survived by a son, William W. Prettyman, III of Preston; a daughter, Donna P. McDougal of Bethesda; 12 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. A son, James M. Prettyman, died in 1980. He was also predeceased by 4 brothers and 5 sisters.

Funeral services will be held at the Fellows, Helfenbein, & Newnam Funeral Home, Easton on Saturday, March 11, 2000 at 1:00 PM. Friends may call one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery, Easton.
