Ruth A. Brandenburg

FREDERICK, Md. - Ruth Amelia Brandenburg, 87, formerly of 1421 Taney Ave., died Wednesday, Feb. 25, 1998, at Northampton Manor Nursing Home, Frederick.

Born July 17, 1910, in Foxville, Md., she was the daughter of the late Charles Andrew and Mary Alice Lewis Kuhn.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Leo Brandenburg, in 1962.

She is survived by five children, Ellen Ruth Baltzley, Connie Hoffman and Doris Keller, all of Frederick, Janice Geisbert of Myersville, Md., and Leo C. Brandenburg of Middletown, Md.; five sisters, Edna Lewis and Hazel Weigle, both of Thurmont, Md., Catherine Hurley and Betty Draper, both of Foxville, and Emma Humerick of Thurmont; nine grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Jim Kuhn and Roy Kuhn.

Services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Mount Bethel United Methodist Church, Foxville. The Rev. William Kercheval will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Bethel United Methodist Church Cemetery, Foxville.

The family will receive friends today from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at Robert E. Dailey and Son funeral home, 1201 N. Market St., Frederick; and Saturday one hour prior to the service at the church.

Memorial donations may be made to Mount Bethel United Methodist Church, Foxville, Md.

Ruth M. Sweeney

LEWISTOWN, Md. - Ruth M. Speak Sweeney, 78, of 10431 Hessong Bridge Road, died Thursday, Feb. 26, 1998, at her home.

Born Feb. 17, 1920, in Catoctin Furnace, Md., she was the daughter of the late Clyde N. and Nora M. Shook Speak.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Franklin McClellen Sweeney, in 1991.

She retired from Thurmont Shoe Factory after more than 30 years.

She was a member of Thurmont Senior Citizens.

She is survived by one sister, Hazel Finneyfrock of Thurmont; two brothers, John T. Speak of Thurmont and Clyde N. Speak Jr. of Lewistown; one niece; and two nephews.

Services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Robert E. Dailey and Son Funeral Home, 615 E. Main St., Thurmont. Dr. James L. Fisher will officiate. Burial will be in Blue Ridge Cemetery, Thurmont.

The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home, where friends may call from 1 to 9 p.m.

Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Frederick County, P.O. Box 1799, Frederick, Md. 21702.

Elizabeth A. Haines

BOONSBORO - Elizabeth Anne Duncan Haines, 73, of 7533 Old National Pike, died Wednesday, Feb. 25, 1998, at Washington County Hospital.

Born Jan. 20, 1925, in Clarksburg, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Robert and Violet Flowers Duncan.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Lee Haines, in 1981.

She was a 1942 graduate of Bridgeport High School; and a 1945 graduate of St. Mary's School of Nursing, Clarksburg, W.Va., where she received her registered nursing degree.

She previously was employed as a registered nurse at Newton D. Baker Veterans Hospital; and Washington County Hospital. She also volunteered at Newton D. Baker Veterans Hospital.

She was a member of Brownsville Church of the Brethren, where she was treasurer for 11 years and formerly was a member of Golden Rule Fellowship.

She was a member of Boonsboro Homemakers; Daughters of the American Revolution, Antietam Chapter; Clopper Michael Post 10 American Legion Auxiliary, Boonsboro; and Ralph S. Fagg Jr. Auxiliary Disabled American Veterans. She was a former member of Hagerstown Women's Club and AMVETS Auxiliary Unit 9, Middletown, Md.

She is survived by one sister, Mary Virginia Wilke of Phoenix; two brothers, Charles Lee Duncan of Watkins, Colo., and William Edgar Duncan of Phoenix; nieces and nephews; and grandnieces and grandnephews.

She was preceded in death by one brother, Robert Duncan.

Services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Brownsville Church of the Brethren, 1911 Rohrersville Road, Brownsville, Md. The Rev. R. Thomas Fralin Jr. will officiate. Burial will be in Brownsville Heights Cemetery.

The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at Bast Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro. Friends may call today after 10 a.m. at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Brownsville Church of the Brethren Memorial Fund, 1911 Rohrersville Road, Brownsville, Md. 21715.

Adaline A. Ward

Adaline Alberta Ward, 83, of 15834 Fairview Road, Hagerstown, died Thursday, Feb. 26, 1998, at Washington County Hospital.

Born Aug. 2, 1914, in Smithton, Pa., she was the daughter of the late David and Bessie Wilkinson Harris.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn W. Ward, in 1980.

She was a member of Valley Grace Brethren Church.

She was a former member of Halfway Lioness Club.

She is survived by three daughters, Beverly L. Forsyth of Hagerstown, Barbara L. Schildtknecht of Williamsport and Bernice L. Michael of Falling Waters, W.Va.; 14 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and four stepgreat-grandchildren.

Services will be Monday at 10 a.m. at Valley Grace Brethren Church, 17310 Gay St., Hagerstown. The Rev. Daniel J. Pritchett will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown; and Monday from 9:30 to 10 a.m. prior to the service at the church.

Memorial donations may be made to Valley Grace Brethren Church, 17310 Gay St., Hagerstown, Md. 21740.

Irvin L. Dinkle

Irvin Long Dinkle, 83, of 909 Frederick St., Hagerstown, died Wednesday, Feb. 25, 1998, at Washington County Hospital.

Born Aug. 3, 1914, in Downsville, he was the son of the late Ralph L. and Lola B. Long Dinkle.

He was employed by Sears and Roebuck and retired from The Bon-Ton.

He was a member of First Christian Church.

He was a member of Elks Lodge 378 and Potomac Fish and Game Club.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Lohr Dinkle; one son, Ralph Dinkle of Lake Hopatcong, N.J.; and two grandchildren, Deborah Dinkle and Bradley Dinkle.

He was preceded in death by a grandchild.

Services will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Fred M. Harris will officiate. Burial will be in Manor Cemetery, Tilghmanton.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 7 to 9 p.m.

Nannie Smith

Nannie Smith, 78, of 240 Prospect Ave., Hagerstown, died Friday, Feb. 20, 1998, at her home.

Born Feb. 20, 1920, in Bath County, Va., she was the daughter of the late John and Nannie Haynes Cardwell.

She retired from Homestead Inn after more than 40 years.

She is survived by four sons, Al Smith of Hagerstown, Alfonza Smith of Hyattsville, Md., William Smith of Gaithersburg, Md., and Rudolph Smith of Hot Springs, Va.; two sisters, Cora Pegram and Mary Barber of Hagerstown; 21 grandchildren; and great-grandchildren.

Services were Tuesday, Feb. 24, at McLaughlin Funeral Home, Hot Springs. Burial was in Pinehurst Cemetery.

Arrangements were by Gerald N. Minnich Funeral Home, Hagerstown.

John F. Kennedy Sr.

FREDERICK, Md. - John Francis Kennedy Sr., 81, of 242 E. Third St., who died Tuesday, Feb. 24, 1998, is survived by one sister, Kathryn Best of Knoxville, Md.
