Mr. Francis Danner
Dated: Thursday, January 31, 2002.
Mr. Francis Junior Danner, 70, of Lovettsville, Va., died Tuesday, Jan. 29, at his home.

Born April 17, 1931, in Lovettsville, he was a son of Mary Blanche Danner. He was born on the farm where he lived his entire life.

Mr. Danner was a graduate of Lovettsville High School.

He was a farmer who loved fishing, hunting and trapping in his younger years. He was an all-around sportsman.

Surviving in addition to his mother are one aunt, Lina Mae Danner of Lovettsville; and many cousins.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 31, at Brown Funeral Home, 34 E. Broadway St., Lovettsville, where funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 1. The Rev. Andreas Armstrong will officiate.

Interment will be in Union cemetery, Lovettsville.

Memorial contributions may be made to Lovettsville Fire and Rescue, P.O. Box 123, Lovettsville, Va.

Miss Mary Wells
Dated: Friday, February 1, 2002.
Miss Mary Elizabeth "Libby" Wells, 74, of Alexandria, Va., died Monday, Jan. 28, at Alexandria Hospital in Virginia.

Born Feb. 12, 1927, in Georgetown, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Rita Wells.

She had lived in Frederick during her early years.

She graduated from St. John's Literary Institute, Frederick. After graduation, she entered the Catholic religious order of the Little Sisters of the Poor. She served in the convent for 42 years in the United States and abroad. She returned to lay living in this country providing day care as a nanny in Alexandria.

She is survived by five sisters, Christine Phillips and husband Harry of Leesburg, Va., Jane Engelbrecht and husband Joseph of Fayettsville, Pa., Frances Kennedy of Ocean City, Barbara Bridges of Cocoa Beach, Fla., and Cheryl Schrantz and husband Thomas of Glenshaw, Pa.; and one brother, Charles Wells and wife Doris of Greenbelt.

A memorial Mass will be celebrated at noon, Saturday, Feb. 9, at Good Shepherd Catholic Church, 8710 Mount Vernon Highway, Alexandria.

Mrs. Mary Anderson
Dated: Saturday, February 2, 2002.
Mrs. Mary Catherine Anderson, 97, of Crestwood Village, Frederick, died Sunday, Jan. 27, at Citizens Nursing Home of Frederick County.

She was the wife of the late Horace W. Anderson Sr.

Born May 11, 1904, in Centerville, Pa., she was a daughter of the late Harry Oscar and Bertha M. Gregor Fisher.

Surviving are one son, Horace W. Anderson and wife Ellen K. of Crestwood Village; two grandsons, Gary K. Anderson and wife Bonnie, and Robert E. Anderson; five great-grandchildren, Robin K. Bud, Alexandra Anderson, Brittany Anderson, Laura Anderson, and Susan Hyatt and husband Michael; four great-great-grandchildren, Montreal and Malik Budd, and Lillian and Emily Hyatt; and several nieces and nephews.

There will be no calling at the funeral home.

Graveside funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 4, in Cedar Hill cemetery, 4111 Pennsylvania Ave. SE, Suitland.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations to Citizens Nursing Home Auxiliary, 1900 Rosemont Ave., Frederick, Md. 21702.

Mr. Ronald Broadhurst
Dated: Saturday, February 2, 2002.
Mr. Ronald H. Broadhurst, 68, Adamstown, died Thursday, Jan. 31, at University of Colorado Hospital in Denver, while on a skiing trip to Colorado.

He was the husband of Diane Broadhurst, his wife of 40 years.

Born Oct. 12, 1933, he was a son of the late Henry M. and Esther S. Broadhurst.

Mr. Broadhurst was a graduate of Bucknell University, Lewisburg, Pa., with a bachelor of science degree in electrical engineering. He did graduate work at Cornell University College of Engineering, Ithaca, N.Y.

He was a retired reliability engineer from Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt.

Surviving in addition to his wife are one son, Andrew Broadhurst and wife Leslie of Silver Spring; one daughter, Leigh Doan and husband Thomas of Silver Spring; one sister, Lois B. Laborde of Jefferson; and three grandchildren, Christopher and Melanie Doan, and Charlotte Broadhurst.

Services will be private at the convenience of the family.

Those desiring may make memorial donations to a favorite charity.

Arrangements are by DeWitt Tabler Funeral Home, 889 S. Race St., Denver, Colo.

Mr. Frederick Hoover Sr.
Dated: Saturday, February 2, 2002.
Mr. Frederick Hilton Hoover Sr., 84, of 12008 Greendale Drive, Hagerstown, died Wednesday, Jan. 30, at his home.

He was the husband of the late Chleo Lucille Smith Hoover, who died Aug. 14, 2001. They were married June 12, 1954.

Born May 25, 1917, in Hagerstown, he was a son of the late James Frederick and Iva Belle Trumpower Hoover Sr.

He graduated in 1935 from St. Joseph's Academy, now St. Mary's High School.

He retired in 1989 from Fairchild Aircraft Corp., where he was employed for more than 40 years.

He was a life member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, where he served on the usher society and retired as Scoutmaster from the Boy Scouts of America Troop 1.

He was a 4th Degree Knight in the Knights of Columbus, Hagerstown, where he served as a former Boy's Basketball Coach. He was appointed by the governor to the board of trustees for the Washington County cemetery and was also a member of the Hagerstown Civil War Roundtable.

He is survived by two sons, Frederick H. Hoover Jr. of Annapolis, and Andrew J. Hoover of Frederick; and several nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 2, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 224 W. Washington St., Hagerstown, with the Rev. George A. Limmer, as the celebrant.

Interment will be in Rose Hill cemetery, Hagerstown.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 1, at Gerald N. Minnich Funeral Home, 305 N. Potomac St., Hagerstown, with a Christian wake service at 7:30 p.m.

The family suggests memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Washington County Inc., 101 E. Baltimore St., Hagerstown, Md. 21740.

Mr. John Scaletta
Dated: Monday, February 4, 2002.
Mr. John Vincent Scaletta, 55, of Frederick, died Saturday, Feb. 2, at his home.

He was the husband of Wanda L. Scaletta. They were married for 29 years.

Born Dec. 2, 1946, in Cumberland, he was a son of the late Anthony Joseph and Helen Sachs Scaletta.

Mr. Scaletta was a materials planner for 21 years at Weinschel Corp. in Frederick.

He coached Little League and Babe Ruth teams in the Frederick area for many years. He also was an umpire for three years.

Mr. Scaletta was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force.

He was a member of Francis Scott Key American Legion Post 11, Frederick, for seven years.

Surviving in addition to his wife are one son, Jon Scaletta of Frederick; one daughter, Miki Edelen and husband Joseph of Walkersville; two brothers, Donald Scaletta and wife Jo Alice of Minniola, Fla., and Ronald Scaletta and wife Ruth of Lincolnton, Ga.; and nine nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 5, at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick. Memorial services will be held there at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 6. The Rev. Burnis D. Barrett will officiate.

Inurnment will be in Linden Hills cemetery, Frederick.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1393 Progress Way, Suite 908, Eldersburg, Md. 21784.

Mrs. Vivian Johnson
Dated: Monday, February 4, 2002.
Mrs. Vivian Irene Johnson, 82, of Lavender Plaza, Frederick, died Saturday, Feb. 2, at Howard County General Hospital, Columbia.

She was the wife of the late Joseph V. Johnson.

Born June 4, 1919, in Montgomery County, she was a daughter of the late George Alfred and Isabel Stella Buriss Robey.

Surviving are one daughter, Sandra Simpson and husband Richard Wenner of Damascus; two grandchildren, Julie Ernst and husband Michael William of Hagerstown, and James C. Wenner of Damascus; one sister, Duane E. Moran of Columbia; and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Johnson was preceded in death by several brothers and sisters.

Relatives and friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 5, at Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St., Frederick. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 6, at the funeral home.

Interment will be in Mount Olivet cemetery, Frederick.

Mrs. Kitty Staub
Dated: Monday, February 4, 2002.
Mrs. Kitty Staub, 69, of Frederick, died Saturday, Feb. 2, at Frederick Memorial Hospital.

She was the wife of Calvin M. Staub Sr., who died June 16, 1997.

Born July 22, 1932, in Frankfurt, Germany, she was a daughter of the late Ludwig and Marie Protzmann Spielmann.

Mrs. Staub came to the United States in 1955, and received her citizenship in 1958. She worked at American Optical and most recently at H.L. Hartz, Frederick.

She was a member of Middletown AMVETS, Post 9, auxiliary.

Mrs. Staub enjoyed sewing and knitting.

Surviving are three sons, Calvin McCllean Staub Jr. and wife Denise of Myersville, Ernest Ludwig Staub and wife Joan of Thurmont, and Thomas William Staub Sr. of Frederick; seven grandchildren, Heidi Staub, Heather Mathews, Missy Staub, Trey Staub, Justin Staub, Darren Staub and Thomas Staub Jr.; one great-granddaughter, Nicole Easterday; and three sisters, Lieselotte Hitzemann of Frankfurt, Minna K. Stitely of Frederick, and Brigitte Looyen of Holland.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, Feb. 4, at Stauffer Funeral Home, 104 E. Main St., Thurmont. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 5, at the funeral home. Dr. James L. Fisher will officiate.

Interment will be in Mount Tabor cemetery, Rocky Ridge.

Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one's choice.
