Mr. Tolbert Houck Jr.

Mr. Tolbert Kemp Houck Jr., 89, formerly of Urbana, and more recently of Frederick, died on Sunday, January 21, 2007, at the Frederick Memorial Hospital. He was the husband of the late Helen Humm Houck, whom he married December 30, 1939, in Lewistown. Mrs. Houck died in 1999.

Born April 20, 1917, in Ceresville, Frederick County, he was a son of the late Tolbert Kemp and Nora Haugh Houck.

He worked for Monocacy Farms at Urbana, from March 1940, until retiring in 1984. He continued working on the farm part-time until 1990. He enjoyed playing cards, tending to his large garden and hosting family dinners on Sundays.

Mr. Houck was a member of the Faith United Church of Christ (formerly Zion Evangelical and Reformed Church), Charlesville, from his early teens until his death. He served many terms as an Elder, faithfully contributing to the activities to enhance the growth and welfare of the church.

Surviving are four sons, Dan Houck and wife Helen, Robert Houck and wife Ginny, all of Knoxville, William Houck of Jefferson and Rick Houck and wife Tina of Charlesville; three daughters, Carole Houck, Marta Burchardt and husband John and Norlene Zanganah and husband Sudad, all of Frederick.

Also surviving are six grandchildren, Justin Houck and companion Sherry Brice, Larry Houck and wife Sandy, Jarrett Houck and wife Karyn, Ricky Houck and companion Wendy Stoner, Kristi Houck and companion Greg Gordon, and Dastan Zanganah; one step-grandchild, Dawn Greene and fiancee Jonathan Hutta; seven great-grandchildren, Katie, Kyle, Darianne, Azia, Kaylee, Brian and Ethan Houck; and three step-great-grandchildren, Sykler Gibbs, Jordan Smith and Conor Greene-Hutta; his sister, Gladys Welty of Frederick; one nephew, Frank Welty; and a sister-in-law, Margaret Humm of Charlesville.

He is preceded in death by brothers-in-law, Sourren Welty, Robert Woodrow Humm and William Holtz Humm; and a great-grandson, James William Houck, who died in 2000.

Mr. Houck will also be remembered by special friends, John and Mary Key, Ralph and Carol Putman, Joy Houck, Harry, Peter and Ned Wight and Bill and Margaret Sunday.

The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 26, at the Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St., Frederick. Funeral services will be held Saturday, Jan. 27, at 10:30 a.m. at the Faith United Church of Christ, 9333 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick. The Rev. Marilyn E. Washburn, his pastor, will officiate. Interment will be in the church cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be to the Faith United Church of Christ, 9333 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick, MD 21702.

Pallbearers will be grandchildren and include Justin, Jarrett, Larry and Ricky Houck, Dastan Zanganah and great-grandson Kyle Houck.

Mrs. M. Isabel Adams

Mrs. M. Isabel Adams, 85, of Middletown, died Wednesday, January 24, 2007, at Frederick Memorial Hospital. She was the wife of LeRoy A. Adams Sr., who died October 26, 1997.

Born in Petersville, August 14, 1924, she was a daughter of the late Clarence B. and Mary Everhart Young. She was a farmer and farmer's wife; a-- member of Zion Lutheran Church, Middletown; and had a lifelong love of horses. She had a special place in her heart for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and also loved her cat, Cuddles, and her dog, Lady.

She is survived by eight children, Connie M. Nusbaum and husband Harry of Frederick, Linda H. Shifflett and husband Ed of Union Bridge, Janet L. Shoemaker and husband Tom of Frederick, Diane I. Smith and husband Lamar (Bo) of Mount Airy, LeRoy A. (Sonny) Adams Jr. of Middletown, June E. Wilson and husband John of Middletown, Richard L. Adams and fiancee Nina Phillips of Middletown, and Mark A. Adams and wife Darlah of Middletown; one sister, Alma J. Lakin and husband Henry of Jefferson; one nephew, Ronnie Whipp of Rosemont; a special cousin, Cleta Ahalt of Middletown; another son-in-law, David Burtner of Middletown; 18 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by many other nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a daughter, Joyce Burtner; a son, Franklin Ross Adams; two grandchildren, Julie G. Wemple and Jacob Burtner; and a nephew, Bobby Whipp.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, Jan. 26, at the Donald B. Thompson Funeral Home, 31 E. Main St., Middletown. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 27, from Zion Lutheran Church, Middletown. There will also be a viewing one hour prior to the church service on Saturday. Interment will be made in Zion Lutheran cemetery, Middletown.

Memorial contributions may be made to Zion Lutheran Church abiding memorial fund, 107 W. Main St., Middletown, MD 21769.

Pallbearers will be Ronnie Whipp, Neil Burtner, Mathew Adams, Michael Wilson, Shawn Phelps, Kevin Davies and Mark Jones.

Rev. Mark Moss

The Rev. Mark Leslie Moss, 49, of Frederick, was lovingly received into the arms of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ early Monday morning, January 22, 2007, at Frederick Memorial Hospital.

He was the husband of Mrs. Dorothy J. Belcher Moss, his wife of 26 years.

Born August 26, 1957, in Frederick, he was a son of Edith Loraine Betts Moss of Frederick and the late Howard Lee Moss.

He was a 1975 graduate of Frederick High School and graduated in 1998 from Columbia Union College. Most recently, Mark was studying at Bethany Seminary to achieve his Master of Divinity.

Mark was employed by NeWave Technology, Gaithersburg, for eight years and had served as Pastor of Welty Church of the Brethren, Smithsburg.

Formerly, he played football with the Frederick Falcons and was involved with the Frederick Jaycees. He was past president of the Frederick Baseball Association and coached the "Keys, " a 7-10-year old team within the association. He enjoyed woodworking and golfing and was active with his home church, Frederick Church of the Brethren. There he taught adult fellowship and youth classes, sang with the choir and served as head deacon as well as on numerous committees.

Though his church and community involvement were very important to him, his family was always first and foremost in his life. Family gatherings were not merely with his immediate family but were extended to siblings, nieces and nephews.

Besides his wife and mother, Mark is survived by four children, Daniel James Moss, Michael Lee Moss, Kristin Michelle Moss and Elizabeth Marie Moss, all at home; siblings, Sharon L. Linton and husband A. Patrick of Frederick, Deborah L. Rowh and husband James E. and Edgar L. Moss and wife Vanessa J., all of Jefferson, and Kenneth L. Moss and wife Virginia L. of Walkersville; as well as Dorothy's parents, James E. Sr. and Mary E. Belcher of Frederick; brother-in-law, James E. Belcher Jr. of Mount Airy; sister-in-law, Janey M. Dermott and husband C. Dale of Waynesboro, Pa.; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to his father, Mark was preceded in death by paternal grandparents, John Henry Levy and Daisy Mae Moss; maternal grandparents, Edgar and Catherine Betts; and several aunts, uncles and cousins and a nephew.

Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, Frederick, is handling the arrangements. The family will receive friends at the Frederick Church of the Brethren, 201 Fairview Ave., Frederick, on Sunday, Jan. 28, from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. The funeral services will be held at the church at 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 29, with the Rev. Dr. Paul Mundey officiating, assisted by the Rev. James W. Moss Sr.

Interment will follow in Mount Olivet cemetery, Frederick.

Mrs. Margaret Poole

Mrs. Margaret E. Poole, 80, of Frederick, died Monday, January 22, 2007, at Frederick Memorial Hospital. She was the wife of Reuben D. Poole.

Born April 14, 1926, in Washington, D.C., she was the daughter of the late Cassin and Elizabeth Jenkins Gladmon.

Mrs. Poole worked as an analyst for the A.E.C. and the Commerce Department. She loved gardening and enjoyed spending time with her animals.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by two children, Robert D. and wife Sherry of North Carolina and Nancy Gasko and husband Rick of Gaithersburg.

She was preceded in death by her grandson, Christopher Poole; and her Uncle Percy.

Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 27, from the Monocacy cemetery, Beallsville.

Contributions may be expressed to the Alzheimer's Association, 108 Byte Drive, Suite 103, Frederick, MD 21702.

Arrangements are by Stauffer Funeral Home, Frederick.

Mrs. Audrey Potts

Mrs. Audrey Clair Potts, age 85, died Thursday, January 18, 2007, in Tallahassee, Fla.

Mrs. Potts was born in Hankow, China, and was raised in Shanghai, China. She spent most of her life in Frederick.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

In memory of Mrs. Potts, memorial contributions may be made to Episcopal Orphan Home Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 3401, Frederick, MD 21705.

Audrey Potts served on this scholarship committee, which distributes funds to Frederick County residents for undergraduate education.

Mr. William Richardson

Mr. William Patrick Richardson, 90, of Walkersville, died Sunday, January 21, at the Glade Valley Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Walkersville. He was the husband of Mary Theresa Carn Richardson, who died September 5, 1979.

Born July 6, 1916, in New York City, he was a son of the late Patrick and Anna Hodgens Richardson.

Mr. Richardson graduated from Regis High School, class of 1934, in New York. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the Pacific theatre, receiving the bronze star. He had been employed with the Mayfair House Hotel in New York and with Johnson & Johnson Family of Companies in New Brunswick, N.J. He was a faithful member of St. Timothy's Roman Catholic Church, Walkersville.

Surviving are two sons, Kenneth T. Richardson and wife Karen A. of Mechanicville, N.Y., and Patrick J. Richardson and wife Billie of New Market; seven grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; a sister, Ann Manos of Spotswood, N.J.; and a brother, George V. Richardson and wife Noreen of Spotswood, N.J.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Patricia Richardson; and a brother-in-law, 1st Lt. Nicholas Manos, USAF.

A Catholic Wake Service will be held Thursday, Jan. 25, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., at the Rezem Funeral Home, 457 Cranbury Rd., East Brunswick, N.J.

A Catholic Mass will be held at 10:15 a.m. Friday, Jan. 26, at the Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church, Spotswood, N.J.

Interment will be at Holy Cross Burial Park, Cranbury, N.J.

A memorial service will be held locally and will be announced at a later date.

The Robert E. Dailey and Son Funeral Homes, P.A., 1201 N. Market St., Frederick, is handling the arrangements.

Takeyha Pashay Thomas

Takeyha Pashay Thomas, 15 years old, of 18319 Misty Acres Drive, Hagerstown, died suddenly on Sunday, January 21, 2007.

She was the daughter of Tilon Thomas Sr. of Frederick and India (Starr) Black of Charlotte, N.C.

Takeyha was preceded in death by her great-grandmother, Lorraine Thomas; and her grandfather, Winfred (Bucky) Lee.

Takeyha attended school at South High in Hagerstown. She loved listening to music, talking on the phone and watching movies.

In addition to her parents, she leaves to cherish her memory one brother, Tilon Thomas Jr.; grandmother, Cheryl Johnson and husband Ronald of Hagerstown; two uncles, Darnell Thomas and Terrance Frazier of Frederick; great-grandmother, Helen Lee, and great-grandfather, Herbert Thomas, both of Frederick; great-great-grandmother, Ruth Brooks; devoted cousin Vonda Lucus; devoted step-grandfather, Jeffrey Frazier; great-aunt, Janet Davis; and also numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

A public viewing will be held from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 27, at Gary L. Rollins Funeral Home, Frederick, at which time the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 28, at Asbury United Methodist Church, 98 W. All Saints St., with the Rev. Rex Bowens officiating.

Interment will be in Fairview cemetery.

Mr. Gregory Alan Kaiser

Mr. Gregory Alan Kaiser, age 55, of Taneytown, was called home to rest on Sunday, January 21, 2007, at Frederick Memorial Hospital, Frederick.

He was born January 18, 1952, in Frederick, the son of Ruth Theresa Kaiser (nee Weller) of Walkersville and the late Robert Henry Kaiser.

He was the loving husband of Iva Jane Kaiser (nee Reall) of Taneytown for 32 years.

He was a retired assistant supervisor for Water Treatment for the City of Frederick after 35 years of employment, retiring in October 2006.

He was the devoted father of Stephanie Kay Rock of Taneytown.

He was the brother of James Craig Kaiser and family of Frederick and the late Robert "Hank" Francis Kaiser. He is also survived by many loved family members and friends.

He was the proud grandfather of Logan Carter Rock of Taneytown.

Funeral Liturgy (Mass) will be held Friday, Jan. 26, at 10 a.m. at St. John's Catholic Church, 118 E. 2nd Street, Frederick, with Fr. Dick Murphy officiating.

Interment will be in Evergreen Memorial Park, Finksburg.

Friends may call at the Burrier-Queen Funeral Home and Crematory, P.A., 1212 W. Old Liberty Road, Winfield (beside South Carroll High School), on Thursday, Jan. 25, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., with a vigil service at 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to American Cancer Society, 1393 Progress Way Suite #908, Eldersburg, MD 21784.

Arrangements were made by Burrier-Queen Funeral Home and Crematory, P.A., Winfield.

Mr. Carl Burdette

Mr. Carl Wilbur "Snuffy" Burdette, 74, of Mount Airy, died Monday, January 22, 2007, at Frederick Memorial Hospital. He was the husband of the late Edna Mae Allnutt Burdette, who died in 1994.

Born January 11, 1933, in Mount Airy, he was a son of the late Raymond William and Fannie Mahalia Mercer Burdette.

Mr. Burdette served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was the recipient of a purple heart metal.

Mr. Burdette was a retired heavy equipment operator for the Montgomery County Department of Transportation. He loved fishing, woodworking, gardening, cooking, collecting coins and spending time with family and friends.

Surviving him are four children, Sharon Brooks and husband Al of Monrovia, Carl (Rick) Burdette, Stanley Burdette and wife Sandy and Bonnie Burdette, all of Mount Airy; nine grandchildren, Scott Brooks, Brian Brooks, Kyle Brooks, Lauren Minor, Stacy Burdette, Ashley Burdette, Ashley Brigham, Mark Brigham and Susie Winer; special friends and neighbors, Helen Barnes, Sue and Dudley Aud; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Friends may visit Thursday, Jan. 25, at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 27015 Ridge Road, Damascus, from 6 p.m. until funeral services begin at 7:30 p.m. Graveside services and interment will be 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 26, at Montgomery Methodist cemetery, Damascus.

Arrangements are by Molesworth-Williams P.A., Funeral Home, Damascus.
