Mr. Randolph Black

Randolph "Randy" Lee Black, 73, of Middletown, died suddenly Thursday, Feb. 5, 2009, at Frederick Memorial Hospital. He was the husband of Mary Black.

Born in Pinehurst, N.C., he was the son of the late Carson R. and Florence Coon Black. He was raised as a Baptist.

Randy was self-employed for many years as a residential home builder at his company, Randy Black Builder.

Randy was an avid fan of auto racing and loved to watch his Washington Redskins. He also enjoyed time spent in his garden tending to his vegetables. He will be greatly missed by his cat, Sadie and his dog, Claire.

Besides his wife, Mary Black, he is survived by two children, Patrick Black and his wife, Janet, and Kathryn Young and her husband, Brian; two grandchildren, Kyle Black and fianc?e, Megan Flook, and Ryan Black; one great-granddaughter, Lexi Black; five siblings, Millie Cole, Carson R. Black Jr., Charles Howard Black, Stanley Black and Linda Dunn; and many nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 10, at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1100 N. Maple Ave., Brunswick. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 11, at the funeral home.

Interment will be at Mt. Zion Lutheran cemetery, Middletown.

Memorial contributions may be made to The Humane Society of Frederick, 217 W. Patrick St., Frederick, MD 21701.

Mrs. Saranna Beegle

Saranna C. "Sammy" Beegle, 73, of Gettysburg, Pa., died Saturday, Feb. 7, 2009, at her home surrounded by her family and friends.

She was born Dec. 22, 1935, in Frostburg, the daughter of the late Floyd C. and Genevieve Pope Miller. She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Dr. John Beegle.

Mrs. Beegle was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Gettysburg. She was a 1953 graduate of St. Joseph High School in Emmitsburg and a 1957 graduate of Towson State Teachers College. Mrs. Beegle enjoyed bridge, golf, where she recorded three holes-in-one, reading, and spending time with her grandchildren.

In addition to her husband she is survived by five children, Karen B. Arthur and her husband, Tom, of Gettysburg, Pa., Cynthia B. Smarge and her husband, John, of Naples, Fla., David B. Beegle of Fayetteville, Pa., Gregory A. Beegle and his wife, Rebecca, of Gettysburg, Pa., Dr. Bradley J. Beegle of Gettysburg, Pa.; 10 grandchildren, Christina Arthur, Melissa Arthur, Jessica Smarge, Stephanie Smarge, Amanda Smarge, Bryan Beegle, Justin Beegle, Michael Beegle, Zachary Beegle, Danny Beegle; a sister, Dolores Gillelan of Biglerville, Pa.; two brothers, John Miller of Hadley, Mass., and Mike Miller of Corpus Christi, Texas; and a number of nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a sister, Mary Lou Kerrigan.

A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 11, from St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Gettysburg, Pa. Fr. Bernardo Pistone and her nephew, Fr. Robert Gillelan will serve as celebrants.

Interment will be in Evergreen cemetery, Gettysburg, Pa.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 10, at Monahan Funeral Home in Gettysburg, Pa. Donations can be made to St. Francis Xavier Church, Capital Campaign Fund, 22 W. High St., Gettysburg, PA 17325 or Hospice of the Good Shepherd, 1075 Old Harrisburg Road, Gettysburg, PA 17325.

Mr. Lewis Horman

Mr. Lewis E. "Pud" Horman, 69, formerly of Frederick, went home to be with the Lord Sunday, Feb. 8, 2009, at the Julia Manor in Hagerstown. He was the husband of Phyllis Summers Horman for 48 years.

Born Oct. 24, 1939, in Frederick, he was the son of the late Lewis E. and Jenny Louise Horman.

Mr. Horman was a graduate of Frederick High School, Class of 1957. After graduation, he served his country in the U.S. Army. He worked for the City of Gaithersburg in the Public Works Department until his retirement in 1996. He was an avid sportsman, he enjoyed bowling for many years at the Mount Airy bowling lanes, and participated in Civil War reenactments during the 1960s and was a captain of his unit Company A 1st Maryland Infantry, CSA.

Mr. Horman is survived by his sons, Thomas of Towson, Jonathan and Beatrix of Hagerstown and Andrew of Frederick; four grandchildren, Jennifer, Patrick, Melissa, and Rachel, all of Hagerstown; and a special nephew, Yancy and Terri of Frederick.

Mr. Horman was preceded in death by two brothers, Francis and Samuel.

Visitation with family will be held from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 10, at Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, P.A., 106 E. Church St., Frederick.

A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 11, from the funeral home. Interment will be in Resthaven Memorial Garden.

Pallbearers will be Yancy Horman, Patrick Horman, Hoodie Geisbert, Bill Pascl, Brad Miller, Felix Plunkert. Honorary bearers will be granddaughters, Jennifer, Melissa and Rachel Horman.

Music will be provided by Bill and Debbie Fisher.

Mrs. Carlyne Rasberry

Mrs. Carlyne Ruth Rasberry, 59, of Walkersville, passed away Saturday, Feb. 7, 2009, at Frederick Memorial Hospital after a short battle with cancer. She was the wife of Michael Rasberry, her husband of 40 years.

Born Sept. 18, 1949, in Arlington, Va., she was the daughter of Walter and Dorothy Cox Robinett of Frederick.

Mrs. Rasberry was employed for 26 years as a reservations manager at Holiday Inn, FSK Mall. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. Carlyne was a dedicated supporter of all Walkersville sports. She was a very generous and kind person, always placing others above herself.

In addition to her husband and parents, she is survived by two daughters, Michele Barndollar and husband, Clay, and Jennifer Mathis and husband, Michael, all of Walkersville; her beloved grandchildren, McKenzie Mathis, Clay "C.J." Barndollar, Zackary Mathis and Ryan Barndollar; two sisters, Karen Fink and husband, John, of Jefferson, and Debra Sparks and husband, John, of Mount Airy; nephews, Justin Sparks of Mount Airy, Taylor Fink and wife, Sarah, of Boonsboro; niece, Courtney Levin and husband, Andy, of Baltimore; and her special cousin, Nancy Jones. She was preceded in death by her maternal grandmother, Ruth Cox; her aunt, Virginia Jones; and a niece, Kari Noel Fink.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 10, at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick. Services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 11, from Walkersville United Methodist Church, 22 Main St., Walkersville. Rev. Albert K. Lane III will officiate.

Interment will be in Glade cemetery.

Mr. Martin Biser

Martin Roland Biser, 85, of Brunswick, passed away at his home on Sunday, Feb. 8, 2009. He was married to Lorraine Stup Biser, his wife of 61 years. Born Aug. 25, 1923 near Adamstown to Erie Calvin and Lizzie Adlyn Coblentz Biser.

Roland was the eighth of 11 children born into a farming family. He owned and operated Galyn farm near Brunswick from 1947 through 2002. In addition to being a lifelong farmer, Roland was also a businessman who was well-liked and respected in the community.

He was past president of the Brunswick Co-op, Farmers Club and Ruritan Club in Petersville. He also served 22 years as a director for the Bank of Brunswick. He was a member of the New Hope United Methodist Church in Brunswick. He also served as chairman of the trustees for New York Hill United Methodist Church. Roland was also a director of the Manor Reformed Church cemetery, Frederick.

Roland enjoyed traveling throughout the United States and was very proud of the fact that he and Lorraine had visited all 50 states.

He is survived by two daughters, Gale Lorraine Grams and husband, Robert, and Linda Kay Murray and husband, Thomas, of Knoxville; four grandchildren, Brad Alan Murray and wife, Holly, of Pittsville, Jennifer Lynne Grams and Michael Sorrell of Knoxville, Jeffrey Wayne Murray and wife, Andrea, of Harpers Ferry, W.Va., and Rick Michael Grams and wife, Brooke, of Baltimore; three great-granddaughters, Ruby Jean Murray, Jadyn Raine Murray and Kennedy Erin Grams.

Roland is also survived by his sisters, Katherine Houff, Lorraine Duncan and husband, James; and brother, Paul Biser and wife, Blanche. In addition, he is survived by sister-in-law, Mary Biser; brother-in-law, Charles Lewis; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by sisters, Elizabeth Henn and husband Karl, Margaret Ringer and husband, Melvin, Marietta Lewis, Helen Snook and husband, Palmer, and Dorothy Libby and husband Chet; brothers, Richard Biser and Joseph Biser; and brother-in-law, James Houff; and sister-in-law, Emma Biser. He was also predeceased by a special nephew, Melvin Ringer.

The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 11, at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1100 Maple Ave., Brunswick. The funeral home will be open for visitors from 3 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 12, at the funeral home.

Interment will follow in Manor Reformed Church cemetery.

Mr. James Bradshaw Sr.

Mr. James N. Bradshaw Sr., 66, of Rockville, died Friday, Feb. 6, 2009, at the Shady Grove Adventist Nursing Center in Rockville.

Born Oct. 9, 1942, he was the son of the late Maurice and Tressie Bradshaw.

Surviving is one son, James Bradshaw Jr.; one daughter, Crystal Bradshaw; and his brothers and sisters, Harry Dove, Charles, Dorothy, Maurice, Polly, John, Joan, Billy, Larry and Robert Bradshaw.

He is also survived by his former wife, Jane Hamburg.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 13, at the Hilton Funeral Home, 22111 Beallsville Road (Rt. 109), Barnesville.

The family suggests donations be made in James' name to Bush Creek Church of The Brethren, 4821 Green Valley Road, Monrovia, MD 21770.

Mrs. Nellie Crutchley

Nellie M. Crutchley, 87, passed away Monday, Feb. 9, 2009, at Frederick Memorial Hospital surrounded by her loving family. Born Dec. 2, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Charles Edgar Knill and Addie Keefer. She was the loving wife of Lewis E. Crutchley, who passed away in 1989.

Mrs. Crutchley was a longtime member of Mount Zion Lutheran Church, Feagaville. She loved to read and would read books on any topic. She had a strong work ethic, working until she was 76 years old. She was a seamstress earlier in life and later worked at a local truck stop. She was a familiar face to many traveling truck drivers. Most of all, she loved her family, especially her grandchildren and her great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Crutchley was the loving mother of Lewis Edward Crutchley Jr. and wife, Ellen, of Middletown, Milton Clay Crutchley, and wife, Bettie Jo, of Jefferson, and Barbara L. Crutchley of Middletown, and of daughter-in-law, Wendy, of New Market. She was the grandmother of Kyle E. Crutchley, Ken E. Crutchley, Michael C. Crutchley, Jennifer L. Beckner, Scott A. Crutchley, Travis A. Crutchley, Addie Besemer, Sarah Beth Shankle, and Rachael Ann Shankle. She was the great-grandmother of Hunter Crutchley, Tyler Crutchley, Aiden Crutchley, Benjamin Crutchley, Emily Crutchley, Connor Crutchley, Autumn Crutchley, Eisabella Beckner, Rhyan Besemer, Leah Besemer.

She is also survived by siblings, Bill Knill of Frederick, Edna O'Hara, of Frederick, Betty Newberry of Crawfordville, Fla., and Bobby Spivey of Frederick. She was also survived by many nieces and nephews; most notably, she will be missed by her nephew, Franklin Abrecht and wife, Myrtle. She will also be missed by her former son-in-law, Dick Shankle.

Mrs. Crutchley is preceded in death by her son, Charles Thomas Crutchley; her brothers, John Knill, Charles Knill, Franklin Knill and Elbert Knill; and her best friend, Joan Cariola.

Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 11, at Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St., Frederick. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 12, in Etchison Memorial Chapel of the funeral home.

The interment will follow at the Mount Olivet cemetery, Frederick. Officiating will be Pastor Barbara Bornemann, of the Evangelical Lutheran Church, and Rev. Kenneth E. Gill Jr., pastor of Saint Luke Lutheran Church.

Memorial contributions may be made in Mrs. Crutchley's name to the Leukemia Society of America, Maryland Chapter, 11350 McCormick Road, EP Suite 100, Hunt Valley, MD 21031.

Mr. Wayne Davis

Mr. Wayne B. Davis, 81, of Johnson City, passed away Sunday, Feb. 8, 2009, at the Christian Care Center in Johnson City. A native of Suitland, he was the son of the late James Henry and Annie Reynolds Davis.

Mr. Davis is survived by his wife, Pearl Frances Broyles Davis of Johnson City; daughter, Trudie Davis-Long and husband, Ronald, of Mount Airy, Son Wayne Beverly Davis Jr. of Portland, Ore.; grandchildren, Brian Long of Ogden, Utah and Neale Long, Frederick.

Services for Mr. Davis will be held at a later date.

Mr. Joseph Bowers

Mr. Joseph Bowers, 73, of Augusta, Ga., entered into rest Wednesday, Feb. 11, 2009, at Select Specialty Hospital.

Mr. Bowers was a native of Frederick, Md. He served in the U.S. Armed Forces during the Korean Conflict. Mr. Bowers served with the Augusta Police Department where he was an officer on the Motorcycle Division from 1958 to 1963. He was a member of the Democrat Club in Maryland.

Family members include his sons, Joseph Allen Matthews of Martinez, and Mark Bowers of Savannah, Ga.; daughters, Vivian King Smith and husband, Scott, of Martinez, and Lori Sanders of Summerville, S.C.; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; brothers, William Bowers of Gettysburg, Pa., and John Bowers of Maryland; sisters, Nancy Kennan, Ruth Maxey, Judy Jones, Pam Blank and Vickey Blizzard; and aunt, Mary Wolf.

Graveside services with military honors will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 14, at Bellevue Memorial Gardens, Grovetown, Ga., with the Rev. Chip White officiating.

The family will receive friends after the service at the graveside.

Arrangements are by Thomas Poteet and Son Funeral Directors, Augusta, Ga.

Mrs. Mary Compofelice

Mary Yolanda Compofelice, of Olney, died Monday, Jan. 26, 2009.

She was the beloved wife of the late Peter J. Compofelice; mother of Joseph Compofelice of Thurmont, Frances Graybill, Vivian Robinson and Anthony Compofelice; sister of Ernest and the late Robert, Albert, Rudolph and Arthur Giacalone; also 10 grandchildren and one great-grandchild survive.

Relatives and friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 29, at Collins Funeral Home, 500 University Blvd., West, Silver Spring. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 30, at the funeral home.

Interment will be held at Gate of Heaven cemetery.
