VIRGINIA M. HARRINGTON
DEXTER , Virginia M. Harrington, 78, died December 28, 2001 at a Dover-Foxcroft hospital. She was born September 25, 1923, in Sangerville, daughter of Leslie McDonald and Isabelle McDonald Church and step-father, Edward Church. She attended the First Baptist Church in Dexter and was a member of TOPS in Dexter. She was known for her kindness and her love for her family.

She is survived by her husband, Harry M. Harrington of Dexter; two sons and their wives, Carlson and Diane Harrington of Dexter and Harry E. and Beverly Harrington of Indianapolis, Indiana; a daughter and her husband, Judy and Bob Bell of Dexter; 6 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren; 3 brothers, Keith Church of Dover-Foxcroft, Maynard Church of Corinna and Norman Church of Newport; 2 sisters, Donna Downs of Newport and Crystal Weeks of Dexter; several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call 6-8 pm Sunday at Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, 61 Main St., Dexter. Funeral services will be held 11 am Monday at the First Baptist Church of Dexter with Rev. Jay Brennan officiating. Spring burial will be in the Mt. Pleasant cemetery in Dexter.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the American Heart Association, P. O. Box 346, Augusta, ME 04330.

FRANCES E. HATHAWAY
ST. ALBANS & TROY, Frances E. Hathaway, 85, died December 29, 2001 at a Pittsfield hospital. She was born November 25, 1916 in Troy, the daughter of Herbert and Lizzie (Penny) Walker. She lived in Troy for many years where she cooked at the school and helped her husband on their farm. While in Troy, she was a member of the Fireman's Auxiliary and the Farm Bureau. Later she worked for eleven years at the Hinckley Goodwill School, and was a member of the Shawmut Baptist Chapel.

In November of this year, Frances was predeceased by her husband of 66 years, Ray M. Hathaway. She was also predeceased by two sisters, Natalie Fuller and Gertrude Ward, and two brothers, Mervin and Frank Walker. She is survived by a son and his wife, Clifton and Maxine Hathaway of Dexter; a daughter and her husband, Edna and Ralph Flagg of Dixmont; a brother, Ronald Walker of Hartland; a sister and her husband, Mary and Preston Sergeant of Palmyra; 10 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be omitted at her request. Graveside services will be held in the Spring at the Rogers cemetery in Troy. Memorial donations may be made to Shawmut Chapel, P.O. Box 222, Shawmut, ME 04975. Arrangements by Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, Newport.

ETHEL N. ROBINSON
DEXTER - Ethel N. Robinson, 86, a longtime resident of Dexter and Cambridge, passed away December 31, 2001. She was born April 14, 1915 at St. Stephen, New Brunswick, Canada the daughter of Wilfred and Effie (Greenlaw) Woodard. She moved to Dexter from St. Stephen in 1956. She was a member of the First Free Baptist Church in Dexter, and was also an active volunteer at Meals For Me and at the nursing home. She had received a number of awards for her devotion to her volunteer work.

She was predeceased by her husband, James Robinson, on December 18, 1973. Ethel is survived by her son and daughter in law, James Paul and Linda Robinson, a daughter and son in law, Carole and Wayne Clukey, all of Dexter; a brother Benjamin Woodard of St. Stephen, New Brunswick; 3 sisters, Margaret Blackhall and Winifred Montgomery, both of St. Stephen, and Doris Morrison of Oak Bay, New Brunswick; 4 grandchildren, Laurie Robinson, Garnet Robinson, Cathy Wyman, and Stephen Clukey; 6 great grandchildren.

Friends may call from 3-6 P.M. Wednesday, January 2nd, at Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, 61 Main Street, Dexter. A prayer service will be held at 5:30 P.M. at the funeral home with the Rev. Harold Wheeler officiating. Spring burial will be in St. Stephen, New Brunswick. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Dexter Public Health Association, c/o Janet Rines, 69 Main Street, Dexter, ME; or to the Sunshine Club, c/o Nancy Baldwin, 59 Acadia Street, Dexter, ME 04930.

PAUL R. DEMERSKI
MILO - Paul R. Demerski, 56, died Dec. 31, 2001, at his home in Milo, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born Feb. 12, 1945, in North Hampton, Mass., the son of Joseph W. and Clarissa D. (White) Demerski.Paul had worked as a woodcutter for 38 years in the Maine woods. Paul's passion was to be in the outdoors, where he felt free and alive. Paul was always willing to help out a friend in need.

In addition to his mother of North Hampton, Mass., he is survived by two brothers, Francis J. Demerski of Sturbridge, Mass., Kenneth Demerski of Springfield, Mass.; one sister, Linda L. Valasik of East Hampton, Mass.; three nieces, Regina Garvin, May Zachowski, Michelle Demerski; and one nephew, Robert Demerski. He will be sadly missed by many friends, including special friends, Keith Bridges and Delores Doble. He will also be remembered by his best friend, Ace, his dog. He was predeceased by a nephew, Karl.

Friends are invited to call 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2002, at the Lary Funeral Home, Milo, where funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 3, 2002, with the Rev. David McLeish officiating. A spring Interment will be in the Evergreen Cemetery, Milo.

ALDERIA "DEARIE" BAILEY
DEXTER - Alderia M. Bailey, 73, died December 31, 2001 as the result of an automobile accident. She was born February 28, 1928 at Dexter the daughter of Freeman and Denise (Dyer) Mountain. She attended N.H. Fay High School and was a communicant of St. Anne’s Catholic Church. Dearie was an employee of SAD # 46 food service program for over 40 years, and was a member of the Dexter Fire Department Auxiliary. She was also a member of the Shirley B. Carter Post #4298 V.F.W. Auxiliary. Dearie enjoyed spending time with her family in Dexter and Connecticut, as well as the family dog Ko-Ko.

She was predeceased by her husband, Chester L. Bailey in 1996, as well as a brother Galen Mountain and a sister Beverly (Mountain) Clukey. She is survived by 2 sons, David and his wife Norma Bailey, Stephen and his wife Pamela Bailey, all of Dexter; a sister Evelyn Mountain of Vernon, CT, and a brother Roger and his wife Dorothy Mountain of Ft. Pierce, FL; 3 grandchildren, Christian and his wife Heidi Bailey of Bucksport, Mark Bailey and Kimberly Bailey, both of Dexter; 2 great grandchildren, Ryan and Tatum Bailey-Somers; 2 step great grandchildren, Joey and Jaime Carmichael; a niece Cheryl Smith; and 2 great nieces, Kelsey and Nicole Smith. She will be sadly missed by dear friends Arthur and Janice Ellis.

Friends may call 2-4 & 6-8 P.M. Friday at Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, 61 Main Street, Dexter. A prayer service will be held at the funeral home at 7 P.M. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 A.M. Saturday, January 5th at St. Anne’s Church, Dexter, with the Rev. Raymond Morency officiating. Spring burial will be in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Dexter. Memorial donations may be made in her name to a scholarship fund to benefit a student furthering their education in the food service field, in care of Dexter Regional Federal Credit Union, P O Box 233, Dexter, ME 04930.

MARIE A. FERNALD
NEWPORT Marie (Booth) Fernald, 68, died unexpectedly January 2, 2002 at a Pittsfield hospital. She was born October 27, 1933 at Newport the daughter of Edwin and Muriel (Palmer) Booth. She was a graduate of Newport High School, Class of 1952.

She is survived by 2 daughters, Sue McKenney of Corinna and Jane Fernald of Newport; 2 brothers, Gerald Booth of Palmyra and William Booth of Pittsfield; a sister Virene DeBeck of Skowhegan; a grand-daughter Danielle McKenney of Corinna; and several nephews.

Friends may call 2-4 P.M. Saturday, January 5th, at Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, 117 Main Street, Newport. A graveside committal service will be held in the spring at Riverside Cemetery, Newport, with Pastor Al H. Worden officiating. Memorial donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 10 Bangor Street, Suite F, Augusta, ME 04338.

ELIZABETH M. HALL
MILO and LARGO, FLA. - Elizabeth M. Hall, 76, wife of the late George P. Hall, died Jan. 3, 2002, at Suncoast Hospital, Largo, Fla. She was born in Dexter, June 9, 1925, the daughter of Peter and Lilla (Herring) Godreau.

Surviving are three daughters, Eloise Bryer and her husband, Jim of Milo, Betty Curtis and her husband, Damon of Bangor, Laurie Smith and her fiance, Doug Folsom of Brewer; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by two sons, Kenneth and Danny, two brothers, Alfred and Robert, two sisters, Leona and Idella and her companion of several years, John Smith Sr. of Largo, Fla. She will be dearly remembered by her special friends, John Smith, Jr. and his wife, Cheryl of Largo, Fla.

Family and friends may call 2-4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 2, 2002, at Kiley Funeral Home, 69 State St., Brewer. A graveside service will be held at Charleston Cemetery, Charleston, ME, later in the spring. Elizabeth's family requests that those choosing to send floral arrangements will wait until the time of burial.

PAUL A. TARR SR.
ST. ALBANS - Paul A. Tarr Sr., 58, died unexpectedly, Jan. 4, 2002, at his St. Albans home. He was born in Hartland, Jan. 2, 1944, the son of Adrianne and Elizabeth (Fox) Tarr.He was educated in Hartland schools, and was a graduate of Nokomis Regional High School in Newport. Paul served in the Army Reserves in Dexter for over 23 years, retiring as a sergeant first class. For several years, Paul was employed at Eastland Woolen Mill in Corinna. He also worked at Maine Fence in Pittsfield for over 15 years, retiring due to disability, following his accident March 4, 1996. Paul enjoyed the outdoors, especially camping and riding his all terrain vehicle. Paul liked to travel, he and Margaret traveled extensively throughout the U.S. and Canada.

He is survived by his mother, Elizabeth Willette of Clinton; his special friend and companion for over 19 years, Margaret A. Williams of St. Albans; two sons, Paul A. Tarr Jr. of Turner, and Brian Tarr of Lewiston; his daughter, Teresa Greeley of Pittsfield; six stepchildren, Norman Bates II of Pittsfield, Juanita Frost of Exeter, Cheryl Frost of Dover-Foxcroft, Bonnie Sprague of Newport, Holly Williams of Bangor, and Philip Williams Jr. of Levant; one brother, Roland Tarr of Blue Hill; 14 grandchildren, including his special grandson, Cody; several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by his father; and his brother, Jimmy.

A celebration of Paul's life will be conducted 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2002, at the Brown Funeral Home, 34 High St., Newport, with Pastor Tom Ventura officiating. Spring Interment will be in the Maloon Cemetery, St. Albans. In lieu of flowers, friends are requested to make memorial donations to a charity of their choice.

CLARA JOSEPHINE ALMY
BROWNVILLE and CONCORD, N.H. - Clara Josephine Almy, formerly of New London, N.H., died in Dover-Foxcroft, Jan. 4, 2002. She was born in Providence, R.I., June 4, 1905, the daughter of Walter S. and Harriet J. (Glines) Almy.

She is survived by her nephew, Walter Cook and his wife, Nancy of Brownville; their three children, Rebecca J. Cook of Portland, Mathew C. Cook of New Gloucester, and Linda Dunham of Belleview, Fla.

Burial will be in the North cemetery in Bristol, R.I. Arrangements entrusted to the care of Pine State Cremation Service 1-800-769-6371.

STANLEY L. DOW
DOVER-FOXCROFT - Stanley L. Dow, 92, husband of the late Alice B. (Tyler) Dow, died Jan. 7, 2002, at a local nursing home. He was born Oct. 16, 1909, in Dover-Foxcroft, the son of Lewis H. and Lillian (Mitchell) Dow.A World War II, U.S. Army veteran, he had been employed at Cushing Dye Co. in Dover-Foxcroft. Mr. Dow was a 50 year member of the P of H No. 236 Grange, and a member of Chadbourne Merrill American Legion Post No. 29.

He is survived by a stepson, Lowell Tyler of W. Palm Beach, Fla.; two stepdaughters, Gloria Kinison of Bowerbank, Colleen Merrill of Kennebunk; a brother, Lewis H. Dow Jr. and his wife, Leona of Sebec; three sisters, Alice Shepardson of Dover-Foxcroft, Helen Thomas of Naugatuck, Conn., Luella Ostrotsky of Easton, Conn.; a sister-in-law, Lucy Dow of Sebec, several nieces and nephews.

Friends are invited to call 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2002, at the Lary Funeral Home, Dover-Foxcroft, where funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 10, with Rev. Neil Gastonguay officiating. Spring burial will be in the family lot in East Dover Cemetery. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to Parkinson's Disease Foundation, William Black Building, Columbia University, 650 West 168th St., New York, N.Y. 10032.

ANNIE G. BRANN
DEXTER, Annie G. Brann, 101, died January 8, 2002 at a Dexter health care facility. She was born August 11, 1900, in W. Enfield, daughter of William and Susie (Grant) Glidden. She attended Dover and Dexter schools and worked in the woolen Mills in central and southern Maine, retiring in 1967. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Dexter since 1916 and taught in Sunday School, as well as singing in the choir. She was one of the original members of the Elisabeth Towle Guild and was active in the Missions Circle. She was a life member of Martha Washington Rebekah Lodge and the Dexter Grange, where she held the office of Chaplain for 10 years. She was predeceased by her husband, Reuben Brann in 1953, a grandson, Tay Inman in 1974, a step-son, Linwood Brann, and all of her 7 brothers and sisters.

She is survived by her daughter and husband, Lois and Ted Inman of Dexter; her granddaughter, Cherilyn and husband Mark Young of Dover-Foxcroft; her grandson, Thayne and wife, Diane of Englishtown, New Jersey; 4 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren; 2 step-daughters, Madeline and husband, Otheneil Thurlow of Howland, and Norma and husband, John Thurlow of Ridgefield, Washington.

Graveside services will be held at 11 am Friday May 10, 2002 at the W. Garland Cemetery. Arrangements by Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, Dexter.

LORRIE J. BROOKS
DOVER-FOXCROFT - Lorrie J. Brooks, 43, wife of Hubert J. Brooks, died Jan. 8, 2002, in Guilford as a result of an automobile accident. She was born Sept. 2, 1958, in Meriden, Conn., the daughter of Marl and Eleanor (Philbrick) Chase. Lorrie had been employed at Graves Shop and Save in Dover-Foxcroft.

She is survived by her husband, Hubert of Dover-Foxcroft; her parents, Marl and Eleanor Chase of Orange City, Fla.; a daughter, Stephanie Bell of Wallingford, Conn.; two stepsons, Jacob and Zachary Brooks of Dover-Foxcroft; three brothers, Scott Chase of Torrington, Conn., Dennis Chase of Sangerville and Brian Chase of Orange City, Fla.; a sister, Cynthia Prelli of Winsted, Conn.

Friends are invited to call from 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 11, until time of funeral services at 2 p.m. at the Lary Funeral Home, Dover-Foxcroft, with the Rev. David McLeish officiating.

LAWRENCE H. METIVIER
CORINNA Lawrence H. Metivier, 74, died January 10, 2002 at his Stetson Road residence. He was born February 27, 1927 at Corinna the son of Lawrence E. and Hazel (Rowe) Metivier. He attended Corinna Union Academy. Larry served in the U. S. Navy during World War II, and later made the Navy his career retiring as a Petty Officer, First Class.

He is survived by his son Lawrence E. Metivier of West Chester, PA; 3 daughters, Lorraine Malec of Norfolk, VA, Lorna Slifer of Philadelphia, PA, and Laura Presley of Missouri; as well as a devoted step-daughter who has cared for him, Diana Flood of Corinna; 11 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife Jacqueline in 1993.

He will be laid to rest with his wife in Stetson privately, and at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are by Crosby & Neal Funeral Chapel, Corinna.

JOHN MARSHALL KIRCHDORFER
ABBOT - John Marshall Kirchdorfer, 54, died January 12, 2002, at the Kingsbury Road Waiver Home in Abbot. He was born October 15, 1947 in Needham, Massachusetts, son of Fred and Dora (Marshall) Kirchdorfer. He attended the Little Red School House and the Charlotte White Center in Dover-Foxcroft. For the past several years he has been a resident of the Kingsbury Road Waiver Home in Abbot where he received loving care from the dedicated staff.

He is survived by a brother and his wife, Allan and Celeste Kirchdorfer of Corinna; three special nephews, Richard, Scott and Cory; a special aunt and uncle, Mary and Galen Sands of Dexter and numerous close friends in the Abbot and Corinna congregations of Jehovah Witnesses.

A Memorial Service will be held at 2 pm, Saturday, January 19th at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah Witnesses in Abbot, with close friend Gregory Webber officiating. Spring burial will be in the Village cemetery in St. Albans. Arrangements by Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, Guilford.
