GRAVESIDE SERVICES for FRED PRITZ formerly of Hopkins who died & was cremated in Florida. Services will be held Aug 14, 2002, at 11 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church cemetery, Watson, 2036 20th St.

WILCOX -- Dorothy Lee Wilcox, aged 64 of Dorr Twp, passed away Saturday evening, August 3, 2002 at St. Mary's Hospital. She is survived by her husband, Raymond D. Wilcox; her children, Steven Patrick, Stanley Patrick, Sandra Van Wormer & Raina (Jeff) Oldebeken; thirteen grandchildren; sister, Sue (Steve) Carrol; brothers, Donny Kendall, Frank Kendall & David Kendall. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, son Marvin Patrick & eight brothers & sisters. She was very devoted to her family and grandchildren. Funeral Services were held Tuesday at the funeral home with Pastor Ralph Bass of First Baptist Church officiating. Interment at Oak Hill cemetery. Orangeville Twp. Memorial contributions may be given for the needs of family. Arrangements by Archer, Hampel & Kubiak, Wayland Chapel.

HILDEBRAND: Nicole Christian Hildebrand, 8 of Martin died Monday, July 29, 2002 at the Spectrum Health-Butterworth Campus. Nicole was born December 8, 1993 in Allegan, MI the daughter of Timothy and Carol (Jarvis) Hildebrand. She had attended Brandon Elementary School in Martin where she had completed the 2nd grade. Nicole loved life and touched everyone she came in contact with. She enjoyed drawing and loved animals, and one day had hoped to be a veterinarian. She had attended St. Paul Lutheran Church in Hopkins where she was recently baptized. Surviving are her parents, Tim and Carol; 2 brothers, Joshua and Richard; her grandparents, Katherine Hildebrand, Dave & Patti Jarvis all of Martin, and Don & Barb Hamilton of Deming, NM; her dog and cat, Ralphy and Cinder; several aunts, uncles, and cousins. The family received friends Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. and Thursday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Gorden Funeral Residence, Hopkins Chapel. The funeral service was held Friday 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Hopkins. Pastor Donald W. Seelhoff officiated. Interment South Martin cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Blodgett-Butterworth Foundation at the DeVos Children's Hospital, 1000 Michigan St. NE, Mail Code #4, Grand Rapids, MI 49503.

MELVIN: Christine Melvin was a woman whose avocation was making others happy; she died Wednesday, July 17, 2002 in Allegan in the presence of her family and under the fine care of the Allegan Care Facility. Her life began in Martin, Michigan on May 24, 1914 the daughter of the late Lora and Clarence McGaw. A graduate of Martin High School, she attended Allegan Normal, and taught school. She was married to Howard Melvin for 57 years, and he preceded her in death in 1996. Christine spent her life as a homemaker and mother. People will remember her beautiful smile and how she loved her Snicker's bars. She spent her early married life in Schoolcraft, where the family owned Melvin's Hardware Store for 28 years. Howard and Christine retired to a cottage by Evart, Michigan in the summer and spent winters in Lake Placid, Florida, where they made their home for 20 years. She was a member of The First Presbyterian Church of Lake Placid. In 1997 she moved back to the Kalamazoo area. Illness required her to spend the last year and a half at the Allegan County Medical Care Facility; where she received incredible tender loving care. Christine's family includes her son Gary (Joan) Melvin, of Allegan, a daughter Kay (John) Wynne, of Florida; four grandchildren, Diana Melvin of Plainwell, Greg (Lisa) Melvin of Dorr, Patrick Casciolo of Connecticut, and Michelle Casciolo of California; two great-grandchildren, Joshua Melvin and Christine Melvin; 2 brothers, Leonard (Wilma) Melvin of Bloomingdale, and Buck Melvin of Allegan. Friends may call at the Rupert, Durham, Marshall and Gren Funeral Home, Plainwell Chapel, Friday August 9, 2002, 6-8pm. A Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday, August 10, 2002, 11:30am, at the Martin Methodist Church. BARTOSIEWICZ: Kamran Bartosiewicz infant son of Mike and Chris and brother of Katie, Kayla and Kyle of Dorr, MI was born into eternity on Sunday, July 14, 2002. Kamran will be lovingly missed by his grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, and godparents who will receive comfort in the knowledge that he is in the arms of a loving God. Kamran will live in our hearts forever. Private family services were already held.

CHURCH -- Rev. Lewis White Eagle Church, 84 of Monterey Township, Allegan, a distinguished and well known Native American Leader died peacefully at his home Saturday, July 6, 2002. Rev. Church was born August 12, 1917 in Salem Township, MI and was raised in Allegan County. He began a long career as a minister in the United Methodist Church in 1935 that extended for more than 60 years before his retirement. He was also employed by North American Rockwell in Allegan, MI until his retirement with 35 years of service. He continued to live at home with his wife at their residence near Hopkins. Throughout his career of service, he touched the lives of countless people serving as a counselor, leader and personal example for those around him. He worked tirelessly in support of Native American communities and congregations across Michigan and beyond. He will be remembered for his selfless service to all those around him. For those who knew him, they will remember him as a man who prayed. He often shared the wisdom of Ecclesiastes 12:1, "to remember thy creator in the day of your youth...." before the difficult time in life come that bring less pleasure, such as the feebleness of old age. Rev. Church suffered from Alzheimer's Disease and has now returned whole again to his maker. Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Gladys (Mamagona) Church; a brother, Leonard Church of Dorr; 4 children, Robert Lewis (Liane) Church of Kentwood, William Loren (Cheryl) Church of Hopkins, Richard Mark (Mary) Church of Gaithersburg, MD, and Frances Elaine (Tom Pratt) Church of Wyoming; 14 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. The funeral service was held Tuesday, July 9, at the Salem Indian United Methodist Mission. Rev. Joseph Sprague and Rev. Calvin Hill officiating. Interment Salem township cemetery, Burnips. HITCHCOCK -- Gertrude "Trudy" Hitchcock, of Hopkins Twp, MI, died Wednesday, July 3, 2002 at her home. Mrs. Hitchcock was born June 20, 1934 in Hastings, MI, the daughter of Walter B. and Myrtie Bell (Diamond) Cole. She had worked as a nurse's aide for 18 years at the Allegan Co Medical Care Facility, retiring in 1997. Surviving are her husband, Floyd; 6 children, Karen and Sam Fifelski of Hopkins, Susan Smith and Bill Stedman of Pullman, Robin and Nick van Frankenhuyzen of Bath, Sandy and Carl Stanford of Lowell, Teresa Smith of Gowen and Nicole and Mike Weddington of Paw Paw; 4 stepchildren, Teresa and Bob Wendt of California, Jeffrey and Lynn Hitchcock of Kentwood, Tammy and Steve Button of Coopersville and Gwyn Harnish and John Meisenbach of Wayland; 23 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; 2 sisters, Elnora and Ken Beckwith of Hastings and Betty Carey of Woodland. SEAGER: Miner Doyle Seager, 70, passed away at home June 27, 2002. As a retired Certified Public Accountant he enjoyed living at Gun Lake, MI and Saint George Island, FL. After attending school at Brown City, MI; Howe, IN; and Michigan State University, he served n the Korean War as a US Navy Corpsman attached to the US Marine Corps. Miner loved flying and earned his private Pilots License at age 69. Sailing, golf, skiing, and radio controlled flying were among his many hobbies. He was a member of: AOPA, AMA, Gun Lake Prop. Busters, St. George Is. Civic Club and Yacht Club. His past memberships included: AICPA, MACPA, and Grand Ledge Lion's Club and the Chamber of Commerce of Grand Ledge and Gun Lake Area. His parents, Miner Cole and Genevieve (Doyle) Seager preceded him in death. He will be greatly missed by his wife of 46 years Lola (Swartz) Seager, brother Brent Seager (Nancy), 3 nephews, 1 grandnephew and numerous cousins and good friends. SNIDER -- Katherine Louise Snider, 78, of Sault Ste. Marie, MI, passed away Saturday, July 6, 2002 at Northern Michigan Hospital in Petoskey, MI. She was born on Sugar Island, MI, August 18, 1923 to Leo and Josephine (Gravelle) Bonno and raised there until moving to Grand Rapids, Michigan as a young adult. She was a member of the Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians, the VFW Women's Auxiliary, past member of the Tribal Elderly Advisory Committee and one of the official Grand Parent of the JKL Bahweting School Grand Parent Program. Katherine is survived by her husband, George Snider, Sr. and her seven children, Diane (Bud) Perin of Dorr, Michigan, Darlene (Glen) Miller of Martin, Michigan, George H. (Mary K.) Snider of Sugar Island, Michigan, Bob (Mary Ellen) Snider of Sugar Island, Michigan, Ron (Sandy) Snider of Dorr, Michigan, Ted (Marge) Snider of Sault Ste Marie, Michigan and Debra (Tom) Cox of Sugar Island, Michigan. 25 grandchildren, 38 great grandchildren and 9 great-great grandchildren also survive. She was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Thomas James "T.J." Cox and Tonya Marie Snider and her parents. Visitation began Tuesday, July 9, at the Neeganageezhic Cultural Building and continued thru until Wednesday, July 10. There was a Funeral Mass Tuesday, July 9 at Neeganageezhic Cultural Building with Father John Hascall officiating. There was a Traditional Service Wednesday, July 10th, at the Neeganageezhic Ceremonial Building. Arrangements by Clark Bailey Newhouse Funeral Home.

TETZLAFF -- Elizabeth C. Tetzlaff, age 53 of Hopkins, MI, passed away unexpectedly Saturday July 6, 2002. She is survived by her beloved husband, Garth; 5 children, Robert and Yvonne Dixon of Grand Haven, Scott Dixon of Grand Haven, Shelly and Dennis Hilliker of Cedar Springs, Vicki Newhouse of Comstock Park, Kim and Brian Haywood of Shelbyville; 15 grandchildren; grandmother, Viola Rehkopf of Reed City; several brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews and many friends. Funeral services were held Wednesday at 2 pm at the St. Paul Lutheran Church, Hopkins Twp. Interment in the Church cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Peter and Paul Lutheran School. Arrangements by Gorden Funeral Residence, Hopkins.

OLDEBEKEN -- Katherine M. Oldebeken, aged 98, of Shelbyville, passed away Friday, June 28, 2002. She is survived by her children, Arthur Oldebeken, Bernadine Foster & Alan Oldebeken; thirteen grandchildren & twenty eight great-grandchildren & also two great-great-grandchildren. Mrs. Oldebeken was preceded in death by her husband Arthur & son, Fred, and grandchildren Amanda & Thomas. Funeral Services were held Monday at the funeral home with Pastor Joe Spakman officiating. TEIN -- Alfred Tein, aged 79, of Wayland, passed away Friday, June 28, 2002. Beloved husband of Evalene VanDenBrand Tein of 56 years; loving father of five children, Carole & Bruce Cole, Barbara & Joe Schwemberger, Loren "Jim" Tein, Phyllis & Terrill Clark, Brian Tein & Teresa Walton; seven grandchildren; five great grandchildren; one brother; two sisters-in-law; many nieces, nephews and friends. Alfred was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, three brothers, and a daughter-in-law. Memorial Services were held Monday at the funeral home with Rev. Ron Bouwkamp of Wayland Christian Reformed Church officiating. Cremation has taken place. Memorials may be made to Wings of Hope Hospice of Allegan County or Wayland Christian Reformed Church Education Building Fund. Arrangements by Archer, Hampel & Kubiak, Wayland Chapel.

BERGERON -- BEULAH GRACE BERGERON, age 91, formally of Wayland. passed away on October 18, 2002 due to heart problems in Eugene, Oregon. She was born on March 29, 1911 in Tappan, North Dakota to Harry Adrian and Lillie Magdalena Cramer. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lauren A. Bergeron SR., son, Eugene Bergeron and daughter, Marilyn Collins. She is survived by her two sons and their wives, Ed and Kathy Bergeron of Oregon, Larry and Patricia Bergeron of California; three sisters, Nora Duffy, Edith Owen and Mary Volz all of Michigan; numerous nieces and nephews;10 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. She grew up in Grand Rapids where she attended school. She worked at Henry Smith Floral Co., until she married Lauren in 1939. She then raised her children in Hastings and Wayland. In 1952 she started working as a clothing designer and pattern maker for Kessler's Undies & Woolies Co., she then retired in 1972 to her farm in Wayland where she sewed baby clothes for Holt International in Eugene, Oregon where she later moved to in 1991. She was a long time member of St. Paul Catholic Church in Oregon. She was also awarded the "Christmas Angel" award for her volunteer work in 1978 for making baby clothes. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, flowers, traveling and visiting with family. Funeral services were held in Oregon. Memorial contributions can be made to the American Heart Association in memory of Beulah.
