Daniel Shea

Daniel E. Shea, age 39, of Fort Gratiot, died Wednesday, September 28, 2005 in his home after a long illness. He was born November 19, 1965 in Detroit to Michael and Rosalie Shea.

He attended St. Veronica Grade School, and graduated with honors from Notre Dame High School. He married Lori Ann Conley on September 13, 2003. Dan owned D. Shea Construction in Fort Gratiot. He coached girl's softball. He loved the outdoors with the girls, and spending time at his summer cottage. He also enjoyed many sports, among them; boating, skiing, swimming, water skiing, basketball, and biking. He is survived by his wife Lori A. Shea of Fort Gratiot, 2 daughters, Alexandria and Sydney of Fort Gratiot, his parents, Michael and Rosalie Shea of Grosse Pointe Woods, 2 brothers, Michael Shea of Grosse Pointe Farms and Brian Shea of Grosse Pointe Woods, father-in-law and mother-in-law, Richard and Nancy Conley of Fort Gratiot, a brother-in-law, Steve Conley of Fort Gratiot, 3 sisters-in-law, Annette (Mike) Delong of Port Huron, and Michele (Marv) Shagena of Fort Gratiot, and Helen (Mike Hurley) Clark of Courtright, Ontario, a Goddaughter Stephanie Conley of Freeland, Michigan, special friends Sharon Wilton and Katie Marigold both of Fort Gratiot, and several aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Danielle Shea on September 24, 2004.

There will be a funeral mass at 10 AM Saturday in St. Mary Catholic Church with the Rev. Fr. Stanley Wyczawski officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Hope cemetery. Friends may visit today from 5-8 PM and on Friday from 3-9 PM in the Smith Family Funeral Home - North, 1525 Hancock Street. Friends may also visit on Saturday at church one hour before the funeral mass beginning at 9 AM. There will be a Rosary Friday evening at 7:30 PM in the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to his family.

Clifford Preston

Clifford A. 'Cowboy' Preston, age 62, of Kimball Twp. died Tuesday, September 13, 2005 in Mercy Hospital after a long illness. He was born July 28, 1943 in Yale, Michigan. He married Bonnie Peters on November 13, 1964 in Yale. They moved to Kimball Twp. and have lived there since. He retired from New Haven Foundry after 27 years of service. Clifford enjoyed playing lead guitar in his family's band. He also enjoyed garde ning, woodworking, and carpentry. He will be missed by his family, especially his grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, Bonnie Preston of Kimball, 3 daughters, Penney (Jim) Williams of Port Huron, Connie (Arlin) Hall of Kimball, and Lisa Preston of Port Huron, a son, Christopher (Sherri) Preston of Fort Gratiot, 10 grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren, 3 sisters, Beulah (Wilbur) Robison, Edith (Bernie) Teichow, and Gloria (Bob) Stephens, and 5 brothers, Calvin (Evelyn) Preston, Clarence (Betty) Preston, Leonard (Betty) Preston, Harold (Mary Lou) Preston, and Eldon (Donna) Preston, and his brother-in-law, Wilbur Smith. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Bernice Smith. The funeral service will take place at 11 AM Friday in the Smith Family Funeral Home - North 1525 Hancock Street, with Evangelist Harold Hastings officiating. Burial will follow in Christian Memorial Cultural Center cemetery in Peck. Pallbearers will be, Larry Peters, Wayne Weaver, Vernon Preston, Eldon Preston Jr., James Williams, and Pat Stephens. Honorary Pallbearers will be Mike Cribbs and Thom Klebba. Friends may visit at the funeral home on Thursday from 2-9 PM. Memorials may be made to the family.

Michael Labadie

Michael D. Labadie Sr., age 47, of Port Huron died unexpectedly of natural causes on Sunday, August, 28, 2005 in Mercy Hospital. He was born April 18, 1958 in St. Clair and was a life long area resident. He married Mary K. Kimmel on July 15, 1995 in Marysville. Michael was an avid NASCAR fan. He will be greatly missed by family and friends. He will be remembered for his love for his grandchildren, and his ability to find humor in everything.

He is survived by his wife, Mary K. Labadie of Port Huron, 4 sons, Michael (Melissa) Labadie of Fort Gratiot, Thomas (Tricia) Labadie of Florida, Christopher (Teia) Labadie of Fort Gratiot, and Brian (Jennifer) Kimmel of Yale, 5 grandchildren, Shane, Haley, and Tyler Labadie, and Seth and Dade Kimmel, his mother, Ruby (Dave) Taylor of New Baltimore, his father, William B. Labadie Sr. of Port Huron, 4 brothers, Thomas (Carlene) Labadie of St. Clair, Dave (Lisa) Taylor of Mt. Clemens Scott Labadie of Alabama, and William (Kelly) Labadie Jr. of Fort Gratiot, one sister, Rose (Lonnie) Holmes of Alabama, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

The funeral service will take place at 11 AM Thursday in the Smith Family Funeral Home - South, 1230 7th Street with The Rev. Al Fenner officiating. Burial will follow in Lakeside cemetery. Friends may visit at the funeral home on Wednesday from 2-4 & 7-9 PM. Memorials may be made to the family.

Doris Saunders

Doris A. Saunders, age 97, of Port Huron died October 3, 2005 in the Evangelical Home after a short illness. She was born May 25, 1908 in Manistee, Michigan and lived in the Port Huron area most of her life. She married Schelling M. 'Tim' Saunders. He died November 1, 1972. She is survived by 2 sons, Murray (Gail) Saunders of Columbus, Indiana, and Dale (Kaye) Saunders of Lake Alfred, Florida, 6 grandchildren, Kirk, Jill, and Mike Saunders, Scott (Kathy) Saunders, Brad (Azure) Saunders, Carrie (Erik) Saunders-Viberg, 2 great-grandchildren, Krista and Justin Saunders, and a sister, Pearl Madely of Manistee. The funeral service will take place at 11 AM Wednesday in the Smith Family Funeral Home - North with The Rev. Nicholas Genoff of the Washington Avenue United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will follow in Marysville Riverlawn cemetery. Friends may visit at the funeral home beginning at 10 AM Wednesday. Memorials may be made to the Washington Avenue United Methodist Church.

Elden Dell

Elden H. Dell Jr., 83 of North Street, passed away Wednesday, August 3, 2005 unexpectedly of natural causes. He was born to Elden & Mary Dell on December 31, 1921 in Port Huron and attended the Port Huron schools.

Elden served in the U.S. Navy for 10 years including service during World War II. Years ago he was employed at Mueller Brass Co. and he also worked as an insurance salesman. He was a Life member of Port Huron Lodge # 58 F & AM.

Elden enjoyed all sports, including skeet & trap shooting, and years ago he coached Little League baseball and minor hockey. He particularly enjoyed riding motorcycles and was a charter member of Chapter F of the Gold Wing Road Riders.

Elden is survived by his wife of 58 years, Marjorie M. Dell; his son, Gary E. (Karen) Dell of Allen Park, MI; three grandchildren, Julie (Tim) Linehan of Petoskey, MI, Michael (Shelly) Haas of Port Huron, and Meghan Dell of Woodhaven, MI; two great grandchildren, Nicklas & Michael Haas; and his sister, Doris DeNardin of Lady Lake, FL. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Sally Jo Haas.

The funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 6, 2005 in Columbus Bible Church. Pastor Woodrow Nelson will officiate. Interment will take place in Kinney cemetery at a later time. Visitation will be on Friday from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in Smith Family Funeral Home-North, 1525 Hancock St. and on Saturday beginning at 10:00 a.m. at the church.

Contributions may be made in Elden's memory to Blue Water Hospice.

Anne Ashley

Ann E. Ashley, 90, of Smiths Creek, died Monday, October 10, 2005 in Marwood Nursing and Rehab.

She was born February 23, 1915 in Port Hope and had lived in the Port Huron area since 1941.

Ann together with her late husband Alger, owned and operated the Slash A Western Store and Ashley Signs for more than twentyfive years. They also raised quarter horses. She was an avid gardener and enjoyed her dog, Pepper. Ann was a parishioner of Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Smiths Creek. She was a wonderful, special mother and grandmother.

Ann is survived by her daughters, Marilyn Negowski of Port Huron and Ellen (James) Brookins of Smiths Creek; her sons, Richard (Rebecca Nelson) Frame, Smiths Creek, Dennis Frame and friend, Gwen of Port Huron, Patrick (Monica) Frame of Brownstown Township and Robert (Janice) Frame of Summerfield, FL; Daughterinlaw, Gail Frame of Port Huron; Brother, Leo (Johana) Shubitowski of Walpole, MA; Sisters, Agatha Conboy of Portland, OR, Clara Turner of Huron, SD and Patricia (Thomas) Veal of Harbor Beach; 10 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, three great great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Alger, a son, Burton Frame, a sister, Doris Peterson and a grandson, Roger Frame.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday in Holy Rosary Church, Smiths Creek. The Rev Erwin Bauer, Sr. Priest will officiate.

Burial will be in Caswell cemetery.

Visiting hours are Thursday (10/13) from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. in KarrerSimpson Funeral Home and Friday at the church from 9 a.m. until the time of the service. The Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Thursday.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Holy Rosary Church or Marwood Nursing and Rehab

Morris Schoenberg

Morris Schoenberg, 94, of Port Huron died Tuesday, July 26, 2005, in Port Huron Hospital.

He was born Nov. 13, 1910, in Cleveland.

After working two years in Cleveland for Sterling Cable and Carbon, Mr. Schoenberg was hired by Prestolite Wire and Cable of Port Huron, formerly known as Autolite. He moved to Port Huron in 1932 where he has lived since.

Mr. Schoenberg's employment at Prestolite began in the com-pany's formative years. He was promoted to such positions as head foreman of shipping, general foreman and personnel manager. At the time of his retirement in 1975, he was evening superintendent of the plant's afternoon shift. He was highly respected by the many employees who worked under his supervision during his 47- and onehalf years in positions of middle management with Prestolite.

It is noteworthy that Mr. Schoenberg enjoyed living in the Port Huron area so much that he never wished to travel either for recreation or to "get away from" Michigan.

Mr. Schoenberg married the former Henrietta M. Pessefall on April 29, 1939, in Detroit. She preceded him in death on June 29, 1998.

Morris is survived by his three children, Carl M. (Sharon) Schoenberg of Clyde Township, Carol Anne Schoenberg of Port Huron and Joanne M. (Kenneth) Riedel of St. Clair; four grandchildren, C. Bradley (Kris) Schoenberg and Jason M. (Sara) Schoenberg, all of Port Huron, Stacie M. (Matthew) Rayman of Otsego and Daisy M. Riedel of Denver; three great-grandchildren, Tyler and Mattison Rayman and Mallory Schoenberg; and a sister, Ann Schoenberg of Los Angeles.

Mr. Schoenberg was preceded in death by his two brothers, Louis and Harry Schoenberg in 2002.

Cremation has taken place and private inurnment will be in Mount Hope cemetery Columbarium.

A celebration of Morris's life for family and friends will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday, July 28, 2005, in KarrerSimpson Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in his memory may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.

Viola Therrin

Viola Therrin, age 90, of Tawas City, Michigan died July 3, 2005 in Tender Care Nursing Home in Tawas City. She was born March 25, 1915 to Wilfred and Lila Mathews. She married Chester Therrin on June 30, 1934 in Goodells. He died December 16, 1988.

Viola was a lifetime member of Tri Star Chapter 64 Order of Eastern Star. She is survived by her daughter, Evelyn (John) Healy of Oscoda, 8 grandchildren, Linda (John) Schleicher of Swartz Creek, Sheryl (David) Warner of Grand Blanc, Richard (Candice) Healy of Davison, Michael (Adriana) Scharnakau of Texas, Christine (David) Reinbold of Flint, Kenneth (Linda) Scharnakau of Port Huron, Laura (Stephen) Heminger of Kimball, and John Healy of Flint, 16 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Chester, daughter, Beverly Scharnakau, parents, Wilfred and Lila Mathews, and a sister, Sarah Bowen.

The funeral service will take place at 11 AM Friday in the Smith Family Funeral Home - North, 1525 Hancock Street with Pastor Jack Dundas officiating. A graveside committal service will follow in Ruby cemetery. Pallbearers will be Richard Healy, John Healy, David Warner, John Schleicher, Joshua Healy, and David Reinbold.Friends may visit one hour before the service beginning at 10 AM.

Carrie Bahr

Carrie Lynn Eschker Bahr, 28, passed away peacefully in her home after a long illness on Monday, September 26, 2005.

She was born on November 28, 1976 in Port Huron and was a lifelong area resident.

Carrie loved spending time with her daughter, fiancé' and family. Carrie loved coaching and playing softball and was most recently employed at Sam's Club for 9 years. Carrie was pursuing a career in criminal justice. She enjoyed puzzles, scrapbooking, playing the french horn and alto saxophone. She was an active member of St. Christopher Catholic Church.

She is survived by her fiance', Tom Dobbyn; daughter Alexis Bahr; Father Bill (Brenda) Eschker; mother, Jeanette (Ray) Maertens; sister to Brett Maertens (Fon), Shawn Maertens (Candy), Laurie Maertens (Dave), Christine Maertens (Lance), Jodi Maertens (Andrew), Kelly Maertens, Cara Maertens, Elizabeth Maertens, Luis Lopez, Vanessa Hale and Gage Dunlop, her niece Makayla Conger, grandmother Theresa DeLano and deeply missed by numerous uncles, aunts and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her grandmother Eleanor Stein and grandfather Alvin DeLano.

Funeral services are 10 a.m. Friday in St. Christopher Catholic Church. The. Rev. Gerald F. Britz will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant cemetery.

Visitation is 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at KarrerSimpson Funeral Home and 9 a.m. Friday at church. A rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. today.

Pallbearers will be Brett and Shawn Maertens, Lance Singles, Andrew Ruppel, Norm Giraud, and Dave Conger.

Memorials are requested to the American Cancer Society.

Glenn Hayre

Glenn E. Hayre, age 85, of Lakeport, died Saturday, August 13, 2005 in Port Huron Hospital after a short illness. Glenn Hayre started his life on February 2, 1920 in Boise City, Oklahoma.

When he was just 3 years old, along with his parents and his sister Helen, Glenn traveled from Boise, Oklahoma to Pittsburg, Kansas in a covered wagon with a team of horses. Later, the family moved to Arkansas where Glenn spent his growing up years. Glenn served in the Army during World War II, and married Lorena Byers on April 16, 1945. He retired from Jervis Webb Storage Systems, and also worked many years for United Trucking. During his lifetime Glenn enjoyed gardening and raising animals. He especially enjoyed reading and studying God's Word - The Bible. Glenn was an active member of the North Lakeport Wesleyan Church where he served on the board for several years and also spent many years teaching Sunday school. Glenn and his wife spent many hours of free time visiting shut-ins and delivering meals with 'Meals on Wheels.' Glenn was happy to lead a Bible study for the residents of the Evangelical Home for 15 years. Glenn and Lorena greatly enjoyed traveling and were fortunate enough to travel throughout the United States to visit family and were even able to visit Canada, the British Isles, and the Scandinavian countries. He is survived by his wife, Lorena of Lakeport, a son, David G. (Michele) Hayre of Lakeport, a daughter, Carolyn (Douglas) McNeill of Port Huron, 3 granddaughters, Laura (Mark) Kerrigan and Stephanie (Tony) Rosado both of Port Huron, and Jenna Hayre of Lakeport, a grandson, Cory Johnson of Lakeport, 2 great-grandsons, Gunnar and Douglas Kerrigan both of Port Huron, a brother, Howard (Wanda) Hayre of Granbury, Texas, a sister, Sue (RC) Worthan of Osage Beach, Missouri, and a sister-in-law Erma Hayre Blackburn of Centerton, Arkansas. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Elsie Hayre, a sister, Helen Womack, and a brother, Walter Hayre.

The funeral service will take place at 11 AM Thursday in the North Lakeport Wesleyan Church with The Rev. Drew Mills officiating. Burial will follow in Burtchville Twp cemetery. Pallbearers will be Mark Kerrigan, Tony Rosado, Fred Keener, Bob and John Schuman, and Charles Roome. Friends may visit Tuesday and Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM in the Smith Family Funeral Home - North, 1525 Hancock Street. Friends may also visit at church on Thursday beginning at 10 AM. Memorials may be made to the North Lakeport Wesleyan Church.

Greta Hency

Greta A. Hency, 88 of Port Huron, passed away Sunday, September 5, 2005 in Port Huron Hospital. She was born to John and Gordia Emerick on May 27, 1917 in Detroit, MI and married Harold Hency on August 22, 1936 in Mt. Clemens. He died on September 28, 1983.

Greta was a long-time, active member of First United Methodist Church and was a member of the Red Hat Society. She was also a past president of the area medical assistants association.

She is survived by her son, Charles J. (Lynn Carpa) Hency of Port Huron; her daughter, Patricia L. Keltz of Clinton Twp.; three grandchildren, Dean C. Hency and his fiancée Naomi Page of Port Huron, Wendee Keltz of Farmington Hills, & Beckee Williams of Clinton Twp.; her sister Edna (Frank) Kitchen of Goodells; two sisters-in-law; and several nieces & nephews.

Interment was in Ruby cemetery. A service in Greta's memory will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 22, 2005 in First United Methodist Church. The Rev. David Gladstone, Senior Pastor of First United Methodist Church, will officiate.

Contributions may be made in her memory to the American Red Cross Disaster Fund. Cremation arrangements were by Smith Family Funeral Home-North, 1525 Hancock St.

William Renno

William E. Renno, age 76, of Lakeport died Wednesday, September 21, 2005 in Mercy Hospital after a short battle with cancer.

He was born September 3, 1929 in Detroit and lived in Lakeport for over 50 years.

He married Joyce Hiott on April 30, 1949 in Port Huron.

He worked at Mueller Brass for 42 years. Bill coached Little League baseball in Lakeport. He also enjoyed playing golf.

He is survived by his wife, Joyce Renno of Lakeport; three sons, Kirk (Diane) Renno of Waterford, Michael (Susan) Renno of Lees Summit, Missouri, and Kevin (Kimberlee) Renno of Port Huron; a daughter, Diane (Patrick) Relken of Fort Gratiot; six grandsons, Jeff, Keith, Ken, Kyle, and Korrey Renno, and Ryan (Meredith) Relken; five granddaughters, Jennifer and Kristine Renno, Heather and Lindsey Relken, and Jody (Pete) Catalanotte; four sisters, Ada (Al) Turney of Port Huron, Bonnie (Jim) Tabush, Sue Gibson, and Barb (Bud) Siler all of California; two brothers, Del (Marilee) Renno of Arizona and Bob Renno of California, and several nieces and nephews.

Friends may visit with the family Thursday from 6 to 9 p.m. in the Smith Family Funeral Home North, 1525 Hancock Street.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Friday in the funeral home.

Friends may also visit with the family one hour before the service on Friday.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Catherine Roelens

Catherine E. Roelens, 68, of Port Huron Township, died Monday, July 18, 2005 in Mercy Hospital after a short illness.

She was born December 24, 1936 in Port Huron and was a life long resident.

Catherine married Charles V. Roelens June 20, 1953 in Port Huron at St. Joseph Church.

She was a member of St. Stephen Church and St. Anne's Altar Society where she participated in various activities. Catherine loved gardening and raising her flowers. She was very devoted to her family.

Catherine is survived by her husband, Charles; her son, Charles A. (Grace) of Fallbrook, CA; daughter, Susan K. Vanhuylenbrouck of Port Huron; her sons, Timothy J. (Cheryl) of North Street, Larry J. (Helen) of Lapeer, MI and Richard M. (Pattie) of North Street; 13 grandchildren; three great grandchildren; her sister, Mary L. (Eugene) Loxton of Port Huron and her brothers, William A. (Helen) and Charles R. Langolf, both of Port Huron. She is also survived by aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Victoria Marie Roelens and her brothers, Edward and Wally Langolf.

Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday in St. Stephen Church. The Rev. Paul LaForge, a visiting priest will preside.

Burial will be in Mt. Hope cemetery.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Larry and Ryan Roelens, Matt and Mark Fowler and Jonathan and T. J. Roelens.

Memorials in her memory may be made to St. Stephen Church.
