Jane Saul

Jane Christina (Snyder) Saul, age 80, of Fort Gratiot, died Tuesday, October 11, 2005.

Jane was born December 30, 1924 in Toledo, Ohio to Anthony and Emma (Nissen) Snyder.

She grew up in the neighborhood known at the time as "Peanut Hill" in Toledo and graduated from Waite High School in 1942.

She married her high school sweetheart George "Max" Saul on May 12, 1944 when he was home from the Navy during WWll. He died on May 22, 2002.

In the 58 years of their marriage, Jane created their home in many locations including St. Clair, Muskegon, Grand Rapids, and Lansing as well as Pennyslvania and Ohio. Eventually, they retired in Port Huron. Along the way, she raised their three children and managed their home with grace and determination.

Jane loved her home and family. She found joy and peace in simple meticulous housekeeping and loved to work in her garden. She had a passion for home decorating. Jane had a remarkable eye for color and beauty that was reflected in the warmth of their home. She also enjoyed music and loved to sing.

Jane took great pleasure in helping others. At one time, she worked in the nursery of Lansing Sparrow Hospital where she especially enjoyed caring for newborn infants. In Port Huron, she enjoyed her volunteer work with the American Red Cross.

She is survived by her son, Dr. G. Michael Saul of Fresno, CA; daughter and soninlaw Robyn and William Mosher of Port Huron; son and daughter inlaw Kevin and Renae Saul of Lansford, PA; and a brother James Snyder of Fort Myers, FL. Jane is also survived by her beloved grandchildren Heather, Kristy, and Joshua Saul of Villas, NJ; Bryan (Arwen) Mosher of Ypsilanti, MI; Michael and Matthew Saul of Fresno, CA; Jared and Nicholas Bales of Lansford, PA.

Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 20, 2005 at the KarrerSimpson Funeral Home. The Rev. Robert Trask of Grace Episcopal Church will officiate.

Burial will be in the Lakeside cemetery.

Cheryl McCollam

Cheryl L. McCollam, 53 of Port Huron, passed away unexpectedly of natural causes on August 24, 2005 in Port Huron Hospital. She was born to Eugene and Rosemary Mitz on September 3, 1951 in Detroit, attended the Detroit area schools, and graduated from Michigan State University.

Cheryl was a registered nurse at Hutzel Hospital, Detroit for 14 years. She enjoyed collecting antiques, photography, and spending time outdoors with her husband, Richard. She particularly liked watching wildlife, especially loons. She also liked to do all kinds of crafts.

Cheryl is survived by her husband, W. Richard McCollam; two sons, Michael Hauxwell of Garden City, MI & Sean Hauxwell of Hessel, MI; and her sister, Debbie (John) Dombroski of Phoenix, AZ.

A service in Cheryl's memory will take place at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 30, 2005 in Smith Family Funeral Home-North, 1525 Hancock St. The Rev. Max Amstutz, Port Huron Hospital Chaplin, will officiate. Visitation will be in the funeral home on Tuesday beginning at 10:00 a.m.

Contributions may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.

Allen Fay

Allen L. Fay, age 65, of Kimball Twp. joined his wife Alice in Heaven on September 28, 2005. He was born November 11, 1939 in Somerset, Kentucky and has lived in the Port Huron area for the past 25 years. He married Alice Johnson on March 4, 1960 in Auburn Hills. She preceded him in death on May 30, 1999. Al served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was a member of the VFW in Port Huron. He was a construction worker and a member of Laborers International Union of North America Local 1025. Al was a musician for over 50 years and played both steel and lead guitar. He was loved deeply, and will be missed by family and friends. He is survived by five children, Cheryllyn L. (David) Gosselin of Columbus Twp., Allyn L. Fay of St. Clair, Curtis L. (Rebecca) Fay of Jeddo, Crystil L. (Joe) Reusser of Croswell and Karie L. Fay-Agas of Marysville, 14 grandchildren, 3 sisters, Clarice, Sharon, and Mary, 3 brothers, James, Donald, and Michael, his mother-in-law, Madge Johnson of Rochester Hills, 3 sisters-in-law, Linda, Sheila, and Janie, and a brother-in-law, Robert. He was preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Marilyn Fay, a brother Harlan Fay, and his father-in-law, John Johnson. The funeral service will take place at 2 PM Saturday in the Smith Family Funeral Home - North, 1525 Hancock Street with The Rev. Bernie Long officiating. Burial will follow in Burtchville Twp. cemetery. Friends may visit on Saturday at the funeral home beginning at 1:30 PM.

Marcella Eagen

Marcella E. Eagen, 85, of Smiths Creek, died Tuesday, July 26, 2005 in Medilodge of St. Clair.

She was born June 11, 1920 in Detroit but lived most of her life in Smiths Creek.

She married Lawrence E. Eagen July 4, 1942 in Smiths Creek and he preceded her in death March 8, 2004.

Marcella's family and her faith were her priorities. She was devoted to her husband, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and her brothers and sisters. She also enjoyed gardening and her crafts.

She is survived by her daughter, Judy (Dave) Wronski of Smiths Creek, sons, Larry (Barb) of Marysville, Ed (Carolyn) of Englewood, FL, Harold (Sue) of Aurora, CO, Gerald (Kay) of Smiths Creek and Patrick (Jamie) of Port Huron, Daughter, Barb Lukasik of Goodells, sons, Joe (Debbie) of Marysville and Kevin (Susan) of Smiths Creek and and her daughter Kathy (Kevin) Setter of Smiths Creek; 26 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters, Shirley Winn of Utica, Mary Heidenreich of Port Huron, Eleanor (Al) Sweeney of Sparlingville, brother, Hank (Joanne) Fraley of Richmond, and sisters Rose (Pat) Werner of Kimball, Barbara (John) DeFrank of Armada, Donna (Jerry) Latowski of Warren and Carol (Bill) Ellery of Columbus; sistersinlaw Ruth Fraley of Smiths Creek, Eleanor Fraley of Memphis, Madeline (Francis) O'Connor of Naples, FL, Sr. Mary Cecelia (Dorothy) S.C. of Cincinnati, OH, Margaret Eagen of Port Huron, Norma Eagen of Smiths Creek and Sally Eagen of Marysville and numerous nieces and nephews.

Marcella was preceded in death by her daughters, Karen Mary and Alma Jean Eagen, her brothers, Ray, Jack, Floyd and Clarence Fraley her sisters, Evelyn Vermeesch, Virginia Cramer and infant Henrietta Fraley.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, July 29 in Holy Rosary Church, Smiths Creek. Rev. Joseph Horn, Pastor and Rev. Erwin Bauer, Sr. Priest will officiate.

Burial will be in St. Philip Neri cemetery, Columbus. Her grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

Visiting hours are 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, July 27 and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday in KarrerSimpson Funeral Home and Friday from 10 a.m. until Mass at the church. The Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Thursday.

Memorials in her memory may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or Holy Rosary Church.

Bernadine Noetzel

Bernadine "Bird" Naomi Noetzel, age 71, passed away Wednesday, October 19, 2005 after a lifetime battle against several serious illnesses.

She was born on October 26, 1933 in Port Huron, daughter of the late Michael E. and Verna (Sharkey) Malane.

Bernadine married Norbert "Knobby" Noetzel on April 14, 1956. He preceded her in death on June 12, 1990.

She attended the Port Huron area Catholic schools, graduating from St. Stephen High School in 1950. Bernadine was also a graduate of St. Clair County Community College.

Bernadine loved dearly and was extremely devoted to her grandchildren. She was a master gardener who was instrumental in the development and planting of the Lincoln Park Memorial Rose Garden. She spent many years and countless hours tending to the care and management of the Rose Garden.

Bernadine was also a lifelong avid antique collector and the former owner of the Bellflower ladies shop with her daughter, Elizabeth.

Surviving are her children, Martha Lindsay of Port Huron, Eric Noetzel of Port Huron, Elizabeth (Dale) Hernden, of Saginaw; her grandchildren, Brian K. and William J. Lindsay of Port Huron, Emily F. Noetzel of Dearborn, Holly M. Heiser of Marysville; her sisters, Margaret Duzinski, Joann Campbell, Geraldine Rutkowski, Betty Jane Modolewski, Patricia (Andrew) Balogh, Theresa (Ralph) Bonin, Mary (Edwin) Sawdon, Frances Bonkoske, Judith (John) Anter, and Marsha Irland; her brothers, Michael Malane, Jr. and William Malane; and her brotherinlaw, Thomas C. (Elaine) Noetzel, Sr.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and her sister Donna Czarnecki.

Funeral services are 11 a.m. Saturday in St. Mary Catholic Church. The Rev. Simeon Iber will officiate.

Visitation will be 3 to 9 p.m. today in the KarrerSimpson Funeral Home and 10 a.m. Saturday at the church. A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. this evening.

Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider the Bernadine Malane Noetzel Memorial Fund for a memorial to be placed in her honor at the Linclon Park Rose Garden.

Lillian Munro

Lillian Munro, age 94, died Friday, August 12, 2005 in Weatherford, Texas.

She was the daughter of Frank and Emma Jones of Fair Haven.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Alvin Bynum Munro in 1981 and two infant sons, Alvin and Allen.

Survivors include one daughter, Emma Fleming and husband, Floyd of Mesa, AZ; four sons, Melvin and wife, Barbara of Weatherford, TX, Eugene and wife, Marilyn of Fife Lake, MI, LeRoy and wife, Nancy of Jacksonville, FL and Ronald and wife, Carolyn of Chantilly, VA; 12 grandchildren; ten greatgrandchildren; two sisters, Edna Reichle and Ida Flanders, both of Virginia; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, August 16, 2005 in White's Chapel of Memories in Weatherford, TX with visitation in the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. today.

Mrs. Munro will be laid to rest Saturday, August 20, 2005 with committal services beginning at 11 a.m. in Sunset Memorial Gardens Chapel in Fort Gratoit. Evangelist Harold Hastings will officiate.

June Granz Bajis

June M. Granz Bajis, 86, of North Lakeport, died Friday, August 19, 2005 in Port Huron Hospital.

June was born September 10, 1918 in San Francisco, CA and had lived in North Lakeport since 1947.

She married John Frank Bajis on April 22, 1947 in San Francisco.

June attended San Francisco State and Wayne State University. She worked for Port Huron Area School District for 21 years as a special Education Teacher and Consultant. She enlisted in the Women Army Air Corps in 1942, working for the 9th Bomber command and stationed in England and Belgium. June was one of the first women to go overseas during the war, working as a bomber plotter and rose to the rank of Sergeant. The Army Air Corps chose June as a "G.I. Jane" and she appeared in several magazine articles regarding the W.A.A.C.'s.

June is survived by her former husband John F. Bajis of Lexington; daughters Jennifer Roberts of Port Elgin, Ontario; Catherine J. Bajis of Reston, Virginia and Elizabeth J. Bajis Knabe of Centreville, Virginia. Her granddaughters, Jessica Berk, Stephanie Roberts and Lauren Knabe. Soninlaws Burt Roberts and John Knabe. Several nieces, nephews and dearest friend Patty Phipps.

She was preceded in death by her parents William and Mae (Mary) Granz and her sister Muriel Granz.

Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday in St. EdwardOnTheLake Catholic Church. The Rev. T. J. Maloney will officiate. Visiting will be 9 a.m. Tuesday in the church.

Memorials are requested to the American Heart Association.

Arrangements are by the Karrer Simpson Funeral Home.

Virginia Root

Virginia C. Root, 88, died October 17, 2005.

She was born September 12, 1917 in Detroit. She has lived in the area since 1936.

She married William L. Root on November 8, 1939 in Port Huron. He died March 9, 1995.

Virginia was educated at Sacred Heart Academy in Grosse Pointe and graduated from Lexington High School in Lexington. She was employed by Chrysler Corp., The Rationing Board and retired from Port Huron Paper Co. after 27 years of service. She was a member of Grace Episcopal Church, Women of the Moose and the Elks Ladies Wednesday morning golf league.

She is survived by her daughter, Cynthia C. (Gary L.) Minnie, Burtchville; two granddaughters, Julie C. (Mark) Harju, Burtchville, and Beth Ann (Chris) Benedict, Plymouth; five greatgrandchildren; and two nieces, Judy (Roy) Johnston, Beaverton, and Virginia Strausser, Lexington.

She was preceded in death by her brother Charles Crosman and sister Marie Cline.

Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday in KarrerSimpson Funeral Home. The Reverend Robert P. Trask, Rector of Grace Episcopal Church, will officiate.

Visitation will be 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and from 1 p.m. until service time on Thursday.

Those wishing to make a memorial contribution may consider Grace Episcopal Church or Sanborn Memorial Home.

Irene Heidtke

On Thursday, September 29, 2005 Irene Heidtke departed on a journey of celebration.

Irene was a life long educator and school administrator, who always looked out for the best interests of children and families. She and her family enjoyed traveling around the Great Lakes, learning about its history, culture and mystery.

In her final years, she tutored at the Michigan Dyslexia Institute of St. Clair. She was also a nanny for two very special little children in her life, a greatnephew named Andrew Ward Zauner, and a greatniece named Ava Lynn Zauner.

She was preceded in death by her mother and father, Kathryn and Eugene Chmielewski; a very special aunt, Mary Wheeler; sister and brotherinlaw, Lynn and Jerry Ward; and nephews, Michael and Gerald Dennis Ward.

She is survived by husband, John; daughters, Mary Kay (Madison Heights) and Jeanne (Grand Rapids); her sister and brotherinlaw, Rita and Luther Gilmer of Austin, TX; sisterinlaw and brotherinlaw, Christine and Cam Clark of Crystal Lake, IL; nieces and nephews, Kathy (Charlie) Peace, Rich (Marion) Ward, Jim (Peg) Ward, Sheila (Tom) Zauner, Gary Gilmer, Teresa (Renny) Lucove, Cathy (Doug) MacDougall, Dr. Patricia (Hal Scogins) Gilmer; and many greatnieces, nephews, friends and coworkers.

A celebration of Irene's life will be 10 a.m. Saturday, in St. Joseph Catholic Church. The Rev. Joseph M. Esper will officiate.

Visitation is 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday in the KarrerSimpson Funeral Home and 9 a.m. Saturday at the church. A scripture service will be at 7:30 pm on Friday.

Pallbearers are Mary Kay and Jeanne Heidtke, Rich and Jim Ward, Charlie Peace and Tom Zauner.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Catholic School of your choice, the Sisters Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, Monroe, Michigan or the Michigan Dyslexia Institute, St. Clair Scholarship Fund.

John Ludington

John A. Ludington, 77 of Port Huron, passed away Thursday, September 1, 2005 in Evangelical Home Port Huron. He was born to Frank and Ethel Ludington on May 9, 1928 in Port Huron.

John served in the U.S. Army Signal Corps in Alaska after working at Morrison's Dairy Farm west of Lakeport and Nelson Blumrich Dairy Farm in Capac for many years. He later worked as a buffer at Sterling Sink and as a painter at Masco Corp in Port Huron. He was an antique engine fan and each year he would attend the Antique Engine Show held in Buckley, MI.

He is survived by his brother Walter A. (Jane Wheatly) Ludington and his brother-in-law Harold Zeros, both of Kimball Twp.; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Helen Zeros.

The funeral service will be at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 6, 2005 in Smith Family Funeral Home-South, 1230 Seventh St. Evangelist Harold Hastings will officiate. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens cemetery. Visitation will be in the funeral home from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
