DALE CARTER
Dale Carter, 75, was born on January 23, 1934 in Cheboygan, the son of William and Ethel (DeLoy) Carter and the eleventh of their 13 children. He passed away April 9, 2009 in the Tavares, Florida hospice house.

As a youth, he was very involved with the Cheboygan Boy’s Club. At 14 years old he was selected as regional winner of the Boy’s Club Junior Citizenship Award for the states of Michigan, Kentucky, Indiana and Ohio. As a teen he was mayor of local Boys Club, camp counselor and helped build and raise funds for the Pete Kendzorski Recreation Center in Cheboygan.

After graduation from Cheboygan High School in 1953, he enlisted in the Army serving in Korea and Japan. He was in the Special Category Army Unit Reassigned with the Air Force unit or SCARWAF. He was in the Army but assigned to build airstrips for the Air Force.

He married Elaine Morgan 50 years ago in Marlette.

They had two daughters: Vicky (Dave) Plummer of Gaylord and Karen Mallory of Lansing and three grandchildren – Heather and Jamie Plummer and Andrew Mallory.

He worked for 33 years as Route #3 mail carrier in Marlette retiring in 1997. When he started the route, there were still some corduroy roads (logs used as base for the roads). He received the post office’s safety award for all 33 years.

His hobby was carpentry. He built their home in Marlette and after retiring constructed their home in Cheboygan. He also built a camper, travel trailer, furniture, etc. He enjoyed travelling visiting all but five of the states.

His brother Vern (Pat) Carter and sister Alice (Bill) Nichols of Cheboygan survive him. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Norman, Wallace, and Benjamin and sisters Irene, Ruth, Ada, Wanda, June, Jacqueline and Gloria.

He never smoked or worked around chemicals, but developed pulmonary fibroses and lung cancer. His request was to have his body donated to science to help others. A private burial will be held in the summer.

PEGGY J. VORE
Peggy J. Vore, 66, of Flint, passed away Monday, April 6, 2009 at Heritage Manor Health Care Center in Flint. She has lived in Flint the past seven years and was previously from the Clifford area.

She was born July 19, 1942 in Detroit, daughter to the late James and Irene (Ogden) Weeks. She was former member of the Hope Lutheran Church.

She is survived by her daughter, Katherine (Leo Hedger) Hoig of Clifford; grandchildren, Derek and Dyland Hoig of Clifford and Abigail Hedger also of Clifford; brother, Jim (Coreen) Weeks of Holly; sisters, Patricia (Thomas) Schlenkert of West Bloomfield and Barbara Hart of Clifford; nephews, Donnie (Georgette) Hart of South Carolina and Chad Ferguson of Yale and a niece, Rhonda Ferguson of Yale.

She was preceded in death by her parents and son, Robbie Vore.

Funeral services were conducted Saturday, April 11, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. at Marsh Funeral Chapel in Marlette.

Burial was in the Marlette cemetery.

Memorials may be donated to the family.

BEULA E. LARKIN
Beula E. Larkin,90, of Lapeer went home to be with the Lord Monday, April 6, 2009 at Lapeer Regional Hospital in Lapeer.

She was born September 16, 1918 in Erie, Pennsylvania daughter to the late Warren and Sarah (Zepernick) Moyer.

She married Rev. John E. Larkin on December 23, 1941 in Fremont, Ohio. He has preceded her in death on January 6, 2006.

She has been living in Lapeer the past six years and previously in Vermilion, OH. Prior to living in Vermillion, she lived in Marlette, where her husband John pastored the Bethel Church for 18 years. She was very active in the work at Bethel church serving as Choir Director, Head of Nursery, Organist and the various women’s group organizations of the church. She also worked as a sales clerk at the former Ray’s Mens Wear in Marlette. She also worked with her husband John as an Independent Shaklee Business Owner for several years in Marlette before retiring to live in Vermilion, OH.

She enjoyed music, playing the organ, fishing and going to the cabin in Grayling. But, most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her family as a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

She is survived by sons John (Carol) Larkin of Jackson, Rick Larkin of Lapeer and Rod (Danette) Larkin also of Lapeer; 11 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents Warren and Sarah Moyer, husband John Larkin and sister Ruby Wells. Funeral services were conducted Thursday, April 9, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. at Marsh Funeral Chapel in Marlette, with son, Pastor John Larkin officiating.

Burial took place at the Marlette cemetery.

Memorials may be donated to Lapeer County Medical Care Facility (Suncrest) or to the family.

JOEL A. GALLOWAY
Joel A. Galloway, 48, of Decker, died suddenly Saturday, March 28, 2009 with his wife Lynda in a auto accident in Tuscola County.
He was born August 27, 1960 in Marlette, son to Lee and Dorris (Vining) Galloway.

He served his country in the U.S. Navy.

He married Lynda Osburn on August 17, 1979 in Washington State. He is survived by four sons, Joshua (Heather) Galloway, Jonathon Galloway of Cass City, Lauren (Samantha) Galloway of Cass City and Thomas Galloway of Cass City; three grandchildren Matthew, Shannon and Aydin Galloway of Cass City; parents Lee and Dorris Galloway of Decker; five brothers, Michael (Donna) Galloway of Decker, Brian (Theresa) Galloway of Arkansas, Daniel (Ann) Galloway of Snover, Leon (Mary Jane) Galloway of Snover and Brent Galloway of Decker: a sister Mary (Lou) Martin of Decker; several nieces and nephews.

Cremation has taken place at the Sunset Hills Crematory in Flint. A memorial service was conducted on Saturday, April 4, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. in the Shabbona United Methodist Church in Decker, with Pastor Ellen Burns officiating. Memorials may be donated to the family.

LYNDA L. GALLOWAY
Lynda L. Galloway of Decker, died suddenly Saturday, March 28, 2009 with her husband Joel in a auto accident in Tuscola County.
She was born September 26, 1959 in Marlette to Grant and Mary (Stair) Osburn. She graduated from Marlette High School in 1978.

She served her country in the U.S.Navy.

She married Joel Galloway on August 17, 1979 in Washington State. She worked for the Mulberry House Adult Foster Care in Marlette the past several years.

She is survived by four sons, Joshua (Heather) Galloway of Cass City, Jonathon Galloway of Cass City, Lauren (Samantha) Galloway of Cass City and Thomas Galloway of Cass City; three grandchildren Matthew, Shannon and Aydin Galloway of Cass City; her mother Mary Osburn of Marlette, five brothers, Randy (Nancy) Osburn of Kentucky, Keith (Denise) Osburn of Washington State, Stanley (Gloria) Osburn of Carson City, TX, William (Tina) Osburn of Texas and Kenneth (Denise) Osburn of Washington State; three sisters, Barbara (Harold) Deuel of Marion, IA, Joyce (Gary) Leveille of Clifford and JoAnn (Glenn) Wilcox of Marlette and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father, Grant Osburn. Cremation has taken place at the Sunset Hills Crematory in Flint. A memorial service was conducted on Saturday, April 4, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. in Shabbona United Methodist Church in Decker, with Pastor Ellen Burns officiating. Memorials may be donated to the family.

ETHEL MARIE BEARDSLEE
Ethel M. Beardslee, 94, of Newberry, passed away at the Newberry Assisted Living Facility on Tuesday, March 31, 2009.
She was born in Peck, MI. on August 22, 1914, to Theron and Frances (Dunn) VanSickle. She was a resident of the Marlette area until 1990 when she moved to Newberry.

On August 22, 1936 she married William Emerson Beardslee. He preceded her in death in 1990.

Her greatest joy came from watching her grandchildren and great-grandchildren grow up.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Theron (Jan) Breadslee of Punta Gorda, FL and daughters and sons-in-law, Mary Margaret (Carl) Klaty of Newberry, Elaine (Ken) Cook of Troy, and Esther Greenleaf of Auburn. Also surviving are five grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and extended family members at the assisted living facility. She was preceded in death by three brothers and four sisters.

Funeral services were conducted on Saturday, April 4, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at the Kranz Funeral Home in Cass City with Jerome Frandle and Bill Denk officiating.

Those wishing to make a donation in her memory may do so to the Northwood Hospice of Newberry, MI. Interment will take place at Novesta Township cemetery, Cass City. Family and friends may share memories, prayers and stories with the family at www.kranzfuneralhome.com.

THELMA I. HAZEN
Thelma (Heussner) Hazen, 82, passed away peacefully on March 23, 2009. She was born November 13, 1926 in Snover, Michigan to the late Norman and Mattie Heussner.
She attended Marlette Community School. She married Don Hazen on February 2, 1944. They lived and raised their five children in the Marlette area. The couple enjoyed many years of square dancing and bowling.

She was a wonderful gardener, seamstress, cook and loved to paint.

She worked as a bookkeeper, clerk and was co-owner with daughter, Linda of The Country Crate for several years.

She was a member of Hope Lutheran Church and served in many ways.

She had a great love of family and will be sadly missed by all.

She is survived by her husband, Don of 65 years; daughters: Lois (Ron) Harneck; Linda (Roger) Wilson; Brenda (Roger) Redmond; Kris (Bob) Diegel; 11 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; son, James Donald Hazen and brother, Leonard Heussner.

Funeral services were conducted on Thursday, March 26, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at Marsh Funeral Chapel in Marlette. Pastor Bart Mueller officiated.

Burial was in the Christian Memorial Cultural Center in Peck, Michigan.

Memorials may be donated to Hope Lutheran Church, United Hospice Service or the donation of your choice.

BEATRICE E. ROSS
Beatrice E. Ross, 88, of Marlette died Tuesday, March 3, 2009 at Gratiot Medical Center in Alma. Mrs. Ross has lived in Marlette since 1942 and was previously from Girard, Michigan area.
She was born February 10, 1921 in Coldwater, Michigan, daughter to the late Roland and Dorothy (Youse) Wagoner.

She graduated from Coldwater High School in 1937 and W.M.U. in 1942 with her teaching degree.

She married Morris C. Ross June 19, 1943 in Girard, Michigan. He preceded her in death on January 17, 1993.

She taught English and was Librarian in Marlette High School for many years and also taught at Brown City High School.

Mrs. Ross was a member of the Marlette First United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, G.F.W.C. and Eastern Star's in Marlette. After her retirement from teaching she tutored many students in the area.

She is survived by sons, Bill (Lynn) Ross of Cadillac and Jim (Doreen) Ross of Marlette; daughter, Moreen Greenlick of Grand Blanc; brothers, Max (Jean) Wagoner of Kentucky and Barry (Mary) Wagoner of Whitemore Lake; son-in-law Rocco Tenaglia of Lapeer; special friend and relative Maxine Ganyard of Albuquerque, NM; 7 grandchildren Scott Franzel, Todd Franzel, Ben Ross, Christen Ross, David Ross, Nicholas Ross, and Andrew Ross, 12 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter, Janet Tenaglia; infant daughter, Christina Ross, son-in-law James Greenlick and sister, Helen Jane Matthews.

Funeral services were conducted on Saturday, March 7, 2009 at 11 a.m. in the Marlette First United Methodist Church with Rev. Daniel Bowman officiating. Burial will be in the Marlette cemetery.

Memorials may be donated to the Marlette First United Methodist Church.
