ALBERT L. McCOON
Albert L. McCoon passed away peacefully among family and friends Thursday December 18, 2008 at Marlette Hospice House.
Mr. McCoon was born August 18, 1929 in Fairgrove, son to the late James B. and Edith (Sangster) McCoon, and lived in Marlette since early childhood. He was a life-long resident of Tuscola County.

He married Naomi Crisan on his birthday, August 18, 1951 in Bad Axe, and they raised five wonderful children. They owned and operated a dairy farm in the Marlette area and were members of the Tuscola County Retarded Children’s Association. He drove bus for Marlette Schools for over 30 years and also drove for the Marlette Athletic teams for most of that time. He enjoyed fishing and hunting.

He is survived by his sons, Robert McCoon of Davie, Florida, Donnie McCoon of Marlette and Allen McCoon of Marlette, daughter Deborah and Don Bonwell of Rogers, Arkansas; grandchildren Chase and Kendra Bonwell of Rogers, Arkansas and Tony Bonwell of Warren, Michigan; sisters Linda Gomes of Marlette, Carole Dalrymple of Flint; sister-in-law Johanna McCoon of Marlette and many special nieces and nephews.

He was proceeded in death in October by his wife of 57 years, Naomi; his daughter Janet; his parents; his brothers Robert and Jack McCoon; and sister Joyce Cook.

Funeral services were conducted on Tuesday, December 23, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. at Marsh Funeral Chapel in Marlette, with Pastor Hubert Howell officiating. Interment will be in the Siple cemetery, Marlette, MI.

Donations to the Family of Marlette Hospice.

PAULINE HURD
Pauline Hurd, 93, passed away peacefully Wednesday, December 17, 2008 at her home in Marlette.
She was born December 23, 1914 in Saginaw, daughter to the late John and Effie (Williams) Schell.

She married Harold T. Hurd Sr. on August 22, 1931 in Garrett, Indiana. He preceded her in death April 28, 1991.

Mrs. Hurd and her husband moved to Marlette in 1942 and own and operated Marlette Bakery for 37 years until their retirement in 1977.

She was a long time member of the Marlette First Presbyterian Church.

She enjoyed to travel and, most of all, her family.

She is survived by sons, David Hurd of Bridgeport and Robert (Ellen) Hurd of Marlette; daughter, Paula (Clyde) Phillips of Marlette; 28 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Harold Jr. and 11brothers and sisters.

Funeral services were conducted Monday, December 22, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at Marsh Funeral Chapel in Marlette, with Pastor Chris Wolf of Marlette First Presbyterian Church officiating.

Cremation followed the service at Sunset Valley Crematory in Bay City, with burial of cremains at a later date at Marlette cemetery.

Memorials may be given to United Hospice Service, or the donation of your choice.

GEORGE GOTTLER
George Gottler, Sr, 69, of Imlay City passed away Thursday, December 11, 2008 at Port Huron Hospital.
George Frank Gottler was born on May 12, 1939 in Clifford, Michigan. He was the son of Adam and Elizabeth Gottler. He grew up in Clifford. He spent the last 40 years in the Imlay City area.

He married Avis Sharon Moore on September 20, 1966 in Ellington, Michigan. He retired in 1994 after 30 years from Plant 18 in Pontiac as a “chipper” in the maintenance department.

He was a member of Beulah Church of the Nazarene in Lapeer.

He is survived by his wife Avis Sharon Gottler of Imlay City, sons, George (Kiamichi) Jr., of Imlay City, and James (Toni) of Imlay City; daughter, Tammy (Scott) of Imlay City; 7 grandchildren, Justina, Justin, Amber, Sierra, Breanna, Frank and Ginger and a sister, Katheryn (Dick) of Clifford.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Adam and Elizabeth Gottler.

A memorial service will be held at Beulah Church of the Nazarene in Lapeer.

LEWIS J. LESTER
Lewis J. Lester, 79, passed away peacefully at his home December 17, 2008. He was born July 4, 1929 in Marlette, the son of the late Lewis and Jenetta (Cole) Lester. He served for four years in the United States Army and graduated from Central Michigan University with a degree in Education. Following graduation, he began a teaching career for many years which took him to schools throughout Michigan. Upon his retirement, he began driving bus in Bellaire for senior citizens. He loved fishing and sports of all kinds and coached football, baseball, basketball and track in his years as a teacher.
He is survived by three brothers and one sister, Leland Lester of Cass City, Leslie Lester of Marlette, Eunice Wills of Brooksfield, Florida, Richard L. (Delores) Lester of Kingston; one sister-in-law, Letha Lester of Florida; many nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by three brothers and one sister, Eldritz Lester, Lawrence Lester, Louise Wilkinson and Jim Lester.

Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at the Marlette Community of Christ Church after the holidays, and will be announced by the Ransford Funeral Home as details become available. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider memorial contributions to the Kingston VFW Post #5317 or the Kingston Emergency Rescue Unit.

HELEN M. (STEVENS) ROBINET
Helen M. (Stevens) Robinet, 92, passed away in Flushing, MI., Tuesday, December 9, 2008 surrounded by family at the Fostrian Court Manor.
She was born January 22, 1916 in Silverwood, MI, daughter to the late Lyman and Agnes (Shippey) Teeple.

She and her husband Edwin Robinet moved to an assisted living facility near Flint in April of 2004 where they would be near her daughter Shirley Burke. She enjoyed generally good health and a sweet disposition, gaining the love and admiration of her excellent caregivers at Fostrain Manor Care.

She enjoyed monthly lunches at Jack’s in Brown City, MI., with relatives and long time friends, as well as frequent family get-togethers. She also enjoyed gardening, quilting, playing cards and. most of all, her family.

Her only lament in growing old was that she continued to lose many of her long-time friends.

She was the proud charter member of the Burnside Matrons Club (its still active), which she attended for over 60 years.

She married Aldred Stevens in March of 1934 and raised four children together. They farmed near Burnside until 1971 when they retired and moved to Marlette, where they enjoyed each others’ love and friendship of many relatives and friends, as well as the escape from Michigan winters while at their winter home in Florida. Aldred succumbed to a sudden heart attack in February of 1977. In 1981, she married Paul Pernish, an Owosso friend they had met in Florida. Paul died in 1986. She rekindled a friendship with Edwin Robinet’s sisters, who introduced her and Edwin. They were married in 1991. They enjoyed life in Marlette and Florida.

Helen was preceded in death by her daughter, Beverly (1986) and son Evart (1983). She is survived by her son Lyman and wife Lois Stevens of Albuquerque, NM; daughter Shirley and husband Patrick Burke of Montrose, MI; daughter-in-law Gail Stevens of DeWitt, MI; son-in-law Donald Senko of Plymouth, MI; eight grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted on Saturday, December 13, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. in the Marsh Funeral Chapel in Marlette, with Rev. Daniel Bowman officiating. Burial will be in the Maple Grove cemetery in North Branch, MI.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, you remember and honor Helen by donations to Heartland Hospice or the charity of your choice.

WILLIAM A. JOHNSON
William A. (Bill) Johnson of Belding passed quietly from this life in his home surrounded by his daughters December 9, 2008 after 82 years of hard work, love and laughter.
He was born September 12, 1926 in Roylston Twp. in Tuscola County, Michigan the son of Claude and Mable Robinson Johnson.

He was employed for 43 years as a track foreman on the railroad. After retirement, he enjoyed mowing lawns in the community and having tea at the coffee shops. He proudly served his country in the US Army serving in the Korean War and earning the Korean Service Medal and the Bronze Star.

He was a member of the VFW Post 4406 in Belding, serving four terms as commander; he also was a member of the American Legion Post 203 in Belding. He was preceded in death by his wives Opal, Barbara and Anne Louise and his daughters, Sally May, Martha Jane and Catherine and son, John and grandson, Michael Senn. He was also preceded by his brothers Jack, Daniel, Harry and sister, Betty New.

He will be sadly missed by his daughters, Linda and Edward Senn of Stanton, Joanne and Marcus Harman of Bethany, OK, Carol and John Brickner of Tiffin, Ohio, Mary Lou and Douglas Himebaugh of Fruitport, and son-in-law, James Dickey of Arley, Alabama. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Jason (Joanna) and John (Jennifer) Senn, Marcus, Jeremiah, and Sam Harman, John (Kari) Justin and Joseph Brickner, Erich Himebaugh, Anna Maria, James Jr.(Kristine), William Dickey; five great grandchildren, Karter, Clay, Evan, Kendall, and Griffin Senn; his brothers, Norman (Linda)Johnson and Marvin Johnson; sister, Shirley Lester; sister in law, Wanda Johnson; many nieces and nephews and his beloved dog, Sara (most beautiful old dog).

Funeral services with Military Honors will be at 10:30 am Saturday at Johnson-Feuerstein Funeral Home, Belding. Visitation will be Saturday morning from 9-10:30. Interment with graveside services will be 3:30 pm. at Marlette cemetery in Marlette, Michigan.

Memorial contributions may be given to Heartlands Hospice Memorial Fund. Condolences may also be given to the Johnson Family at the website of the funeral home, www.jffh.com.

EDWARD L. HUNTOON
Edward L. Huntoon, 87, of Marlette, died Friday, December 05, 2008 at Marlette Hospice Residence in Marlette, Michigan.
He was born September 14, 1921 in Ovid, Michigan, the son of the late Harry and Bertha (Easlick) Huntoon.

He was a 1942 graduate of Ovid High School, he earned his Bachelors Degree from Western Michigan University in 1946, and moved to Marlette.

He married Viviene Foster on May 24, 1947 in Parchment, MI.

He taught Industrial Arts at Marlette Community School for 13 yrs, he then established, owned and operated Huntoon Lumber.

He was an active member of the Marlette First United Methodist Church, and was a past member of the Marlette School Board.

He is survived by his wife, Viviene; Melanie Sletten (daughter) of Virginia, Doris Huntoon (daughter) of Marlette, Ted and Sue Huntoon (son) of Marlette, Marilee and Paul Atkins (daughter) of Imlay City, Marilyn and Tom Duke (Daughter) of Novi, Doris Kniffen (sister) of Escanaba; 12 grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother, George and a sister, Arlene Fluelling. Cremation was at the Sunset Valley Crematory in Bay City.

A memorial service was held Monday, December 8, 2008 at 11:00 A.M. at Marlette First United Methodist Church.

With Rev. Daniel Bowman officiating, with visitation from 10 - 11 AM.

Memorial suggestions are for grandchildren Jason and Emily Atkins, Youth for Christ Missionaries; United Hospice of Marlette; or Marlette First United Methodist Church Endowment Fund.

FRED WILLIAM WIDGER
Fred W. Widger, 72 of Kingston, died Sunday November 30, 2008 in his home. He married Juanita Merle Ross September 26, 1959 in Marlette.
He was a lifelong dairy farmer until 1977 when he sold the cows and began a job with Kingston Community Schools. He worked there until his retirement in 1997. He was a member of the Clifford Lions Club and the Michigan Milk Producers Association.

He loved to deer hunt. He enjoyed camping and woodworking, making many treasures for his family. He loved to have his family near and especially loved Sunday dinners when the entire family gathered to share a meal and each other’s company.

He is survived by his wife, Juanita, children: Tracy (Lorn Harneck) Smith of Kingston, Jeff (Loretha) Widger of Lacey, WA, Brad (Ginny) Widger of New Hudson, Amy (Tim) Barden of Kingston, Rob (Patricia) Widger of Fenton; grandchildren: Heather Smith, Nathan Harneck, Crystal (Charles) Kuhn, Monique Widger, Tenee (Orlando) Harris, Jeffrey Widger Jr., Grant Widger, Lauren Widger, Berlin Barden, James Barden, Bailey Barden, Emma Widger, Kyle Widger: great-grandchildren: Renee, Elijah, Jasmine, Lorenzo and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sisters: Martha Campbell, Edna Busier; brother, Paul Widger.

Funeral services were conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 6, 2008 in the Kranz Funeral Home Kingston with Debra L. Kranz, Funeral Service Celebrant officiating. Interment will be in Kingston cemetery, Kingston.

Memorials may be made to United Hospice of Marlette or American Heart Association. Family and friends may share memories, prayers and stories with the family at www.kranzfuneralhome.com.
