HARRIET DETKOWSKI
Harriet Detkowski, 92, passed away Thursday, November 28, 2002 at the Lapeer Regional Hospital in Lapeer, Michigan.
She lived in Clifford and was previously from the Cheboygan area.

She was born on October 15, 1910 in East St. Louis, Missouri, the daughter of the late Julius and Sophia Gembarski.

She married George Detkowski, Sr. on January 12, 1931 in Port Austin, Michigan. He preceded her in death on September 18, 1991.

She was a home maker and a member of the St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Marlette.

She is survived by sons, George (Carmen) Detkowski, Jr. of Clifford, Richard (Sharon) Detkowski of Metamora, MI. and Jerry Detkowski of Mayville; daughters, Joanne Howard of Clarkston, MI. and Patricia Duffiney of Hadley, MI.; a sister, Regina (Don) Pethers of Mason, MI.; 20 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren and 14 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a son, Robert; four brothers and five sisters.

Cremation will take place at the Sunset Valley Crematory in Bay City, MI.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 7, 2002 at 11:00 a.m. in the St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Marlette with Fr. Richard Bokinskie officiating.

Visitation with the family will be held on Saturday, December 7 from 10:30 a.m. until the time of memorial service at the church.

Memorials may be given to a donation of choice.

Arrangements by Marsh Funeral Chapel, Marlette.

JANETTE LORAINE FERGUSON
Janette L. Ferguson, 70, of Marlette passed away Tuesday, November 26, 2002 in Covenant Cooper, Saginaw.
She was born on January 18, 1932 to Paul and Mary (Poirer) Lobb in Detroit.

She married Dugald Ferguson on July 28, 1954 in Wyandotte. He preceded her in death on May 31, 2000.

She attended the St. Columbkille Catholic Church. She was involved in church activities. She liked to read, play bingo, and loved animals. She loved spending time with her grandchildren.

Survivors include her daughters, Celine M. (Randy) Becking of Bad Axe and Pauline Carter of Marlette; grandchildren, Erica, Melissa, Krista, Charles and Michael Becking and Austin, Nicole, Tressa and Felicity Carter; brothers, Paul (Mary Lou) Lobb of Rapid City, Harvey (Joyce) Lobb of Wyandotte and Ervin (Barb) Lobb of Gibraltar; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her sisters and their husbands, Elsie and Bud Brown, Eileen and Ed Sherman and Edna Martin.

Funeral services were conducted Saturday, November 30, 2002 at 11:00 a.m. at the St. Columbkille Catholic Church, Sheridan Corner with Rev. T. J. Fleming officiating. Internet was in the St. Columbkille Catholic cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Family Discretionary Fund.

RICHARD A. GABLER
Richard A. Gabler, 78, passed away Wednesday, November 27, 2002 at the Marlette Community Hospital Hospice House.
He lived in Lapeer for the past five years and was previously from the Marlette area.

He was born on February 27, 1924 in Detroit, Michigan the son of the late Alfred and Ethel (Harvey) Gabler.

He served his country in the U.S. Navy during WWII.

He married Rhena Botjes on April 12, 1958 in Chatham Ontario, Canada.

He worked for Chrysler Corporation as an administrator until his retirement in 1975.

He is survived by his wife, Rhena; sons, Richard (Cindy) Gabler of Brown City, MI and Robert Gabler of Caro, MI.; a daughter, Patricia (Aaron) VanBuskirk of Sandusky, MI.; and grandchildren, Eric, Brittany, Coty and Chris.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services were conducted Saturday, November 30, 2002 at 1:00 p.m. at the Marsh Funeral Chapel, Marlette with Rev. Kenneth Parker officiating. Cremation followed the service at the Sunset Valley Crematory in Bay City, MI.

Memorials may be given to the Marlette United Hospice or the Marlette First Presbyterian Church.

VERA L. HIRSCH
Vera L. Hirsch, 98, passed away Tuesday, November 26, 2002 at the Marlette Community Hospital.
She lived in Marlette for the past five years and was previously from the Decker, Michigan area.

She was born on July 27, 1904 in Decker, the daughter of the late Arthur and Emily (Vandervoort) Fifield.

She married John Hirsch on March 24, 1926 in Argyle, Michigan. He preceded her in death on June 2, 1997.

She worked at the Decker Post Office for 15 years and also helped on the family farm until her retirement.

She was a life member of the Decker United Methodist Church and the U.M.W. group.

She is survived by her son, Lee (Linda) Hirsch of Decker; daughters, Delia (Walter) Rayl of Snover, MI. and Lula (Lindsay) and Ralph Donaghy of Snover; sisters, Ella Wright of Kentucky, Gertie Saigeon of Marlette and Mabel Snover of Houghton, MI.; six grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, brothers, Ray, George, Alfred and Albert; and sisters, Eva, Marie and Clara.

Funeral services were conducted Friday, November 29, 2002 at 11:00 a.m. at the Marsh Funeral Chapel, Marlette with Rev. Fred McDowell officiating. Interment was in the Mooretown cemetery, Snover.

Casketbearers were Jarrett Gordon, Garrett Gordon, Tim Rayl, Jerry Rayl, Brian Hirsch and Mark Draher.

Memorials may be given to the Hannah Wolfe Retirement Home or a donation of choice.

RAFAELA CONTRERAS
Rafaela Contreras, 75, passed away Friday, September 13, 2002 at the Lapeer Regional Hospital in Lapeer, Michigan.
She resided in Clifford for 10 years and was previously from Silverwood and Imlay City.

She was born on October 24, 1926 in Austin, Texas, the daughter of the late Juan and Chapa (Lacadia) Grando.

She married Leon Contreras on July 8, 1943 in San Antonio, TX. He preceded her in death on April 24, 1989.

She is survived by four sons, Martin (Ann) Contreras of Clifford, Robert Contreras of Lapeer, Raymond Contreras of Sandusky and Leon (Barbara) Contreras of Pontiac, MI.; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and one sister.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; four brothers; one sister; and one son, Guadalupe.

Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, September 17, 2002 at 11:00 a.m. at the Marsh Funeral Chapel in Marlette with Fr. Richard Bokinskie of the St. Elizabeth Catholic Church officiating. Interment was in the West Burlington cemetery in Silverwood.

Memorials may be given to the donation of choice.

KAYLA A. HURD
Kayla A. Hurd, 19, of Utica, Michigan, formerly of the Marlette area, passed away Thursday, September 19, 2002 at St. Joseph Mercy West Hospital in Clinton Township.
She was born on January 14, 1983 in Warren, Michigan.

She worked at Chuck E. Cheese's as a hostess. She loved walking and rollerblading, and family members said she was fun loving and loved to make people smile. She loved her niece, Katie, and all children.

She is survived by her mother, Susan; siblings, Deidre Renee Wisner, Joey Hurd, Matt Nichols, Andy Nichols, David Hurd and many other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her brother, Joshua and a stepmother, Ellen.

Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, September 24, 2002 at 1:30 p.m. at the Marsh Funeral Chapel, Marlette with Rev. Bill Revoir of the Faith Victory Church, Chesterfield Twp., officiating.

Interment was in Marlette cemetery.

MARSHALL HAZEN
Marshall Hazen, 89, of Marlette, passed away Sunday, September 22, 2002 at Covenant-Harrison in Saginaw, Michigan.
He was born on December 16, 1912 in Sandusky, Michigan the son of the late Albert and Jennie (Swinson) Hazen. He was a lifelong resident and member of the Grace Bible Church, Marlette.

He married C. Elaine Brooks on June 23, 1934 in North Branch, Michigan. She preceded him in death on February 8, 1992.

He was a farmer and a crane operator for Guerdon Industries.

He is survived by three sons, Richard and Margaret Hazen of Argentine, Wayne and Carol Hazen of Marlette and Gary and Candi Hazen of Tawas City; a daughter, Marsha and David Converse of Holly; three brothers, Donald and Thelma Hazen of Marlette, Wilton Hazen of Oregon and Richard and Opal Hazen of Tennessee; three sisters, Orpha and Hugh Thompson of Marlette, Gladys Taft of Marlette and Wilma and Chet Purks of Essexville; 15 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren.

Besides his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Harold; and sisters Beatrice and Irene.

Interment was in the West Burlington cemetery in Silverwood.

A memorial service will be conducted on Friday, September 27, 2002 at 1:00 pm. at the Lamotte Missionary Church in Hemans with Rev. Mark Hazen and Rev. Mike Hollenbeck officiating.

Memorials may be made to the Grace Bible Church, or to the donor's personal choice.

Arrangements by Marsh Funeral Chapel, Marlette.
