STELLA PAULINE SCHLAUD
Stella Pauline Schlaud, 87, of Marlette, passed away Monday, September 16, 2002 at the Marlette Community Hospital.
She was born on July 21, 1915 in North Branch, Michigan the daughter of the late August and Sara (Tallieu) Young.

She married Peter B. Schlaud on June 2, 1937 in North Branch. He preceded her in death on February 19, 1999.

She was an active member of the St. Elizabeth Catholic Church serving as president of the Women's Council Project Blessing. She was also active in the Marlette Community Hospital Auxiliary. She also enjoyed playing Bingo.

She is survived by three sons, Peter B. Schlaud, Jr. of Marlette, Ronald and Carol Schlaud of Brown City and Charles and Sandy Schlaud of Marlette; one daughter, Rita and John Guigar of Bad Axe; 11 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and one foster granddaughter.

Visitation will be at the Marsh Funeral Chapel, Marlette on Wednesday, from 1:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and on Thursday at the St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, Marlette from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m.

A Parish Wake Service will be conducted on Wednesday at 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, September 19, 2002 at 11:00 a.m. at the St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, Marlette with Rev. Fr. Richard Bokinskie officiating. Interment will be in St. Peter & Paul cemetery in North Branch.

Memorials may be made to the St. Elizabeth Catholic Church or United Hospice. Arrangements by Marsh Funeral Chapel, Marlette.

VELMA MYHRE
Velma Myhre, 102, passed away Monday, September 16, 2002 at M & M Foster Care in Marlette.
She was a life long resident of Marlette and spent her winters in New Smyrna Beach, FL.

She was born on April 29, 1900 in Marlette, daughter to the late Charles and Minnie (Clark) Dennis.

She married Magnus C. Myhre on September 8 1928 in Royal Oak, Michigan. He preceded her in death on August 15, 1976.

She was a member of the Cornado Methodist Church in New Smyrna Beach. She worked for Detroit Edison and was a homemaker.

She is survived by two foster daughters, Wvonne Tempelton of Canadian Lake, MI. and Carol Ewald of Fort Lauderdale, FL; three nephews, Gurden Dennis of Prudenville, MI., Dick (Sarah) Dennis of Troy, MI. and William C. (Gela) Dennis of Palm City. FL; three nieces, Pat (Wendell) Donley of Marlette, Margaret Gies of Pittsburgh, PA. and Jean Rising of Santa Rosa, CA.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers, Clark, Cecil, Harry and Arthur Dennis; and a sister, Elva Burt.

Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, September 19, 2002 at 1:00 p.m. at the Marsh Funeral Chapel, Marlette with Pastor Daniel Bowman of the Marlette United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will be in Marlette cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Marlette United Methodist Church.

Visitation will be conducted at the Marsh Funeral Chapel in Marlette on Wednesday from 1:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and Thursday from 12 noon until the time of service.

AGNES CLOTHIER
Agnes Clothier, 80, of Clifford, Michigan passed away September 9, 2002.
She was born November 30, 1921 in Sullivan, IN, daughter to the late John and Claudine (Pierson) Neilson.

She was a 1933 graduate of Bendle High School in Flint, Michigan.

She married E. Jack Clothier October 12, 1940 in Davison, Michigan. He passed away March 24, 1994.

She is survived by two sons: John ( Bernadean) Clothier of Flint, MI, James Clothier of Clifford, Michigan; three daughters; Gaye (Thomas) Butterfield of Lapeer, Michigan, Jeanne (Lee) Jerore of Millington, Michigan, Cheri (Edward) Lynch of Pell City, Kentucky; one brother Bill Neilson of Burton, Michigan fourteen grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and brother John Neilson.

Cremation has taken place at the Sunset Valley Crematory in Bay City, Michigan.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, September 12, 2002 at 11:00 am, at the Marsh Funeral Chapel in Marlette, MI.

Memorials may be given to the Clifford United Methodist Church or Heartland Hospice, Bay City, MI.

Visitation with the family will be held on Thursday at 9:30 am until the time of memorial service at the Marsh Funeral Chapel in Marlette.

LELAND A. THORNTON
Leland A. Thornton, 83, of Davison, formerly of Marlette, passed away Monday, September 2, 2002 at Genesys Health Park.
He was born in Highland Park, MI. on July 9, 1919, the son of Lewis and Annabelle (Dundas) Thornton. He will be remembered for his relaxed humor, personality, generosity, and devotion to family, friends and neighbors.

He served in the U.S. Army during WWII at Port Angeles, Washington and in the U. S. Army of Occupation in Okinawa, Japan. He was employed by the Industrial Mutual Association of Flint as a groundskeeper/maintenance man at the Brookwood Golf Course and Flint IMA Sports Arena.

He is survived by a son, Mark Thornton of Davison; two daughters, Barbara (Richard) Parker of Clarkston and Suzanne (Kenneth) Spicer of Davison; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Catherine Harrar in 1993; a daughter, Margaret Joan (P. J.) Kollar in 1986; and two brothers, Rebert and Lewis Thornton.

Cremation has taken place. A private burial ceremony will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the Davison Care & Share and may be mailed to The Davison Index, P. O. Box 100, 220 N. Main Street, Davison, MI., 48423-0100.

JOE H. WILKINSON
Joe H. Wilkinson, 87, of Marlette, passed away Thursday, September 5, 2002 at the Marlette Community Hospital.
He was a resident of Marlette for many years and was formerly from the Kingston area.

He was born on October 31, 1914 in Kingston, son of the late Walter and Emma (Froede) Wilkinson.

He was a graduate of Caro High School.

He married Della Owen on January 20, 1952 in Grand Haven, Michigan. She preceded him in death on September 11, 1995.

He owned and operated Wilkinson Plumbing and Heating in Marlette for 30 years and also was a part time police officer for the Village of Marlette for eight years.

He is survived by four sons, Kevin and Arlene Wilkinson of Marlette, Michael and Stay Wilkinson of Williamsburg, MI. Gary and Patsy Wilkinson of Rockwell, N.C. and James and Sue Wilkinson of Jensen Beach, FL; five daughters, Sue and William Bjuerke of LaMargue, TX., Sandy Willis of Kalkaska, MI., Cindy Wilkinson of Marlette, Patricia and Robert Pyllka of Eveleth, MN. and Colleen and George Trask of Anderson, S.C.; one step daughter, Beverly and Manuel Navarro of Marlette; one brother, Alfred and Barbara Wilkinson of Commerce, MI.; 37 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; sons, Joey and Chuck Wilkinson; and brothers, Gerald and Carlyle Wilkinson.

Funeral services were conducted Saturday, September 7, 2002 at 11:00 a.m. at the Marsh Funeral Chapel, Marlette with Rev. Kenneth Parker of the Marlette First Presbyterian Church officiating. Interment was in Mooretown cemetery in Snover, Michigan.

Memorials may be given to the Marlette First Presbyterian Church or United Hospice Service.

KARL H. ALMAS
Karl H. Almas, 90, of Marlette, passed away Thursday, August 29, 2002 at his home in Marlette. He lived in the Marlette area for 50 years.
He was born on June 29, 1912 in Clifford, Michigan, son to the late Herman and Edna (Dutcher) Almas.

He married Waity Lick on December 15, 1934 in North Branch, Michigan.

He was a member of the Marlette First Presbyterian Church, the Saginaw Shriners and the Marlette Masons.

He is survived by his wife, Waity; one son, John and Joanna Almas of Cordova, ILL; three daughters, Karla and Steve Gutoske of Marlette, Margie Almas of Lapeer, MI. and Terrie and Lloyd Chappel of Marlette; eight grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and one sister.

He was preceded in death by his parents; several brothers and one sister.

Cremation has taken place at the Sunset Valley Crematory in Bay City, Michigan.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Memorials may be given go the Marlette First Presbyterian Church.

GERTRUDE E. RILEY
Gertrude E. Riley, 98, of Traverse City, formerly of Marlette and Mayville, passed away Monday, August 26, 2002 at the Marlette Community Hospital.
Funeral services were conducted Thursday, August 29, 2002 at 1:00 p.m. at the Juniata Baptist Church with Dr. Richard Flanders officiating. Interment took place at the Marlette cemetery.

She loved her family, spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The Detroit Tiger ballgames were also of special interest to her. She and her husband attended Dayton Center Church for many years and were very involved in the Christian work there.

She was born on February 16, 1904 in Marlette to Hugh and Elva (Race) Johnson of Marlette.

She married Clifton Riley on August 6, 1924 in Brown City. She and Clifton owned Riley's Creamery in Marlette from 1928-1935; the Riley's Dairy Bar and Creamery in Mayville for many years then moved to Standish where they owned the Dairy Delight.

She is survived by two sons, Richard (Donna) Riley of Mayville and Paul (Kathleen) Riley of Traverse City; 14 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; and 18 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clifton in 1977; four sisters; two brothers and one great-grandson.

Memorials may be made to Juniata Baptist Church or W.M.P.C. radio station in Lapeer.
