MULDER - Rikus Mulder, age 90, passed away on September 13, 2017 at Clark Home. Rikus was preceded in death by his parents, Rikus Mulder and Mary (nee Boven); the love of his life, Eleanor (nee Nederveld); three of he and Eleanor's children - Rosemary, Roxanne & Rick; siblings, Ann, Tony, Grace, Charles, Jeanette, Ethel (Babe), George, Ruth, and John. He is survived by his daughter, Robin Savara, son Randy Mulder, daughter-in-law, Pamela Mulder, special family friend, Denise Gill. Grandchildren, Ryan, Hannah, Ragan, Jillian, Clayton, and Owen. Great grandchildren, Lukas, Jackson, Coleman, Mason, and Eleanor Grace. Sisters, Lois (Ken), Eunice (Clarence) and sister-in-law, Esther. In June of 1927, Rikus was born on the family farm near Prosper, MI. He was known to many of his nieces and nephews as Uncle June. Junior to some folks and Rick to many. Growing up on the farm provided him with a wealth of experiences that many of today's children do not benefit from. Of course, there was the work of being on a family farm and a member of a large family. There was also the fun of exploring the woods and gathering fish, fowl, and fur. Rikus met Eleanor in Cutlerville, MI. They were married in 1949 and moved to Byron Center, MI. Their marriage spanned nearly sixty years. Saturday entertainment was often an auction. He taught children to appreciate camping, fishing, and hunting and they took the kids and grandkids camping frequently. They continued to do this until shortly before Eleanor's passing. Rikus spent most of his working years traveling throughout West Michigan repairing appliances, lawn equipment and the like. For a majority of that time he worked for the Montgomery Ward Company. After Rikus retired from Wards, they built their dream home in Allegan County, MI and Gun Lake Community became their new home church. Rikus and Eleanor spent eighteen winters in Mission, TX. They took an extended driving trip from MI to Alaska, down the west coast and back to Michigan. It was quite an adventure. They went on a Western European tour that they truly enjoyed and talked of often. In later years, Rikus spent his free time building birdhouses, yard benches, chests, canes flowers and other wood crafts. Most of these works were branded with RJM and he donated many hundreds of his handmade items to local charities and shared them with family and friends. Services will be held on Saturday September 30, 2017 at First Reformed Church of Byron Center, 2456 84th St SW, Byron Center, MI 49315. Visitation beginning at 10:00 AM and the Service at 11:00 AM. After the luncheon, interment will take place at Winchester Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Emmanuel Hospice 2161 Leonard NW, Grand Rapids MI 49504.
