Fred Amos Scribner, Jr. “Fritz”, age 81, of Kentwood, entered into the arms of Jesus on Sunday, February 11, 2018. Fritz enjoyed spending time with his family, fishing, and repairing things. Preceding him in death are his brothers, Louis, Robert; sister, Patty; and daughter-in-law, Kathi Scribner. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Lois, his children, David Scribner, Fred Scribner III, Joseph Scribner, Deb Sala, Pam Wierda, Rob (Melanie) Scribner, Renee (Tommy) Diaz, Russel (Kim) DeRoos, Rick (Colleen) DeRoos, 25 grandchildren; many beloved great and great-great grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Harold (Elaine) Scribner, Gordon (Vickie) Scribner, Scharlene Southwick, Don (Janice) Scribner, Joann Scribner; many nieces and nephews. The family will greet visitors on Thursday from 6 – 8 pm at Stroo Funeral Home where the service will be held 11 am Friday, February 16. Interment will be in Blain Cemetery.

C. Lucille Laven, age 97, of Caledonia, went to be with her Lord on Monday, February 12, 2018. Preceding her in death are her husband, Roger; great granddaughter, Alexandria; parents, William and Jennie Weaver; brothers, Jim, Harold, Ted, and Bob. Lucille will be lovingly remembered by her daughter, Lila (Russ) Rogers; her grandchildren, Karen Rogers, John (April) Rogers; great grandchildren, Jade Krulac, Tessa Rogers, Weston Rogers, Juddson Rogers; sisters, Ruth VanSledright, Lorna (Bill) Snodgrass; and sister-in-law, Clara Weaver. Interment will be in PIne Hill Cemetery. A memorial service for Lucille will be held at a later date.

Barbara Jane Grit (Dommisse), of Byron Center, born March 30, 1935 in Sheboygan, WI, was called to her heavenly home on Wednesday, February 14, 2018. Barbara taught school for 27 years and ran a catering service which paid for the cost of a new gym at Celeryville Christian School in Ohio. She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Edith Dommisse. She will be deeply missed by her husband of 62 years, Jim; children, Michelle Grit, Jonathan Scott (Renae) Grit, Jamie (Rod) Alderink; grandchildren, Rachael (Stephen) Lowicz, Julia Grit, Elijah Grit, Allison (Tyler) Kruis, Mattie Alderink; and brother, James (Arlene) Dommisse. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Contributions in memory of Barbara may be made to the South Christian High School Building Fund.

Robert L. "Bob" Hohenstein, age 85, of Wyoming, went home to be with his Lord on Thursday, February 15, 2018. He proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Bob was an avid bowler, enjoyed shuffleboard, horseshoes and socializing with friends. He was preceded in death by his great granddaughter, Addyson Jewel Streur; parents and two sisters. Bob will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 65 years, Barbara; his children, Linda (Tim) Laven, Barry (Lisa) Hohenstein; grandchildren, Bryan (Kelly) Laven, Jodi (Jeff) Streur, Dustin (Jess) Hohenstein, Madalyn (Caleb) Stauffer; great grandchildren, Braylon, Traeten, Brady, Kaden, Remmington, Cameron, Christopher, Connor; and sister, Anna Schneider. Visitation will be held on Monday, February 19, from 10 - 10:45 am at Woodward Baptist Church, 2160 76th St. SW, where a service of celebration will begin at 11 am, Pastor Lance Laker will officiate. Memorial contributions may be given to the Korean War Veterans or Woodward Baptist Church.

Pulling and praying from loved ones for Kim, but God had something different in mind. Traveling life's road, with this heavy load, someone like her, we'll never find. Kimberly Ann Cash, age 51, of Grand Rapids, passed away on Thursday, February 15, 2018. She will be deeply missed by her husband of 14 years, James; children, Wesley (Alisha) Harmon, her mother, Shirley Rowland, sisters, Michele (Tom) Crawford, and Nicole Reid. Her father, Doug Hudson, preceded her in death. The family will greet visitors on Friday, February 23, from 3:30 - 4:50 pm at Good News Baptist Church, 6830 Eastern Ave. SE, where the funeral service will begin at 5 pm. Rev. Brian Cederquist will officiate. In lieu of flowers, you may make a donation to Mackenzie's Animal Sanctuary or Vicky's Pet Connection, in Kim's name.

Jean Marie Hulst, age 73, of Wyoming, went home to be with her Lord on Monday, February 19, 2018. Jean was active in ministry and touched the hearts of so many children, church and community. She was also an active member of Grand A's Model A Club. Jean will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 53 years, Clarence; children, Brian (Cyndi) Hulst, Scott (Angela) Hulst, Robert Hulst; grandsons, Ryan Hulst, Gavin Valadez. The family will greet visitors on Saturday, February 24, from 10 - 11 am at South United Methodist Church, 4500 S. Division Ave., where the service will begin at 11 am, with Pastor Mack Strange officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Jean's memory may be made to South United Methodist Church.

VERDUIN, DONALD C.
DUTTON, MI
Having sung with three quartets, Donald C. Verduin now sings with the heavenly choir. Don passed away peacefully in his home on Tuesday, August 29, 2017, at the age of 94. He was a farmer in Dutton for many years, a partner with Wayland Livestock, served as firefighter with the Dutton Fire Department for 25 years, and served many terms as an elder in his church. He was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Alice; an infant daughter, Judy; grandson, Timothy Ter Haar; and a son-in-law, Carl Kuipers. Don will be lovingly remembered by his children, Emilie Kuipers, Vern and Lynn Verduin, Cheryl and Mark Ter Haar, Marilyn and Jerry Jonker, Jon and Jane Verduin, Eileen and Joel Van Oyen; 27 grandchildren, 54 great grandchildren; sister, Norma and Howard DeJong; sister-in-law, Janet and Mel Van Zanten; and brother-in-law, Fred Kuiper. Visitation will be held Friday, September 1, from 2 - 5 pm at Dutton United Reformed Church, 6950 Hanna Lake SE, where the funeral service will begin at 5 pm. Rev. Brian Najapfour and Rev. Larry Johnson will officiate. A committal service will follow at Dutton Cemetery, with Rev. Lance Davids officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Zion Christian School Music Program.

Doris Sheler, age 90, of Kentwood, went to be with her Lord on Tuesday, August 29, 2017. Doris was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gilbert; son Keith; son-in-law, John Hudson; parents, Arlo M. and Anna Monschein; three sisters and one brother, and their spouses. Doris will be lovingly remembered by her children, Kirk (Barb) Sheler, Penny Hudson, Theodore "Ted" Sheler, Sally (Timothy) Becker; 13 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. The family will greet visitors on Saturday, September 2, from 10 - 11 am at Stroo Funeral Home, where the service will begin at 11 am. Interment will be in Grandville Cemetery.
