Absent from the body and present with the Lord, Marguerite J. DeHaven (Lazarski), aged 97, entered her heavenly home on Sunday, December 17, 2017. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Ary, Gerald, Anton, and Adrian Bierens. She will be lovingly remembered by her daughters, Virginia Sredersas (Lazarski), Janice LaFave (Lazarski); grandsons, Brian (Shauna) LaFave, Brad (Janet) LaFave, Jeff LaFave; foster grandson, Jay (Elda) Boggs; great grandchildren, Adam, Arik, Chelsea, Austin; sister, Cora Alkema; sister-in-law, Doris Bierens; and many nieces and nephews. The family wishes to thank the staff and caregivers from Grace Hospice for the wonderful care they provided. The family will greet visitors on Wednesday, December 20, from 1 - 3 pm at Stroo Funeral Home, with the funeral service following at 3:00 pm, Rev. George Kroeze, officiating. Interment in Greenwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Marguerite may be made to Grace Hospice.

Willis "Bill" Kooiker, aged 89, of Caledonia, went to be with his Lord on Sunday, December 17, 2017. Bill retired from Pine Rest after 42 years of service. He served in the U.S. Army from 1951 until 1953. His brothers, Herman and Jacob; and brothers-in-law, Harvard Rozeboom, Don DeBoer, Lawrence Lundberg, preceded him in death. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 62 years, Beverly; four daughters, Carol (Jim) Cook, Lynn Kooiker, Deborah (Kim) Smith, Lisa Wentworth; grandchildren, Andrea McFarland, Derek VandenBroek, Nissa Smith, Alexis (Adam) Dunigan, Lesley (Kim) Girao, Travis Sutter, Garrett Smith, Theodor Smith, Jennifer (Josh) Kok, Sarah (Jake) Reeder, David (Tricia Brown) Wentworth; 16 great grandchildren; sisters, Clara Rozeboom, Cynthia Lundberg, Louisa DeBoer; brother, John (Sherry) Kooiker; sister-in-law, Gert Kooiker; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be held 11:00 am Saturday, December 23, at Brookside Christian Reformed Church, 3600 Kalamazoo Ave., SE; with Rev. Paul DeVries officiating. Interment in Fort Custer National Cemetery. Contributions in memory of Willis may be made to Spectrum Health Hospice. The family will greet visitors on Friday from 5 - 8 pm at Stroo Funeral Home and on Saturday from 10 - 11 am at the church.

John (Jack) Jousma, age 100, of Alaska, MI, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, December 17, 2017, and went to be with his Lord. Born in the village of Alaska, MI in 1917, Jack completed his education while in the 7th grade so he could work on the family farm for his father, who was in ill health. With a strong work ethic, Jack quickly became a "jack of all trades", and spent his life willingly helping his family and devoting his time to his church in any way he could. He spent most of his life in the dairy industry, driving truck as a milk hauler for many years before finishing his career as a lab tech. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of nearly 80 years, Dorothy; three sons, Frederick Jousma, John Jousma (friend, Sharon Pullen), Donald (Anne) Jousma; seven grandchildren; many great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; sister, Adriann (Jim) Cramton; many nieces and nephews. According to Jack's wishes, cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held Friday, December 29, from 10 - 11 am at Alaska Community of Christ Church, where a memorial service will begin at 11 am, with Elder Robert Loesch and Elder Douglas Gregory officiating. A reception will follow at the church. Interment will take place at a later date in Alaska Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Alaska Community of Christ, 8147 68th St. SE, Alto, MI 49302.

Dale Wayne Kompik II

Dale Wayne Kompik II, 31, of Grand Rapids, Michigan died December 19, 2017 after complications caused by pneumonia. His life was characterized by generosity, a passion for caring for others, and seeking after God. He could often be found talking about life and the Bible and theology at coffee shops around town, turning strangers into friends. He also loved being in the outdoors, camping and kayaking.
He was born May 8, 1986 in Lexington, KY, the son of Dale and Barbara (Sothman) Kompik. He graduated from Ludington High School in 2004 and then from Moody Bible Institute, where he studied Biblical Studies and graduated in 2014. He has called Pentwater, Ludington, Spokane, and Grand Rapids home.
Dale is survived by his parents, Dale and Barbara of Pentwater, MI; his sister and brother-in-law, Tasha and Will Oltman of Grand Rapids, MI; and sister Natalie Kompik of Grand Rapids, MI. He is also survived by both of his grandmothers, Zora Kompik of Pentwater, MI, and Jean Sothman of Clarinda, IA, as well as several aunts, uncles, and cousins and many friends.
The memorial service celebrating his life will be held on Saturday, December 23 at 2pm at The Point Church (3449 76th St. SE, Caledonia, MI 49316). In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider donations to The Acton Institute where there will be a chair in their auditorium in memory of Dale, or to Bethany Christian Services to serve children in need of adoption and refugees in the community. Gayle Lynn Stora-Mabin, age 54, of Ada, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 20, 2017 after a long, hard struggle with brain cancer. Gayle attended Wayland High School and Grand Rapids Community College. She worked as Accounts Payable Supervisor at Behler Young Co. for many years before joining the U.S. Postal Service in 1998. Through hard work she went from automation clerk to Postmaster of the City of Ada by 2008. She will be lovingly remembered by her husband, Timothy; her children, Chaunte Stora, Jesse, and Mercedes Gonzales; ten grandchildren; parents, Richard Stora and Gayle Clement; brothers, Richard II (Chris) Stora, Mark (Missy) Stora; sister, Kim (Greg) Walczewski; parents-in-law, Clarence and Betty Mabin; many nieces and nephews. A visitation for the Mabin family will be held from 11 am - 12 pm on Saturday, December 23, followed by a memorial service at 12 noon at Stroo Funeral Home. A visitation for the Stora family will be held from 2 pm - 3 pm on Saturday, December 23, followed by a memorial service at 3 pm at Stroo Funeral Home.

James E. Dierich, age 88, of Grand Rapids, formerly of Birch Run, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 21, 2017. Jim worked as a baker at Rainbo Bread Company in Saginaw for 35 years and at Zehnders in Frankenmuth for 8 years. While working at Zehnders, he achieved his Master Baker designation, an accomplishment that made him very proud. He enjoyed bowling, fishing, gardening, and his dogs. Jim was preceded in death by his first wife, Marie, his second wife, Janice, as well as his long time friend, Mae Hurst. He will be dearly missed by his children, Janice (Bud) Wurdock, Susan DeNolf, Carol (Jack) Wroblewski, Laura (Dennis) Short; his grandchildren, James, Jacklyn, Jon, Ben (Ali) Wroblewski; Clark (Tara) Wurdock, Stephanie (Eric) Lindsey; numerous step grandchildren; along with his beloved beagles, Bud and Lady. Jim's family expresses sincere thanks to Emmanuel Hospice for the loving care they provided for this past year. Visitation with the family will be held on Wednesday, December 27, from 2 - 5 pm at Stroo Funeral Home, where the funeral service will begin at 5 pm. A graveside service will be held on Thursday, December 28, at Forest Lawn Cemetery, Saginaw. Memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society of Michigan.

Georgie Cowan

Georgie Cowan, age 91, of Byron Center, passed away December 21, 2017 following a long illness. Georgie grew up in Detroit, MI. She earned a BS in home economics from Western College for Women. After marrying, Georgie was employed at the Michigan Consolidated Gas Company as a home economist and taught the "Good Cooking" TV show. As she raised her family she found time to be actively involved at her children’s school and her church. Her leisure activities included being an avid reader, an accomplished seamstress and skilled knitter. She was a world traveler having visited the U.K., Italy, Greece, the Caribbean, South America, Singapore, Malaysia and Mexico. Georgie will be remembered for her wonderful plates of Christmas cookies that she lovingly baked for family, friends and neighbors every season for more than 50 years. Georgie was blessed to have been married 61 years and was preceded in death by her husband, Richard. She is survived by her children, Wendy Cowan and Heather and Tom Schuster. Memorials may be made to: Good Shepherd Presbyterian Church, Attn: Jim Miller, Treasurer, 1228 Mesa Junction Dr. SW, Byron Center, MI 49315. A private family gathering will be held at a later time.

Janet Mae (Mollo) Mueller, age 84, passed away unexpectedly at her home on Thursday, December 21, 2017. Janet was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother and enjoyed spending time with her family. She will be deeply missed by her husband of 64 years, Tad; her children, Michael (Nancy) Mueller, Lori (Garry) Kadwell, Mark Mueller; grandchildren, Jennifer Mueller and fiance, Nick Boelens, Matthew Mueller, Viktoria (Robert) Lissner; great grandchildren, Jade and Brennley; sister, Marilyn McGovern; brother, James (Linda) Mollo; and her nieces and nephews. Her sister, Pat Meyer, preceded her in death. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 26, from 2 - 4 and 6 - 8 pm at Stroo Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held 11 am Wednesday, December 27, at Stroo Funeral Home, with Rev. John Diener officiating. interment in Rest Lawn Memorial Park.
