Michael Alan Lanting, age 46, of Lakeview, MI passed away on Monday, May 15, 2017. He was preceded in death by his father, Larry. Mike was a loving father, son, brother and uncle and will be deeply missed by his children, Richard (Marchelle) Lanting, Zachary, Kaitlyn, Melodie Lanting; his mother, Susan Lanting; sister, Amy Lanting-Rivera; niece, Syrianna Rivera; and many aunts, uncles and cousins. The family will greet visitors on Friday, May 19, from 5-8 pm and Saturday, May 20, prior to the funeral from 10 - 10:45 am at Stroo Funeral Home, where the funeral will begin at 11 am. Interment will be in Winchester Cemetery.

Eleanor Bernice (Chedister) Speck, age 88, of Grand Rapids, entered her heavenly home on Friday, January 20, 2017. Her husband, Nelson D. Speck; a son, Aaron; and a sister, Gloria Riley, preceded her in death. She will be lovingly remembered by her sons, Nelson and Jackie Speck, Tim and Sue Speck; her grandchildren, Deborah Jenson, Brian, James (Erika), Kevin (Brittney), Kyle (Bre), and Michael Speck; many great-grandchildren, nephews and nieces. Visitation will be held from 1 - 2 pm Saturday, January 28, at Stroo Funeral Chapel, where the memorial service will begin at 2 pm, Rev. Tom Koon officiating. Interment will be in Pine Hill Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Spectrum Hospice.

On Sunday, May 7, 2017, Ben went to be with the Lord. He will be deeply missed by so many. He was a loving father, husband, brother, son, and grandfather. Ben is survived by his wife, Martha "Marti"; sons, Michael and Jason; daughter, Tamara; granddaughters, Ashley and Erika; five great-grandchildren; brother, Lee (Maryellen); sisters, Claudene and Judy (Tracy). The funeral service will be held 1 pm Thursday, May 11, at Stroo Funeral Home, 1095 68th St. SE, with Chaplain Chad Roedema officiating. Interment in Winchester Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Paws with a Cause. The family will greet visitors on Wednesday from 5 - 8 pm and Thursday one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Louis W. Lapekes, age 88, of Wyoming, MI, passed away on Sunday, March 19, 2017, after a few years of illness. Louis was an avid fisherman, hunter, and enjoyed working on cars. He retired from McInerney Spring & Wire after many years of service. He was preceded in death by his wife, Nina; grandson, Jason; brothers, Freddy, Roman, Ed, Chuck, Steve, Harry; and sister, Lillian Telfor. He will be lovingly remembered by his sons, Dennis (Dee) Lapekes, and their sons, Mark, and Denny (Cindy) and their children, Dennis (Kimberly), Darrin VanTuinen, Shania Lapekes; Terry (Carol) Lapekes, and their sons, Chad and David, and Chad's children, Hunter and Taylor; four great-great grandchildren; brothers and sister, Howard (Dorothy) Lapekes, Larry (Cindy) Lapekes, Lorraine Ostrander; sisters-in-law, Martha Lapekes and Marge Lapekes. The family will greet visitors on Tuesday, March 21, from 4 - 7 pm at Stroo Funeral Home, 1095 68th St. SE, and Wednesday, March 22, prior to the funeral from 10 - 11 am, where the funeral will begin at 11 am. Entombment will be in Resurrection Cemetery.

On Thursday, January 12, 2017, Nancy Marie Velting, age 66, of Caledonia, was welcomed into the arms of Jesus following a lengthy battle with cancer and complications of chemotherapy. Nancy was preceded in death by her son, Robert "Bobby" Velting; her parents, Floyd and Nancy Wiersma; sister, Marlene Wiersma; and brother, Roger Wiersma. She will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 29 years, Bob Velting; children, Russell Velting, Tim (Melody) Robach, Jim (Stacey) Velting, Thomas Robach, Tammy (Darreyl) Porter; grandchildren, Tyler, Brittney, Brooke, Haley, Darian, Ally, Courtney, Jenna, Caylon, Madison; great grandson, Levi; brothers and sister, Jim (Rhoda) Wiersma, Bob (Sherrie) Wiersma, Barb Winn; many nieces and nephews; and a close friend, Karen Huyser. Nancy loved spending time with her family, enjoyed camping, and had a special love for her dog, Molly. The funeral service will be held 11 am Monday, January 16, at Stroo Funeral Home. Interment will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. Contributions in memory of Nancy may be made to the Lacks Cancer Center. The family will greet relatives and friends on Sunday from 2 - 4 and 6 - 8 pm at the funeral home.

Bernice "Ruth" Theule, age 88, of St. Johns, MI, formerly of Cutlerville, passed away on Thursday, June 1, 2017. Her husband, Jake Theule, and infant son, Theodore William Theule, preceded her in death. Ruth will be lovingly remembered by her children, David (Gwen) Theule, Douglas (Sharon) Theule, Gary (Julie) Theule, Lisa (Peter) VandenBerg; seven grandchildren; five great grandchildren, and one more on the way; brother, Tony (Ann) Maring, Bakersfield, CA; and several nieces and nephews. The family will greet visitors on Friday, June 2, from 6 - 8 pm at Stroo Funeral Home. The funeral service will take place at Covenant Christian Reformed Church, 7171 Willard Ave. SE, on Saturday, June 3, at 1 PM. Rev. Cal VanderMeyden will officiate. Interment in Rest Lawn Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to Operation Smile.

Beatrice JoAnne Gauger passed away peacefully on Monday, May 8, 2017. She celebrated her 90th birthday the previous month. Her husband, Charles Gauger, and her children were with her at home when she passed. Bea was born in Hastings, Minnesota on April 3, 1927. She graduated from Hastings High School and served in the cadet nursing corp during WWII. She graduated from Bethesda Nursing School in St. Paul Minnesota in 1947 as a registered nurse. Bea was an active volunteer for the Meals on Wheels program for many years. She served on the flower committee at Trinity Lutheran Church. In retirement, she and Chuck traveled frequently. They visited all 50 states and several European countries. Bea is survived by her husband of 67 years, Charles Gauger; her sons, Steve (Priscilla) and Doug Gauger (Mary); and her daughter, Barb Gauger; her grandchildren, Bryan Gauger and Lauren (Gauger) Bascom; four great grandchildren, and brother Rod (Joann) Olson. The Gauger family is grateful for the exceptional care received from the staff of Spectrum Health Hospice. A service to honor the faith and life of Bea Gauger will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, May 15, 2017 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 2700 Fulton St. East, with Pastor Bob Linstrom officiating. Interment in Woodlawn Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association. The family will greet visitors from 10-10:45 am prior to the service at the church.

The Lord called Evelyn Mildred DeVries, age 85, of Cutlerville, home to be with Him on Monday, February 27, 2017. She was preceded to glory by her son, George DeVries III; and two brothers, Johnny and Al Tiemeyer. Evelyn will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 60 years, George DeVries; her children, Debra and Dave Groendyk, Bert and Jann DeVries; daughter-in-law, Sandra Adkins; six grandchildren; two great grandchildren; sisters, Marion and Cliff Nederveld, Cindy and Al VandeSteeg; sister-in-law, Wilma Tiemeyer; and her nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be held 11 am, Monday, March 6, at LaGrave Avenue Christian Reformed Church; 107 LaGrave Ave. SE; with Rev. Ruth Boven and Rev. Lee Smits officiating. Interment in Winchester Cemetery. The family will greet relatives and friends on Sunday from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at Stroo Funeral Home.
