Lester "Bill" Miller, age 85, of Grand Rapids, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, April 25, 2017. Bill attended Baptist Bible College, and served faithfully at Calvary Baptist Church for 48 years. He enjoyed the ministry of Dr. Jim Samra for the past 13 years at Calvary Church. He was a truck driver for Keebler Biscuit Company for 48 years. His grandson, Trent Wellington, and brother, David, preceded him in death. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 66 years, Mary; his children, Paul (Deby) Miller, Deborah (Michael) Cypher, Kathryn Miller, Mark (Judy) Miller, John (Kelle) Miller; eight grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; and brother, Thomas (Judy) Miller. The family will greet visitors on Sunday from 4 - 7 pm at Stroo Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held 1:00 pm Monday, May 1, at Calvary Church, 707 East Beltline SE, with Pastor Bruce Huseby officiating. Interment will be in Garfield Park Cemetery.

Donald J. Boelema

Service: 11 am Monday, February 20, at Stroo Funeral Home
Donald J. Boelema, age 67, of Cutlerville, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 16, 2017. Don honorably served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He went on to work at Steelcase where he was a dedicated employee until retirement. He also was an avid Model Railroad Train collector. His parents, Theodore and Grace Boelema, preceded him in death. Surviving are his children, Sara Taylor, and Frank (Sara) Boelema; one granddaughter; sister, Sharon VanTimmeren; brothers, Gerald (Sally) Boelema, Robert (June) Boelema; nieces and nephews. The family will greet visitors on Sunday, February 19, from 3 - 6 pm at Stroo Funeral Home, where the service will be held Monday, February 20 at 11 am, with Rev. Evan Heerema officiating.

Louise A. Raab, of Byron Center, went to her heavenly home on Friday, April 28, 2017. Louise was a long time member of Grace Lutheran Church. She will be lovingly remembered by her children, Lee Curtis (Sue) Raab, Lorie (Scott) Christensen; grandchildren, Rebecca (Marc) Thompson, Chris Raab, Jody Raab; her great grandchildren, Paiton, Blake Thompson; special friend, Lorraine Raab; and her companions, Bentley and Bella. Private family services will be held. Memorial contributions may be made to Grace Lutheran Church.

Cettina Maria LaFranca, age 63, of Byron Center, was called to her heavenly home on Wednesday, February 1, 2017. She was preceded in death by her parents, Giuseppe and Antonina Ales. Cettina devoted her heart and soul to being a loving mother and grandmother. She enjoyed taking short trips and baking with her close friends. She will be dearly missed by her husband, Franco LaFranca; sons, Maurizio (Dawn) LaFranca and Roberto (Courtney) LaFranca; grandchildren, Analia, Robbie, Isabella, Joey, and Elena. The family will greet visitors at Stroo Funeral Home on Monday, February 6, from 11:00 am to 12:30 pm, at which time a procession will depart for St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church, 1253 52nd St. SE, where the Funeral Mass will begin at 1 pm, Fr. Julian Reginato presiding. Private interment will take place at Resurrection Cemetery.

Carol J. (Kellogg) Farrington, age 85, of Cutlerville, went to her heavenly home on Tuesday, February 14, 2017. Carol loved her cats and enjoyed caring for them. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Harry Farrington and Edward Denkema; a daughter, Patricia Monroe; and her children's father, Ray G. Bender, Sr. She will be lovingly remembered by her children, Ann (Larry) Brown, Sharon (Carl) Dykstra, Ray (Janet) Bender, Jr., David (Deb) Griep; 13 grandchildren and many great grandchildren. The family wishes to thank the staff of Rehoboth Oaks of Dorr for the wonderful care they provided, and a special thank you to her friend, Holly Stevens. A private family service will take place. Shirley DeVrou, age 74, of Northport, MI, formerly of Hudsonville, left her earthly tent to be with her Lord on Saturday, February 11, 2017. She was born in Paragould, AR, the daughter of Jessie Faye Sims. She is survived by her children, Bruce (Stephanie) DeVrou, and Bobbijo (Kirk) DeVries; grandchildren, Carlee DeVrou (fiancé, Keith Rodgers), Tressa DeVrou, Alicia DeVries (fiancé, Matt Pianko), Leigha Nichols, Christjana Nichols (fiancé, Kyle Broetzmann), Brianna (Zach) Scott, Keyonna DeVries, Kirk DeVries II; great grandchildren, Antony, Landen, Faith, Brynnleigh, Kole; brothers, George Covington of MI, Darrel (Nancy) Sims of AR; cousins, whom she considered brothers, Joe (Jan) Wofford of TX, Tom (Faye) Wofford of AR, Butch (Karen) Daniels of AR; two cousins through marriage and whom she considered as best friends & her sisters, Ruth DeVrou and Donna Foster; many nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death are her husband, Richard DeVrou; her mother, Jessie; grandmother, Dora Lee "momma" Covington; mother-in-law, Bobbi DeVrou; father-in-law, Ralph DeVrou, whom she acquired the nickname "Dutch"; brother, Charles Sims; sister-in-law, Greta DeVrou DeVries; brother-in-law, Harvey DeVries; special close aunt, Hattie Rickman, several other aunts and uncles. Shirley worked many years for LESCOA, retiring in 2005 to spend more time with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, all of whom she loved deeply, along with her best friends "Up North". Shirley was a quiet, selfless soul, who put other's needs before her own and was devoted to her family and close friends. A private family interment will take place at Blain Cemetery with Pastor Wayne DeVrou officiating. A celebration of life gathering will take place at 12 noon on Thursday, March 2, at Grandville-Jenison Congregational Church, 3900 Henry St. Grandville, MI. Her family would like to express sincere gratitude to the Leelanau County Sheriff's Department and to the members of the Leelanau Township Fire Department for doing all they possibly could. Gerrit Junior "Jun" Flier, age 79, of Caledonia, entered his heavenly home on Sunday, January 22, 2017. Jun proudly served his country in the Army. He was the owner of Flier's Trenching for over 25 years. He enjoyed the outdoors for work and play by traveling, hunting, fishing, golf and fast pitch softball. He was a loving, active member of Ideal Park Christian Reformed Church for over 40 years. He was preceded in death by a son, Terry; grandson, Brandon; his brothers, Bern, Jay, Allen; and sisters, Geraldine and Genevive. Jun will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Pat, of 38 years; his children, Randy (Judy) Flier, Robin Blanton, Kurt Flier, Bryan Flier, Jennifer (John) Klaassen, Rich (Jennifer) Van Tol; daughter-in-law, Kathi Flier; 17 grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; brother, Richard Flier; and sister, Alma Russo; father-in-law, Gysbert Rozenboom; brothers and sisters-in-law, Lois Bordewyk, Alvin (Jan) Rozenboom, Nadine (Ron) Stuursma, Ray Geelhoed, and Mary Katerberg. The funeral service will be held at 10:30 am Friday, January 27, at Ideal Park Christian Reformed Church, 320 56th St. SW, with Rev. Evan Heerema officiating. Interment in Floral View Cemetery. Stephen T. Sadvari, age 95, of Cutlerville, was called to his heavenly home on Sunday, January 22, 2017. Stephen served in the U.S. Army Air Corp during WWII, and worked for Lear Siegler, retiring after 37 years of service. One of 12 children, all of his siblings have preceded him in death, along with two sisters-in-law. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 57 years, Eleanor; sons, Tom (Kathleen) Reynolds, Richard Sadvari; grandchildren, Julianne (Andrew) Hand, Aaron (Terry) Shoup, Richard Sadvari, Jr.; eight great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Rosemarie (Danny) Gallaspy, James Shockency, Michael Shockency, Steve Shockency, Dan (Debby) Shockency, Linda (Don) Schmucker, Mary (Jack) Kragt; and many nieces and nephews who were all dear to him.
