Hazel C. Lambert, age 90, went to be with her Lord on Thursday, November 12, 2015. She was preceded in death by her husband of 73 years, Scott E. Lambert, on July 9, 2015. Before retiring to Grand Rapids, MI, Hazel and Scott lived in Buena Park, CA, where she worked as a circuit board designer at firms such as Hughes Aircraft and McDonnell Douglas, eventually launching her own circuit board design company. She designed some of the electronics in the radar system of the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Enterprise. Hazel served in her local Baptist church throughout her life, teaching Sunday school and singing in the choir. She will be lovingly remembered by her sons, Ronald L. Lambert and David W. (Cindy) Lambert; her grandchildren, Seth (Maggi) Lambert, Sarah (Steven) Price, Anna Ramsey (Andy) Witkowski, 2nd Lt. Rachel Bethany Ramsey, Faith Christina Lambert, Holly Lambert, Joy (Chris) Baker, Dan Lambert, Lindsey Lambert, and Benjamin Hays; as well as nine great grandchildren. Visitors are welcome to attend a dinner celebrating Hazel's life, including a tribute by Pastor Dennis Long, on Monday, November 16, from 6 - 7 pm, followed by a time of visitation from 7 - 8 pm at Stroo Funeral Home. Interment will be in Winchester Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Disabled American Veterans.

Ruth Irene Mariner, age 92, passed away at Saint Mary’s Hospital Sunday, November 8, 2015. Ruth was preceded in death by her husbands, Robert Edward Widdrington, a casualty of the Battle of the Bulge, and Harold Dudley Mariner; parents, Clover and Earl Pippert; sisters, Jovetta Nelson and Patricia Ward; grandson, Kevin Jahnke; and sons-in-law Edward Bala, Jr. and Frank B. Thomas. A member of the “Greatest Generation, ” Ruth was born in Nora Springs, Iowa July 17, 1923. She married Robert Widdrington after graduating Mason City HS (Iowa). He left to fight in WWII and, after giving birth to a daughter, Ruth traveled to Vancouver, WA to work in the war effort building airplanes. By age 21 she was widowed with two babies ages 18 months and 2 months. After the war she moved back to Iowa where she met and married H Dudley Mariner to whom she was married for nearly 52 years. She had two more children and participated in PTA, served as Girl Scout Leader (in two states), 4-H Leader, teaching bread-making and sewing, and pseudo Little League Coach. Moving from Iowa to Minnesota to Western Michigan as Dudley’s career progressed; Ruth worked at Montgomery Ward and later as the owner/operator of the Pine Lodge Motel in Cutlerville. She moved to Tucson, AZ and later San Jacinto, CA to care for her husband when he became disabled with RA, returning to Grand Rapids after his death to be close to her grandchildren. At age 77 she bought a computer, taught herself to operate it and began emailing friends around the USA. She volunteered hundreds of hours at Saint Mary’s Hospital, working in the gift shop and later delivering mail. She played bridge in multiple clubs and participated in two Red Hats clubs until ill health prevented it. She is survived by a son, Tim E. (Patricia) Mariner of Byron Center; daughters, Barbara I. ( Michael J.) Butrick of Moreno Valley, CA. Sandra K. Bala of Nunica, and Jacqueline R. Thomas of Grand Rapids; grandchildren, Barbara Lynn (David) Weenum, Teresa (Paul) Haarsma, Suzette Bala, Victoria (Darrell) Scott, Robyn (Tony) Van Dorp, Michael (Holly)Newkirk, Patrick Newkirk, Jeffrey (Amanda) Mariner and Brian (Stacey) Mariner; thirteen great grandchildren and one great great granddaughter; two nieces and a nephew; numerous step-grandchildren and step greatgrandchildren; special neighbors, Judith and Marie, and her dear canine “best friend, ” Mollee. At her request, there will be no funeral service. She will join her husband, Dudley at Ft. Custer National Military Cemetery near Battle Creek. The internment ceremony will take place on Monday, December 7 at 11 am. Attendees should arrive at the staging area inside the cemetery gates by 10:45. George C. Springvloed, age 75, went to be with his Lord on Friday, March 17, 2017. George proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. Preceding him in death are his parents, George and Jeanette (Potter) Springvloed; his sister, Carole Lankheet; his father and mother-in-law, James and Bertha (VanLaar) VanderKodde. He was a faithful husband, father, and friend, who will be dearly missed by his wife of 54 years, Judy; his children, Sherri (Springvloed) Thompson, Dave and Sheri Springvloed, Michelle and Mike Vonk; his grandchildren, Steven, Stephanie, Jacob Springvloed, Victoria, Sydney Vonk; brothers and sisters, Ron and Belle Springvloed, Janice Fredricks, Jim and Lynne Springvloed, Ron Lankheet, Jean and Rev. John Hellinga, James and Cathy VanderKodde; many nieces and nephews. The family will greet visitors on Sunday from 2-4 and 6-8 at Stroo Funeral Home. ELLIOTT - Gerald W. "Jerry" Elliott, age 78, went to be with his Lord on Wednesday, March 15, 2017. He joins his wife, Fern, who preceded him in death. He will be lovingly remembered by his children, Kathy (Dan) Seadorf, Kevin (Betty) Elliott, Ken (Ronda) Elliott, Karen (Phil) Eister, Kurt (Lisa) Elliott, Kerri (Bruce) Morris, Kris (Trent) Bullen; 26 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; one brother and one sister; several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 pm at Stroo Funeral Home. The service will be held 11 am Monday, March 20, at the funeral home. Interment will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. Contributions in Jerry's memory may be made to the American Diabetes Association or the American Lung Association.

MERRIMAN - Michael Lee "Mike" Merriman, age 52, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, March 14, 2017. Mike was preceded in death by his father, Harvey Merriman, and his grandmother, Marie DeWard Longstreet. Surviving are his daughter, Jessi Merriman; his granddaughter, Isabella; his mother, Karen Moore and her husband, Leland; his brother, Rick Merriman; his sister, Jodie Small and her husband, Craig; his nieces and nephew, Alexis Foster, Zach Small, Tayler Merriman, Emerson Merriman; as well as his extended family and friends in the Cutlerville community. A time of visitation will be held at Stroo Funeral Home on Friday, March 17, from 2 - 4 pm, with a time of reflection beginning at 4 pm. EERDMANS, WILMA J.

Wilma Jean Eerdmans, age 90, peacefully went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, March 12, 2017. Wilma was born on July 23, 1926 in Hersey, MI to Daniel and Jennie Thiel. She graduated as valedictorian from Hersey High School. She was married to Louis James Eerdmans Jr. for 59 1/2 years. She loved spending time with her family and friends, playing games, and traveling, spending 17 winters in Mexico with her husband. Wilma was preceded in death by her husband, Louis James Jr.; and son, Louis James III. She will be lovingly remembered by her children, Pamela (Benjamin) Pekelder, Sandra (James) Mallekoote, Linda (Virgil) Boss, Cynthia Corker, Michael Eerdmans, Kenneth Eerdmans; 22 grandchildren; 41 great grandchildren, five great-great grandchildren; sister, Ruth (Harry) Bolthouse; many nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be held at 11 am Tuesday, March 21, at Unity Reformed Church, 4450 Poinsettia SE, Kentwood, with Pastor Zack Olson and Pastor Mark Bergsma officiating. Interment in Kent Memorial Gardens. Contributions in memory of Wilma may be made to Faith Hospice or Unity Reformed Church Helping Hands Fund. Jack Lloyd Boonstra

Jack Lloyd Boonstra, age 92, of Grand Rapids, passed away on March 11, 2017. Jack was born in Grand Rapids, the son of the late Bill and Rena (Roorda) Boonstra. Jack's hard work ethic and love of the outdoors was the result of growing up on his parent's farm. He was a graduate of Creston High where he played football and basketball, and was a member of Varsity Club. Jack was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served during WWII. His life long career started with brothers, Bill and Jim, as successful residential/commercial builders for 37 years. Jack will be remembered for his passionate ways. He had the ability to make life-long, lasting relationships. Other passions included playing golf, fly fishing on Pere Marquette, bowling, and playing cards with family and friends. Jack also found the time to serve on the Grand Rapids Board of Education for two consecutive terms. He will be lovingly remembered by the love of his life, Mary, of 70 years; his children, Jason, of Paso Robles, CA, Rick (Elizabeth) of Sparta, Jan (Robert) DeShazo of Kalamazoo; grandchildren, Fawn, Loren, Amelia, Ross, Trevor, and Jesse; great grandchild, Andrew; sisters-in-law, Barb and Colleen; several nieces and nephews; and many, many friends.

John Thomas Connolly, Sr.

John Thomas Connolly Sr. (”Doc”), age 84, of Alto, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, after a brief illness, in Spectrum Health Blodgett Hospital on March 10, 2017. He was born to the late Thomas Connolly and Kathleen Gallagher on March 10, 1933 in Boston, Massachusetts. John was a brother to Sister Catherine Thomas SND, the late Anne Geeslin, Patsy (Eugene) Kelly, and the late Eileen Connolly. He was a devoted husband to Scotty (Forsyth) Connolly for 53 years; father to John Thomas Jr. and father-in-law to Erin (Lautenschelger) Connolly. John was especially a loving grandfather to his three grandchildren, Ryan, Baileigh, and Sean Connolly; as well as his two grand-dogs, Archer Connolly, and the late Kirby Connolly. He also leaves behind his dog, Toby, and cat, Patterson, who will miss him dearly. John was an active member of the Caledonia community, playing the role of Uncle Sam in many of Caledonia’s Fourth of July parades. He loved the musical arts. He was involved in Grand Rapids Civic Theater, Caledonia Players, and could light up a room with his great singing voice and love of the Irish tunes. John proudly served in the Marine Corps during the Korean War and was a member of the American Legion’s Caledonia Post 305. He was a long time member of the Knights of Columbus, as well as Holy Family Catholic Parish. He served and retired as medical examiner for Kent County as well as from Blodgett Hospital’s pathology department. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 15, at Holy Family Catholic Church, with Fr. Loc Trinh as celebrant. Interment will take place at Holy Corners Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider a donation to Father Joe (Walijewski) for his mission in Lima, Peru at www.frjoesguild.org. The Connolly family will greet visitors on Tuesday from 2 - 4 and 6 - 8 p.m. at Stroo Funeral Home, where the Rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday evening.
