Connie Courtright, age 63, of Kentwood, went to be with her Lord on Monday, November 24, 2014. She was preceded in death by her son, Heath J. Courtright; her father, John M. Kooistra; and a brother, Brian Kooistra. Connie will be loving remembered by her husband of 44 years, James; her son, John A. (Shana) Courtright; daughter-in-law, Cristy Courtright; granddaughter, Kayley Courtright; mother, Jeanette Kooistra; sisters and brothers, Gloria (Bill) Medendorp, Kurtis Kooistra, Karen (Phil) Robbennolt, Wayne (Cheryl) Kooistra; sister-in-law, Phyliss Kooistra; several nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be held 2 pm Saturday, November 29, at Stroo Funeral Home, with Pastor Merritt Johnson officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the family to help with funeral expenses.

Aukeliena J. "Ena" Bakker, age 75, of Byron Center, went to be with her Lord on Tuesday, March 31, 2015. Ena was born in 't Zandt, The Netherlands, was a devoted homemaker, had an amazing talent for gardening, and was loved by everyone. Her parents, Willem and Epke Grashuis; and sister, Janny Jager, preceded her in death. She will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 50+ years, Dirk; her children, Jessica (Wade) Vostad, Jacqueline (Joseph) Hook, Anthony (Alecia) Bakker; ten grandchildren, Brittany (Drew), Derek, Justin, Joshua (Rachel), Nicholas, Jenna, Brooklyn, Tori, Jacob, Ashleigh; great-granddaughter, Ellie; sisters, Jopie Grashuis, Rita (Jannes) Stokroos; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Kiny Franssens, Janny Boersma, Ena Schroor, Ugo (Biny) Bakker, Jaap (Willy) Bakker; several nieces and nephews. The family wishes to express a special thank you to Denise Amerson, and also the staff at Great Lakes Caring Hospice for the wonderful care they provided. The funeral service will be held 11 am Friday, April 3, at Covenant Christian Reformed Church, 7171 Willard Ave. SE, with Rev. Cal VanderMeyden officiating. Interment in Blain Cemetery.

Martin Junior Deemter, age 86, of Caledonia, formerly of Grand Rapids, went to be with his Lord on Thursday, March 19, 2015. Martin retired as a truck driver ffrom Steelcase. He loved to bowl and enjoyed spending time at his home on Little Star Lake in Baldwin. He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret; his daughter, Debra Sherman; son-in-law, William Boot; grandson, Jerry Hossink; brothers, Al and Gerald Deemter; sister, June Hubers; and brother-in-law, Arnold Weaver. Surviving are his children, Jim (Pam) Deemter, Lori (Fred) Edgington, Bonnie (Scott) O'Rourke, Kathy (Steven) Mayo, Steve (Cathy) Deemter; 15 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; sister, Evonne Weaver; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Ruth Deemter-Ockert, Marilyn Deemter, Marlene (Bob) Rose, Harvey Hubers; several nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be held 1 pm Tuesday, March 24, at Stroo Funeral Chapel, with Pastor Al Leonhardt officiating. Interment in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. Contributions in memory of Martin may be made to Hearland Hospice.

Russell W. Polmanteer, Sr.

POLMANTEER - Russell W. Polmanteer, Sr. aged 89, of Caledonia, went to be with his Lord on Friday, April 3, 2015. Russ served in the U.S. Merchant Marines during WWII. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the American Legion Post #305. He was recently inducted into the Golden Gloves Hall of Fame. Russ enjoyed spending time with his family, hunting, fishing, camping, and wood working. He was preceded in death by his only love and wife, Rita. Surviving are his children, Cheryl (James) Brotherton, Russell (Carmela) Polmanteer Jr., Sandy (Roger) Edgerle, Tom (Deb) Polmanteer, Charles (Dena) Polmanteer, Scott (Kris) Polmanteer; 21 grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11:00 am Tuesday, April 7, 2015 at Holy Family Catholic Church, 9669 Kraft Ave., SE; with Fr. Loc Trinh as celebrant. Interment in Dutton Cemetery. Contributions in memory of Russ may be made to Faith Hospice or Holy Family Catholic Church. The family will greet visitors on Monday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm at the Stroo Funeral Home and on Tuesday from 10 to 11 am at church.

Gladys C. Nicolai, age 97, of Cutlerville, entered her heavenly home on Thursday, April 2, 2015. Gladys was an elementary school teacher who finished her career with Grandville Public Schools. She also enjoyed her DMA group at church. Her husband, Edwin, preceded her in death. Surviving are her children, Steve Nicolai, Doug (Pat) Nicolai, Nancy (Terry) Jacobs, Jan (Terry) Weemhoff; many grandchildren and great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank all the staff at Crystal Springs and Spectrum Hospice for their loving care of Gladys. The funeral service will be held 11 am Tuesday, April 7, at Stroo Funeral Home, with Rev. Michael Wentzel and Deacon Chris Rubino officiating. Interment in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. Contributions in memory of Gladys may be made to St. Mark Lutheran Church Memorial Fund or Spectrum Health Hospice.

John P. O'Neill

John P. O'Neill, age 87, of Caledonia, passed away on Sunday, March 29, 2015. John proudly served in the Navy during WWII. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Erin; great granddaughter, Mallory; and brother, George. John will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Teresa; his children, Patty Potter, Colleen O'Neill (Jim McKeoghn), Sean (Imelda) O'Neill, Darrin O'Neill; several grandchildren; great and great-great grandchildren; mother-in-law, Judy VanHoudt; in-laws, Robert (Debra) VanHoudt, Michael (Joan) VanHoudt; Sandra (Scott) Hillis; several nieces and nephews. A graveside service be held in Ft. Custer National Cemetery.

Richard C. Tigchelaar, 70, passed away Palm Sunday, March 29, 2015. Since age five his life was difficult when both an automobile accident and polio left him mentally and physically disabled. He now enjoys wholeness and perfect fellowship with his Lord and Savior whom he knew and trusted with a child-like faith. He is pre-deceased by both parents and his younger brother, Sidney. He leaves an older brother, Peter V. (Patricia) Tigchelaar, and nieces and nephews. A committal service will be held Wednesday, April 1, at 11:00 a.m. at Dutton Cemetery, 7000 Hanna Lake Road. Memorial gifts may be made to Holland Home Benevolence Fund.

Donald Edward Ledford
A memorial gathering celebrating the lives of Don and Elissa will be held on Saturday, April 4, from 1 - 4 p.m. at the home of Nancy and Joe VanDam, 3802 Collingwood Ave. SW, Wyoming, MI
Donald E. Ledford, age 84, of Wyoming, passed away on Sunday, March 29, 2015. Don retired from Wilson Sporting Goods Company after 39 years of loyal service. He once bowled a 300 game, but never had a hole in one. After 63 years of marriage, his loving wife, Elissa, preceded him in death. Don will be deeply missed by his children, Gregory (Theresa) Ledford, Debra (Deen) Guthrey, Nancy (Joe) VanDam, Amy (Robert) Redmer; six grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; his sisters, Lynne (Bill) Burd, Ruth Ann Buschert; his brother, A. Michael (Pam) Ledford; his sister-in-law, JoAnne Prawdzik; his brother-in-law, Mark White; many nieces and nephews. James "Jim" Luchies, age 62, of Grand Rapids, was called to his heavenly home on Tuesday, March 24, 2015. Jim loved his family, meeting and talking to people, coffee, and fishing. Preceding him in death are his son, James; and father, Jupe. He will be greatly missed by his daughter, Rachel (Justin) Young; his son, Andrew Luchies; grandchildren, Chlorisa, Gabriel, Kayleigh; his mother, Doris; sisters and brother, Bonnie (Tom) Bultje, Jan (Russ) Thurston, Gary Luchies; spouse, Patsy Luchies; and many friends. The funeral service will be held 12 noon Friday, March 27, at Stroo Funeral Home, with Chaplain Steve Shick officiating. Interment in Georgetown Township Cemetery. Contributions in memory of Jim may be made to Spectrum Health Hospice.
