Larry Lee Werkema, age 62, of Grand Rapids, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, March 27, 2015. Larry loved watching his grandchildren's sporting events, and going to the casino and playing Texas Hold em. He will be missed by his fiancée, Teresa Brown; his children, Jason (Sheryl) Spedoske, Mark (Jen) Spedoske, Larry Werkema, Thomas Werkema, Nichole Werkema; grandchildren, Alex, Autumn, Calysta, Zak, Madelynn, Trista, Blake, Nathan, Arabelle, Makayla, Jordan, Jacob, Jordon, Savannah; parents, Don and Phyllis Werkema; brothers and sisters, Don (Linda) Werkema, Rick (Lynn) Werkema, John (Cher) Werkema, Tim Werkema, Jamie Brock, Linda Deluen; and several nieces and nephews. The memorial service will be held 4 pm Wednesday, April 1, at Hunters Glenn Clubhouse, 1132 Hunters Glenn, Wayland.

Bob Thompson, age 90, passed away on Monday, March 23, 2015 at Trillium Woods of Byron Center. Bob was born September 30, 1924 in Iron Mountain, MI to Al and Ruth Thompson. He graduated from Kingsford High School in 1942 and attended University of Michigan. Bob served in the Merchant Marine during World War II. He worked for Dow Chemical in Ludington then owned his own insurance agency in Hart and retired from Hastings Mutual Insurance Company in 1986. Bob was a member of the Shrine and during his lifetime enjoyed skiing, boating, ranching, traveling, tennis and golf. Bob is survived by his wife, Jeanne; children, Terry (Janice) Thompson, Kendra Nicholas (Michael, deceased); grandchildren, Ryan (Missy) Nicholas, Todd (Jennifer) Nicholas, Michael (Jennifer) Thompson, Tara (Mark) Haener; 16 great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; sisters, LaVone Cox, Louise Glaysher; nieces and nephews. Memorial services will be held 11 AM on Tuesday, March 31, at Trinity Reformed Church, 712 Apple Ave., Holland, with Rev. Chris DeGraaf and Rev. Deb Yurk officiating. Relatives and friends may meet the family prior to the service Tuesday from 10-11 am at the church. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to Trinity Reformed Church or Faith Hospice Trillium Woods.

LOWELL, MICHIGAN
After a long and courageous battle with liver disease, Melissa J. Roche, age 45, passed away on Friday, March 27, 2015, surrounded by family. Melissa touched many lives through her career as a Nurse, most recently as Director of Nursing at Metron of Forest Hills. She will be deeply missed by her husband, John Roche IV; children, Andrew, Alex, Jack, and Emily; parents, Janet and David Way; sisters, Teresa Way and April (Aaron) May; as well as other family members and friends. Visitation with Melissa's family will be held on Thursday, April 2, from 3 - 4 pm at Stroo Funeral Home, where a memorial service will begin at 4 pm Thursday.

Marvin Jack Lake, age 69, of Cutlerville, went to be with his Lord on Wednesday, March 18, 2015. Marvin is an Army Veteran who proudly served his country during the Vietnam War. He loved American muscle cars and hot rodding. His son, Robert, preceded him in death. He will be deeply missed by his wife of 48 years, Gertrude; his children, David (Trina) Lake, Kirk (Jen) Lake, Michael Lake; nine grandchildren, two great grandchildren with one on the way; his brother, Jim Lake; and sisters, Judy and Trudy. Visitation will be held Sunday, March 22, from 3-5 pm followed by the funeral service at 5 pm at Stroo Funeral Home. Interment in Dutton Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the ALS Foundation.

Our beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, Marilyn J. Wielinga, age 76, of Byron Center, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 19, 2015, after a brief and courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by her loving family. Another beautiful angel earned her wings and entered into the stairway to heaven. We know she will be watching each and every one of us on our journey through life. We adored her for her love of family and selfless acts of kindness. Marilyn will be greatly missed by her family and friends, and will always hold a special place in our hearts. She will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 56 years, Thomas R. Wielinga, Sr.; her children, Thomas (Julie) Wielinga, Tamara (John) Poppe, Tonja (Craig) Lanting; 12 grandchildren; many great grandchildren; brothers, Ron (Phylis) Foote, Orlan (Judy) Foote; special friend, Bonnie Mapes; and her precious pets, Mindi Sue and Tika. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Graciel Foote. The family will greet visitors on Monday, March 23, from 10-12 noon followed by a memorial service at 12 noon, at Stroo Funeral Home, with Rev. Kyle Ray officiating. Entombment in Kent Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Make a Wish Foundation.

God called his angel, Ardis Ruth Wyatt, age 72, of Caledonia, home to Him on Tuesday, March 31, 2015. She was preceded in death by her son, Todd; her parents, Richard and Agnet Hoffman; and sister, Audrey. She will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 52 years, James; her children, Fawn (Richard) Postma, Jim (Jackie) Wyatt; her grandchildren, Luke and Derek Postma, Peyton and Logan Wyatt; and special family, Dr. Tammy Born, Drew and Allie. The funeral service will be held 11 am Saturday, April 4, at Friendship Church, 190 - 100th St. SE., with Pastor Cal Compagner officiating. Interment in Winchester Cemetery. Jack R. VanderPloeg, age 80, died early Saturday, March 28, 2015 after a long and courageous battle with heart disease. He was born in Grand Rapids, MI on February 11, 1935, to Sam and Ella VanderPloeg. On October 27, 1955, he married his high school sweetheart Verna (Roedema). Together they raised 3 sons and 2 daughters. Jack served in the Navy Reserves and after that he worked in the shoe business for most of his life. He was also a long-time member of New Community Church, a place he loved and where he was actively involved. Jack loved the out of doors, and was an avid fisherman. He and Verna also enjoyed the many trips with special friends Joyce and Merle VanNoord. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Verna; his children Debra and Mark Feyen, Scott and Cindy VanderPloeg, Lyn and Tim Kool, Todd and Brenda VanderPloeg, and Jack and Betsy VanderPloeg; grandchildren, Dr. Jill and Chris Miedema, Paul and Lindy Feyen, Steve and Sara VanderPloeg, Staci and Drew DeVries, John Mark and Crystal Feyen, Tim VanderPloeg, Amy and Nate Asma, Mike VanderPloeg, Brett and Heidi Casetta, David and Beth Pierce, Connor VanderPloeg, Grady VanderPloeg; great grandchildren Kaitrin, Jazlyn, Juliana, Macie, Joshua, Marcus, Easton, and Jameson. Funeral services will be held 11 am on Wednesday, April 1 at New Community Church, 2340 Dean Lake NE, with Pastor Lew VanderMeer officiating. Interment in Dutton Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Celebrate Recovery at New Community Church. Visitation will be Tuesday from 6 - 8 pm at Stroo Funeral Home, and Wednesday from 10 - 10:45 am at the church.
