Johnnie "John" Owens, Jr., aged 65, of Kentwood, went to be with his Lord on Thursday, February 5, 2015. He is survived by his son, Jack; grandson, Brandon; special friend, Gloria Palmbos; sisters and brothers, Martha (Norm) VanWuffen, Chuck (Maryann) Owens, Carrie (Don) Moore, Carolyn Hill; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be held 1 pm Tuesday, February 10, at the Stroo Funeral Home. Interment in Woodlawn Cemetery.

Linda Faye Ploeg, age 68, of Grandville, formerly of Dutton, went home to be with her Lord on Friday evening, February 6, 2015. She was preceded in death by her parents, Julius and Jeanette Ploeg. Linda will be lovingly remembered by her brother, Harold B. Ploeg of Caledonia; many cousins, as well as her caregivers and friends at Hope Network. The funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday, February 10, at Dutton United Reformed Church, 6950 Hanna Lake Ave. SE, with Rev. Brian G. Najapfour officiating. Interment will be in Pine Hill Cemetery. Contributions in memory of Linda may be made to Hope Network.

Connie Joann Hasmanis, aged 67, of Grand Rapids, was called to her heavenly home on Wednesday January 28, 2015. Connie enjoyed reading, gardening, shopping, and taking care of her animals. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jack and Wanda Finnegan; and brother, Mike Finnegan. Surviving are her son, Mike (Jenny) Hasmanis; sisters, Pat (Paul) Agema, Debbie Finnegan; and many nieces and nephews. Private family services have already taken place. Interment in Trufant Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Connie may be made to the American Heart Association or the Arthritis Foundation of Michigan. "Mom, your struggle is finally over and may you rest in peace! Thank you for everything: the love, the friendship, the lessons and memories. I know you will continue to guide and protect me until we meet again. Love, Mike."

Robert A. "Bob" Noble, age 69, of Caledonia, passed away on Thursday, January 29, 2015. Bob proudly served his country in the Army during the Vietnam War, and is a retired postal worker. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and two sisters. Surviving are his sons, Chad Noble (fiancé, Tonya Peak), Jared (Darcy) Noble; his grandchildren, Breanna and Deven Noble, Kaden, Price, and Josie Noble; sisters and brothers, Barb (Forrest) Mitchell, Dennis Noble, Pat (Jerry) Staley, Nancy (Garth) Grevenstuk, Glenn (DeeDee) Noble, Susan (Wayne) Wilcoxson, Judy Noble; several nieces, nephews, and friends. The funeral service will be held 11 am Tuesday, February 3, at Stroo Funeral Home. Interment in Ft. Custer National Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Michigan Veterans Home.

Alfred Vogel, age 83, of Grand Rapids, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, January 23, 2015. Al was born on August 30, 1931 in Fremont, MI to Peter and Nellie Vogel. He was preceded in death by his wife, Eleanor; brothers, Abe, Andy, Ernie, and John; and his sister, Elaine Bruxvoort. Al will be lovingly remembered by his children and grandchildren, Mark Vogel, Renae and Pat Kindle (Jeanie), Kim and Tom Geyer (Kylene, Morgan, and Levi), Matt and Deb Vogel (Andrew, Rachel, and Jacob); his sisters, Irene VanderWal, Cora Vogel, Julia Vogel, Esther Meeuwenberg; brother-in-law, Ralph Bruxvoort; numerous nieces and nephews. Al was a carpenter by trade and loved his work. He was a life long member of Fifth Reformed Church, and a Korean War veteran. His kind and gentle manner will be missed by many. The funeral service will be held 1:00 pm Wednesday, January 28, at Fifth Reformed Church, 2012 Griggs SE, with Pastor Brian Telzerow officiating. Interment in Dutton Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Grand Rapids Home for Veterans.

Brenda Joy Dykstra, age 52, of Walker, went to her eternal home to be with Jesus on Monday, February 9, 2015. Brenda worked for S. Abraham & Sons as a computer programmer for 23 years. She was preceded in death by her father, Henry. She will be lovingly remembered by her mother, Jenny; her brother, Randy and his wife, Pam; nieces and nephews, Erica, Andrea, Justin (Liz), Adam, and Katie; many aunts, uncles, cousins and special dear friends. The family wishes to express special thanks to Tender Care Wyoming and Trillium Woods for their loving care of Brenda these past months. The funeral service will be held 1 pm Friday, February 13, at Stroo Funeral Home, with Rev. Curt Walters officiating. Interment in Kent Memorial Gardens. Dorene Mae Pelton (Havens), 88, of Wyoming, MI passed away peacefully Tuesday, January 27, 2015 at Pilgrim Manor in Grand Rapids, MI. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Carson C. Pelton; parents, Orville and Frances Havens; twin sister, Lorene and Raymond Cook; sisters, Beatrice and Leland Wilmarth, Eloise and Jack Ryan; brother, Curtis and Loretta Havens; parents-in-law, J.I. and Nina Pelton; sister-in-law, Betty and Dale DeByle; brothers-in-law, James and Arlene Pelton, Lawrence Pelton. She is survived by daughter, Christine and Richard Duyser; granddaughter, Leah and Scott Stinson; grandson, Mitchell and Bethany Duyser; great-granddaughter, Phoebe Rose Duyser, sisters-in-law, Mary (Lawrence) Pelton, Mary (James) Pelton; and many special nieces and nephews. Born on the plains of Geddes, South Dakota to a very close-knit family, Dorny learned to stay busy, make do with less, and love without reservation. She had a creative genius for making useful things out of a little bit of nothing and was most known for her limitless abilities with a sewing machine. Avid bowler, consummate garage sale shopper, doting wife, mother, and grandmother, she will be greatly missed. The family extends many thanks to the loving staff of Pilgrim Manor for their compassionate care of Mom for the last 4 years. Cremation has taken place with private interment at Rest Lawn Cemetery, Grand Rapids, MI. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 7, at 7:00 pm at Gethsemane Lutheran Church 3152 Clyde Park Ave, Wyoming, MI with Rev. Lee Welker presiding. The family will greet family and friends one hour before the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Pilgrim Manor Foundation 2000 Leonard St NE, Grand Rapids, MI 49505.

David E. Gabrielse, age 69, went to be with his Lord on Saturday, February 7, 2015. He had a lifelong dedication to the welfare of children. For over 30 years he worked at DHS followed by teaching at GVSU School of Social Work. David was active with World Renew Disaster Relief, with a passion for helping victims after Hurricane Katrina. He is survived by his spouse, Judy; his sons, Randy (Karen), Greg (Carrie), Kevin (Karen), Dan (Beth), and Steve; six grandchildren; his mother, Cornelia of Sheboygan, WI; his brothers, Edward (Jane), and Bernard (Carol). A Memorial service will be held 1 pm, Saturday, February 14 at Eastern Avenue Christian Reformed Church, 514 Eastern Ave. SE, with Rev. Thea Leunk officiating. Visitation will be held Friday from 2 - 5 pm and 7 - 9 pm at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be given to World Renew DRS or South Christian High School.
