Janet Murdock
Janet Barbara Poverud, the daughter of Irvin and Edna (Miller) Poverud, was born April 20, 1944, at Appleton, MN. She grew up and received her education in Holloway, MN, where she graduated from high school in 1962.
In January of 1963, Janet married Joe Christopherson. They lived in Minneapolis, MN, and in Stockton, CA, before they made their home in Enid, Oklahoma in the early 1980’s. They later moved to Lahoma, Oklahoma. Joseph died in December of 1992.
On June 13, 1995, Janet married Ronald Murdock. They lived in Enid. After retiring, they traveled in their motorhome, spending significant time in Texas and in California. Ronald died on May 30, 2002.
After Ronald’s death, Janet lived in Stockton. She recently moved to live with her niece, Kathy Strandberg, at rural Ada, MN.
Janet died at Kathy’s home, under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley, on Thursday, November 13, 2003, at the age of 59.
She is survived by a brother, Vernon (Janice) Poverud of Fairmount, ND; and 19 nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her two husbands; her parents; a sister, Dianne Daniel; and two brothers, Eldon and Arvid Poverud.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, November 16, 2003, at 1:00 PM in the home of Jean and Marc Harju, 2902 Rivershore Drive South, Moorhead, MN.
Gladys Wicklund
Gladys Sylvia Amundson was born June 4, 1906, to Lewis and Gina (Erickson) Amundson, in Christine, ND, where she grew up and graduated from high school. In 1931, Gladys graduated from St. Lukes School of Nursing, Fargo, ND, and she worked as a RN at St. Lukes Hospital.
On July 20, 1934, Gladys married Ernest Wicklund in Fargo and they made their home in Moorhead, MN. In the 1950’s they moved to Velva, ND, where they lived for twenty years. In 1972, they moved back to Moorhead. Ernest died in November of 1989, and Gladys continued to live in their home until becoming a resident of Moorhead HealthCare Center in 2000.
Gladys died on Monday, November 17, 2003, at the age of 97, at Moorhead HealthCare Center. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by one brother, Torfin Amundson; and two sisters, Amelia Wicklund and Doris Wolff.
Gladys is survived by a brother, Gerhard Amundson, Fargo; two sisters, Effie Johnson, Moorhead, and Lillian Erwin, Santee, CA; and many nieces and nephews.

Interment: Christine Cemetery, Christine, ND.
Viola Lampela
Viola Alvina Lampela (nee Efraimson), 85, Moorhead, MN, went to her heavenly home on her baptismal birthday, November 24. She was born in Perth, North Dakota, on September 21, 1918. She went to high school in Rolla, North Dakota, where she graduated valedictorian from Rolla High School. After high school she was a beauty operator in Rolla, spent time in California and taught in a one room school house in Armourdale, North Dakota, before meeting and marrying the Reverend Eugene Lampela in 1945. They served congregations in Rocklake, North Dakota, Mount View Township - Rolla, Superior, Wisconsin, Esko, Minnesota, Wakefield, Michigan, Painesville, Ohio, and New York Mills, Minnesota. After her husband’s death in 1967, she moved her family to Moorhead where she served as the Director of Special Education at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church for 35 years.
She is survived by her son, Jim (Mary) Lampela, Sarasota, Florida; seven daughters, Dawn (Don) Reisig, Sabin, Minnesota, Becky (Les) Landrie, Momence, Illinois, Mary (Dave) Williams, St. Louis, Missouri, Laurel (Helen) Lampela, Albuquerque, New Mexico, Eva (Ray) Perry, St. Louis, Kathy Lampela, Moorhead and Sue (Craig) Beyer, Fargo, North Dakota; eleven grandchildren and one great-grandson; three brothers, Rev. Carl Efraimson, Rudy Efraimson, and Rev. Rupert Efraimson; two sisters, Esther Holien and Josephine Larson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene Lampela; mother, Emma Efraimson; father Alfred Efraimson; three brothers Arnie, Eino, and Bill; and three sisters, Hilda Gregor, Emma O’Brien, and Jenny.
In lieu of flowers memorials can be given to Special Education at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church.
Visitation: One hour before the funeral at the church.

Mary Weber
Mary Cecelita Brennan was born January 5, 1912, to Richard and Anna (Baldwin) Brennan, in Chatsworth, IL. The family moved to Moorhead, MN, in 1920, where Mary attended St Joseph’s Catholic School and graduated from Moorhead High School.
On July 17, 1939, Mary married Loren Johnson in Fergus Falls, MN. They made their home in Moorhead. Mary worked as a teller at First National Bank, Moorhead, until taking time off to raise their two children. In August of 1951, Loren died. Mary returned to work at First National Bank and also worked at the Veteran’s Affairs Department, Moorhead, for a short period of time. In January of 1963, Mary married Alphonse Weber in Moorhead, and they made their home on a farm near Borup, MN. Alphonse died in October of 1975, and Mary returned to Moorhead. In 2000, she became a resident of Eventide Catered Living, Moorhead. She then moved to the Evergreens, Moorhead, and in 2002, the Evergreens, Fargo, ND.
Mary died Thursday, November 27, 2003, at the age of 91, in the Evergreens, Fargo, under the care of Hospice.
She is survived by a daughter, Candace (Ed) Miller, Perley, MN; a son, Richard (Mary) Johnson, Escondido, CA; five grandchildren, Gail (Donan) Borowicz, Steve (Karen) Miller, Lunnette (Eric) Moffitt, Brian (Theresa) Johnson, and Michael (Angela) Johnson; and eight great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husbands and parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters.

Morris Johnson
Morris V. Johnson, 86, Fargo, ND, died Tuesday, December 2, 2003, in MeritCare Hospital, Fargo.
Morris was born January 14, 1917, near Hawley, MN. He grew up in Fargo and graduated from Oak Grove Lutheran High School. He served with the 26th Infantry, 1st Division in World War II from 1942 - 1946, and took part in the liberation of Nuremberg.
Morris married Irene Benson on February 17, 1951, and they made their home in Fargo. He was employed by Midwest Motor Express for 38 years, retiring in 1983. During his career, he was recognized by Time Magazine in 1970 as North Dakota Driver of the Year.
He is survived by his wife; a son, Jay (Michelle), Rosemount, MN; two daughters, Jackie (Brian) Jones, Fargo, and Julie Johnson, Moorhead, MN; one sister, Lillian Hart, Moorhead; six grandchildren, Jocelyn Olson, Kendra Olson, Dena Jones, Domenic Jones, Brie Johnson, and Emily Johnson.
A daughter, Debra Ann; his parents, Albert and Gurine (Reierson) Johnson; two brothers, Arthur and Larry; and one sister, Gladys Wilson, preceded him in death.

Rose Hermann
Rose Marie Hermann was born July 19, 1924, to Leopold and Flora (Cossette) Brunelle, in Wild Rice, ND, where she was raised. Rose attended schools in that area and graduated from St. Joseph’s Academy in St. Benedict, ND.
On January 7, 1947, Rose married Andrew L. Hermann in Fargo, ND, and they made their home on their farm near Georgetown, MN. Andrew died January 16, 1980, and Rose continued to live in Georgetown until moving to Moorhead in 1986. Rose died Tuesday, December 2, 2003 in her home under hospice care, surrounded by her family.
Rose is survived by six daughters, Mary (Ernest) Normandin, Crookston, MN, Karen Hermann and Barbara (Mark) Thompson, both Moorhead, Patricia (Bernard) Audette, Cambridge, MN, Rose Hermann (Rick Thomas), Egland, ND, and Jean (Deon) Walton, Felton, MN; six sons, Jerome (Linda), Georgetown, Michael (Sheila), Dubuque, IA, Charles (Sharon), Grand Forks, ND, William (Mary) and Richard (Lisa), both Moorhead, and Thomas (Brenda), St. Thomas, ND; twenty-three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; three sisters, Alice Zwack and Bea (Bob) Thomas, both Fargo, and Marcy Robinson, Bismarck, ND; and one brother, Raymond (Maryann) Brunelle, Colorado Springs, CO. There were many lives touched by her generosity, and Rose will live on in our hearts and memories as a loving, generous, intelligent, compassionate, courageous mother, grandmother, sister, and friend who loved to laugh and sing. She was a caregiver and continued to give until she went home to be with her Heavenly Father.

Robert Volochenko
Robert “Bob” Dean Volochenko, 48, Moorhead, died Tuesday, December 2, 2003, in his home.
Bob was born on July 13, 1955, to Henry and La Donna Volochenko in Minot, ND. As a small child, Bob moved with his family to Moorhead where he attended school, graduating from Moorhead High School in 1972. He then attended Moorhead Technical College receiving a degree in Construction Electricity in 1974. In 1975 Bob joined the Electrical Workers Local #1426 and started his journey as an electrician working with various local electrical contractors.
Bob was united in marriage to Alice M. Wendell of Dilworth, MN, on November 19, 1976. The couple made their home in Moorhead. In 1984 Bob began working for Brandt Electric out of Olivia, MN. During this time, Bob served as a journeyman electrician and foreman on a number of Brandt Electric projects, including the Beltrami County Jail, Beltrami, MN, 3M Plant in Brookings, SD, Moorhead Wastewater Treatment Facility, and the Fergus Falls Wastewater Treatment Facility, Fergus Falls, MN. Illness forced Bob’s retirement in 1995.
Bob loved fishing, woodworking, motorcycle riding, working on cars, and spending time with his family.
Bob is survived by his wife of twenty-seven years, Alice, Moorhead; one daughter, Kari Ann (Jamie) Abner, Fargo; one son, Michael, Moorhead; two granddaughters, Ashleigh and Aleigha Abner; his parents, Henry and La Donna, Moorhead; three brothers, Steve, Balfour, ND, Ron (Lori), Winter Haven, FL, and Paul, Silvis, IL; two sisters, Kathy (Dave) Prouty, Mantorville, MN, and Mary Kay Volochenko, Moorhead; and several aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews and nieces.
