Kermit Whaley

Kermit Whaley, 84, Felton, MN, died Monday, April 19, 2004, in his home.

Kermit Carl Whaley was born December 1, 1919, to Theodore and Stella (Brenna) Whaley in Hitterdal, MN, where he grew up and attended school.

On July 18, 1942, Kermit married MayBelle Larsen in Hitterdal and they made their home in Felton. Kermit enlisted in the Army and served in WW II. Upon his discharge, he returned to Felton and worked at American Crystal Sugar for over twenty years. On December 2, 1980, MayBelle died.

Kermit is survived by two sons, Ardell (Lana), Hitterdal and Arland, Ulen, MN; a brother, Vernon (Bernice), Moorhead, MN; a sister, Arlis (Vic) Wagner, Moorhead; and one grandson.

Visitation: Wednesday, April 21, 2004, 5 - 7 PM, Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead

Funeral Service: Thursday, April 22, 2004, 10:00 AM, Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, Felton

Interment: Felton City Cemetery, Felton

Rodney Weatherford

Rodney V. Weatherford, 66, Moorhead, MN, died Thursday, February 26, 2004, in Eventide Lutheran Home, Moorhead.

Rodney Verne Weatherford was born February 21, 1938, in Moorhead, where he grew up and graduated from high school. He then attended North Dakota State University, Fargo, ND, where he graduated with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. In 1959, Rodney married Linda Ledeboer in Moorhead where they made their home. They then moved to California where Rodney worked as an Aerospace Engineer for Rockwell International. In 1998, Rodney moved back to Moorhead and he became a resident of Eventide Lutheran Home in 1999.

Rodney is survived by two daughters, Trace Weatherford and Shannon (Steve) Colton, both in California; his mother, Selma Weatherford, Moorhead; a brother, Wayne (Bonnie) Weatherford, Alexandria, MN; a sister, Lois (Alvin Jr.) Arneson, Chandler, TX; and two grandchildren.

Funeral Service: Sunday, February 29, 2004 -2:30 PM with visitation one hour prior to the service Eventide Lutheran Home Chapel, Moorhead

Burial: Riverside Cemetery Glyndon, MN

Teresa Wambach

Teresa Eleanor Kolosky was born February 20, 1908, to Joseph and Sophia (Stach) Kolosky, in Georgetown, MN, where she grew up and attended school.

On September 22, 1926, Teresa married Roland N. Wambach in Georgetown, where they made their home on a farm nearby. They farmed until 1965, and then moved into Georgetown where they owned and operated a general store until 1969. Roland died on June 26, 1991.

Teresa died Sunday, March 28, 2004, in her Georgetown home, at the age of 96, under the care of the Hospice of the Red River Valley.

Teresa loved to bake, garden, and can the vegetables she grew. She also enjoyed being around people.

Teresa is survived by a daughter, Rita Kopp, Chicago, IL; three sons, Allen, Georgetown, Robert (Bernedine), Georgetown, and Ronnie (Shirley), Lake Park, MN; thirty-one grandchildren, fifty great-grandchildren, and many great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, a son, Gene; one brother, and four sisters.

Visitation: Wednesday, 5 - 7 PM with prayer service at 6 PM, Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead, MN

Funeral Mass: Thursday, 11:00 AM, St. John The Baptist Catholic Church, Georgetown

Interment: Wild Rose Cemetery, Georgetown

Rita Wagner

Rita L. Wagner, age 79, of Moorhead, MN, died Thursday, May 13, 2004, at Eventide Lutheran Home in Moorhead.

Rita Lucy Zins was born May 29, 1924, in Red Lake Falls, MN, to loving Christian parents, Joseph and Mary (Weinhandl) Zins. She grew up and received her education in Red Lake Falls. She was joined in marriage to Donavon Joseph Wagner on October 3, 1947, in Red Lake Falls. They made their home in Moorhead.

Three children were born from their love, Robert Laurence in 1948, Phyllis Marie in 1950, and Joseph Donavon in 1954. For the rest of her life, Rita was a devoted wife to Donavon, and a loving mother to her children, for whom she made many sacrifices, denying herself of so much.

“We love you mom and our hearts broke in a million pieces the day we lost you. Dad lost a big part of himself because you were half of him.”

Rita is survived by her husband, Donavon, Moorhead; a daughter, Freedom Phyllis Gray, Moorhead; a son, Joe (Lynnae) Wagner, West Fargo, ND; a sister, Louise Foldesi, Greenbush, MN; two brothers, Ben Zins, Minneapolis, MN, and Francis Zins, Long Prairie, MN; seven grandchildren, Vern and Delaina Dahnke, Bill Wagner, Jonathon Gray, and Kailyn, Stacie and Abigail Clark; and many others who loved her and were so dear to her heart. Rita was preceded in death by a son, Robert, who died on Dec. 20, 1989. ”Now heaven shines a lot brighter with you there, Mom. Love you forever.”

Visitation: Sunday, from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead, and one hour before the funeral, at the church.

Prayer service: Sunday at 6:00 PM Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead.

Funeral service: Monday, May 17, 2004, at 1 PM St. Joseph Catholic Church, Moorhead, Minnesota.

Burial: St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery, Moorhead.

Barbara Jean Videen-Terrell

Barbara Jean Videen, the daughter of Robert and Judith Videen, was born August 6, 1962, in Moorhead, MN. She grew up and received her education in Moorhead, where she graduated from Moorhead High School in 1980. She then attended Josef’s School of Hair Design in Fargo, ND.

For the last thirteen years Barbara lived and worked in the twin cities area and was recently transferred to Florida. On Jan. 16, 2004, she was married to her long-time friend, Hal Terrell.

Barbara died Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2004, at West Side Regional Medical Center, Plantation, FL, due to heart failure, at the age of 41.

She is survived by her husband, Hal Terrell, Sunrise, FL; her parents, Robert and Judith Videen, Moorhead; grandparents, Duane and Doris Bailey, Moorhead, and Carlene Bradshaw, Minier, IL; three sisters, Kellie Videen, Moorhead, Debra Alwin, Fargo, and Teresa Schroeder, Glyndon, MN; three brothers, David (Michelle) Tinjum, Moorhead, Paul (DeeAnn) Tinjum, Cottage Grove, MN, and Scott (Cammy) Videen, Moorhead; eleven nieces and nephews, several aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Visitation: Friday, 4 PM until 7 PM Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead.

Memorial Service: Saturday (Feb. 7, 2004) at 11 AM Bethesda Lutheran Church, Moorhead.

Burial: Evergreen Memorial Cemetery, Moorhead.

Marlys E. Tollefson

Marlys Elaine Tollefson was born October 25, 1935, in Moorhead, MN, to Clarence and Nelda Olson. Marlys was raised in Fargo where she attended school, including business college.

Marlys married Willard Louis Tollefson September 13, 1952, in Fargo, and they made their home in Casselton, ND. They moved back to Fargo where she worked for Herbst Department Store, Fargo. She worked for seventeen years for Dahlgren Seed, Fargo.

Willard died November 9, 1992, and she moved to Carson City, NV, for a short time before she returned to Fargo. She recently moved to West Fargo.

Marlys is survived by two sons, Robert (Patricia) Tollefson, and Thomas Tollefson, both West Fargo; one daughter, Judy (Jerome) Hertel, Moorhead, MN; thirteen grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, Marlys was preceded in death by two sons, Roger and Ronald; and two grandsons, David and Patrik. Marlys died Saturday, April 24, 2004, in Innovis Health, Fargo, at sixty-eight years of age.

Visitation: Tuesday, April 27, 2004; 6 - 9 PM Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead

Funeral: Wednesday, April 28, 2004; 11 AM Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead

John L. Sullivan

John L. Sullivan, 83, of Moorhead, MN, passed away suddenly after a lengthy illness on Feb. 16, 2004, at Merit Care Hospital in Fargo, ND.

John Leo Sullivan was born on September 25, 1920, in Caledonia, ND, to Michael Leo and Minnie (Doeden) Sullivan. He was educated at St. Mary’s Catholic School in Fargo.

On October 11, 1941, he was united in marriage to Vivienne Marsh in Nebraska. He served in World War II in the Battle of the Bulge, the Battle of Normandy, in France and Belgium. He rose to the rank of Staff Sergeant for the No. 1 Howitzer "Snowball" of Battery B. He was awarded the Bronze Star during his enlistment in the army. After being discharged from the army he became part owner of the Veterans Cleaners located on NP Avenue in Fargo.

In 1951 John joined the Moorhead Police Force. In 1958 he became captain and rose to the rank of the first Deputy Chief of Police in 1970. He continued as Deputy Chief until 1978 when he was promoted to Acting Chief of Police. John retired from the police force in 1980 after serving the city of Moorhead for 29 years. During the years that he was a policeman, he was involved in School Safety Patrol and Bike Safety, visiting the Moorhead elementary schools promoting bicycle safety. John was the first motorcycle patrolman in Moorhead. He also worked with the boy scouts. In 2002 he received a DIPLOME from the Minister of Defense in France for his service in France during the war from 1944-1945. John was a life member of the VFW and the American Legion in Moorhead.

John enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, driving wrecker, collecting John Deere memorabilia, and "putzing and dinging" (keeping busy) at his lake cabin on Devils Lake, MN.

He is survived and sadly missed by four daughters and one son, Juli (Dan) Neumann, Orange Park, FL, Verlee Sullivan, Graceville, MN, Roxanne (Michael Larson) Dahl, Dilworth, MN, John (Lisa) Sullivan, West Fargo, ND, and Penny (Harvey) Moos, Moorhead; three sisters, Frances (Ardey) Peterson, Fargo, Florence Dornes, California, and Mary Borgen, Moorhead; grandchildren, Wayne, John, and Chad Neumann, Marshal, John “JR”, and ViAnnah Sullivan, Kristi Dahl (Brand Nelson), Dustin and Cameron Moos, Brittany and Danielle Davila, and Anthony “Butch” Peralta; and great-grandchildren, Makailyn Neumann, Josef “Lars” Dahl and Shelby Sullivan. John was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Vivienne; grandchildren, Jacques and Joston Sullivan; sisters and brothers, Vera “Dolly” Sullivan, Geri Herbst, Margaret Farnum, and Jimmy and Patrick Sullivan.

Visitation will be at the Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead, Thursday, February 19 from 4-8 PM with a prayer service at 7 PM. The funeral for John L. Sullivan will be Friday, February 20, 2004, at 2 PM at Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, Moorhead.
