Marjorie Lopez

Marjorie Irene Bergin was born May 1, 1931, in Tadmore, Saskatchewan Canada, to Austin and Marion (Bickel) Bergin. Marjorie was raised in the Moosejaw, Saskatchewan, Canada, area. At twelve years of age, she and her mother moved to the Fargo/Moorhead area where she was raised and attended school. She worked as a waitress at the Powers Hotel, Fargo, and at the Little Giant Grill in Moorhead, MN, where she met her husband.

Marjorie was married to Manuel Y. Lopez, August 8, 1949, in Ipswich, SD, and they made their home in Moorhead where Manuel served as a captain in the Moorhead Police Department. After the children were older, she began her career in nursing at The Fairmont, Moorhead. Marjorie worked as a CNA in nursing homes in Minnesota, Arizona and California. She retired in 1995.

Manuel died February 18, 1978, and Marjorie continued to reside in Moorhead. She spent many of the summer months at her home on Big Floyd Lake near Detroit Lakes, MN, and the winter months in Mission, TX.

Marjorie died Wednesday, February 4, 2004, at seventy-two years of age, in her home surrounded by her family and friends, under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley.

Marjorie is lovingly survived by her five children, Randall (Roberta) Lopez, Alderson, OK, Robert (Jean) Lopez, Glyndon, MN, Marla (Bill) Lopez Dooley, Salt Lake City, UT, Ryan (Susan) Lopez, Fargo, and Laura (Doug) Lopez Dahl, Clearbrook, MN; eight grandchildren, Brandon, Niesa, Kevin, April, Kelly, Jennifer and Mia Lopez, and Rudi McDaniels; one brother, Wayne (Alice) Bergin, Phoenix, AZ; and her companion of many years, Marvin “Sandy” Sanderson, Fargo.

In addition to her parents and husband, Marjorie was preceded in death by a brother, Roger, on December 7, 1941, aboard the USS Arizona in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii.

Memorial service for Marjorie will be Saturday, February 7, 2004, at 3 PM, in Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead. Friends may call on Saturday, after 2 PM.

Alan Loe

Alan Charles Loe, 65, rural Georgetown, MN, passed away peacefully on March 20, 2004, with his family by his side, on his farm where his grandfather and father had passed away before him.

Alan was born in Moorhead, MN, to Alfred and Margaret (Finke) Loe on September 13, 1938. He attended Borup and Hendrum schools, graduating from Hendrum in 1957. He married Kaye Finch at Grace Lutheran Church in Ada, MN, on May 28, 1960. He was employed at American Crystal Sugar in Moorhead, for nineteen years. He also operated a family based hay and straw enterprise for over thirty years. He was a member of the Hendrum school board for twelve years and was actively involved in the Hendrum/Halstad school consolidation, which led to the formation of Norman County West Schools.

His deep love of home and family was apparent every day of his life and will shine through and sustain his wife, sons, and their families.

Alan is survived by his wife, Kaye; two sons, Jeff (Cheryl), Perley, MN, and Darin (Lisa), Maryville, MO; five granddaughters, Hillary, Katy, Abigail, Amber, and Macy; one grandson, Ryan; one brother, Robert (Margaret) Loe, Dilworth, MN; and three sisters, Alice (Lyle) Peterson, Hendrum, Margaret (Gene) Brinkman, Littleton, CO, and Helen (Robert) Anderson, West Fargo, ND. Many special nieces, nephews and good friends also survive him. His father, mother, and a sister, Janice, preceded him in death.

Visitation: Tuesday, from 5:30 PM until 7:30 PM Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead.

Prayer service: Tuesday at 7:30 PM Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead.

Funeral service: Wednesday, March 24, 2004, at 2:30 PM Kirkebo Lutheran Church, Perley, MN.

Burial: Kirkebo Lutheran Cemetery, Perley, MN.

Norman Langseth

Norman C. Langseth, age 91, rural Glyndon, MN, died at his home on Monday, May 24, 2004.

Norman Clifford Langseth, the son of C. Martin and Martha (Seter) Langseth, was born at rural Glyndon, MN, on August 11, 1912. He grew up and received his education in the Glyndon area. Norman was baptized and confirmed at Glyndon Lutheran Church.

On March 15, 1936, Norman was married to Ruth Rosenquist, at Glyndon. They made their home in the Glyndon area, where they farmed until 1968. Norman worked for NSP, American Crystal Sugar and Midwest Excavating, until he retired in 1976.

Norman and Ruth spent 28 winters in Apache Junction, AZ.

Norman was preceded in death by his parents, a grandson, Steven Langseth; a great-grandson, Robert Langseth; a great-stepgrandson, Derek Pederson; a great-stepgranddaughter, Caitlyn Pederson; seven sisters; and three brothers.

Norman is survived by his wife, Ruth, Glyndon; two sons, Keith (Lorraine) Langseth, Glyndon, and Ellery (Eleanor) Langseth, Lake Park, MN; four daughters, Carol (Gordon) Ekre, Hawley, MN, Shirley (Larry) Swenson, Glyndon, Beverly (Allan) Gjersvig, Mesa, AZ, and Laurel (Ronald) Gerig, Saint Joseph, MI; five foster sons; a foster daughter; eighteen grandchildren; twenty-one great-grandchildren; and five great-stepgrandchildren; and five great-great-stepgrandchildren.

Visitation: Friday, from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM Maranatha Free Lutheran Church, Glyndon, MN.

Prayer Service: Friday at 7:00 PM Maranatha Free Lutheran Church, Glyndon

Funeral service: Saturday, May 29, 2004, at 11 AM Maranatha Free Lutheran Church, Glyndon

Karen Ann Kulzer

Karen Ann Kulzer, 55, Moorhead, MN, was surrounded by her loving family as she joined her Savior on February 23, 2004.

Karen was a loving and devoted wife and mother. Her grandchildren brought her much joy and laughter. Those who knew her understood that God and family came first. Her strong faith in God gave her the strength and courage to endure her long battle with cancer. Karen was a talented seamstress, enjoyed decorating her home and visiting with her friends. One of her proudest achievements was finishing the 500-mile CANDISC bike tour with her friends and husband in 1999. She was gifted with a beautiful voice and cherished her participation in the Church of the Nativity and St. Francis de Sales choirs.

Karen was born in Detroit Lakes, MN, to Kenneth and Adella Steffl on March 10, 1948. She graduated from Mahnomen High School in 1966 and Thief River Falls Technical College in 1968. She married Michael Joseph Kulzer on July 13, 1968, at Mahnomen. Karen and her family lived in Minot, ND, for many years where she worked as a secretary for the USAF Hospital. After moving to Fargo in 1995, she worked for the VA Hospital and retired in 2002.

She is survived by her beloved husband, Michael; her four daughters, Michelle (Randy) Ballensky, Ramsey, MN, Jennifer (Sean) Stephens, Grand Forks AFB, ND, Kristin (Michael) Deselich, Maple Grove, MN, Ruth Kulzer, Moorhead; her 6 grandchildren, Alexis, Alex, Jacob, Nathan, Lauren, and Luke. She is also survived by her parents, Kenneth and Adella Steffl, Larimore, ND, and three sisters, Paulette (David) Hubbard, Arvilla, ND, Linda (Don) Palmiscno, Grand Forks, ND, Pamela (Keith) Haake, Waite Park, MN; and three brothers, Brian (Heather) Steffl, Bismarck, ND, and Kevin (Cindy) Steffl and Jeff (Lisa) Steffl, both Vancouver, WA.

Visitation for Karen will be Friday, February 27, 2004, from 4 - 6 PM, with a prayer service at 6 PM, in St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, Moorhead. Funeral Mass will be Saturday, February 28, 2004, at 2 PM at the church. Burial will be held in Immaculate Conception Catholic Cemetery, Bejou, MN.

Paul P. Koenig

Paul P. Koenig, 94, Moorhead, MN, died Friday, February 6, 2004, at the Moorhead Healthcare Center, Moorhead.

Paul Peter Koenig, son of Frank and Emma (Liberty) Koenig, was born June 19, 1909, in Canby, MN. He attended school in Moorhead. From 1934 to 1939, Paul worked at the Fairmont Farm, Moorhead.

Paul was united in marriage to Cathaleen M. Jacobsen November 19, 1941, in Moorhead, MN, where they made their home.

He farmed with his father until 1946, at which time he started work at the Fairmont Creamery, Moorhead. Paul retired in 1975. After his retirement, he spent several years doing volunteer work at the Moorhead Senior Center and the Moorhead Healthcare Center. He was named the adult volunteer of the year in 1996. Paul enjoyed all sorts of ballgames and took in the Minnesota State Fair for 30 years. He liked playing pool at the Senior Center, and received several trophies. Paul enjoyed tour bus trips, dancing and playing cards. In addition to being a long time member of St. Francis De sales Catholic Church, Moorhead, Paul was a member of the Eagles, Moose and retired teamsters. He loved and enjoyed his family whom were very important to him.

Paul is survived by Cathaleen, his wife of 62 years; two brothers, Lawrence, Apple Valley, MN and Raymond (Nora), Osseo, MN; four sisters, Alvina Boder, Duluth, MN, Marcella Folden, Hawley, MN, Margaret Ehlke, Enumclaw, WA, and Bernice West, Stanwood, WA, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Victor and sisters, Loretta and Tillie.

In lieu of flowers, memorials of your choice or the Meditation Garden Fund of St. Francis de Sales Church, are preferred.

VISITATION: Monday, February 9, 2004 - 4 PM to 8 PM St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church Moorhead, MN

Ruth Kingsbury

Ruth Mary Young, daughter of James Young and Mary Larson Young, was born in Ashland, Wisconsin, on February 14, 1906.

Ruth was married to Cecil Richard Kingsbury in Minneapolis, MN, on July 20, 1923. Following their marriage, Ruth and Cecil lived in Minneapolis, and later in Columbia Heights, MN. Ruth enjoyed a 30 year career working for the Minneapolis branch of the Dayton Company. She retired in 1981.

After retirement, Cecil and Ruth moved to Naples, FL, where they enjoyed life together through their 75th wedding anniversary. Cecil died on August 24, 1998. Following his death, Ruth lived with her children when she wasn’t at her Naples address.

In April of 2003, Ruth moved to The Evergreens Assisted Living, and in December of 2003, she became a resident of Eventide Lutheran Home. Both residences are located in Moorhead, MN.

Ruth died at Eventide on January 19, 2004, at the age of 97.

She is survived by four children, Cecil R. (Babe) Kingsbury Jr., Houston, TX, Jean E. Scott, Buffalo, MN, James E. (Betty) Kingsbury, Orlando, FL, and Willis (LaVerne) Kingsbury, Moorhead, MN. Ruth is also survived by a sister, Marie (Richard) Zegland, Minneapolis, MN; 16 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and 17 great-great grandchildren.

A private memorial service will be held at the Kelly (Brian) Haugrud home to honor the memory of a beloved matriarch.

Roger R. Karls

Roger Roman Karls was born May 20, 1945, in St. Cloud, MN, to David and Mary (Gross) Karls. Roger was raised in Robbinsdale, MN, where he graduated from high school.

Roger continued his education at Moorhead (MN) State University where he received a bachelor’s degree in education. He received his master’s degree from NDSU, Fargo, ND, and then taught industrial arts at L.E. Berger Middle School, West Fargo, ND, from 1969 to 1991, when he took early retirement due to health concerns. Roger married Delayne Stadsvold in 1968.

Roger was a long-time member of the Fargo YMCA, where he devoted many hours to weight training. During the summer months, Roger could be found enjoying his lake home on Lake Ida, near Audubon, MN. Roger died Wednesday, June 9, 2004, in his home in Fargo, at fifty-nine years of age.

Roger is survived by his two children, Amy Karls of Houston, TX, and Jason Karls of St. Paul, MN, and their mother, Delayne of Fargo; one sister, Arlene (Donald) Vasquez, Minneapolis, MN; and one brother, Edward Karls, Minneapolis. His parents preceded him in death.

Visitation for Roger will be Friday, June 11, 2004, from 5 - 7 PM, with a prayer service at 7 PM, in Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead. Funeral Mass will be Saturday, June 12, 2004, at 10 AM, in Church of the Nativity, Fargo.
