Christopher J. Karau

Christopher J. Karau, age 26, of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, formerly of Moorhead, MN, died in Milwaukee on Thursday, March 18, 2004.

Christopher James Karau was born October 25, 1977 in Brooklyn, New York. He lived in Milwaukee, West Fargo, ND, Fargo, ND, Grenora, ND, Casselton, ND, and Barnesville, MN, before coming to Moorhead in 1989. He also spent one and a half years living in Milwaukee, and then returned to Moorhead, where he worked in concrete construction.

In October of 2003, Christopher returned to Milwaukee, where he worked for a property management company doing property restoration and repair.

Christopher is survived by a son, Devon James Karau, Milwaukee; his mother, Lola (Greg) Jensen, Moorhead; his father, Richard (Sue) Karau, Milwaukee; a brother, Michael Karau, Moorhead; two sisters, Melissa Karau, Moorhead, and Jaimie Jensen, Moorhead; and his grandmother, Carole (Marvin) Kildahl, Milwaukee.

Visitation: Monday, from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead, and one hour before the funeral, at the church.

Funeral service: Tuesday, March 23, 2004 at 2:00 PM Hope Lutheran Church, north campus Fargo, North Dakota.

Burial: North Buffalo Lutheran Cemetery, rural Kragnes, MN.

Donna F. Jacobson

Donna Fay Strommen, the daughter of Orville J. and Lily Mae (Forde) Strommen, was born Feb. 11, 1927, at Halstad, MN. She grew up and received her education in Halstad and in Fargo, ND, where she graduated from Fargo Central High School in 1945. As a young lady, she worked for Judge P. M. Paulsen at the Cass County (ND) courthouse.

On June 14, 1948, Donna was married to P. David Jacobson, at Olivet Lutheran Church in Fargo. Following their marriage, they made their home on a farm near Perley, MN. David died in 1986.

On July 1, 1990, Donna moved to Fargo to live. She was an avid bowler and was active in Hope Lutheran Church. Music was important to her. She had been a choir director, soloist, and organist, and had been a member of the Hope Lutheran Church Choir for ten years.

Donna Fay Jacobson died on Saturday, Jan. 17, 2004, at MeritCare Hospital in Fargo, at the age of 76. Donna was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and granddaughter, Michele Trandem.

She is survived by a daughter, Debra Jacobson, Perley; a son, Kent (Karen) Jacobson, Glyndon, MN; four brothers, John N. (Valorie) Strommen, Ridgecrest, CA, Richard D. (Ann) Strommen, Albuquerque, NM, Paul E. (Sharon) Strommen, Coon Rapids, MN, and Gordon L. (Pat) Strommen, Fargo; two grandchildren, Tammy (David) Keenan and Heather Trandem; and two great-grandchildren, Kristin and Alyssa Keenan.

Visitation: Tuesday, from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead.

Funeral service: Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2004, at 11:00 AM Hope Lutheran Church, north campus Fargo, North Dakota

Burial: Bethania Lutheran Cemetery, Perley, MN.

Donald Honl

Donald W. Honl, age 71, Moorhead, MN, died Thursday, April 15, 2004, after a year long battle with cancer, at MeritCare Hospital South University, Fargo, ND.

Donald was born June 2, 1932, rural Lidgerwood, ND, to Joseph and Anna (Hejtmanek) Honl. He grew up on the family farm and attended and graduated from Lidgerwood High School in 1949. He helped his brother farm until 1952, when Donald entered the US Army. He served overseas in Korea and was discharged in 1954, after which he returned to Lidgerwood. Donald played independent baseball, both before and after his military service. Donald moved to St. Paul, MN, where he worked for the US Postal Service. On June 25, 1960, Donald was united in marriage to Magdalen Lange at St. Boniface Catholic Church, Lidgerwood. They lived in Minneapolis, MN, until August of 1960, when they moved to Moorhead. Donald transferred to the Fargo Post Office where he worked until he retired in 1991.

After his retirement, Donald worked at Hawley (MN) Golf and Country Club and seasonally for American Crystal Sugar at their piling stations in Felton, MN, and Glyndon, MN. His hobbies were golfing, working with wood and solving puzzles. The couple wintered in Arizona and Donald played softball. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church for 41 years, the Knights of Columbus, and the American Legion.

Donald is survived by his wife, Magdalen, Moorhead; two sons, Douglas (Lenora), Moorhead, and Bradley (Sonja), Eagan, MN; five brothers, LaVerne (Glenda), Lidgerwood, Harold of Fargo, ElRoy (Jeannie) Columbia Heights, MN, Gene of North Branch, MN, and Larry (Penny), Eau Claire, WI; four sisters, Junette (Donald) Willprecht, Wahpeton, ND, Barbara (Roger) Buske, North Branch, Betty Honl, Minneapolis, and Connie (David) Hansen, Duluth, MN; a sister-in-law, Norma Honl, Lidgerwood; and two grandsons, Cole and Calvin. Donald was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Andrew; and a sister-in-law, Janice Honl.

Visitation: Sunday, from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM, Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead.

Prayer service: Sunday at 7:00 PM, Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead.

Funeral service: Monday, April 19, 2004, at 10:30 AM, St. Joseph Catholic Church, Moorhead.

Burial: St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery, Moorhead.

Harold Holm

O. Harold Holm, Moorhead, MN, died Sunday, May 30, 2004, at Innovis Health, Fargo, ND, at the age of 85.

Obert Harold Holm was born July 24, 1918, near Halstad, MN, to Clarence and Ida (Aalgaard) Holm. Harold was baptized and confirmed at Augustana Lutheran Church, rural Halstad. He attended Foss School, also rural Halstad.

Harold was united in marriage to Alma M. Johnson, daughter of George and Olga (Engen) Johnson, November 25, 1939, in Shelly, MN. They had one daughter, Karen.

Harold worked for Wiese Equipment, Halstad, hauled milk for Shelly Creamery, and drove a school bus for Halstad High School. In 1953, he started working for Anderson Pontiac in Moorhead. He retired in 1980 after 27 years. He as a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Moorhead, Teamster’s Local #116, Fargo, and the Kringen Lodge #25 of the Sons of Norway, Fargo.

Harold is survived by his wife of 64 years, Alma, Moorhead; daughter Karen (Gary) Justus, Raleigh, NC; two grandchildren, Andrea (Matt) Arens and Matthew (Carolyn) Justus, both of Columbus, OH; two great- grandchildren, Jessica and Justin Arens; one sister, Muriel Meland, Grand Forks, ND; and one brother, Lowell (Carol) Holm, Fargo.

Visitation: Thursday, 4 to 8 PM, Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead

Pastor Milton Hoag

Pastor Milton V. Hoag, age 74, rural Moorhead, MN, died at his home on Monday, January 26, 2004.

Milton Veeder Hoag was born at Harwood, ND, on January 16, 1930. He grew up and went to school in the Harwood area. As a young man, he lived and worked in New York State. He attended North Central Bible College in Minneapolis, MN. After finishing Bible college, he traveled in the state of Kansas as an evangelist.

On October 9, 1950, Pastor Hoag was married to Alice Evon Hayes at Downs, Kansas. Following their marriage, they lived in Silverton, CO, where he was pastor at a local church. After a year, the family made their home in Downs, where Milton became a truck driver. They later lived in Hastings, Nebraska, where Milton worked both as a truck driver and an evangelist.

In 1960 the family moved to Fargo, ND, and in 1963 to rural Moorhead where Pastor Hoag continued as a truck driver and an evangelist. In 1982 he was instrumental in the founding of “Gospel Road USA”. He retired from truck driving in 1994.

Pastor Milton Hoag is survived by his wife, Alice, Moorhead; three daughters, Virginia Demmer, Rollag, MN, Pamela (Floyd) Guest, Comstock, MN, and Roxanna (Curtis J.) Lauinger, Fargo; three sons, Milton (Connie) Hoag Jr., Emporia, KS, Thomas (Sharon) Hoag, Mapleton, ND, and Timothy (Debra) Hoag, Hawley, MN; his mother, Mildred Hoag, Fargo; two sisters, Virginia (Walter) Vleck, Buxton, ND, and Marilyn (Marvin) Gunnerson, Havre, MT; twenty grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Visitation: Friday, from 3:00 PM until 8:00 PM Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead, and one hour before the funeral, at the church

Service of sharing: Friday at 3:00 PM Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead.

Funeral service: Saturday, January 31, 2004, at 2:00 PM First Assembly of God, Fargo, ND

Burial: Oakwood Cemetery, Harwood, ND.

Harold J. Hanson

Harold J. Hanson, 84, Moorhead, MN (formerly Sabin, MN) died peacefully with his family at his side on Friday, March 5, 2004 at Eventide Lutheran Home in Moorhead.

Harold was born September 14, 1919, to John and Josephine (Hendrickson) Hanson, in Cooperstown, ND. He moved with his family to Fargo, ND where he graduated from Fargo Central High School and went on to attend business college.

During WW II, Harold served our country as a sergeant in the Army Air Force in the Panama Canal. While on leave from duty in the Panama Canal, he married Florence Kuehl on October 7, 1944 in Sabin, MN. After his military discharge, they returned to Sabin, MN and Harold began his career working for Knight Printing Company in Fargo. Harold’s talents as a bookbinder mystified everyone. He could sew the tattered and torn signatures of books that were dropped off in his care by sentimental customers, giving the books new life and meaning. After many years of dedication, Harold retired in 1990.

Harold was preceded in death by his parents, John and Josephine Hanson, brother Roy, and sister Doris.

Harold is survived by his wife Florence; two sons, Terry (Susan) Naperville, IL, and Chris (Lee Anne) Moorhead, MN; one daughter Mary Beth, Bloomington, MN; two granddaughters; Kirsten, San Diego, CA, and Laura, Moorhead, MN; four grandsons; Kevin, Seattle, WA, Ryan, Chicago, IL, Bo, Naperville, IL, and Nick, Moorhead, MN; one sister, Mae Elaine (Vernon) Cullen; and one brother, Gordon (Betty) both of Fargo, ND and nieces and nephews.

The visitation is Tuesday from 5 to 8 with a prayer service at 7:30 at Korsmo Funeral Chapel in Moorhead.

Mass of Christian Burial at St. Cecilia’s Catholic Church, Sabin, MN at 11 AM on Wednesday, March 10, 2004.

Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery, Sabin, MN.

Lloyd R. Hanson

Lloyd R. Hanson, age 88, of Moorhead, MN, died Thursday, May 20, 2004, at Eventide Lutheran Home in Moorhead.

Lloyd R. Hanson, the son of Alvin and Clara (Edmunds) Hanson, was born at Shelly, MN, on May 2, 1916. He grew up in Shelly and graduated from Climax (MN) high school in 1934. As a young man he worked as a meat cutter at a store in Halstad, MN. On Jan. 22, 1942, Lloyd entered the US Army. He served as a medic in the Pacific Theatre of war, and received the Purple Heart, for being wounded in action. After his discharge, he returned to the upper Midwest, where he worked as a meat cutter for Red Owl, in a number of their stores across the area.

On November 27, 1947, Lloyd was united in marriage to Berniece Brummond, in Breckenridge, MN. They made their home in Valley City, ND, where Lloyd, together with two partners, owned and operated J & L Super Valu.

In 1975, Lloyd retired, and he and Berniece moved to Moorhead, MN, where they have lived since. Lloyd enjoyed duck and pheasant hunting, and fishing. In March of 2004, Lloyd became a resident of Eventide Lutheran Home.

He is survived by his wife, Berniece, Moorhead; a daughter, Rennae (Edmund) Gruchalla, Fargo, ND; a son, Paul (Karen) Hanson, Whitefish Bay, Wisconsin; and four grandchildren, Matthew, Michael and Kathryn Gruchalla and Eleanor Hanson.

Lloyd was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Genevieve Nystrom and Pearl Ferris.

Visitation: Monday, one hour prior to the funeral.

Funeral service: Monday, May 24, 2004, at 1 PM, Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead, MN.

Burial: Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, Hankinson, ND.
