Ernest H. Foss

Ernest H. Foss Sr., age 87, formerly of Glyndon, MN, and Moorhead, MN, died Friday, March 17, 2006, at Sunnyside Care Center, rural Lake Park, MN

Ernest Henry Foss, the son of Henry and Anne (Greening) Foss, was born April 24, 1918 in Fargo, ND. He grew up and received his education in the Glyndon area, where he lived and worked on local farms. Ernest lived in the state of Washington for a short period of time.

In 1987, he became a resident of Eventide The Fairmont in Moorhead, MN. He later lived at Moorhead Health Care Center. In 1999, Ernest became a resident of Sunnyside Care Center, rural Lake Park, MN.

Ernest is survived by a daughter, Mona (Phillip) Robley, Moorhead; three sons, Ernest (Georgia) Foss Jr. Mt. Vernon, Iowa, Edward (Diane) Foss, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Duane (Tina) Foss, Armuchee, Georgia; a step-son, Albert Adams, Huntley, Montana; 8 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Ernest was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and a great-granddaughter.

Visitation: Tuesday, 5 PM to 7 PM, Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead, MN.

Funeral service: Wednesday, March 22, 2006, at 11 AM, Glyndon Lutheran Church, Glyndon, MN.

Burial: Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, Sabin, MN.

Lorraine A. Halvorson

Lorraine A. Halvorson, 78, Moorhead, MN, formerly of Minot, ND, died Wednesday, March 15, 2006, in Manorcare Health Services, Fargo, ND.

Lorraine Adealia Daniell was born July 1, 1927, in Van Hook, ND. She was raised in Van Hook where she attended school and the family later moved to Minot. Lorraine married Gilmore “Happy” Halvorson, in 1948, in Minot. She owned and operated Lorraine’s Beauty Bar, in Minot.

Lorraine and Happy moved to Las Vegas, NV, in 1995 and he died in 2004. She and her daughter moved to Moorhead, in 2005, to be closer to her granddaughter and great-grandchildren.

Lorraine is survived by her daughter, Michelle Edwdards, Moorhead; one granddaughter, Nicole (Jon); and two great-grandchildren, Dustin and Taylor.

Private family services have been held.

Robert A. Deschamp

Robert (Bob) Anthony Deschamp “Disco Bob”, 59, Moorhead, MN, died Monday, March 13, 2006, in MeritCare Hospital, Fargo, ND.

Bob was born July 29, 1946, the son of the late Edgar Deschamp and Irene Deschamp, in Westhope, ND. He was reared and educated in Westhope, graduating from Westhope High School in 1964. Following his graduation, he attended the State School of Forestry in Bottineau, ND, for two years. He then attended North Dakota State University, Fargo and graduated with a degree in Agriculture Economics.

Bob was married to Marlene Thompson and from this union they had two daughters, Sarah and Andrea. Bob worked for the Ford dealership in Valley City, ND, and Red River Grain, Fargo, for many years. He was also a salesman for Trigg Trailers. Bob won many trips and received many awards as outstanding salesperson. He was recently employed at G.P.K., Fargo.

When Bob was in high school he was very interested in 4-H projects. He raised many registered shorthorn beef cattle, Suffolk sheep, and rabbits of many breeds, and sold them to grocery stores in Minot, ND. He showed his animals at the county and state fair and won many ribbons. He was selected to represent Bottineau County in the seed and animal judging team in Fargo. He was also honored as an outstanding 4-H member of Bottineau County. Bob was an avid hunter and he conducted many hunting trips to Montana. He was interested in big game hunting.

Bob is survived by his two daughters, Sarah and Andrea, both of Fargo; his former wife, Marlene; his mother, Irene, Minot; his sisters, Karen Bergstad, Bismarck, ND, Peggy Brudwick, Fargo, and Diane (Chub) Olson, Moorhead; his friend, Toni, Moorhead; and many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Edgar; and his grandparents.

A visitation and prayer service was held on Tuesday at Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead.

The funeral mass is today, Wednesday, March 15, 2006, at 11 AM in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Moorhead. Inurnment will take place at Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot.

Memorials may be sent to the Roger Maris Cancer Center in memory of Bob.

Dr. Roger M. Cocking

Dr. Roger M. Cocking, 93, Sunburg, MN, formerly of Glyndon, MN, died Sunday, March 12, 2006, in Rice Memorial Hospital, Willmar, MN.

Roger Milton Cocking was born January 15, 1913, to Joseph L. and Katharine S. (Haltmeyer) Cocking in Manchester, IA, where he grew up and graduated from high school. Roger then attended Iowa State University, Ames, IA, and graduated with a degree in veterinary medicine. He returned to Manchester where he practiced veterinary medicine until the fall of 1934, when he moved back to Ames to teach at the University.

On July 14, 1934, Roger married Dorothy Brownbridge in Des Moines, IA. They lived in Ames for three years. In 1951, they moved to Colorado Springs, CO, where Roger was a veterinarian and where they were involved with the “Christian Home for Children”. In 1967, Roger retired and they moved several times because Roger worked as a traveling preacher. They eventually settled in Glydon in 1980.

Dorothy died on December 15, 1986, and Roger continued to live in Glyndon until 1990, when he moved to Sunburg to live with family.

Roger is survived by two sons, Paul (Anne) Cocking, Fort Collins, CO, and Dr. Jim (Carla) Cocking, Guatemala; two daughters, Dorothy (David) Van Hal, Sunburg, and Elizabeth Hathaway, Colorado Springs, CO; a sister, Jessie Edquist, Edina, MN; eleven grandchildren, Ruth Cocking, Seth (Terry) Cocking, John (Martha) Fowler, Sarah, Cocking, Chris (Letabeth) Van Hal, Eric (Jennifer) Wiinanen, Peter Van Hal, Nate (Lisa) Hathaway, Barry Hathaway, Andrew Cocking, and Adam Cocking; and twelve great-grandchildren, Rebecca Van Hal, Micah Van Hal, Isaac Wiinanen, Josiah Wiinanen, Noah Wiinanen, Benjamin Wiinanen, Abigail Hathaway, Elijah, Hathaway, Benjamin Hathaway, Anna Fowler, Abigail Fowler, and Meghan Cocking.

Memorial Service: Saturday, March 18, 2006 at 2 PM, Meadow Ridge Bible Chapel, West Fargo, ND

Burial: Riverside Cemetery, Glyndon

Pearl MacLeod

Pearl MacLeod, age 88, Moorhead, MN, died at Eventide Lutheran Home in Moorhead, on Friday, March 10, 2006.

Pearl Madeline Gulbransen was born at Hutchinson, MN, on October 2, 1917. She grew up and received her education in Hutchinson, where she graduated from high school. As a young lady she moved to California, where she was married on June 17, 1944, to Everett R. MacLeod.

Following their marriage, they lived in Florida, New Bedford, MA, and Hutchinson. In 1956, they made their home in Dilworth, MN, and in 1960, they moved to Moorhead. Pearl was an Avon sales representative for many years. She was also an active volunteer, both in her community and in her church. Her husband, Everett, died on July 18, 1981.

After his death, Pearl lived in Hutchinson for about a year, and then returned to Moorhead, where she had lived since. She had been a resident of Eventide The Fairmont for a number of years, and since 1998, a resident of Eventide Lutheran Home.

Pearl is survived by her daughter, Toni (Wilfred) Lindquist, Aurora, CO; two sons, Kent (Cindy) MacLeod, Moorhead, and Peter MacLeod, Orange Park, FL; five grandchildren, Travis, Jamie and Craig MacLeod, Christine McMillin and Christopher Lindquist; and four great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Clarice and Dorothy; and a brother, Ray.

Memorial service: Wednesday, March 15, 2006, at 2 PM, Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead, MN

Andrew Hanson

Andrew H. Hanson, 77, of Moorhead, MN, died Thursday, March 9, 2006, at Innovis Health in Fargo, ND.

Andrew H. Hanson, son of Helmer and Oline (Wibe) Hanson, was born March 7, 1929, at rural Pelican Rapids, MN. He grew up in the Pelican Rapids area and received his education there and graduated from high school in Pelican Rapids.

Andrew served his country in the US Army from 1951 to 1953. He served overseas in Germany. After his discharge, he returned to Pelican Rapids, where he owned and operated a Standard Oil service station in the 1960s. Andrew later went to work for the Minnesota Highway Department, where he worked for 26 years. Andrew served as a member of the Pelican Rapids Volunteer Fire Department for many years.

On August 20, 1976, Andrew was united in marriage to Shirley Koester Adams in Glyndon, MN, where they made their home. In 1993, they moved to Moorhead, MN. In 1991, Andrew retired from the highway department, and started to work part-time for the Fargo Parking Service.

Andrew was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Pelican Rapids, Glyndon Lutheran Church in Glyndon, and Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd in Moorhead, where he enjoyed attending the men’s Bible study group.

Andrew was an avid sports fan, especially the Minnesota Twins and Vikings. He enjoyed playing cards with family and friends, golfing, hunting, and visiting people.

Andrew is survived by his wife, Shirley, Moorhead; four stepchildren, Colleen (Alan) Fuller, Williston, ND, David (Donna) Adams, Medora, ND, Shelly Weishoff, Ray, ND, and Holly (Chaney) Stotts, Caldwell, Idaho; a brother, Orville (Gail) Hanson, Moorhead; a sister, Norma Rust, Pelican Rapids, MN; and eight grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Ruth.

Visitation: Sunday, from 3:00 PM until 5:00 PM, Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead, and one hour before the funeral, at the church.

Funeral service: Monday, March 13, 2006, at 2:00 PM. Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, Moorhead, Minnesota

LaVonne A. Frederickson

During a brief battle with the flu while healing from surgery, LaVonne Frederickson, 79, died at Manor Care Health Services of Fargo, ND, on the morning of Monday, March 6, 2006.

LaVonne was born on October 10, 1926, to Louis E. and Inez L. (Buck) Westling in Malmo, MN, on the northeastern side of Mille Lacs Lake. She was the youngest of three children.

During LaVonne’s childhood, the Westling family moved to Isle, MN, on the southeastern side of Mille Lacs Lake. There she met and eventually married Loel Dean Frederickson, the son of the town druggist, on January 2, 1947. Later that year, their first child, Gail, was born. Other children were Mark, born in 1952, and Todd (Yahya), born in 1962.

Loel’s job opportunities moved the family from Isle, MN, to Carthage, IL, Davenport, IA, and finally in 1956, to Moorhead, MN. Wherever they moved, LaVonne continued her roles of homemaker, wife and mother. For fifty summers, the family retreated to their cabin on Wabedo Lake, near Longville, MN, for rest, relaxation, and fun.

LaVonne’s interests and service centered on family and church. She was a wonderful homemaker, cook, gardener, seamstress, quilter, crafter, and crossword puzzle enthusiast. In addition to volunteering for Campfire Girls, Boy Scouts, and the American Cancer Society, she also participated in women’s groups at Moorhead State College (now Minnesota State University, Moorhead) and at the First Congregational United Church of Christ of Moorhead, bringing her creative talent for making crafts to the annual Christmas bazaar.

LaVonne was preceded in death by her brother, Glenn; her sister, Lorraine; and her parents. Surviving are her husband, Loel; three children, Gail, Mark, and Todd (Yahya); daughter-in-law, Fathia; and twin grandchildren, Ama and Abdu.

A Memorial Service followed by a light lunch will be held at First Congregational United Church of Christ of Moorhead at 11 AM on Friday, March 10, 2006.
