Winifred "Winnie" J. Borgen
Winifred Janet Borgen passed away peacefully in her Felton, MN, home on Saturday evening, December 10, 2005, at the age of eighty-seven.
Winifred was born to Julia (Krostad) and Walter Winfred Wegner in Perley, MN, on February 24, 1918. They moved to Cavalier, ND, in 1928. In 1935, they moved to Bottineau, ND, where Winnie graduated from high school. In 1938, she met Vernon R. Borgen and they were married on October 24, 1940. They farmed in Borup, MN, from 1940 to 1955. In 1948, V.R. and Winnie were blessed with their son, Robert Lynn Borgen.
In 1955, V.R. and Winnie moved Felton and they helped V.R.’s mother manage Felton Telephone. Winnie was a switchboard operator for about five years until the company updated to an automatic switchboard.
After the death of her husband, Winnie enjoyed traveling abroad, shopping, crafts, and sewing. Winnie was lovingly cared for 24 hours a day by her granddaughter, Michelle Kawlewski, for the past year and a half.
In addition to her husband, Winnie was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Bernice Maxine Wegner; a brother, Franklyn Jerome “Bud” Wegner; and a grandson, Scott Borgen.
She is survived by her son, Robert (Gay) Borgen; grandchildren, Bradley (Jody) Borgen, Chad (Heidi) Borgen, Marty (Amy) Kawlewski, Michelle Kawlewski, Mark Kawlewski, and Melissa (Cyril) Genoch; great-grandchildren, Blake Scott Borgen, Ashley, Jonathon, Jordon, Jesse, Keagan, Garret, Tyler, Brady, Rebekah, Gretchen and Emily; one cousin, Audrey Omoth; and David Warner, a longtime family friend.

Helen I. Bjorndahl
Helen I. Bjorndahl, 92, Moorhead, MN, died Saturday, July 23, 2005, in Moorhead Healthcare Center, Moorhead.
Helen Inez Bjorndahl was born on February 1, 1913, to Henry and Amanda Peterson, in Audubon, MN, and was raised on the family farm south of Audubon. Helen attended grade school in Lake Center, MN, and graduated from Audubon High School.
Helen married Nilmer E. Bjorndahl, on June 27, 1937, in Audubon, and they lived and farmed south of Hawley, MN. They moved to Moorhead in 1945, where Helen worked as a dietician at St. Ansgar Hospital.
Nilmer died May 24, 1986, and Helen continued to make her home in Moorhead.
Helen is survived by her three sons, Neil (Dora), Agua Dulce, CA, Glenn (Mary), Greenwell Springs, LA, and Erling (Erlis), Hawley; nine grandchildren; and seventeen great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, Helen was preceded in death by a son, David; a grandson, Christopher; three sisters and two brothers.

Funeral: Tuesday, July 26, 2005; 2 PM in Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Moorhead.

Lois J. Bergeson
Lois Jean Shelley was born December 2, 1925, in Willmar, MN, to George and Irene (Hoard) Shelley. Lois grew up in Willmar where she graduated from high school.
After high school, Lois worked in a bakery where she met her future husband, Lloyd Bergeson. Lloyd often recalled “I met my Sweetie in a sweet shop.” On April 10, 1948, Lois and Lloyd were joined in marriage at the First Presbyterian Church in Willmar. Together they raised three children, Steve, Cindi and David, and they settled in Moorhead, MN, in 1965.
Lois was a homemaker and worked several years as a lunch server at South Junior High School. She was a Campfire leader and an active member of several groups, including The Grey Ladies, Quilters, Sewing Club, and Homemakers. Later in life, Lois took to volunteer work at several nursing homes in Moorhead, including Eventide Lutheran Home and Bethany Homes in Fargo, ND. Lois also taught Sunday school at Our Savior's Lutheran Church.
Lois loved to travel, covering all fifty states and over twenty countries abroad with Lloyd in their fifty-seven years of marriage. Lois and Lloyd would spend the winter months in Mesa, AZ, with their fellow “Snowbirds.” Summers were spent at their cabin on Pelican Lake, MN, where Lois would garden, fish, play cards and go “garage saling.” Her love of the lake was matched only by her love of family and friends. Those she touched will not forget her kind and thoughtful deeds. Lois entered eternal life Thursday, December 15, 2005, surrounded by her loving family, at her home in Moorhead.
Lois is survived by her devoted husband, Lloyd; a daughter, Cindi Brandon, Paragould, AR; two sons, Steven (Susan) Bergeson, Edina, MN, and David (Natalie) Bergeson, West Hollywood, CA; four grandchildren, Jason Bjorndahl, Andrea Bergeson Stoesz, Joshua Jelks, and Kristen K. Kokal; and a brother, George P. Shelley, Willmar.
A gathering of friends will be Tuesday, December 20, 2005, from 5 - 7 PM, with a prayer service at 7 PM, in Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead. A memorial service will be Wednesday, December 21, 2005, at 11 AM, in Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Moorhead.
Lloyd and his family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude and appreciation to their caregivers at Hospice of the Red River Valley, as well as their numerous friends and neighbors that offered assistance during this difficult time. It will always be appreciated.
Agnes Berg
Agnes Georgia Berg, 92, passed away Friday after a short illness. She was surrounded by family as she peacefully went to be with the Lord.
Agnes was born on August 2, 1913, minutes before her twin Adelyne in Pelican Rapids, MN. Agnes, a second generation Norwegian, grew up in the rural Pelican Rapids area and graduated from grade school in 1929. Agnes and her sister moved to Moorhead at the age of 16 and continued to live together for most of their lives. Agnes worked as a nurse for Dr. J.W. Duncan in Moorhead, usually working 6 days per week, until she retired. Agnes and her sister were active members of “The Camera Club” in Moorhead as well as the Soroptimist club, and education and politics were a passion for them both. They were members of Trinity Lutheran Church in Moorhead since 1988, where they belonged to the Anna circle.
Agnes lived life to the fullest, and even lived in her own home on her own terms until a hip fracture made it too difficult. It was her intention to return home after her hip healed. Although Agnes didn’t marry or have children of her own, she was actively involved in her nieces and nephews lives. She cherished every moment spent with her extended family.
She is survived by 12 nieces and nephews, 30 great nieces and nephews, and 26 great-great nieces and nephews. Agnes was the last of her generation of the Berg family. She was preceded into death by her parents, Ole and Ida Berg; two sisters; Eveline Silverberg (1994) and Adelyne (2002); and four brothers; Marvin (1981), Richard (1986), Lawrence (1995), and Orville (10/14/2005).
Agnes was a devoted, caring and giving person who loved her family dearly, and lived life to its fullest. She will be missed by all who knew her.
A public visitation will be held Tuesday, November 1, from 4-7 PM at Korsmo Funeral Chapel in Moorhead with a prayer service at 6 PM.
Her funeral will be Wednesday November 2, at 11 AM in Trinity Lutheran Church in Moorhead
Violet M. Berg
Violet May Bulson was born May 15, 1923, to Elijah and Johanna (Schow) Bulson in Twin Valley, MN, where she grew up and graduated from high school.
On August 27, 1944, Violet married Tilford Berg in Twin Valley where they made their home. Violet and Tilford farmed in the Syre, MN, area until they moved to Moorhead, MN, in 1953. Violet worked for various families as a day care provider.
Violet and Tilford became residents of Moorhead Health Care in 1998, and Tilford died on March 31, 2000. Violet died Saturday, July 23, 2005, in Moorhead Health Care Center at the age of eighty-two.
Violet enjoyed watching the news and discussing politics, as she was a staunch Democrat. She loved children, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Violet was the center of the family and having the family get together was very important to her.
Violet is survived by a daughter, Cheryl Moen, Detroit Lakes, MN; a son, Gary (Renee) Berg, Moorhead; four grandchildren, Brad (Sara) Moen, Jill (Daniel) Gowens, Mark (Rebecca) Berg, and Kristin Berg; and eight great-grandchildren, Deanna, Alycia, Lindsey, and Abigail Moen, Zachariah, Jaycie, and Kaylie Gowens, and Marissa Berg.
In addition to her husband, Violet was preceded in death by four brothers, seven sisters, and a son-in-law, Richard Moen.

Leo W. Behrens
Leo W. Behrens, 79, Moorhead, MN, died Sunday, April 3, 2005, in his home.
Leo was born May 24, 1925, in Paullina, IA. He grew up, attended school and farmed in the Paullina and Calumet, IA, area.
On November 15, 1945, Leo joined the Air Force, serving in WWII for two years. On August 27, 1948, he married Norma Martin. He went to work for the National Weather Service in Omaha, NE.
In 1966, they moved to Point Barrow, AK, and from there they moved to Rapid City, SD, where they were during the 1972 flood. They then moved back to Bennington, NE, and eventually settled in Barnesville, MN. Norma passed away on March 2, 1990. On September 1, 1990, Leo married Carol Crossley of north Moorhead, where they lived until his death.
Leo is survived by his wife, Carol, Moorhead; his children, Diane (Fred) Behrens, Omaha, David (Fran) Behrens, Moorhead, and Sharon (Tom) Poach, Moorhead; a daughter-in-law, Donna Behrens, Fargo, ND; stepchildren, Mark (Darlene) Crossley, Fredricksburg, VA, Chuck (Kate) Crossley, Moorhead, and Lisa (Pat) Rerick, Mapleton, ND; grandchildren, Terry Behrens, Sean Kooren, and Trevor Poach; stepgrandchildren, David Goodwin, Jennifer, Amber, Jacob, Adam, Matthew, and Jessy; and two great-grandchildren, Emma and Alexis.
In addition to his first wife Norma, he was preceded in death by his parents, Emil and Emma Behrens; a son, Keith; and a sister, Leona Peterson.
