Evald Titrud

Evald Woodrow Titrud passed away at the Cokato Manor on June 16, 2003.
He was born in Stockholm Township on July 12, 1915 to Emil and Emma (Grundahl) Titrud. He grew up on the farm in Stockholm Township and attended Stockholm School. He was baptized and confirmed by Rev. Swan Johnson.
On September 2, 1944 he married Esther Sandquist. The union was blessed with two children.
Evald farmed his entire life in Stockholm Township. Woodrow was involved in many activities, including Stockholm Lutheran Church Board, Cokato Clinic Board, the Holstein Association, the Farm Bureau, Stockholm township, local schools, the creamery, the Cokato Manor, and the Cokato Museum. He enjoyed all of his hobbies and things associated with the Museum.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Emil and Emma. He is survived by his wife Esther; sisters Doris (Harry) Settergren of Dassel, Clarine (John) Wingard of Champlin and their families; son Edward Lee (Rebecca) of Stockholm; daughter Anne (Gregory) Isaackson of Cottonwood, Minn.; grandchildren Jessica (Stephen) Tesch of Silver Lake, Heather (Shawn) Orton of Cokato, Sarah Titrud of Stockholm, Adam Isaackson of Dayton, Ohio, Emmy Isaackson of Cottonwood; great grandchildren Jake, Julia and Amanda Tesch, Isaiah and Benjamin Orton.
Services were conducted Thursday, June 19, 11 a.m. at Stockholm Lutheran Church, officiated by Rev. Charles Anderson and Rev. Paul Settergren. Music was provided by organist Eleanor Sandquist and vocalist Curtis Grundahl.
Casket bearers were: Paul Settergren, Donald Settergren, David Settergren, Peter Settergren, John Wingard Jr., Tom Wingard, Mike Wingard, and Karla Miller.

Vera Strait

The Strait family, mostly in Pennsylvania, but now also in Buffalo, lost someone very special on Saturday, June 21, 2003. "Great Grandma" Vera Strait, born on February 27, 1909, passed away peacefully in her home of nearly 70 years in the company of her dear friend, Goldie Mellott, niece Madeline Ulsh, and loving daughter, Janey Carmack.
"Aunt Janey" made Great Grandma's wish come true, to live out her life in her home, enjoying her three surviving children, Mae, Perry and Janey, her sister Dot Clevenger, her 21 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren, and 9 great, great-grandchildren. Her home and her heart were always filled with the pictures of the people she cherished. She never let life get her down. She always knew when your birthday came (well, everything about you) with a warm smile, twinkling eyes, and a bit of mischief for spice. She always seemed to know you would be hungry for something she had made especially for you.
She was preceded in passing by her husband, four sons, a daughter, and two great-grandsons. For Kelly, Megan, Ryan and Dave, she set a great example of how to live life with a laugh and tender care for tender hearts.
"We can only strive to do our best and truly live life. That's all she ever asked from us. That and cherish all the wonderful memories she left behind. We'll always miss her and know she'll always give us her great smile whenever we need it, " said Dave Strait of Buffalo.
"Endings and new beginnings, with a lot of sadness, but joyful about where she is now, " he concluded.
Services were held in Pennsylvania.

Stanley Hozempa

Stanley Frank Hozempa, 89 of Maple Plain, formerly of Marshall, Minn., and NE Minneapolis, Minn. died on Saturday, June 21, 2003, at Haven Homes in Maple Plain, Minn.
Stanley, son of John and and Katherine (Kuz) Hozempa, was born on December 11, 1913 in Minneapolis.
He was preceded in death by wives Ann (Altendorf) and Margaret (Racette); daughter and son-in-law Dorothy and James Jolicoeur; and four brothers.
Stanley is survived by daughters Joan and Bob Andrescik, Pat and Dick Klaers; son Don and Dixie Hozempa; 14 grandchildren Anne Grothe, Paul Klaers, Amy Werlein, Josh Klaers, and Joe Klaers, children of Pat and Dick Klaers, David Jolicoeur, Jen Munson, Jason Jolicoeur, and Jeremy Jolicoeur, children of Dorothy and James Jolicoeur, Kelly Seastrom, Jamie Hozempa, Mike Hozempa, children of Don and Dixie Hozempa, Becky McCallister, Rob Andrescik, children of Joan and Bob Andrescik; 10 great grandchildren Sadie Werlein, Ellie Werlein, Samantha Seastrom, Taylor Seastrom, Noah Grothe, Grace Grothe, Logan Klaers, Tia Klaers, Zach Hozempa, and Dillon McCallister; sister Phyllis Bouck, and special care giving neighbors Tom, Phyllis, Cassie and Kim Scholtes.
Visitation was held from 1 to 3 p.m. on Friday, June 27 at SS. Peter and Paul Parish Center in Loretto.
Mass of Christian Burial was held at 3:30 p.m. Friday, June 27 at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Loretto with Rev. Brian Fier officiating.
Interment was in SS. Peter and Paul Cemetery in Loretto. Pallbearers were Paul Klaers, Joshua Klaers, Joseph Klaers, David Jolicoeur, Jason Jolicoeur, Jeremy Jolicoeur, Jamie Hozempa, Mike Hozempa, and Rob Andrescik. Honorary pallbearers were Dillon McCallister, Logan Klaers, Noah Grothe and Zach Hozempa.

Betty Mae Benson

Betty Mae Benson, 72 of Minneapolis, formerly of Maple Lake, passed away peacefully Tuesday, July 29, 2003 with her children by her side, after a courageous battle with cancer.
She was born on January 10, 1931 in Albion Township, Wright County, the daughter of Herbert F. and Meta Wandersee Zander.
Betty was baptized and confirmed at the Evangelical and Reformed Church of Albion and Maple Lake, now the Bethlehem United Church of Christ.
She graduated from Maple Lake High School and earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English from St. Cloud State University. Betty went on to teach at Hannon Country School, District #62 (a mile and a half from the home farm). She eventually moved to the Minneapolis area and lived there for forty plus years. Betty was employed for many years at the Radisson Hotel in both Minneapolis and St. Paul.
She was a faithful member of the Salem English Lutheran Church in Minneapolis.
A beloved and cherished mother, grandmother, sister and friend to those she has touched in seventy-two years. Her life was a love for her church, family and many animal friends.
She had a great enthusiasm for life and will be deeply missed by her children Michael and Vicky (Brian) Zumberge; grandchildren Troy and Kristin; a brother James (Joanne) Zander; many nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Preceded in death by her parents Herbert Fritz Zander on February 19, 1972 and Meta Wandersee Zander on September 24, 1997, a brother Douglas John Zander on October 13, 1948 and a sister Jerine Fedor on August 2, 2000.
Funeral services for Betty Benson were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, August 2, 2003 at Bethlehem United Church of Christ in Maple Lake. The Reverend David Martens officiated. Interment followed at Albion Evangelical UCC Cemetery.
Special music by Jaette Carpenter and she sang "In The Garden." Joanne Zander also sang "Precious Lord." The Church's One Foundation, " "Children of the Heavenly Father" and "What A Friend We Have In Jesus" were sung as congregational hymns.
Casket bearers were Troy Zumberge, Dan Fedor, Barry Zander, Noel Zander, Jon Morris and Carl Wandersee.
Our heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Douglas Rausch and to the Hospice of the Twin Cities Team #3 for their compassionate care.
The Peterson Chapel in Buffalo served the family.
Betty always said "It is never goodbye, it's so long until we meet again."

Beverly Scholl

Beverly J. Scholl, age 77, died Friday, August 1, at her residence in Buffalo.
She was born in Minneapolis, MN on November 25, 1925, the daughter of Victor and Elizabeth (Glover) Holin.
Beverly was united in marriage to John. F. Scholl on May 25, 1948. Her greatest love was found in raising her family and spending much of her life doing an excellent job of that.
Bev and John built a wonderful married life together for more than 55 years. She took pride in remembering everyone's birthday, anniversary or other significant date along the way.
Bev especially enjoyed sharing her life with others and doing whatever she could to offer a hand to anyone -- especially youngsters or older folks who needed a bit of help or support. She enjoyed visiting over a cup of coffee, often at the Wal-Mart Coffee Club, or trying her luck at the lottery. She dearly loved their little dog, Barney.
Bev is survived by Husband, John F. Scholl; Children: John D. (Nancy) Scholl of Alexandria, Sharon Scholl (friend, Jeff) of Spring Park, Sue (Brent) Banasiuk of Waconia and Janie (Greg) Skinner of Mound; Grandchildren: Carrie (Matthew) Schmidt, Katie (Brian) Schablin, Bucky Scholl, Kayla Scholl, Billy Maddock, Nicole Maddock and T. J. Skinner (fiance, Marisa Trevino); Great Granddaughter Kyllie Maddock-Dyer; Brothers: William (Gertrude) Holin of DesMoines, Robert (Gerry) Holin of North Minneapolis and Hugh (Ruth) Holin of Minneapolis; Sister, Doris (Henry) Bellefeuille of Minneapolis; Sister-in-law, Lucille (David) Tellett of Minneapolis. Many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends also survive.
A memorial service for Beverly J. Scholl was held on Monday at 3:00 p.m. with visitation one hour before, at The Peterson Chapel in Buffalo. Rev. Delburn Kurtz, of Buffalo, officiated at the service.
A beautiful eulogy was offered by Terry Marsh, a friend of Bev and John Scholl for more than 50 years. John and Terry are both retired Northwest Airlines Captains.
Interment was at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis on Tuesday, August 3, at 10 a.m.
Special thanks to the North Hospice Care who embraced Beverly with love and compassion. Serving the family was The Peterson Chapel of Buffalo.

Matthew Kadlec

Matthew (Davis) Kadlec, 21, of Buffalo died early Tuesday from injuries he received from an automobile accident.
Funeral services for Matthew Kadlec will be held at 7:00 p.m. Friday evening at the Peterson Chapel in Buffalo.
Friends may call on Friday at the funeral home from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m.
Arrangements by the Peterson Chapel in Buffalo.

Margaret Pribyl

Mrs. Margaret A. Pribyl, 86 of Maple Lake died Monday, August 4, 2003 at home.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, August 7 at St. Timothy's Catholic Church, Maple Lake with Father Mark Huberty officiating. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. on Wednesday and from 9-10 a.m. on Thursday at the Dingmann Funeral Care Chapel, Maple Lake. There will be a prayer service at 7 p.m. Wednesday.
Margaret Armenta Pribyl was born July 27, 1917 in Maple Lake to George and Mary (Geary) Elsenpeter. She taught country school for four years before marrying James F. Pribyl June 10, 1941 in Maple Lake. She lived in Maple Lake all her life where she was a homemaker and member of St. Timothy's Catholic Church, and National Catholic Order of Foresters. She was a 4-H leader, Farmers Union Youth leader, member of Maple Lake Extension Homemakers group, and volunteered at the Annandale Care Center.
Margaret loved her family and church, enjoyed community service, cooking, reading, sewing, crafts, and gardening. For the past 15 years Margaret and Jim wintered in Mesa, Ariz.
Margaret is survived by her husband Jim of Maple Lake; daughters Mary Jane (Duane) Heng of Woodbury, Kathy (John) Reisinger of St. Cloud; sons Dan (Mary Jo) of Maple Lake, Charles (Kay) of Birmingham, AL, Ron (Diann) of Eau Claire, Joe (Debra) of Eagan; sister Doris (Jack) Pribyl of Annandale; brother Bob (Peggy) Elsenpeter of CA; 23 grandchildren and 3 great grand children. Her son Jimmy and grandson Roy preceded her in death.
Pallbearers will be grandsons Brian Heng, Jeremy Reisinger, Greg, Jamie, Jason and Josh Pribyl.
Music for the funeral provided by Tony Coffey and Marge Pavlik.
Arrangements were by Dingmann Funeral Care of Maple Lake.

Leo McClanahan

Funeral services for Leo F. McClanahan, 67, Willow River, were held on Monday, August 4, 2003 at 11 a.m. in St. Mary's Catholic Church, Willow River. Father Timothy Deutsch officiated. Casket bearers were Frankie McClanahan, Nathan McClanahan, Joseph McClanahan, Tommy McClanahan, Randall McClanahan, and Josh McClanahan. Burial was in Sunnyside Cemetery, Willow River.
Leo Francis McClanahan was born on June 6, 1936 in International Falls to Luther and Evangeline "Mary" (LeMay) McClanahan. He grew up and attended school in the Ray, Minn. area. Leo later moved to the metro area where he was self employed as an upholsterer through the years. In 1992, Leo moved to Willow River where he continued his upholstering business. He loved camping, music and collecting owls.
Leo entered eternal rest on Friday, August 1, 2003 at his home with his family by his side.
He was preceded in death by an infant daughter Mary in 1955; brothers Vernon in 1934 and Richard in 1995; sisters Lucille Wanke in 1961 and Rosalie Overton in 1973; and a former wife Grace Adee.
Leo will be lovingly remembered by seven sons: Leo (Teresa) of Annandale, Francis "Joe" (Nellie) of Annandale, Lee of Hastings, Marty of Annandale, Steven of St. Paul, Robert (Maureen) of Maple Lake and John (Tammy) of Monticello; four daughters Rose Moriarty of Champlin, Laura (Danny) Manthie of Maple Lake, Elizabeth Johnson of Clearwater and Dawn (Jeremy) Reinking of Albertville; special lifetime friend: Chris Lanning of Willow River; foster children: Nathan Lanning of Columbia Heights, Nicole Houle of Rutledge, Larry Trott Jr. of Willow river, and Feather Trott of Willow River; a brother Clarence (Grace) McClanahan of International Falls; a sister Doretta Kucera of Fridley; and former wives Patricia Smith and Marge Adee.

Aquina Eicher

Aquina Elizabeth Eicher, 90 of St. Michael left this world to be with her husband Arthur on Friday, August 1, 2003.
She was born on July 2, 1913 in Frankfort Township, near Pelican Lake, the daughter of Francis "Frank" and Agnes Gutzwiller Blake.
On August 20, 1935, Aquina Blake and Arthur Eicher were joined in holy marriage at the Church of St. Michael in St. Michael. God blessed their marriage with eight children. Mr. Eicher preceded is wife in death on March 30, 1980.
She was a faithful, lifelong member of the Church of St. Michael and belonged to the Christian Mothers.
She will be missed by her son Tony (Carol) Eicher; daughters Marilyn (Bob) Quigley, RoseMary (Roger) Robeck, Aggie (Lloyd) LaVallee, Audrey (Carl) Welter, Alice (Jerry) Opheim, Susan (Steve) Scharber and Linda (Larry) May; thirty-five grandchildren; seventy-one great grandchildren; many other relatives and friends.
In addition to her husband, Aquina was preceded in death by a son-in-law Louis Welter on January 19, 1982.
A Concelebrated Mass of Christian Burial for Aquina Eicher was held on Monday, August 4th at 11 a.m. at the Church of St. Michael in St. Michael. Concelebrants were Father Michael Becker and Father Leonard Siebenaler. Interment followed at St. Michael Cemetery.
Friends called at the Peterson Chapel St. Michael - Albertville Funeral Home on Sunday, August 3 from 4-9 p.m. A prayer service was held at 7 p.m.
