Richard "Dick" Fadden, 81 of rural Buffalo, died Tuesday, August 5, 2003 at the Park View Care Center.
Funeral arrangements are pending at the Peterson Chapel in Buffalo.

Brian Bratvold

Brian Keith Bratvold, 32 of Litchfield, died on Sunday, July 27, 2003 near Montrose, Minnesota. Funeral services were held on Monday, August 4, 2003 at 10 a.m. at Gethsemane Lutheran Church in Dassel with Pastor Paula Geister-Jones officiating. Visitation was held on Sunday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Johnson - Hagglund Funeral Home in Litchfield and one hour prior to the services at the church. Interment and military rites were held at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis at 1:45 p.m.
Brian Keith Bratvold, the son of Gordon and Marjorie (Paurus) Bratvold, was born on October 10, 1970 in Minneapolis. He grew up in Cokato and graduated from Dassel - Cokato High School in 1989. Following graduation he enlisted in the National Guard and also served in the navy during the Gulf War. Brian returned from the service and lived in Dassel for a few years before moving to Litchfield. On June 15, 2002 he was united in marriage to Shannon Berg in Rapid City, South Dakota. Brian worked for Gordy Lund in Dassel for over six years doing construction work. He was a member of Mount Herman Lutheran Church. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, painting, reading, wood crafting, carpentry, and spending time with family, especially his nieces and nephews.
Brian is survived by his wife Shannon of Litchfield, father Gordon (and Janette) Bratvold of Montrose, mother Marjorie Bratvold of Montrose; brothers Mark Eggler of Rochester, Dale (and Lynn) Schroder of Waverly, and Dean Schroder of Waverly; sisters Marcie (and Michael "Max") Campbell of Faribault, Debbie Blesi of Coon Rapids, and Marie (and "Gus") Burton of Spring Valley, WI. He is also survived by his grandparents Caspar and Margaret Hanson of East Grand Forks and Ernie and Pauline Bratvold of Plymouth, father-in-law Richard Berg of Dassel and mother-in-law Kathy (and David) Isakson of Litchfield besides other relatives and friends. His grandparents, Alex and Hilia Paurus preceded him in death.
Peace be to his memory.

Gary Stewart Berland, 69

Gary Stewart Berland, 69, of rural Buffalo died Wednesday, September 17, 2003 at his residence in Rockford Township.
He was born on September 5, 1934 in Spring Grove the son of Victor and Jeanette Burreson Berland.
Gary was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith at Trinity Lutheran Church in Spring Grove. He attended grade school and graduated from Spring Grove High School.
Gary honorably served his country in the United States Navy.
He was formerly employed at Woolworth Stores for thirteen years and later at Ben Franklin for thirty-two years.
In 1962, Gary Berland and Sandra Bishop were joined in marriage. God blessed their marriage with two daughters, Terri and Traci. Sandra preceded her husband in death in 1988.
In 1995, Gary and Shirley Johnson were joined in marriage.
He loved fishing, the out of doors, deer hunting, camping, boating, waterskiing, football, and gardening. Gary hated cheese. He also liked timing people.
Survived by: wife, Shirley Berland of Buffalo; daughters, Terri (Duane) Maus of Maple Lake and Traci Barse of Shenandoah, Iowa; grandchildren, Elesia K. Barse, Samantha Ann Barse, Joseph Stewart, Cody Maus, Brady Maus and Tanner Maus; a brother, Maynard (Kathy) Berland of Wahkon, Minnesota; step-children, Melody Johnson of California, Larry (Mavis) Johnson of Staples, Kristen (Malachy) McCarthy of Lake City, Layne Johnson of Albany and Shannan (Mike) Olson of Savage; tweleve step-grandchildren and one step-great-granddaughter; other relatives and friends.
In addition, to his first wife, Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Victor and Jeanette Berland, and by a sister, Vivienne Schneider.
Funeral services for Gary Berland were held on Saturday, September 20, 11 a.m., at Zion Lutheran Church in Buffalo. Pastor Rebecca Sogge officiated. Interment, Trinity Lutheran Cemetary in Spring Grove.
Diane Johnson was the organist for the funeral service. Kristen McCarthy was the soloist, and she sang "Battle Hymn of the Republic."
Friends called on Saturday at the church one hour prior to services.
Honorary bearers were: George Nordlund, Jerry Waller, Bob Steinke, John LaPlume, Vince Bagley, James Hayden, and Gene Bachman.
The Peterson Chapel in Buffalo served the family.

Marian C. Bryer, 91

Marian C. Bryer, 91, of Howard Lake formerly of Minneapolis, died September 16, 2003 at the Howard Lake Good Samaritan Home.
She was born November 1, 1911 in Minneapolis, daughter of John and Rose Smith Swanson. She was raised in Lloydminister, Alberta, Canada. She was united in marriage to Harold H. Bryer on June 18, 1932 at Stewart, Minnesota.
Mrs. Bryer is survived by: her children Germaine (Richard) Mundhenk, Dallas, Texas and Kenneth (Carole) Bryer, Monticello; grandchildren Cindy (Pat) Wielinski, Tom (Marcia) Mundhenk and Andrea Bronstad; grandson-in-law, John Lindenfelser; 5 great-grandchildren; brother Bob Swanson, Fort St. John, British Columbia and sister, Delores Johns, Edmonton, Alberta, Canada also other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Harold on December 10, 1991 and sisters, Florence McMillan and Fern Rooke.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Friday, September 19 at the Peterson Chapel St. Michael-Albertville Funeral Home. Deacon Maynard Warne and Deacon Donald Fiedler officiated at the service. Marlene Mohwinkel was the organist at the service. Visitation was held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment was at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Minneapolis.
Peterson Chapel St. Michael-Albertville Funeral Home served the family.

Renee Dean, 51

Renee Dean, 51, of Rogers, Minnesota, and formerly of Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania, died Saturday, September 20, 2003 at her residence.
She was born in East Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania on June 4, 1952 the daughter of Guy P. Dean III and Patricia M. (Gehris) Dean.
Renee graduated from Stroudsburg High School and East Stroudsburg State College. She later received her masters degree in speech therapy from Penn State University.
Renee was formerly employed in speech therapy at Pocono Medical Center and Pleasant Valley Manor Nursing Home.
Survived by: her loving father, Guy P. Dean III; a sister, Stephanie Dean Hill, both of Rogers, Minnesota; a nephew, Matthew (Laura) Hill of Otsego, Minnesota, and their children, Sydney and Kallie; a niece, Andrea Hill of Plymouth, Minnesota; uncles and aunts, Richard P. (Joan) Dean and Darell (Doris) Gehris, all of East Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania; other relatives and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Patricia M. Dean in 1995.
Funeral Services for Renee Dean were held on Sunday, September 21, 2:30 p.m., at the Peterson Chapel St. Michael-Albertville Funeral Home. The Reverend Dean W. Brown officiated at the service.
Interment was held on Wednesday, September 24 at Laurel Wood Cemetery in Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania.

William Diem, 61

William "Bill" Leonard Diem, 61, of Delano died on Sunday September 21, 2003 at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis.
He was born April 30, 1942 to Leonard and Margaret (Heinen) Diem in Minneapolis. Bill was raised in Delano, where he attended St. Peter's Catholic School and graduated from Delano High School. After high school, Bill attended St. Cloud State University, and the Minnesota School of Business before going to work in his grandfather's hardware store, Heinen Hardware. Eventually Bill would take over the family business, in addition to this, he went to work for the Delano Post Office, a position he held for 17 years. In 1991, Bill sold the hardware and spent more of his time at the post office.
Bill served as chairman of the 4th of July committee for 30 years, and continued to work with the committee for the past six years. In addition to this, he worked with the police commission and the State Baseball tournament committee. In 1990 Bill was honored as Delano's Citizen of the Year.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Margaret (Heinen) Diem. He is survived by his wife Sylvia, daughters, Kris and Thom Howden, and Natalie and Steve Diem Lewis, sons, Brian and Pam Diem, and Tim and Toni Diem, grandchildren, Britta Diem, Ian and Jenna Howden, and Billy and Paul Diem, mother-in-law Valeria Topel.
Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, September 25 at 6:30 p.m. from St. Peter's Catholic Church in Delano. Gathering time is from 5 to 6:30 prior to the funeral mass at the church. Rev. Michael Miller will be officiating with Margaret Groskreutz, organist, and the Resurrection Choir will provide music. Private family committal services will be held the following day at Calvary Cemetery in Delano.

Harold R. Gardner, 96

Harold R. Gardner, 96, formerly of Milaca, died Friday, September 19, 2003 at Ebenezer Covenant Home in Buffalo.
He was born in Japer County, rural Newton, Iowa on November 6, 1906 the son of Charles and Dora Newcomb Gardner.
On April 18, 1936, Harold R. Gardner and Irene D. McKenzie were joined in holy marriage.
Mr. and Mrs. Gardner lived on a few farms in Minnesota and North Dakota. They engaged in dairy farming near Milaca for many years.
Survived by: loving wife, Irene D. Gardner; a son and a daughter-in-law, Eugene and Charlotte Gardner of St. Michael; grandchildren, Brian, Christopher and Katie Gardner, all of Monticello, and Roger Farris; great grandchildren, Jackson, Cole and Dominic; a brother, Robert (Andrea) Gardner of Milaca; other relatives and friends.
Preceded in death by a daughter, Cindy Farris, parents, Charles and Dora Gardner, two brothers and four sisters.
Funeral Services for Harold Gardner were held on Monday, September 22, 1 p.m., at the Peterson Chapel St. Michael-Albertville Funeral Home. Pastor Dennis L. Kolbrek officiated.
"How Great Thou Art" was sung as a congregational hymn.
Interment, Forest Hill Cemetery in Milaca.
Brian, Christopher and Katie Gardner, Jerry Dalton, Donald Broberg and Dan Weber served as casket bearers.

Ann S. Herda, 81

Ann Stephanie Herda, 81, of Waverly died on Saturday, Sept. 20, 2003 at the Howard Lake Good Samaritan Center. She was born October 10, 1921 to Henry and Emma (Braem) Mussche in Detroit, Michigan. Anna as her parents called her, met and married Joseph Albert Herda, and together they enjoyed 57 years of marriage. Over the years, they made their home in several Minnesota communities, including Albany and Lonsdale before moving onto Waverly where Joseph currently reside.
Ann was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Waverly, American Legion Auxiliary #305, and FRA auxiliary. She and Joseph were active members of the Polka Lovers Club of America. Sewing was a hobby which was a constant throughout her life.
Ann is preceded in death by: her parents, Henry and Emma (Braem) Mussche, daughters, Debbie Herda and Margie Herda, sisters, Clara Boekema, and Laura Bach, and a brother-in-law Julian Bertin. She is survived by: her husband Joseph Albert, sons, Joseph J. and Debbie Herda, David and Joyce Herda, Stephan Herda, James Herda, and Dan and Jamie Herda, daughters, Mary and Steven Mattson, Connie and Jeff Sterner, and Terri Hutto, 18 grandchildren, and 8 great grandchildren, sisters, Helen Bertin and Martha and Bill Hannum, brother-in-law Phil Boekema.
Mass of Christian Burial was held on Wednesday, September 24, 10 a.m., at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Waverly. Visitation was held Tuesday afternoon and evening and again prior to the services, all at the church in Waverly. Rev. Timothy Cloutier officiated with Therese Borrell, organist and St. Mary's Choir providing music. Interment was in St. Mary's Cemetery in Waverly.
Casket bearers were: Scott Herda, Jeff Herda, Mike Herda, Tom Herda, Sammy Sterner, Jamie Fors, Eric Goepfert, and Andy Mattson.

Erla Mae Johnson

Erla Mae Johnson, age 66 (nee Roehlke) died August 31, 2003 at her home in Edina. She was a Buffalo High School graduate.
Preceded in death by husband, Duane; sisters, Florence Bjorklund and Marvella Haggstrom. Survived by children: son, David (Carrie) Johnson and their son Travis; daughter, Brenda (Rob) Porter and their daughters Aly and Becky; brothers, Gustav (Betty), Wesley (Eileen), Alex (Agnes) and Walter (Dorothy) Roehlke; sisters Glorena Rogers, Ida Braun and Myrtle (Bill) Reichert; brother - in - law, Carl Haggstrom; many nieces and nephews.
Memorial service 12 noon Saturday, September 20 at Calvary Lutheran Church, 6817 Antrium Rd., Edina. Buried in Hanover Village Cemetery. No flowers please. Memorials preferred to the church, to Fairview Hospice, 2450 26th Ave. S., Mpls., MN 55406 or Sharing Life Foundation, 1457 Scheffer, St. Paul, MN 55116

William Taylor

William Taylor, 87, of Big Lake died on Tuesday, September 16, 2003 at the Delano Health Care Center.
He was born August 25, 1916 to Cranshaw and Lena (Ploff) Taylor in Edina, Minnesota. William was in construction during his years of employment. He was a member of laborer union local #563. William served his country in the civilian conservation corps prior to serving in the Navy during World War II. He achieved the rank of Tech 4 prior to his honorable discharge. William was a past member of the Hopkins VFW post and a current member of the Big Lake American Legion post #147.
After leaving the service, William made his home in Minnetonka, where he and Mabel lived until 1978 at which time they moved to Big Lake. William was a handyman, known for being able to fix things. He also enjoyed gardening and spending time with his family.
William is preceded in death by his wife Mabel and a daughter Joyce Grahn. He is survived by: his grandchildren, Ron and Verlee Grahn, Rich and Kathy Grahn and Ronda and Jim Wirgau, 6 great grandchilren, and a brother Robert Taylor.
A visitation was held on Thursday at the Iten Funeral Home in Delano. Funeral services were held on Friday at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis. Rev. Larry Rehlander, from Our Father's Lutheran Church in Rockford, officiated with military honors provided by the Ft. Snelling honor guard.
