Helen Kespohl

Helen Marie Kespohl, 93, formerly of Montrose, died Friday, April 7, 2006 at the Park View Care Center.
She was born on June 2, 1912 in Buffalo, the daughter of Patrick and Ellen Gratton Galvin.
She graduated from Montrose High School in 1932 and was a member of the women's basketball team. Helen later attended the Minnesota School of Business.
On September 30, 1937, Helen M. Galvin was joined in holy marriage to Clarence Kespohl at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Waverly. God blessed their marriage with four children. Helen and Clarence engaged in farming in Marysville Township until 1977.
She was a former member of the Church of St. Mary in Waverly. Helen also belonged to VFW Post #1901's Auxiliary, the Montrose Seniors and was a charter member of QQ's.
Survived by loving children: Barbara Bakeberg of Waverly, Pat (Sandy) Kespohl of Delano, Sharon Bateman of Burlington, Ontario and Ann (Bob) DeWolfe of Buffalo; twelve grandchildren, twenty-one great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Preceded in death by her husband Clarence Kespohl on May 22, 1987; a son-in-law Vernon Bakeberg on June 2, 2001; her parents; brothers and sisters, Christopher, Owen, James "Jim, " John "Jack" and Robert Galvin, Eileen Galvin, Edna Steman and Ethel Effertz.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Helen Kespohl was held on Monday, April 10 at 10:30 a.m. at the Church of St. Mary in Waverly. Father Timothy Cloutier was the Celebrant and interment followed at St. Mary's Cemetery.
Friends called on Sunday, April 9 from 4-8 p.m. at the Peterson Chapel in Buffalo. A rosary was held at 7 p.m.
Casket bearers were Ron, Robert, Ralph, Rande and Donna Bakeberg, Denise Schliep, Mindy Kespohl, Rob and Dan DeWolfe.
The Peterson Chapel in Buffalo served the family.

Dorothy Kritzeck

Dorothy M. Kritzeck, 90 of Winsted, died Tuesday, April 11, 2006 at St. Mary's Care Center in Winsted.
Dorothy Marie Schlagel was born on May 8, 1915 in Victor Township, Wright County, Minnesota to the late Michael and Margaret (Mulvaney) Schlagel. She grew up on a farm in Victor Township and graduated from Holy Trinity High School, class of 1933.
She was united in marriage to Gervase Kritzeck on November 28, 1940 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted.
The couple made their home on the farm across the road from where she grew up. She and her husband raised three children, Roger, Janice and Lyle. Dorothy enjoyed being a mother and homemaker. She also enjoyed gardening, all family activities, walks, visiting with her siblings and especially enjoyed her grandchildren.
She was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted and the Catholic Order of Foresters.
She is survived by her children: Roger Kritzeck of Howard Lake, Janice (Larry) Lhotka of Silver Lake and Lyle (Marlene) Kritzeck of Winsted; brothers, Donald (Myrtle) Schlagel of Howard Lake and Alden (Betty) Schlagel of Woodbury; 8 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Michael and Margaret Schlagel; husband, Gervase Kritzeck and brothers, William, Cecil and Gilbert Schlagel.
Mass of Christian Burial was held at 12 noon on Monday, April 17 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted. Visitation was held from 9-11:30 a.m. Monday, April 17 at the Chilson Funeral Home in Winsted with a rosary at 9:30 a.m.
Father Paul Wolf was the celebrant and Lavon Kielkucki was the organist.
Casket bearers were David Kritzeck, Stacey Paulson, Lori Wick, Scott Lhotka, Eric Kritzeck and Brent Kritzeck.
The Chilson Funeral Home of Winsted served the family.

Tracy Welle

Tracy Wynne Welle was born May 14, 1964 at Wyandotte, Michigan the daughter of Teddy and Linda (Anderson) Davis. She was baptized as a young adult at Riverview Baptist Temple in Michigan.
On November 4, 1997 she was united in marriage to Eric Welle. They were blessed with two sons.
Tracy graduated from the University of Minnesota, majoring in English. She was an outstanding planner and communicator. Animals, insects and birds were areas of nature that she loved and enjoyed caring for them.
She was confirmed in her faith on January 13, 2005 at St. James Lutheran Church, Howard Lake by Pastor Martin Schoenfeld.
It was on March 31, 2006 while a patient at the Waconia Hospital that Tracy Welle took the hand of the Lord and entered her eternal rest. She had reached the age of 41 years, 10 months and 18 days.
She was preceded in death by her father Teddy Davis.
Tracy is survived by her husband Eric; sons, Zachary and Benjamin; mother Linda Davis; brother Douglas Davis; sister Deborah Hall; nieces, nephews, and a host of relatives and friends.
Officiating at the funeral service on Tuesday, April 4, at St. James Lutheran Church were Reverend Michael Nirva and Reverend Martin Schoenfeld. Mrs. Nancy Butterfass served as organist with special music by soloist Ann Hoeschen. Interment will be at Trigg Memory Acres in Kentucky at a later date.
Casket bearers were Jerry Hall, Curtis Lincowski, Scott Mattson, Tom Vetch, Anthony Welle and Tom Welle.

Joyce Schlagel

Joyce Schlagel, 76, of rural Delano and formerly of Litchfield died Sunday, April 30, 2006 at North Memorial Medical Center in Robbinsdale.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, May 4 beginning at 11 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home.
Funeral services for Joyce Schlagel will be held on Thursday afternoon, May 4 at 1 p.m. at the Peterson Chapel in Buffalo.
Interment at Lakeview Cemetery in Buffalo.

Winifred Berthiaume

Winifred Lucille Berthiaume, 88 of Monticello, died at her residence on Wednesday, April 26, 2006. Funeral services were held on Saturday, April 29 at the Peterson - Grimsmo Chapel of Monticello. Reverend Ingrid Bloom officiated. Interment was at Riverside Cemetery of Monticello. Funeral arrangements were with the Peterson - Grimsmo Chapel of Monticello.
Winifred was born in the Salida area of Sherburne County on February 14, 1918 to Guy and Estella (Loehr) Fountain. She grew up in the Salida area and then moved to rural Monticello where she spent many years.
She is survived by three daughters Kathryn (Kenny) Middagh-Schultz of Crosby, Diane Folkestad (and Leroy Kreitlow) of Buffalo, Laurie (Duane) Poach of Monticello; 8 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; and brother Bruce Fountain of Duluth.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Harvey; 3 infant children; 7 brothers; one sister and son-in-law Owen Middagh.

Robert Bartos

It is with great joy that we announce the passing of Robert J. Bartos through the gates of heaven, to be greeted by his loving wife, Irene who has for 19 years been awaiting this glorious reunion. We will miss him dearly, but our happiness for him brings sweetness to our pain.
He was born June 20, 1912. In addition to his wife Irene, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Walter, Frank, John, Agnes and Lucy; grandson Jeff and great-grandsons Kyle and Erik.
He is survived by his sister Rosella and in-laws Clara, Pat, Verna and Howard; children Vern and Bette, Les and Sharon, Dennis and Shirley, Carole and Jim, David and Carol, Linda and Floyd, Dean and Cindy, Mark and Marjorie and Janet and Randy. He is also very proud of his 42 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.
Mass of Christian Burial was held on Tuesday, May 2, 2006 at the St. Peter Catholic Church in Delano. Reverend Michael Miller officiated at the service with interment in the church cemetery. Casket bearers were Alan Dongoski, Melissa Vik, Keith Bartos, Scott Bartos, Ethan Bartos, Cheryl Bartos, Jason Bartos, Theresa Stricklen and Joy Sandquist.

Ray Saksa

Ray Martin Saksa was born April 17, 1915 on the Saksa farm in Albion Township to John and Emma (Josephson) Saksa. He was the 7th of 13 children. He attended Gunnary Country School through 8th grade. He also attended the Lutheran Bible Institute.
Ray was married to Agnes Sylvia Leinonen on July 16, 1938. They started out their married life on a small farm in Albion Township before moving the family to the family farm in 1941, where he became a dairy farmer. In 1981 they built and moved to a home on Granite Lake. In 2002, they moved to Cokato.
Ray was very active in the local church and the Gideon International where he ministered to inmates at the local county jail and spoke often in various area churches.
After retirement he spent many hours in his woodworking shop and was an avid gardener. He enjoyed sharing many products of his labors with others. He also enjoyed being involved in local horseshoe teams. He and Agnes spent 21 winters in Arizona.
Ray Martin Saksa passed away on April 22, 2006 at the age of 91, at the Cokato Manor.
He is survived by his wife Agnes; children, Phillip (Ruth Ann) Saksa of Detroit, MI, Joanne (Gary) Jones of Cokato, Carol (Lee) Escobedo of Tucson, AZ, Marie (Harley) Wilson of South Haven and Jonathan (Janet) Saksa of Dassel; 19 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; brother, George (Marilyn) Saksa of Duluth; sisters, Florence (Jack) Miller of Seattle, WA and Beatrice Raisanen of Brighton, MI.
Ray was preceded in death by his parents, infant daughter, 9 siblings, granddaughter-in-law and 2 infant great-grandchildren.
Services were held on Wednesday, April 26 at 10:30 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Cokato with Rev. Al Jones and Rev. Philip Geoffrion officiating. Music by Bonnie Jones, Ned Wilson, Nicole Wilson, Rod and Marilyn Twitchell, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Casket bearers - grandsons: Allen Jones, Dale Jones, Lonnie Jones, Charles Jones, Nate Wilson, Ned Wilson, Duwayne Escobedo, Trevor Saksa, Trent Saksa, Todd Saksa and Brian Saksa.
Interment at Riverside Cemetery.
Swanson Peterson Funeral Home served the family.

Donald Payne

Donald Kaerver Payne, 94 of Rochester, Minn., husband of Gladys E. Payne entered eternal rest on April 25, 2006. Mr. Payne was born on August 27, 1911 to Frank C. Payne and Olga Kaerver of Stearns County, Minn. He attended Waite Park Public School and four years in a rural school near Mora, before the family returned again to farm near Waite Park. Mr. Payne also attended the School of Agriculture in Morris (later named the College of Agriculture at the University of Minnesota).
On June 1, 1935 he married Gladys Hacker at Montevideo. They moved to Eugene, Oregon in 1937, where Mr. Payne was employed by the Lane County Highway Department. After returning to Minnesota in 1938, they operated his parent's farm near Waite Park for ten years before buying their own farm in Wright County, near Buffalo. The family lived there until 1957 when Mr. Payne accepted employment with the State Training School for Boys in Red Wing (later named the Minnesota Correctional Facility, Red Wing).
After residing four years in the Red Wing area, he moved with his family to Goodhue, Minn. Due to poor health, he retired from the State Training School for Boys in 1974. He and his wife moved to Rochester the following year.
Mr. Payne had been a lifelong member of the Methodist Church. He was also a member of the DeMolay, St. Cloud, and active in various agricultural organizations during his youth and later, while farming. While living in Rochester, he was a member of the Senior Citizen Center club.
Mr. Payne was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers Wesley of St. Cloud and Eugene of Yakima, Wash.; one sister Marion Maehling of Buffalo. He is survived by his sister Peggy Gill; his wife of 70 years, Gladys Hacker Payne; three sons, Roger A. Payne (Heide) of Los Alamos, NM, Leonard D. Payne (Madelon), of Chaska, Edwin L. Payne (Sharon) of Los Alamos, NM; a daughter Shirley K. Kreyling (Larry) of Kiawah Island, SC; six grandsons; four granddaughters; 16 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild.
His body was bequested to Mayo Foundation. After cremation, burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery, Buffalo. A memorial service will be announced later. Memorials may be made to: Cancer Research, Mayo Foundation, Rochester, MN 55905 or to Evangel United Methodist Church, Rochester, MN 55906.

Fred Holthaus

Fred Holthaus of Buffalo died Tuesday evening, June 13, 2006 at his residence.
A visitation is being held at St. Francis Catholic Church in Buffalo on Sunday, June 18 from 4-8 p.m. The funeral is taking place Monday, June 19 at 10:30 a.m. in the church.
The Peterson Chapel in Buffalo is serving the family.
