Godsey, Mary Ellen
Mary Ellen Godsey, 80, died Thursday, November 30, 2000 at her home at 456 Glenview Court, Winona.

She is survived by her husband, Maurice; a son, Mark; and a daughter, Susan (Bruce) Holan, all of Winona.

Services will be Tuesday, December 5 at 2 p.m. at Fawcett-Junker Funeral Home. Visitation will be Tuesday from noon until time of services at the funeral home. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery.

A memorial is being arranged.

Fawcett-Junker Funeral Home and Cremation Services is assisting the family with the arrangements.

Evanson, Sally L.
Sally L. Evenson, 70, of Houston, died Thursday, November 30, 2000, at Valley View Nursing Home in Houston. She was born on May 15, 1930, in Money Creek, MN to George and Edna (Loppnow) Seekamp. Sally was raised in the Houston, MN area and lived there all of her life. She married Donald Evenson on July 1, 1949, in Houston. Donald died on January 28, 1995. Sally was a member of Cross of Christ Lutheran Church in Houston. She is survived by two sons: Denis (Karen) Evenson of Money Creek, MN, and Darrel (Roxanne) Evenson of Houston; two daughters: Marilyne Sand of Onalaska, WI, and Susan (Mike) Jenkins of Houston; twelve grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; one brother: John Seekamp of Money Creek; two sisters: Marjorie (Allen) Rislove of New Hampshire, and Effie (Richard) Egland of Money Creek. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter JoAnn, and brother Leonard. The funeral service will be at 2:00 PM on Monday, December 4, 2000, at Cross of Christ Lutheran Church in Houston with the Rev. Lane Zaffke officiating. Burial will be in the Money Creek Cemetery. Friends may call from 5:00 to 8:00 PM on Sunday at Hoff Funeral Homes ­ Houston Chapel and one hour prior to the service on Monday at the church.

Iffert, Elmer G.
Elmer G. Iffert, 78, of Willmar, Minn., died Thursday, October 5, 2000 at Rice Memorial Hospital. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, October 10 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, with Father Lawrence Castelino SJ officiating. Interment will be at Fort Snelling National Cemetery. Friends may call Monday from 5-7 p.m. at the Harvey Anderson Funeral Home with Parish Prayers at 7 p.m. Military honors will be provided by VFW Post 1639 Willmar.

Elmer George Iffert was born January 12, 1922 at Clara City, Minn., the son of Henry and Clara (Kimpling) Iffert. He attended school in Clara City. The family later moved to a farm near Gluck, Minn.

On November 24, 1943 Elmer was inducted into the U.S. Army serving with the Anti Tank Co. 1st Infantry 6th Div. They served in the battles and campaigns at New Guinea, Luzon. He received decorations and citations for Asiatic Pacific Theatre Service Medal, Philippine Liberation and Bronze Star. Following his discharge on March 12, 1946, Elmer returned home to farm with his father.

On January 8, 1946 Elmer was united in marriage to Mable T. Neimeyer at Canby, Minn. This union was blessed with one son. In June 1964 Elmer was united in marriage to Bonnie West at Breckenridge, Minn. This union was blessed with one son.

Elmer left farming to operate the road grader for the county in the Maynard area and worked at the elevator in Maynard. He later drove semi for Cargill in Gluck, and hauled livestock from the Gluck area. He later worked in farm equipment in Clara City. Elmer moved to Iowa for a short time where he worked for a desk manufacturing company. Elmer moved back to Minnesota, living in the Winona area where he worked for the Minnesota Highway Department as a heavy equipment operator, retiring in 1984. He later drove semi for the Post Office in the Twin Cities and when he moved back to Willmar he drove semi hauling sugar beets and treated lumber in the Willmar area.

Elmer loved airplanes and was able to fly an Ultralite plane for a couple of years.

He is survived by his sons, Willis (Betty) Iffert and Warren Iffert, both of Willmar; two grandchildren, Jennifer (Jon) Kidrowski and Brian Iffert; a great-granddaughter, Kali Kidrowski; and sisters, Marie Looyen of Minneapolis, Minn., and Ruth Iffert, Bemidji, Minn.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Cecil and Ralph, sister, Rosella DeGrote, and great-grandson, Jeremiah Kidrowski.

Abrahamsen, Betty Erwin
Betty Erwin Abrahamsen, 78, of Brooklyn Park, Minn., and formerly of Winona, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 27, at Methodist Hospital in St. Louis Park, Minn.

She was born April 24, 1922 in Winona to Chauncey B. & Margaret S. Erwin.

Betty was a teacher, a homemaker and an active volunteer with the Salvation Army & Catholic Charities.

She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Bud; daughters and son-in-law, Heidi and Mark Wavinak of Bloomington, and Cathy and Paul Wood of Fort Worth, Tex.; brother and sister in-law, Chuck and Phyl Erwin of Ballwin, MO.; five grandchildren, Jay and Beth Clarke, Brian, Scott and Julie Wavinak.

Mass of Christian Burial was Monday, October 2, 2000 at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in Brooklyn Park.

Memorials preferred to the Methodist Hospital, Oncology Dept., 6500 Excelsior Blvd., St. Louis Park, MN, 55408 or to the charity of the donor's choice.

Interment was in Ft. Snelling National Cemetery.

Hall, Bruce Wayne
Bruce Wayne Hall, 59, passed away Tuesday, October 3, 2000 in Minnetonka, Minn., after a courageous battle with cancer.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Waldo and Vivian Hall.

He is survived by his sister, Gail Wempner of Minnetonka; and nieces and nephews, Brenda Wempner, Ann Wempner, Kris Johnson and Thomas Wempner. He was loved and will be greatly missed also by his long-time friends, Kathy Hall, Mike Gripne and Bob Schultz.

He was employed by Hiawatha Transport Ltd. of Winona.

Graveside services will be held at Rutz Lake Cemetery, Waconia, Minn, at 2:00 p.m. Monday, October 9. Call 952-525-1275 for directions.

Schultz, Clarence "Dutch"
Clarence "Dutch" Schultz, 81, of 416 East Mark St., Winona, died Friday, October 6, 2000 at the Veterans Hospital in Tomah, Wis.

Funeral services will be Monday, October 9 at 11 a.m. at St. Martin's Evangelical Lutheran Church. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery.

Visitation will be held Sunday from 6-8 p.m. at Martin-Myhre Funeral Home and on Monday at the church after 10 a.m.

Martin-Myhre Funeral Home is assisting the family with the arrangements.

Hornberg, Ragnhild K.
Ragnhild K. Hornberg, 71, of the C&R Unit of Community Memorial Hospital and formerly of 722 East 4th St., died Thursday, January 6, 2000 at the C&R Unit.

She was born in Winona on March 1, 1928, the daughter of George N. and Clara Emelia (Honsey) Sorbo. On October 8, 1949 she married Robert B. Hornberg at North Prairie Lutheran Church in rural Lanesboro, MN. He died January 9, 1998.

Ragnhild helped her husband on the family farm, drove cattle truck and later worked at the Winona Knitting Mills as a ripper from 1983 to 1993 when she retired.

She graduated from Winona Senior High School on May 31, 1946 and Winona Business College in 1947.

She is a member of St. Matthew's Ev. Lutheran Church, Winona, and a former member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Wilson, MN.

She enjoyed shopping, visiting and socializing with everybody, seeing her grandchildren, visiting and playing with them, feeding the ducks at Lake Winona, and also a love of the Norwegian heritage.

Survivors are sons: Roger (Connie) Hornberg, Moline, IL, and children, Jason, Lisa, Kyle and Julie; Robert Hornberg, Jr., Phoenix, AZ, and children, Chris and Missy; Raymond (Letty) Hornberg, Rt. 1, Dakota, MN, and children, Brian and Scott; Richard (Deanna) Hornberg, Ettrick, WI, and children, Nicky, Jeremy, Sharo, Tara, Keasha, Karine and Tava; Ronald (Renee) Hornberg, Rt. 2, Winona, and children, Andrew, Cassandra and Jacob; Rueben (Sally) Hornberg, Rochester, MN; and Ralph (Teresa) Hornberg, Fountain City, WI, and children, Krista and Brandon; daughters: Ruth (Louis) Pinkerton, Minot, ND, and children, Angelia, Jennie, John and Andria; Rebecca (Richard) Suhr, Fountain City, WI, and children, Ben, Anna and Jordan; Ramona (Jay) Woodard, Maple Grove, MN; and Roberta (Michael Schell) Hornberg, Winona, and children, Michael and Emelia; a sister, Dorothy Sorbo of Shoreview, MN; a sister-in-law, Ethel Thompson of Winona; and special friends, Donna Hornberg of Oelwein, IA and Audrey Peterson, Phoenix, AZ.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, an infant son, and a son, Randy.

Funeral services were Monday, January 10 at St. Matthew's Evangelical Lutheran Church with Revs. Oliver H. Lindholm and James Nelson officiating. Burial was in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, Wilson, MN.

Casketbearers were her grandsons, John Pinkerton, Chris, Jason, Brian, Scott and Jeremy Hornberg.

A memorial is being arranged.

DeBolt, Jean Brackett
Jean Brackett DeBolt was born in Little Rock, Arkansas, to E.F. and Beulah (Holcombe) Brackett Harris. Her early years were spent in southern Ohio, graduating from Silver Creek High School in Jamestown, OH. She attended Eastern Illinois State College. Jean and Mike met at a young adult group at Hyde Park Methodist Church, Chicago in 1946. They were married in that same church on May 29, 1948.

In 1949 Jean and Mike moved to Mankato where they lived until coming to Winona in 1953.

Jean was a member of Central United Methodist Church, where she was a past Chair of its Board of Trustees as President and held other offices. She was involved in the United Methodist Women and church Circle. Some of her greatest rewards came from her church involvement.

Another source of satisfaction came from her commitment to her community. Jean was an active member of PEO, Ruskin Study Club and Friends of the Library. She served as president of the YWCA and was involved with the League of Women Voters and many other civic causes.

Jean was an astute business woman with a flair for real estate. She loved Bridge Club, Book Club, gardening, river and country living, traveling, and anything that added to "joie de vivre" (joy of living).

She is survived by her husband, Dr. M.L. DeBolt; daughters, Suzanne (Blake) DeBolt Wold, Burnsville, MN and Vicki (James) DeBolt-Smith, Prior Lake, MN; grandchildren, Ben and Bridgette Smith; sisters, Norma Bauer, Minneapolis, MN and Diana Brackett Ackley, Washington Court House, OH; and brothers, Erle and Thomas Brackett, Dayton, OH.

Jean was preceded in death by her parents.

Memorial services for Jean were Monday, January 10 at Central United Methodist Church, with Rev. Mary Hurmence officiating. Interment was in Woodlawn Cemetery.

Memorials may be directed to Central United Methodist Church Memorial Fund, Friends of the Library, or the Watkins Home.

Fawcett-Junker Funeral Home assisted the family with funeral arrangements.
