Rettkowski, Frances A.
Frances A. Rettkowski, 84, formerly of 578 East Fifth St., died Wednesday, March 29, 2000 at Community Memorial Hospital.
She was born October 18, 1915 in Dodge, WI, to John C. and Laura (Pellowski) Bambenek, Sr. She married Frederick R. Rettkowski on March 18, 1944 in St.Stanislaus Kostka Church. He died October 3, 1975.
She was employed many years as a legal secretary for different law firms in the area. Frances was also a legal secretary in the Minnesota State Legislature. After the death of her husband, Frances and her son, Bob, purchased, named and ran the Hei and Low Tap at 529 East 7th in Winona.
Frances endured many sufferings in her life but did so with grace, dignity, and an overwhelming love for her family. She is an inspiration to all and will be missed and always remembered with a tearful smile.
She was a member of St. Stanislaus Kostka Parish most of her life and a member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Winona Court #191.
Survivors include a son, Robert (Paula) Rettkowski, Winona; a brother, John C. (Helen) Bambenek, St. Louis Park, MN; two sisters, Laura (Ray) Hughes of Oak Creek, WI and Carol A. Bambenek, Bloomington, IL; and three grandchildren, Katherine, Rebecca and Kristin.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two children, John Henry and Mary Frances, a sister, Betty Wieczorek, and a brother, James V. Bambenek.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered Wednesday, April 5 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Stanislaus Kostka Church with preliminary services at 10:30 a.m. at Watkowski-Pronschinske Funeral Home. Rev. Robert G. Meyer will officiate. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery.
The Catholic Daughters of the Americas will meet in a body at the church.

Brownlee, Marian D. "Minnie'
Marian D. "Minnie" Brownlee, 78, Buffalo City, WI, and formerly of Arcadia, WI, died Sunday, April 2, 2000 at Franciscan Skemp Healthcare Arcadia Nursing Home in Arcadia.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, April 6 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Arcadia, with Rev. Bill Kulas officiating. Burial will be at noon in St. Stanislaus Cemetery.
Olness, Sibert Maynard
Sibert Maynard Olness, 82, of 1559 West King Street, passed away Monday, April 3, 2000 at his home.
Sibert, known as Maynard, was born June 22, 1917, at Peterson, MN, to John and Bertha (Hermanson) Olness. He was married to Corrine Margaret Boyum by Dr. Oscar C. Hanson on June 20, 1945, at the Arendahl Lutheran Church, rural Peterson.
Maynard is survived by his wife, Corrine; three children, Bonnie (Robert) Simonet of St. Paul, MN, Susan Frosch of Winona, and James of Roseville, MN; five grandchildren, David and Ryan Simonet of St. Paul, and Peter, Andrew and Elizabeth Frosch of Winona; a brother, Manvel Olness of Rushford, MN; and three sisters, Berdine (Hubert) Highum of Peterson, and Olive (Palmer) Peterson and Evelyn (Ronald) Bremseth, both of Rushford, MN.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 8, at Central Lutheran Church, Winona, with Pastor Wade E. Davick officiating. Burial will be in Arendahl Lutheran Cemetery, rural Peterson.
Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. on Friday, April 7, at Fawcett-Junker Funeral Home, Winona, and on Saturday after 10 a.m. at the church.
Memorials may be directed to the Arendahl Lutheran Cemetery or to the Central Lutheran Church Building Fund.

Putzier, Arnold W.
Arnold W. Putzier, 87, of St. Charles, MN, died Tuesday, February 1, 2000 at Whitewater Healthcare Center in St. Charles.
Arnold was born December 2, 1912 in Quincy Township of Olmsted County to William and Lillian (Kurth) Putzier.
He attended St. Charles Elementary School and the Worth School near Utica, MN. Arnold purchased the George Blair farm south of Utica in 1932. He was a very devoted farmer and loved animals. He cared for and preserved his farm for wildlife and his animals by planting trees, building dams, and rotating fields.
Arnold entered Whitewater Healthcare Center in September of 1995.
Survivors include two sisters, Doris Thomann of St. Charles and Margie Mundt of Utica; eighteen nieces and nephews; and several great and great-great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Harold and Eldon, one niece and two nephews.
Funeral services were Friday, February 4 at Hoff Funeral Homes - St. Charles Chapel with Rev. David Hodel officiating. Burial will be in Worth Cemetery south of Utica in the spring.

Przybylski, Joan "Jo"
Joan "Jo" Przybylski, 75, of 625 44th Avenue, Goodview, MN, died Tuesday, February 1, 2000 at Community Memorial Hospital.
Jo was born on August 30, 1924 in Money Creek, MN to Hamden A. and Mary F. (Gallagher) Corey. She married Henry J. Przybylski, who preceded her indeath in 1977.
Jo was a preschool teacher at St. Mary's University for 20 years, retiring in 1988. Prior to this she had worked with Head Start. She is a lifelong resident of this area.
She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. In the early 1960's she founded the Goodview Little League Baseball program, and was active in its operation until the time of her death. During Goodview Days of 1997 she was honored by the naming of the baseball park at 44th and 9th Streets as Jo Przybylski Field. Jo was the first woman named as Jack Frost by the Winona Area Jaycees. Her hobbies included knitting, playing cards, watching sports and game shows.
Jo is survived by two sons, Duane (Deborah) Price of Rochester, MN and Francis Przybylski of San Diego, CA; three daughters, Mary Jo (Fred) Schreiber, Lakeland, FL, Deborah (Donald) Burt, Hastings, MN, and Carol (Ronald) Paulson, Fountain City, WI; ten grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Patricia (Dwight) Coulson, Mount Vernon, MO and Winifred McGuire, LaCrosse, WI; and a brother-in-law, Harry Przybylski of Bluff Siding, WI.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and two brothers, Eugene and Jerry.
Funeral services were Saturday, February 5 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Winona with Father Joseph L. Keefe officiating. Burial was in St. Mary's Cemetery.
Honorary pallbearers were Gary, Lee, Karl, Don and Larry Corey, Jeff and Pat McGuire, Roger Przybylski, Floyd Bischel and Julie Marthuler.
Memorials are requested to Goodview Little League.

Speed, Duane Francis
Duane Francis Speed, born September 13, 1946, beloved son, brother, husband, father, friend and brother-in-law, died unexpectedly on Monday, January 31, 2000, of a heart attack while vacationing in the Bahamas.
Duane was born in Minneapolis, MN, and lived in Winona since his childhood. He married Charlayne Sue Pervisky on May 10, 1969 in St. Joseph the Workman Cathedral in LaCrosse, WI.
He was the owner of Duane's Heating and Ventilating which has been serving the Winona area since 1976.
He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Elk's Lodge #327 and Winona Networking.
He is survived by his wife, Charlayne of Winona; two daughters, Nicole Speed of Los Angeles, CA and Trisha Speed of Minneapolis, MN; a son, Jesse Speed of Winona; his father, Frank Speed of Winona; a brother, Charles Speed of Milwaukee, WI; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Mike and Joette Gostomski, Winona; his mother-in-law, Evelyn Pervisky, LaCrosse, WI; nephews, James (Catherine) Gostomski, Ryan Gostomski and David Speed; nieces, Alyssa Gostomski and Aimee and Angie Speed; great-nieces, Eliana and Isabella Gostomski; and an aunt and uncle, Dr. Harold and Ann Howell.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Helen (Cisewski) Speed.
A Mass of Christian Burial was offered Saturday, February 5 at St. Stanislaus Kostka Church with Rev. Robert G. Meyer officiating. Burial was in St. Mary's Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Russell Thorn, Dean Feine, Michael Kaiser, Larry Bauer, William Becker and James Pehler.
We shared the most loving and happy years with Duane and learned so much from his strength and faith.
The family requests that memorials be directed to the American Cancer Society.
