Frank, Sister Florentia

Sister Florentia Frank, 85, a Franciscan Sister of the Congregation of Our Lady of Lourdes, Rochester, MN, who served in domestic care, died Wednesday, February 2, 2000 at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester where she had spent 20 years working in food service and caring for the priests dining room before her retirement in 1986.

Born October 31, 1914 in Saint Pius, ND, Barbara Frank entered the Franciscan Congregation from Saint Pius Parish, Saint Pius, ND, and made her profession of vows on August 15, 1934. She began her ministry of domestic work in Caledonia, MN. She served in various missions in Minnesota including Saint James, Currie, Lake City, Johnsburg and Adams. She retired to Assisi Heights in 1987 and celebrated her diamond jubilee in 1994.

Survivors include her Franciscan Community and her three sisters, Sister Francis Marie Nuss of Assisi Heights, Sister Joan Nuss of Richardson, ND, and Agatha Thoene of Hartington, NE; and two brothers, Jerome Frank of Moot, ND and Christian Frank of Willmar, MN.

A Funeral Mass was held Tuesday, February 8 at Assisi Heights with Rev. Jack Krough presiding.

Duffy, Mary Lou Elizabeth
Mary Lou Elizabeth Duffy, 52, Rt. 1, Box 94 (Ridgeway) Houston, MN, died Monday, February 7, 2000 at her home.

Mary Lou was born in Rushford, MN, on June 1, 1947, the daughter of Rose Mary Elizabeth (O'Donnell) Randall. She married James Byron Duffy on June 17, 1967 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Rushford.

Mary Lou provided domestic services for area families including home health care assistance. She loved a neat and tidy home and shared her expertise with others.

She was a member of the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart, enjoyed traveling and the company of her pets, being outdoors in the sun, camping with her family and friends at Money Creek, and sharing a smile with everyone she met.

She is survived by her husband, James; one son, Tom (Jaime) Duffy of Rushford; one daughter, Angela Duffy of Rushford; her mother, Rose Mary Randall of Houston; and sister, Rose Ann Laumb of Rushford.

She was preceded in death by her father, Allen R. Randall.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. Thursday, February 10 at the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart with Rev. Michael J. Cronin officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery in Rushford.

Friends may call at the Fawcett-Junker Funeral Home in Winona, on Wednesday, from 5-8 p.m. and at the church on Thursday after 9 a.m. A prayer service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Casketbearers will be nephews, John Laumb, Matt Duffy, Brad Duffy, Mark Allred, Steve Erdman and Brian Erdman.

Honorary casketbearers will be Rich and Judy Hemker, Denny and Donna Burns and Dean and Joanne Kiefer.

A memorial is being arranged.

Fawcett-Junker Funeral Home is assisting the family with the arrangements.

Holmay, Esther M.
Esther M. Holmay, 640 East Sarnia Street, Winona, died Monday, February 7, 2000 at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center, LaCrosse, WI.

She was born November 28, 1928 in Rushford, MN, to Clarence and Mary J. (Dahle) Hatlevig. She married Thomas R. Holmay on August 22, 1953 at St. John Nepomucene Church in Winona.

She was employed at Winona Knitting Mills until her retirement.

Survivors include her husband, Thomas of Winona; five daughters, Debra Brink, Winona, Sandra (Todd) Schmieg, Winona, Mary (Greg)Tyler, Plano, TX, Lori (Scott) Jackels, Winona, and Terri Holmay, Winona; fourteen grandchildren; her mother-in-law, Myrtle Holmay of Winona; a brother, Clifford Hatlevig, Winona; three sisters, Ruth Arndt and Evelyn O'Brien, both of Winona and Jean Kilipip, Milwaukee, WI; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Melvin.

Funeral services will be Thursday, February 10 at 2 p.m. at Watkowski-Pronschinske Funeral Chapel with Rev. Robert G. Meyer officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery.

Friends may call Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home and on Thursday one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. A closing vigil service will be held at 8 p.m. Wednesday.

Pallbearers will be Todd Schmieg, Greg Tyler, Scott Jackels, Tom Brink, Tina Brink, Jeremy Burt and Terri Burt.

Sievers, Luella Hulda
Luella Hulda Sievers, 88, 1635 Service Drive, Winona, died Tuesday, February 8, 2000 at Sauer Memorial Home.

Luella was born February 23, 1911 in Wilson Township, MN, the daughter of Caroline (Luedtke) and Henry Lafky. She married Carl Werr. He died in 1970. She married Arnold Sievers. He died in 1975.

She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Wilson, MN.

Survivors include cousins, Mamie Tarras and Adeline Bunke, both of Winona; and Gordon Lafka of Goodview, MN.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husbands.

Funeral services will be at 2:30 p.m.Thursday, February 10 at Fawcett-Junker Funeral Home with Rev. David Pries, interim pastor for Trinity Lutheran Church officiating. Interment will be in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, Wilson.

Friends may call after 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be directed to the donor's choice.

Morris, John Timothy "Tim"
John Timothy "Tim" Morris, 72, 165 East Fourth St., died Tuesday, January 25, 2000 at his home.

Tim was born in Aberdeen, WA, on February 12, 1927 to John C. and Harriet M. (Krush) Morris.

He was a World War II veteran serving in the U.S. Marine Corps.

Tim was very proud of his sons and grandchildren.

He is survived by sons, Timothy S. (Karla) Morris and their son, Luke, of Winona, and Jamie J. Morris and his children, Kasey, Lindsay and Mandy, of Winona; and a brother, James C. (Pat) Morris, Cincinnati, OH.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Muriel.

Graveside services were Friday, January 28 at St. Mary's Cemetery.

Fawcett-Junker Funeral Home assisted the family with the arrangements.

Sheely, Elbert F. "Buck"
Elbert F. "Buck" Sheely, Adams, MN, died Friday, January 21, 2000 at Adams Health Care Center.

He was born October 13, 1905 in What Cheer, IA. On July 16, 1929 he married Lavina A. Moss at the Methodist Church in Blue Earth, MN.

They farmed in the Fairmont and Milaca, MN. areas before moving their family to Rose Creek, MN in 1949, to farm. From 1953-1965 they farmed near Dexter. They moved to Taopi, MN in 1965. Mr. Sheely's wife died in 1969, after which he returned to Dexter, MN., residing there until early 1995. He entered the Adams Health Care Facility in February of 1995.

He liked to play cards, especially cribbage, and he liked to hunt, fish and make toys for his children, grandchildren, and the Health Care Facility.

Survivors include three daughters, Genevieve Bartz of Winona, Elvera Ellenbaum of Sioux Falls, SD, and Darlene Ulwelling of Stewartville, MN; four sons, Harold (Doris) of Dexter, MN, Darold (Mary Jo) of Elkton, MN, Robert (Elsie) of Rose Creek, MN, and Michael of Rochester, MN; fifteen grandchildren; thirty-three great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, one son John, two grandsons, four brothers and three sisters.

Funeral services were Monday, January 24 at United Methodist Church in Dexter, MN, with Rev. Tom Wilson officiating. Burial was in the Dexter Cemetery.

Casketbearers were Curt Sheely, David Sheely, Steven Sheely, Brenda Sheely, Jeffrey Sheely, and Sheila Ulwelling.

Honorary casketbearers were Betty Rusert, Sandra Ulwelling, Lori Brown, Kathy Jo Bartz-Omwamba, Sharon Siewert, DeAnna Sheely, Susan Crews, Cindy Jensen, and Kasey Sheely.

Organist was Lorraine Westfall.
