Al-Saeed, Mustafa Wadie
Mustafa Wadie Al-Saeed, son of Wadie and Jennifer Al-Saeed, born to this world on January 4, 2000, departed this earth on January 27, 2000, losing a courageous battle to hypoplastic left heart disease.

While Mustafa's days with us were few, he touched many lives. He was visited by many family and friends throughout his hospitalization. While he may have lost his battle after open heart surgery only days into his life, we are all stronger for having known him and we received the blessings of family and friendship through our togetherness.

Mustafa means "Chosen One, " and while we may never comprehend why he was chosen to go with God so early, we will never forget the strength and sense of family that he brought to all of us.

Mustafa will be lovingly remembered by: his parents, Wadie A. and Jennifer (Prodzinski) Al-Saeed, Homer, MN; maternal grandparents, Patrick and Rita Prodzinski, Homer; paternal grandparents, Abdullah and Fatima Al-Saeed, Awammia, Saudi Arabia; great-grandparents, Phyllis Scattum, Gene and Shirley Sobeck and Phyllis and Kenneth Prodzinski, all of Winona; and many aunts and uncles.

Funeral services were Friday, January 28 at the Mater Dolorosa Chapel at St. Mary's Cemetery, Winona, with Rev. James W. Hennessy officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery.

Perry, LaVerne J.
LaVerne J. Perry, 67, of 68 Valley Trail Drive, Winona, died Wednesday, January 26, 2000 at her winter home in St. Petersburg, FL.

LaVerne Josephine Lenzen was born on March 8, 1932 in Milwaukee, WI, the daughter of Alice Dorothy (Kasper) and Matthias Lenzen. She married Robert A. Perry on November 1, 1952 in Milwaukee.

They moved to Winona in 1963 and raised four daughters: Alice Perry of Eagan, MN, Colleen (Larry) DeWall of Dennison, MN, Patti (Rick) Miller of Golden, CO, and Lynda (Jim) Rickoff of Winona.

She took great pride in raising her children, being involved in their activities and spending time with the girls and her husband camping on the river. In recent years she enjoyed traveling and spending time with her five grandchildren: Aaron Litscher, Eagan, MN, Kirsten DeWall, Dennison, MN, Nick and Tony Rickoff of Winona and Jessie Miller, Golden, CO.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and a sister Lois Wiltizius of Cascade, WI.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, January 31 at the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart in Winona, with Rev. Michael J. Cronin officiating. Entombment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Winona. Friends may call from 1-3 p.m. Sunday and after 9 am. Monday at Fawcett-Junker Funeral Home, Winona. Preliminary services will be at 9:30 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Casketbearers will be Jim Rickoff, Larry DeWall, Rick Miller, Aaron Litscher, Rick Prelesnik and Ralph Wiltizius.

Memorials may be directed to The Lois Fund, Inc.which was established in memory of her sister Lois Wiltizius, who courageously fought a battle with cancer. This fund benefits cancer patients with financial support for uninsured expenses.

Fawcett-Junker Funeral Home is assisting the family with the local arrangements.

Persons, Elizabeth Jeanette
Elizabeth Jeanette Persons, age 82, of Northfield, MN and formerly of St. Charles, MN, died Friday, January 28, 2000 at the Dilley Unit in Northfield.

She was born May 19, 1917 in Tagus, ND to Rev. Eugene and Anna (Wiggle) Michel. When she was sixteen months old, her father accepted a call to serve as the missionary pastor at the Bluefields, Nicaragua Moravian Church. The family returned to the States when she was six and lived in West Salem, IL and St. Charles, MN. Elizabeth graduated from St. Charles High School in 1935 and attended Moravian College in Bethlehem, PA for 2 years.

On June 9, 1939 Elizabeth and Cyril were married at the Northfield Moravian Church. They farmed on her husband's family farm east of St. Charles. In 1963, they moved into St. Charles and retired from farming in the 1980's. She had been living in Northfield for the past year. Elizabeth was a member of the Berea Moravian Church since 1939 where she was active in the women's group and on various church committees. She devoted herself to her family, her church and the St. Charles community.

She is survived by her two sons, Kenneth (Jane) of Northfield, and Merlin of Brooklyn Center; a daughter, Shirley (Ivor) Hunt of Fountain Valley, CA; seven grandchildren: Brian, Sean, Kevin, Michelle, Gail and Dan Persons, and Andrea Hunt; five great-grandchildren: Jesse, Katelyn, Karlee, Cassandra and Destinee; a brother, Rev. Richard Michel of Gnadenhutten, OH; and a sister, Marguerite Benedett of St. Charles.

She was preceded in death by her husband, a brother, a sister and a granddaughter.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, January 31 at Berea Moravian Church in rural St. Charles with Rev. Keith Harke officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 2-6 p.m. Sunday, January 30 at Hoff Funeral Homes - St. Charles Chapel, and one hour prior to the service on Monday at the church.

Haun, Gertrude M.
Gertrude M. Haun, 86, formerly of 853 East Belleview St., died Friday, April 7, 2000 at St. Anne Hospice.

She was born August 31, 1913 in Winona to Joseph and Anna (Sieracki) Palubicki. She married Harold J. Haun on September 2, 1935 in Winona. He died June 24, 1994.

Gertrude was employed at Stager Jewelry for many years. She was a member of St. Stanislaus Kostka Parish.

She is survived by one sister, Marcella Truesdell of Winona; four sisters-in-law, Dorothy Palubicki, Gertrude Palubicki and Eileen Kryzer, all of Winona, and Estelle Palubicki of Wichita, KS; a brother-in-law, Ray (Helen) Haun of Winona; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, four brothers and four sisters.

A Mass of Christian Burial was offered Tuesday, April 11, at St. Stanislaus Kostka Church with Rev. Robert G. Meyer officiating. Burial was in St. Mary's Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Joseph, Anthony and Timothy Palubicki and Don Pelowski.

Davidshofer, Nora A. (Garcia)
Nora Amelia (Garcia) Davidshofer, 37, of 225 Washington St., died Friday, April 7, 2000 at Community Memorial Hospital, Winona.

She was born April 12, 1962, in the city of Parral, Chihuahua, Mexico, to Agustin L. and Maria de Jesus (Salas) Garcia. She married Mark F. Davidshofer on June 21, 1986 in Cd Juarez Chihuahua, Mexico.

Nora was a graduate of the University of Chihuahua, Mexico, where she earned a teaching degree. She was presently employed as a long distance operator at Sprint-Winona.

Survivors include her husband, Mark of Winona; one son, Brent Agustin; one daughter, Karen Anai, both at home; her parents, Agustin L. and Maria de Jesus (Salas) Garcia of El Paso, TX; two sisters, Rita (Gary) Garcia Hughes of Minneapolis, MN and Alma Delia (Jose) Garcia Alvillar of Juarez, Mexico; and three brothers, Jesus Miguel Garcia Salas of Juarez, Mexico, and twins Rueben and Raul Garcia Salas of Minneapolis.

Funeral services were Sunday, April 9 at Watkowski-Pronschinske Funeral Chapel with Rev. Robert G. Meyer officiating.

Memorials may be directed to Mark Davidshofer, 225 Washington St., Winona, MN 55987.

Pickart, Leo E. "Rocky"
Leo E. "Rocky" Pickart, 71, of Lewiston, MN, died Wednesday, April 5, 2000 at Winona Community Memorial Hospital.

Leo Earl Pickart was born August 8, 1928 in Winona to Orrin and Grace (Young) Pickart. Rocky married Kathleen Barnholtz in 1979. She died June 8, 1984. He then married Carol Horton on July 12, 1985 in Sioux Falls, SD.

Rocky was a veteran serving in the U.S. Army.

Rocky will be remembered as a "jack of all trades, " and prior to living in Winona County, he had lived in Las Vegas, Milwaukee, and Tucson, AZ.

Rocky is survived by his wife Carol; four daughters, Anna (Mike Kronebusch) Pickart of Winona, Vickie, Patti and Bonnie; three brothers, Don (Lila) Pickart of Milwaukee, WI, Lloyd "Lefty" (Betty) Pickart of Tucson, AZ, and Edward (Rosie) Pickart of Milwaukee; and three sisters, Marlene Peterson of Waukon, IA, Joan (Melvin) Maas and Sherry Pickart, both of Milwaukee.

He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, Kathleen and an infant son.

A memorial service was held Monday, April 10 at Hoff Funeral Homes - Burke Winona Chapel. Military honors were conducted by the American Legion of Winona.
