Schultz, Thomas W.

Thomas W. Schultz, 48, passed away Monday, February 11, 2002 in Corpus Christi, Tex.

Tom was born May 11, 1953 in Minneapolis, Minn., to Joseph and Florence Schultz.

Along with his family he was a charter member of Transfiguration Lutheran Church of Bloomington. Tom graduated from Bloomington Jefferson High School in 1971. He attended Gustavus Adolphus College and graduated with a B.S. degree from Winona State University and an M.S. from Louisiana State University.

He devoted his career to the environment as an ecologist with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, working in Wisconsin, Louisiana and Texas. He loved fishing, the outdoors and the Green Bay Packers.

Tom is survived by his wife of eight years, Tara Schultz of Corpus Christi; his father, Joe Schultz of Rollingstone, Minn.; two brothers, Joe Carl Schultz (Nancy) of Hutchinson, Minn., and Dan Schultz of Los Angeles, Cal.; a sister, Rosa Maria (Jose) Harrison of El Salvador, Central America; a niece, Michelle Schultz and a nephew, Joseph (Heather) Schultz of Eden Prairie, Minn.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Florence (Benck) Schultz and his stepmother, Lois Olson Schultz.

Tom's cheerful disposition and love of life will be sadly missed by all who knew him -- father, brothers, sister, family and friends. We praise God for his time here on earth so we could know and love him. May he now rest peacefully in the arms of the Lord.

A service was held in Corpus Christi on Saturday, February 23.

A memorial service will be held here on Friday, May 10, with visitation from 6-9 p.m., and a service at 7 p.m. at Faith Lutheran Church, 1717 Service Drive, Winona.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Tom Schultz's name to: The Nature Conservancy of Minnesota, 1313 Fifth Street SE, Suite 320, Minneapolis, MN 55414.

Coffell, Reuben

Reuben Coffell, 81, Winona, died Thursday, February 28, 2002 at Winona Community Memorial Hospital.

Reuben was born on May 25, 1920 in Flint, Mich. to Reuben and Ella (Tripp) Coffell.

He was a highly decorated World War II veteran and had been awarded a Purple Heart. Reuben lived most of his life in the Midwest and the Western United States.

He is survived by two sons, Robert (Lisa) Coffell of Lake Zurich, Ill., and Michael (Isabelle) Coffell of Grace Lake, Ill.; one daughter, Ann Hall of Wheeling, Ill.; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

The funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 4, at Hoff Funeral Homes - Rushford Chapel with Rev. Roger Michaelson officiating. Burial will be in the Lanesboro Cemetery in Lanesboro, Minn. Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Hegna, Alice (Stellpflug) Myskewitz

Alice (Stellpflug) Myskewitz Hegna, 65, died Tuesday, April 23, 2002 in Sun City, Ariz. after a long illness.

She was born July 14, 1936 to Susie and Ray Stellpflug in Trempealeau, Wis.

Survivors are six children, Greg Myskewitz of Yucaipa, Cal., Ron (Mary) Myskewitz of Blair, Wis., Kathy (Eric) Mischke of Chino Valley, Ariz., Vicky Myskewitz of Hager City, Wis., Rick Myskewitz of New Richmond, Wis., and Mark Myskewitz of Red Wing, Minn.; five grandchildren, Jennifer, Michelle and Emily Myskewitz and Lance and Danny Cook; her first husband, Fred Myskewitz of Minneapolis, Minn.; her second husband, Al Hegna of Sun City, Ariz.; a sister, Myrna Hatfield of Fort Worth, Tex.; a brother, Ken Stellpflug of Whitehall, Wis.; and many nieces and nephews.

Alice was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, three sisters and one grandson.

A memorial service is being planned for July 14, her 66th birthday, in Trempealeau, Wis.

Pletta, Joseph H.

Joseph H. Pletta, of Sun City West, Ariz., formerly of Winona and Chicago, Ill., passed away at age 81 on Thursday, April 25, 2002.

Joseph was born on January 21, 1921 in Chicago, Ill. He grew up in Chicago and was the only child of Joseph F. and Lillian Pletta. Joseph was an Eagle Scout and a draftsman before enlisting in the Air Force on April 20, 1945. He served his country as a bombardier on a B-17 during World War II. He was a POW for 13 months in Stalag Luft III, Germany until the end of the war. On April 3, 1948 he married Mary Rita Graykowski in Adams, Wis.

He spent his professional career working for the Prudential Insurance Company.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Rita Pletta of Sun City West, Ariz.; six children, Cathy (Jim) Jankowski of Peroria, Ariz., Alice (John) Hans of St. Charles, Ill., Joseph A. (Debra) Pletta of Rochester, Minn., Patricia (Ralph) Mitchell of Jeffersonville, Ohio, Theodore (Cathy) Pletta of Rochester, Minn., and Steven (Lynn) Pletta of Fargo, ND; fourteen grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will be Thursday, May 2, at 7 p.m. at the Fawcett-Junker Funeral Home in Winona, with Msgr. Roy Literski officiating. Interment will be at Fort Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis, Minn. on Friday, May 3, at 11 a.m.

Visitation will be Thursday, May 2, from 5-7 p.m. at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, donations are being accepted by the National Parkinson Foundation, Inc.

Funeral arrangements are being completed by the Fawcett-Junker Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Winona.

Theis, Alice Dorothy

Alice Dorothy Theis, 86, of Lake Winona Manor, died Friday, April 26, 2002 at Community Memorial Hospital.

Alice was born in Pipestone, Minn., on November 15, 1915, the daughter of Earl E. and Helen M. (Peterson) Wakefield. She married Leonard J. Theis on January 5, 1941 in Decorah, Iowa. He preceded her in death in 1978.

She attended school in Pipestone and New Ulm and graduated from Winona High School. She attended Winona State Teachers College, earning her B.S. in education in 1941. Alice taught school for a time. She also worked for Northwest Airlines, St. Mary's College, J.R. Watkins Co., and retired from Community Memorial Hospital in 1972 as a bookkeeper.

She was a member of Central United Methodist Church and a past member of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

She is survived by her brother, Kenneth Wakefield of Salem, SC; a sister, Beth Chapiewski of Wisconsin Rapids, Wis.; and many nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were her parents, husband, and three sisters, Ruth Konkel, Marguerite Albrecht and Jean Ziebell.

Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 2, at Fawcett-Junker Funeral Home with Rev. Mary Hurmence of Central United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 10-11 a.m.

Memorial gifts may be directed to Lake Winona Manor.

Blood, Lorraine A.

Lorraine A. Blood, 86, died Friday, April 26, 2002 at Lake Winona Manor.

She was born August 28, 1915 in Dakota, to Oscar and Amazelie (Morin) Kieselhorst. She married Earl C. Blood, Sr. on March 17, 1934 in Winona. He died October 30, 1983.

She was a member of the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart Parish.

Survivors include a daughter, Roberta (Edward) Board of Winona; a son, Earl (Kathie) Blood of Winona; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a sister, Phyllis Peterson of Spring Valley, Minn.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, a son, Robert, a grandson, two sisters and three brothers.

A Mass of Christian Burial was offered Tuesday, April 30 at the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart. Burial was in St. Mary's Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Barron Otto, Steve Otto, Chris Board, Brian Board and John Jarner.

Jorgenson, Helen Hazel

Helen Hazel Jorgenson died Saturday, April 27, 2002 at Valley View Nursing Home in Houston, Minn. She was 98 years and 5 months old.

Helen was born in Hokah, Minn. on November 27, 1903 to Lewis and Ruth (Orr) Vix. She went to Sacramento, Cal. when she was 19 years old to be with her mother's family. She married Fred Johnson in February 1926. They were married 24 years. To this union they had two children, Marjorie Ruth (Johnson) Flint and Charles Lloyd Johnson. Fred died in 1949.

Helen returned to Minnesota in 1950 to be near her family. She married Adolph Jorgenson in 1950 and they lived on a farm in Storey Valley for 41 years. Adolph died in August 1991. Helen lived in the Valley View Nursing Home for the past eight years.

She was a member of Cross of Christ Lutheran Church. She worked various jobs in the area including Belles Cafe in Houston. She will be missed by all.

Survivors include a daughter, Marjorie and son-in-law William Flint of Sacramento, Cal.; a daughter-in-law, Vi Johnson of Santa Ana, Cal.; three grandchildren, James Flint, and Robert and Susie Johnson; six
great-grandchildren, William, Lisa and James Flint, and Eric, Chris and Paul Johnson; two sisters, Winnifred Leslie of Winona and Lola Chalsm of LaCrescent, Minn.; and many nieces and nephews.

Her parents, a son, Charles Lloyd Johnson, six brothers and one sister preceded her in death.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 1, at Cross of Christ Lutheran Church with Rev. Louise Stromberg officiating. Burial will be in Stone Church Cemetery in Houston. Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday.
