McCormick, Erma

Erma McCormick, 78, Winona, died Tuesday, February 6, 2001, at St. Anne Hospice, Winona.

Erma Cecelia Scherbring was born June 21, 1922 in Brooten, Minn. to Lewis and Margaret (Lammers) Scherbring. On February 26, 1949 she married Lawrence "Mac McCormick in Rollingstone, Minn. He died December 15, 1995.

Erma was a lifelong homemaker and member of the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart Church. She was also a member of the Catholic Daughters and the Degree of Pocahontas Council 11. Erma will be remembered for her love of flowers, especially roses.

Survivors include her three daughters, Margaret (Sam) Gaustad of Forest Lake, Minn., Diana (Ken) Wilber of Trempealeau, Wis., and Julie (Randy) Florin of Winona; six grandchildren, Peter, Jennifer and Amy Gaustad, Missy Wilber and Katie and Kyle Florin; three sisters, Betty (Richard) Burnett and Luella (Robert) Wise, both of Winona, and Ardella Nilles of Rollingstone, Minn.; and a brother, Clarence (Virginia) Scherbring of Rollingstone.

Erma parents, husband "Mac, " four brothers, Gilbert, Irvin, Walter and Alvin, and three sisters, Regina, Cora and Millie preceded her in death.

A Funeral Mass was offered Friday, February 9, at the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart with Rev. John Sauer officiating. Burial was in St. Mary's Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Randy Florin, Sam Gaustad, Ken Wilber, Peter Gaustad, Dale Scherbring and Roger Lehnertz.

Hoff Funeral Home-Burke Winona Chapel assisted with the arrangements.

Erickson, Goodwin

Goodwin Erickson, 91, of 1455 West Broadway, Winona, died suddenly Tuesday, February 6, 2001.

He was born on June 28, 1909 to Edward and Randine Johnson Erickson. He married Norma E. Lee on November 18, 1939 in Winona. She preceded him in death on October 5, 1992.

Goodwin grew up in the Rushford, Minn. area where he farmed for many years, moving to Winona in 1945. He then worked at several locations, retiring from Winona State University where he was employed as a custodian.

He is a member of Central Lutheran Church.

Survivors include children, Bonnie Erickson of Vadnais Heights, Minn., David (Patricia) Erickson of Vancouver, Wash., and Karen (John) Packer of Prior Lake, Minn.; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Genevieve Erickson of Winona.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, four brothers and a sister.

Funeral services were Friday, February 9 at Central Lutheran Church with Rev. Wade E. Davick officiating. Burial was in Woodlawn Cemetery.

A memorial is being arranged by the family.

Fawcett-Junker Funeral Home assisted the family with the arrangements.

Modjeski, Victoria H.

Victoria H. Modjeski, 84, of 104 Main Street, died Wednesday, February 7, 2001 at Winona Community Memorial Hospital.

She was born March 1, 1916 in Fried, ND, to Bernard and Frances (Kiedrowski) Blaskowski. She married Edward F. Modjeski on March 4, 1935 in St. Stanislaus Church, Winona. He died July 28, 1979.

She was a member of St. Casimir's Catholic Parish and a former member of the VFW "Lady Bugs."

Victoria was an avid card player and participated in many card clubs. She was a member of the Winona Area Bowling Association for many years. She was also a member of the Winona Archery Club and a member of the Women's Auxiliary at Winona Community Memorial Hospital. .

Survivors include two sons, Kenneth (Mary) of Winona and Ronald (Gail) of Dover, Minn.; two daughters, JoAnn Weisbrod and Rose-Marie (Kevin Seales) Heer, both of Winona; seventeen grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; a brother, Francis Blaskowski of Winona; a daughter-in-law, Carol (Tom) Diekrager of Winona; and a son-in-law, Joseph Heer of Winona.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a son, Edward, four brothers and two sisters.

A Mass of Christian Burial was offered Saturday, February 10 at St. Casimir's Church, with Rev. James W. Hennessy officiating. Burial was in St. Mary's Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Joseph, Bradley and Nick Modjeski, Shawn Bergsrud, and Tony and Jon Heer.

Vicki loved butterflies and was called the "Butterfly Grandma." Her apartment was decorated with butterflies and was known as butterfly haven and now she has flown home on butterfly wings, to meet her man in the brown tweed suit.

Dickinson, Marion (Ellinghuysen)

Marion (Ellinghuysen) Dickinson died Tuesday, February 6, 2001 at Alameda, Cal.

She was born May 29, 1936 to Ferdinand and Viola Ellinghuysen in Plainview, Minn. She attended Plainview schools. After graduating from Plainview High School she attended Red Wing Nursing College and graduated as a Licensed Practical Nurse.

She is survived by two sons, Martin (Margaret) Dickinson of El Cerrito, Cal., and Michael (Kathy) Dickinson of San Leandro, Cal.; a daughter, Marilyn (David) Maron of Redding, Cal.; a granddaughter, Sarah Maron; two sisters, Leona Klassen of Plainview and Arlene Pitman of Pyatt, Ark.; three brothers, Marvin (Gladys) Ellinghuysen, Clarence Ellinghuysen, and Franklin (Bernadine) Ellinghuysen, all of Plainview; a sister-in-law, Helen Ellinghuysen of Dover, Minn.; a step-brother, Willard Mussell of New Brighton, Minn.; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a brother, a brother-in-law, a niece and a nephew.

Memorial services will be held Thursday, February 15 at 11:00 a.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Plainview with Rev. Fredrickson officiating.

Fisk, Laura B.

The Funeral Mass for Laura B. Fisk will be Tuesday, February 13, at St. Casimir's Catholic Church, 626 West Broadway, Winona, with Father Jim Hennessy officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Winona.

Mrs. Fisk, 87, of Oakland, Cal. and formerly of Winona, died Friday, February 2, 2001 at Mercy Care Center in Oakland.

Laura Belle Keesey was born May 4, 1913 to Fred E. and Margaret (McGlade) Keesey in Wisconsin. She attended elementary and high school in Wisconsin and attended Winona State Teachers College, graduating in 1954. On August 29, 1935 she married Russell A. "Boon" Fisk in Decorah, Iowa.

Laura taught school at Nodine, Minn. for six years, and was a real estate agent for Bob Selover Realty in Winona from 1958-1979. She was a member of Westfield Golf Club in Winona for many, many years, a former member of the Ladies Group at the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart, Winona, and a member of St. Casimir's Catholic Church in Winona. Laura was active in many bridge clubs.

She lived in Winona from 1937-1997 at which time she moved to California to be near her sons. She lived with her son, Russell in San Francisco for 1-1/2 years and then moved to the Mercy Care Center in Oakland. Her hobbies included golf and card playing.

Survivors include three sons, Frederick B. (Sandra) Fisk of San Anselmo, Cal., Richard K. (Gloria) Fisk, of Pacifica, Cal., and Russell J. Fisk of San Francisco, Cal.; and four grandchildren, Scott and Shannon Fisk and Tracy and Michael Kroner.

Her parents, husband, and one daughter, Barbara Kroner, preceded her in death.

Friends may call on February 13 from 9-11 a.m. at St. Casimir's Catholic Church.

Arrangements are by Schleicher Funeral Homes, Plainview Chapel, Plainview, Minn.

Henneberry, Clarice Joan

Clarice Joan Henneberry, 67, formerly of 456 East Sanborn, died Wednesday, February 7, 2001 at Sauer Memorial Home in Winona.

Clarice was born June 6, 1933, in Winona, to Dorothy (Dahm) and Edmund Kierlin. She was a graduate of Cathedral High School in 1951. She married Roger Allen Henneberry on May 3, 1958 at the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart, Winona. He died April 8, 1998.

Clarice worked for ten years as a clerk for Winona Abstract Co. She later moved to Shirley, Ark., where she was employed for ten years at Red River Reality. She returned to Winona in September of 2000.

She is survived by her daughter, Becky (Keith) Zimmerman of Russellville, Ark.; two sons, Dennis and Timothy J. (Cassandra) Henneberry, both of Little Rock, Ark.; grandchildren, Derek and John Allan Zimmerman and Dade and Gillian Marie Henneberry; a brother, Robert Kierlin and Mary Burrichter, Winona; and two sisters, Colleen Quade of Winona and Dorothy Henneberry of Decatur, Ill.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and a sister, Doris.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Saturday, February 10, at St. Stanislaus Kostka Church with Revs. Daniel Dernek and Paul Nelson co-celebrants. Interment was in St. Mary's Cemetery.

Memorials may be directed to the Winona Area Hospice Services.

Meistad, Bruce L.

Bruce L. Meistad, 51, of Houston, died Wednesday, February 7, 2001, of an apparent heart attack while at work in Rushford, Minn.

Bruce was born on March 20, 1949, in Chippewa Falls, Wis. to Gordon and Betty (Walters) Meistad. He was raised in Arcadia, Wis. and graduated from Arcadia High School in 1967. Bruce married Kay Pfister on October 31, 1970.

He graduated from the University of Wisconsin ­ Eau Claire in 1971, with a bachelor's degree in business administration and accounting.

Bruce worked for the Internal Revenue Service for two years. He worked for the Riverland Energy Cooperative in Arcadia from 1975 to 1982. Bruce moved to Houston, Minn. in 1982 and served as the Chief Executive Officer for Tri-County Electric Cooperative in Rushford from 1982 until the time of his death.

Bruce was a member of the Onalaska United Methodist Church in Onalaska, Wis., the Houston School Board, and the Houston Economic Development Authority.

Bruce was an exceptional Husband, Dad, Brother, Son-In-Law, Boss, and Friend. His interests included woodworking, yard work, and travel.

Bruce is survived by his wife Kay; one son, Lane Meistad of Houston; one daughter, Angela Meistad of Houston. Six sisters: Karen (Gaylord) Metzler of Whitehall, Wis., Kathy (Bob) Erickson of Arcadia, Wis., Jean (Rick) Reuter of Waumandee, Wis., Mary Gilbertson of Arcadia, Wis., Beth (Charlie) Loeffler of Geneva, Ill., and Terrie Mynhier of Norfolk, Virginia; and Many nieces and nephews.

His parents preceded him in death.

The funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, February 12, at the Onalaska United Methodist Church in Onalaska, Wis. with the Rev. Bruce Bartel officiating. Friends may call from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 11, at Hoff Funeral Homes ­ Houston Chapel and one hour prior to the service on Monday at the church. Following the Funeral service Bruce's Body will be cremated with burial in the spring.
