Ladewig, Nollan James
Nollan James Ladewig, infant son of Mike and Ida Ladewig, Lewiston, Minn., was stillborn Tuesday, June 12, 2001 at Winona Community Memorial Hospital.

In addition to his parents he is survived by five brothers and sisters, Jessica, Collin, Dillon, Marissa, and Kassandra; maternal grandparents, Larry Ehlenfeldt of Stockton, Minn., and Jim and Ruth Lang of Lewiston; paternal grandparents, Judy Ladewig of Winona and Roger Ladewig of Ridgeway, Minn.; maternal great-grandparents, Eleanor Wilson of Lewiston and Sylvester and Millie Lang of Truman, Minn.; aunts and uncles, Brian (Kristi) Ehlenfeldt, Lori (Jon) Clerk, Chad Lang, Troy (Carrie) Lang, Scott Lang, Kelly Ladewig, and Molly (Tom Kramer) Ladewig; and many cousins.

He was preceded in death by an uncle.

Funeral services were Tuesday, June 19 at Hoff Funeral Home's - Lewiston Chapel with Chaplain Kathy Redig officiating. Burial was in Lewiston Public Cemetery.

Nollan's family would like to thank their nurses, Susan and Katrina for their help and compassion.

Dahnert, Wilbert P.
A memorial service for Wilbert P. Dahnert was held Friday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Rochester, Minn., with Rev. John Rasmussen officiating. Burial was in Oakwood Cemetery.

Mr. Dahnert, 87, of 1517 Eighth Avenue NE, Rochester, former owner of Zumbro Beauty Shop, died Sunday, June 3, 2001 at Red Wing Health Center following a lengthy illness.

He was born October 16, 1913 in Winona, where he attended school. He then moved to Austin, where he was a barber. During World War II he served with the Army Military Police in Europe, Africa, and the Middle East. After his discharge he moved to Rochester and owned and operated Zumbro Beauty Shop until his retirement in 1990. On July 5, 1935 he married Lillah Luehmann in Minneapolis. She is a homemaker.

Mr. Dahnert was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and its Men's Club, and Rochester VFW Post 1215.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Roger of Rochester and Michael (Cindy) of Monroe, LA.; a daughter, Joan Baker of Fort Collins, Colo.; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

A brother preceded him in death.

Memorials are suggested to Trinity Lutheran Church.

Ranfranz Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Logan, Sister Nora
Sister Nora Logan, 86, a Franciscan Sister of the Congregation of Our Lady of Lourdes, Rochester, Minn., who served as personnel director, died June 17, 2001 at Assisi Heights, Rochester.

Born Irene Frances Logan on February 9, 1915 in Stewartville, Minn., Sister Nora entered the Franciscan Congregation from St. Bernard Parish. She made profession of vows in 1944 and began her study and prefecting at the College of Saint Teresa, Winona. From 1945-1969 Sister Nora served at St. Mary's Hospital, Rochester, as personnel director and religious superior. She was then assigned to the College of Saint Teresa from 1969-1989 as director of student loans and grants. Sister also served on the finance and retirement committees for the Rochester Franciscans and was on the Arbitration Board of the Winona Diocese. Sister Nora retired to Assisi Heights in 1989 due to illness. She celebrated her golden jubilee in 1994.

Sister Nora is survived by her Franciscan Community and by one brother, John Logan of Winona; and six sisters, Sisters Fidelis, OSF and Neal Logan, OSF, of Rochester, Pauline Zweber of White Bear, Minn., Alicia DeLuca and Dolores Vidmar of San Francisco, Cal., and Charlotte McConnell of St. Augustine, Fla.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, June 20, at 11 a.m. in the Chapel of Our Lady of Lourdes with Rev. Jack Krough officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call at Assisi Heights until the time of the service on Wednesday.

Watkowski, Joseph R.
Joseph R. Watkowski, 88, of 1125 Highway 43, Winona, died Monday, June 181, 2001 at Winona Community Memorial Hospital.

He was born February 5, 1913 in Winona to Leonard J. and Victoria (Jezewski) Watkowski. He married Sheila King on August 25, 1942 in St. Mary's Church, Winona. She died February 21, 1993.

Mr. Watkowski owned and operated Watkowski Funeral Home until his retirement in 1986.

He was a member of St. Stanislaus Kostka Parish, Winona Athletic Club, Polish Heritage Society, Polish Museum, and the Knights of Columbus Council #639.

Survivors include a son, Joseph P. Watkowski and a daughter, Ann R. Watkowski, both of Winona.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and three sisters.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered Wednesday, June 20, at 4 p.m. at St. Stanislaus Kostka Church with Msgr. Roy E. Literski and Rev. Daniel R. Dernek concelebrating the Mass. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery.

Friends may call Wednesday from 3 p.m. until time of the Mass at the church.

Kopperud, Dorothy E.
Dorothy E. Kopperud, 69, Peterson, Minn., died Saturday, June 16, 2001 at St. Mary's Hospital, Rochester, Minn.

Dorothy Elizabeth Knutson was born November 19, 1931 to George and Francis (Utpoff) Knutson in Winona. On September 12, 1953 she married Ernest A. Kopperud in Winona.

Dorothy and her husband Ernie lived in Rochester, Minn. for 35 years where she worked at the Rochester Post Bulletin. In 1988 they moved to Amaco Lake, Wis., and came to Peterson in 1993.

Dorothy was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Peterson. She loved collecting antiques and enjoyed searching for them at auctions, flea markets and garage sales.

Survivors include her husband, Ernie; one son, Craig Kopperud of Rochester; and two brothers, Norman (Betty) Knutson of New Auburn, Wis. and Marion Knutson of Fountain City, Wis.

Preceding her in death were her parents and a sister, Christine.

A memorial service is planned for Wednesday, June 20, at 2 p.m. at Grace Lutheran Church in Peterson with Peter Huggenvik officiating. Interment will be in the West Grace Lutheran Cemetery. Friends may call from 1 p.m. until the time of service at the church on Wednesday. There will be no reviewal.

Baer, Olga Aletha
Olga Aletha Baer, 94, of Rt. 1, Utica, Minn., died Monday, June 18, 2001 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Home, Rushford, Minn.

Olga was born May 10, 1907 in Peterson, Minn. to John and Josephine (Quickstad) Ferden. She graduated from Peterson High School in 1927 and worked for Northwestern Hotel and Restaurant in Rushford. Olga and Paul M. Baer were married November 20, 1930 at the North Prairie Lutheran parsonage. They lived in Fremont until moving to Whitehall, Wis. in 1936 where they owned and operated a hardware store. In 1946 they returned to Fremont where they farmed. Olga was a homemaker. The couple wintered in Arizona for several years. She entered Good Shepherd Home in January of 1997. Paul died October 22, 1997.

She was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Lewiston and was active in the church Circle. She also belonged to the Sunshine Club, Fremont Birthday Club, and the Rebekah Lodge.

Survivors include three children, Helen (Robert) Henry of Oakdale, Roger (Rita) Baer of Lewiston, and Robert (Becky) Baer of Lewiston; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a sister, Viola Shervin of LaCrescent, Minn.

A son, John William, four brothers, and two sisters preceded her in death.

Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at First Presbyterian Church in Lewiston with Rev. Tim Gerarden officiating. Burial will be in Fremont Scotch Cemetery. Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday at Hoff Funeral Home's - Lewiston Chapel. They may also call one hour before services Thursday at the church.

Huff, Frederic J.
Frederic J. Huff, age 62 of Route #3, Winona, MN, died Sunday, June 24, 2001 at his home after a long battle with cancer.

He was born July 14, 1938 in Winona to Clemons and Dorothy (Styba) Huff. He was a 1956 graduate of Winona High School, and went on to serve the National Guard for four years.

Frederic was employed at and retired from Northern States Power Company after 33 years. He married Dianne Trainor in 1962 and they later divorced.

He will be sadly missed by his children: Lindsay Huff, Michael Huff, Patrick (Laurie Rossin-Huff), James and Kirsten Speis. Ten Grandchildren: Phillip, Ian, Derek, Zack, Kelly, Chelsea, Brooke, Lindsay and Preajon Frederic, a special aunt, "Ann, " and his buddy, "Charlie."

He was preceded in death by his parents, Clem and Dorothy and a son-in-law, Charlie Speis and many aunts and uncles. Fred's wishes were to be cremated with a simple service for family and friends to be held at his farm. The Reverend Daniel R. Dernek will officiate. Services will be held Wednesday, June 27, 2001 at the farm at 4:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that memorials be directed to Gundersen Lutheran Hospice Care. Church, Ruth Eileen
Ruth Eileen Church, 73, of 157 W. Third St., Winona, MN, died Friday, June 22, 2001 in Custer, South Dakota. She was born in Terre Haute, IN on November 13, 1927 to Orin and Helen (Tinkle) Eldred.

She married Ellwyn W. Church on Sept, 17, 1949 in Seelyville, IN. He preceded her in death on Sept. 3, 1973.

Ruth worked as an emergency room nurse for many years at Union Hospital in Terre Haute. She also worked as a parish nurse and home care nurse in Minneapolis, MN. Ruth volunteered her time to Park House AIDS Hospice, the Kerlin Children's Book Collection of Minneapolis and the Minneapolis Public Library. After coming to Winona she became an active volunteer for the Winona County Historical Society.

She is a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, Terre Haute, IN. Ruth loved her pets, her rabbit book and children's collections, nature. Her grandson, Bryan held a very special place in her heart.

Survivors are her children - John (Rosemary) Church, Akeley, MN., daughters Jane (Stanley) Cameron, Lanesville, IN, and Jean Church and her friend Lynn Wolter of Arcadia, WI. A grandson Bryan Cameron. A brother Jack (Sally) Eldred, Haines City, FL.; a sister Robert Altman, Terre Haute, In., and two half sisters Norman Weston of Indiana and Rosemary Layher of Georgia.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brothers -- Hubert, Herman Russell, and Roy Eldred; sisters Mildred Eldred, Thelma Dill and Dorothy Bartenbach.

Graveside Memorial Services will be held at a later date in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Terre Haute, IN.

Memorial gifts may be given to Winona County Historical Society or Winona County Humane Society. Fawcett-Junker Funeral Home and Cremation Services.

Fakler, Anne H.
Anne H. Fakler, 92, of the Sauer Memorial Home, and formerly of 67 West Sanborn, died Thursday, June 21st at the Sauer Home. She was born in Lewiston, MN. on April 24, 1909 to William and Anna (Wolkman) Duane.

On May 31, 1939 she married Jerome "Jerry" Fakler at Lewiston. He preceded her in death on March 30, 1990.

Anne was a member of the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart and the Catholic Daughters. Anne is a former member of the Westfield Golf Club and the Winona Country Club. She enjoyed playing golf and bridge.

She is survived by a son -- Duane (Jan) Fakler, Winona; a daughter -- Sharon (David) Hagen, Elk River, MN.; grandchildren -- Spencer, Ally, Justin, and Leah.

A Mass of Christian celebration was held Monday, June 25, 2001 at the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart, Rev. Shawn T. Haremza officiating. Interment was in the St. Mary's cemetery, Winona.

Casket bearers were Greg Hagen, Thomas Branson, Todd and Scott Fakler, James Martin, Stanley Serwa.

Memorial gifts may be given to Winona Area Hospice Services. Fawcett-Junker Funeral Home and Cremation Services.
