Unnasch, Avis

Avis Unnasch, 91, of Houston died Thursday, July 11, 2002, at the Valley View Nursing Home in Houston. She was born on June 11, 1911, at Looney Valley of Houston County, Minnesota to Hans and Stena (Westby) Feller. Avis was raised at Looney Valley. She married Merton Unnasch on June 16, 1937 at the Looney Valley Lutheran Church. She was a lifetime member of the Looney Valley Lutheran Church where she was baptized, confirmed, a circle member, and active in the Do-day monthly quilting group. Avis and Merton farmed near Ridgeway until moving to Houston in 1999. Avis enjoyed quilting, crocheting, gardening, and traveling. Her travels included four trips to Europe. She was a member of the Valley View Nursing Home Auxiliary, where she did mending work. Avis is survived by three sons: Merton Keith (Heidi) Unnasch of Manterville, Minn.; Richard (Winnie) Unnasch of Chatfield, Minn., and Jerome (Sharon) Unnasch of Houston, Minn.; two daughters: Faye Foster of Waverly, Kentucky, and Diane (Ron) Wright of Apple Valley, Minn.; 13 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; two brothers-in-law: George Olson and Myron Unnasch; and two sisters- in-law: Wilma Unnasch and Fern Feller, all of Houston. Avis was preceded in death by her husband, two sisters, and five brothers.
The funeral service was 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 13, at the Looney Valley Lutheran Church in rural Houston with the Rev. Kris Fahey officiating. Burial was in the Silver Creek Cemetery in rural Houston. Hoff Funeral Homes ­ Houston Chapel.

Beyers, Jean Marie

Friday, January 31, 2003, Jean 'Jeanie Martini' Beyers, 46, beloved wife, mother, friend and local jazz vocalist died after a hard-fought battle with illness.
She was a gifted singer, whose voice brought much pleasure to many listeners over the course of the last 25 years. She was brought back to public performance by Denny Martin, to appear with his big band and combo, and most recently treated audiences in two bands - 'Jeanie Martini and the Olives' and 'Billy Curmano's New X Art Ensemble.' Her love of music was evident in the sheer joy and life of her interpretations.
Jean's friends knew her to be a very caring, genuine, and fun-loving person. She took great pleasure and enjoyment in life from her personal associations, growing flowers in her garden, going for long walks, and just spending time with her family. Throughout her life, her radiant smile was enough to brighten the spirits of those who knew her. She will be sorely missed.
Jean Marie was born May 28, 1956, in Winona, to Robert J. and Lucille (Logelin) Cichanowski. She married Steven J. Beyers on June 15, 1984, in St. Stanislaus Kostka Church, Winona.
She is lovingly survived by her husband, Steven of Winona; three children, Sam, Lucy and Grace, all at home; her father, Robert Cichanowski of Winona; four brothers, Thomas, Michael (Linda) and their two children, Amy and Heather, and David and Gerald Cichanowski, all of Winona; and a sister, Mary Cichanowski, and her son, Jesse Reed of Winona.
She was preceded in death by her mother.
A funeral service was held Monday, February 3, at Pleasant Valley Evangelical Free Church with Pastor Rick Iglesias officiating. Interment was in St. Mary's Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Steve Smith, Billy Curmano, Scott Becker, Mike Sandeen, Jim Degnan and Mark Christensen.
Memorials may be directed to the Gift of Life Transplant House. The family encourages everyone to sign organ donor cards.

Link, Lucille

Lucille M. Link, 93, of Black River Falls, Wis., and formerly of Alma Center, Wis., died Thursday, January 30, 2003, at Pine View Care Center in Black River Falls.
Funeral services were Tuesday, February 4, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with burial in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, both in Alma Center, Wis.

Moore, Violet

Violet V. Moore, 81, died Friday, January 31, 2003, at Lake Winona Manor.
Violet was born November 17, 1921, in Hart Township, Winona County, to Arthur and Genevieve Henze Antonson. She married Blan Moore. They were later divorced.
She is a former member of Bethany Moravian Church at Bethany.
She is survived by a brother, Richard Antonson of Goodview, Minn.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter, Marlene Moore, and a sister, Frances.
Graveside services will be held Wednesday, February 5, at 10 a.m. at Oak Grove Cemetery, Rushford, Minn.

Lash, Norman A. "Pete"

Norman A. "Pete" Lash, 80, of Fountain City, Wis., died Sunday, February 2, 2003, in Fountain City.
He was born July 9, 1922, in Jackson County, Wis.
Memorial services will be Friday, February 7, at 11 a.m. at Fawcett-Junker Funeral Home in Fountain City. Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in the spring in the Fountain City Public Cemetery.

Gonides, Marlene L.

Marlene L. Gonides, 63, of Goodview, Minn., died Wednesday, January 29, 2003.
She was born January 6, 1940, in Rushford, Minn., to Walter and Harriet (Erdmann) Nelson.
She is survived by her children: Steven Salisbury of Winona, Tammy (Curt) Glenna, Minnesota City, Minn., and Demetrious Gonides of Winona; grandchildren: Brandy Salisbury, Nicole Glenna and Katelyn Glenna, whom she loved dearly; a sister, JoAnn (Charles) Brand of Rushford, Minn.; a brother, Corey Rogers of LaCrosse, Wis.; her former mother-in-law, Esther Salisbury, with whom she shared a very close relationship; as well as many other relatives and friends.
Her parents preceded her in death.
Marlene was a member of St. Martin's Evangelical Lutheran Church. She worked for many years as the front desk manager at the Winona Holiday Inn.
Funeral services were Saturday, February 1, at St. Martin's Evangelical Lutheran Church, with Rev. Frederick Buth officiating. Burial was in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery, Hart, Minn.
Pallbearers were Randy Luhmann, Brandon Luhmann, Timothy Brand, William Schoenack, Noel Salisbury, and Aaron Pruka.

Kluender, Daniel George

Daniel George Kluender, 78, 4785 West Sixth St., died Sunday, February 2, 2003, at St. Anne Extended Healthcare.
He was born August 16, 1924, in Faribault County, Walters, Minn., to George S. and Matie C. (Wagner) Kluender. He married Esther S. Vnuk on February 27, 1973, in Galena, Ill.
He was employed at Badger Machine, Warner Swasey for 22 years, and later worked as a general foreman at FMC Minneapolis for 13 years, from which he retired.
Daniel was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Parish, the Winona Athletic Club, and Winona Senior Center.
He is survived by his wife, Esther of Winona; two daughters, Julie (Frank) Grulkowski of Germany, and Susan (Tony) Hassinger of Minnesota City, Minn.; four stepchildren, Jim (Romelle) Baertsch of Eyota, Minn., Janice (David) Rolbiecki of Eagan, Minn., Jerry (Jan) Baertsch of Winona, and Jeff (Donna) Baertsch of Fountain City, Wis.; fifteen grandchildren; one great-grandchild; two brothers, Alvin (Elaine) Kluender of Walters, Minn., and David (Evelyn) Kluender of Brycely, Minn.; and a sister, Pearl (Putz) Dumm of Mapleton, Minn.
Daniel was loved and will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered Thursday, February 6, at 1:30 p.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery.
Friends may call Wednesday from 5-7 p.m. at Watkowski-Pronschinske Funeral Home, where a Christian Wake Service will be held at 6 p.m. Friends may also call on Thursday at the Commons at St. Mary's Church from 12:30 p.m. until time of the Mass.
Pallbearers will be Jerod, Jim and Kenny Baertsch, Bob Dunn, and Paul and Ryan Hassinger.

Ahern, Thomas R.

Thomas Robert Ahern, 85, of St. Anne Extended Healthcare, died Friday, January 31, 2003, in the Emergency Room of Community Memorial Hospital, Winona, Minn. He was born in Albert Lea, Minn., on July 3, 1917, to Tehobald J. and Cathryn (Dwyer) Ahern.
He earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Mankato State University. On April 18, 1944, he married Kathleen A. Berendt in Mankato, Minn.
Thomas served in the U.S. Army during World War II in Company D of the 139 Infantry Division. He fought in the Aleutin Campaign and also in the Asiatic Pacific Theatre.
He first worked in retail sales with J.C. Penney, Tempo and Gamble Skogmo stores.
From 1973 to 1987 he was the sales and marketing instructor at Albert Lea Vocational Technical Institute.
Prior to moving to Winona in 1998 he had resided in Ellendale and Beaver Lake, Minn., and Mission, Texas.,
Tom is a member and Past Grand Knight of Council #2768, Knights of Columbus, Albert Lea, Minn., and its Fourth Degree General Assembly. He is past president of the Waseca, Minn., Chamber of Commerce. He has also been recognized by the Albert Lea Chapter of Delta Epsilon Chi of the Distributive Education Clubs of America and by the Freeborn County Association for Retarded Citizens. He is a member of the American Legion and VFW Posts of Albert Lea, Minn.
He is survived by his wife, Kathleen, of St. Anne Extended Healthcare; sons, Patrick (friend, Donna) Ahern, Golden, Col., Michael Ahern, Memphis, Tenn., and his children, Sarah, Thomas and Timothy. Daughters, Bridget (Brian) Ender, Winona, Minn., Colleen (Jerry) Sorenson, Las Vegas, Nev., and her children, T.J. McMahon and Erin Sorenson; sister-in-law, Patti Berendt, St. Paul, Minn.; nieces and nephews.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.
Funeral services for Tom were Tuesday, February 4, 2003, at St. Anne Extended Healthcare, Rev. Joseph Keefe of St. Mary's Catholic Church officiating.
Interment will be at St. Theodore's Catholic Cemetery, Albert Lea, Minn., in the spring.
Memorial gifts may be directed to the Alzheimer's Foundation.

Case, Geraldine M.

Geraldine Mae Case, 67, of Fountain City, Wis., died Thursday, January 30, 2003, at St. Mary's Hospital, Rochester, Minn. She was born in Winona on July 28, 1935, the daughter of Atwell and Gertrude (Lence) Newell.
She was united in marriage on March 27, 1953, in Winona to Jack D. Case. Geraldine was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.
Gerry is survived by her husband, Jack, of Fountain City; children, Michael Case, Seymour, Wis., Douglas (Jane) Case, Watertown, S.D., Karen (Steven) Tibben, Kasson, Minn., Karla (Roger) Hemker, Winona; 8 grandchildren, Jessica, Danielle, Jake, Zach, Brock, Madison, Logan, and Luke. Three brothers, Charles (Shirley) Newell and Joseph (Frances) Newell, both of Winona and John (Helen) Newell, Fountain City, Wis.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and a sister, Beverly Tolleson.
Memorial service for Gerry were on Tuesday, February 4, 2003, at 12 Noon at the Fawcett- Junker Funeral Home, Rev. John Parr of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Fountain City, Wis., officiating.
Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Winona, Minn.
