Meyer, Isabelle
Caroline Emma "Isie"
Isabelle Caroline Emma "Isie" Meyer, 88, Lewiston, Minn., died Saturday, July 12, 2003, at the Lewiston Villa.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 16, at St. Paul's UCC/ELCA in Lewiston with Rev. Roy Rogers officiating. Burial will be in the Lewiston Public Cemetery.

Schmidtknecht, Russell J.
Russell J. Schmidtknecht, 74, of Bluff Siding, Wis., died Saturday, July 12, 2003, at his home.
Russell Joseph was born May 9, 1929, in Fountain City, Wis., to William and Agnes (Zimmerman) Schmidtknecht. On April 24, 1954, he married Ardyth Doebbert in Fountain City.
He served his country in the Army Paratroopers from 1950-1952.
He spent most of his working life as a machinist in the Chicago area. In May 1983, he returned to the Fountain City area.
He was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ in Fountain City.
He is survived by his wife, Ardyth; a daughter, Terri (Robert) Soldner, of Juneau, Wis.; a son, Dale (LuAnn) Schmidtknecht, of Fountain City; grandchildren, Shelby and Craig Soldner, and Amy and John Schmidtknecht; and four very special little children, Rachel and Emily Burfiend, and Dayne and Wade Katula, who lovingly called him Pa Pa Russ.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Elaine and Mary.
A memorial service will be held Friday, July 18, at 7 p.m. at St. John's United Church of Christ in Fountain City, with Kathy Redig, Hospice and Hospital Chaplain presiding. Friends and family may call at the church for visitation with the family from 5 p.m. to the time of services on Friday. Private family interment will be at a later date.
A memorial is being arranged.

Harm, Terrie L.
Terrie L. Harm, 56, died Sunday, July 13, 2003, at the Strum Nursing Home in Strum, Wis.
She was born January 4, 1947, in Mondovi, Wis., the daughter of Alton and Lorraine (Munson) Goodermote.
She had been employed at the Buffalo Memorial Manor and American Lutheran Home in Mondovi as a nurse's aide for many years, and most recently at the Strum Nursing Home. She was a member of Central Lutheran Church in Mondovi.
She is survived by three sons, Tracy (Cassandra), of Fountain City, Wis., David (Vicki), of Lockport, N.Y., and Dan (Jayme), of Durand, Wis.; eight grandchildren; two sisters, Germaine (Clarence) Schwanke, of Winona, and Bonnie (Jack) Galebides, of South Amboy, N.J.; a brother, Harold (Judy) Goodermote, of Appleton, Wis.; aunts, nieces and nephews; and a special cat Susie Q.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Friday, July 18, at Central Lutheran Church in Mondovi, with Rev. James Tallman officiating. Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. Thursday and 8-11 a.m. Friday at Poeschel Funeral Home in Mondovi, and one hour prior to services at the church on Friday.

Burfeind, Milda A.
Milda Arlene (Sorum) Burfeind, 76, of Lewiston, died Thursday (July 10, 2003) at Altenheim Nursing Home, in Strongsville, Ohio, where she received special care for Alzheimer's Disease.
She was born June 14, 1927, in Rushford to Lewis and Inga (Jensen) Sorum. As a young woman, Milda grew up on a farm outside of Rushford. Following high school, she attended secretarial school in Mankato and later worked in retail in Winona.
She married Leonard Burfeind in Winona on Sept. 9, 1949 and moved to the family farm on Mecklenburg Ridge, Warren Township, near Stockton, Minn. Milda helped manage a 360-acre operation and raised a family of four daughters. She was a longtime member and Sunday School teacher of Grace Lutheran Church in Stockton, a member of Warren Township Homemakers and Green Thumbs in Lewiston, a Winona County 4-H leader and volunteered at Lewiston Elementary School. She was a music lover and enjoyed dancing, singing and playing the organ.
Milda is survived by her four daughters, Dorothy Bach of Honolulu, Barbara Burfeind-Barbante of Fairfax, Va., Joyce Petrovic of Brecksville, Ohio, and Karen Burfeind of California, Md.; four grandchildren, Adrian and Kathryn Barbante and Marissa and Nathan Petrovic; a brother, Lawrence Sorum of Rushford; and a sister, Clarice Grotjohn of Winona. She was preceded in death by her husband Leonard Burfeind in July 1995. Following his death, Milda lived in Lewiston before moving in with her daughters in 1998 and visiting all of them frequently. In May 2002, she moved to Altenheim.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday July 19, at Hoff Funeral Home's ­ Lewiston Chapel. Friends may call on Saturday, July 19 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial services will follow at Mecklenburg Cemetery, Warren Township. The family asks that any donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association.

Edwards, Frank C.
Frank C. Edwards, 89, of St. Charles died Saturday July 12, 2003, at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester.
Frank was born October 13, 1913, in Utica to Charles and Mary (Olson) Edwards. He and Bernice Nuszloch were married on February 18, 1939 at Bethany. They farmed near Utica until moving to St. Charles in the fall of 1959. He then worked in several farm related jobs and as a custodian at St. Charles Elementary School for more than 20 years. Frank enjoyed gardening, horses, baseball and playing cards. He was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church in St. Charles and had served on the Utica School Board. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
Frank enjoyed the last months of his life at St. Charles Assisted Living. For Frank a good day was a day full of hard work.
Survivors include his wife Bernice, two sons, Larry (Maureen) Edwards of Faribault and Roger (Lee) Edwards of Wabasha, two daughters, Joanne (Larry) Small of St. Charles and Karen (Jack) Henry of Dover, 17 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, sic great great-grandchildren and a brother Curt (Kathryn) Edwards of St. Charles. His parents, and three brothers, Robert, Donald and Clarence preceded Frank in death.
Funeral Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at St. Matthew Lutheran Church with the Rev. Michael Hart officiating. Cremation will follow with burial at Hillside Cemetery in St. Charles. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at Hoff Funeral Home's ­ St. Charles Chapel. They may also call one hour before services at the church.

Hunger, Jennie J.
Jennie J. Hunger, age 91, of Winona and formerly of Fountain City, Wis., died on Friday, July 11, 2003, at Sauer Memorial Home, Winona.
Jennie Julia was born on April 10, 1912 in Winona County, Minnesota to August Henry and Mabel Louise Anna (Carlson) Jacob. On April 15, 1939, she married Walter W. Hunger in Winona, Minn. He preceded her in death on July 20, 1996. They farmed in Buffalo County, Wis., retiring about 1984 and after retirement, they moved to Winona.
Jennie enjoyed gardening, needlework, the outdoors and was proud to be a farmer. She greatly apprecitated having visitors anytime.
She was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ, Fountain City, Wis.
She is survived by two sons, Marvin (Audrey) Hunger, Winona and Donald Hunger, Augusta, Ga.; two daughters, Beverly (Walter) Brand, Winona and Corrine (Geoff) Bateman, Adelaide, Australia; four grandchildren; two step grandchildren; five great grandchildren; two brothers, Earl Jacob, Red Granite, Wisconsin and Arnold (Sylvia) Jacob, Lewiston, Minn.; two sisters Merna Tyler, Fort Atkinson, Wis., and Mildred (George) Hanson, Galesville, Wis. and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Walter, two brothers, Lester Jacob and Elmer Jacob and one sister Grace Jacob.
Funeral services were Monday, July 14, 2003 at 2:00 p.m., at St. John's United Church of Christ, Fountain City, Wis., with Rev. Rick King officiating. Interment was at Bohri Valley Cemetery, Cross Township, Buffalo County, Wis.
Casket bearers were Marvin Hunger, Don Hunger, Robbie Hunger, Wally Brand, Clifford Kjos and Steven Jacob.

Lilla, Chester J.
Chester J. Lilla, age 83, of Winona, died on Saturday, July 12, 2003, at Community Memorial Hospital, Winona.
Chester was born on January 22, 1920, in Winona, Minn., to Albert and Frances (Wieczorek) Lilla. He attended St. Stanslaus School and Winona Senior High School. On September 30, 1950, he married Elayne Woychek at St. Stanislaus Church, Winona.
Ches served in World War II in the U.S. Army Air Corps in the Pacific Theater as Medical Laboratory Tech 858 from April 1942 through January 1946 attaining the rank of Sergeant.
Ches was a life long resident of Winona and formerly employed at Watkins Products, Owl Motor Co., District 861 School and retired from Lake Center Industries. He was a member of the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart Church, Winona. He was a life time member at Winona Athletic Club and American Legion Post #9; member of VFW Neville-Lien Post #1287; and a previous member of the Eagles Club.
Survived by his wife Elayne; a daughter Deborah Lilla; a son Tom (Linda) Lilla all of Winona; a sister Bernice (Ray) Streuber, Winona; nephews David (Bonnie) Streuber and Jay Streuber; a sister-in-law Joyce Lilla, Winona; nieces Joanne (Martin) Kleinschmidt and Kathryn Bening; and other relatives.
Preceded in death by his parents and a brother Edward Lilla.
Mass of Christian Burial was Tuesday, July 15, 2003, at 11:00 a.m. at Cathedral of the Sacred Heart, Winona with Rev John M. Sauer and Rev. Eugene Klein, officiating.
Interment was at St. Mary's Cemetery, Winona. Veteran's burial rites were provided by the VFW Neville-Lien Post #1287. Casket bearers were VFW Honor Guard Members: Ted Gierok, Dave Graves, Merlin Lidtke, Elmer Mueller, Neil Hinkley, and Eldon Koplin.
Funeral arrangements were made by the Fawcett-Junker Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Winona.

Meyer, Isabelle C.
Isabelle Caroline Emma "Isie" Meyer, 88 of Lewiston died peacefully, Saturday morning July 12, 2003, at the Lewiston Villa.
Isie was born August 13, 1915 in Sebeka to Herman and Clara Neldner Eitel. She was baptized by her grandfather, Reverend Joseph Eitel on September 15, 1915 at Zion Lutheran Church I Sebeka. She graduated from Sebeka High School with the class of 1927. On February 17, 1937 Isie married Ben Meyer at Lewiston, where they lived and farmed until his death in 1981 She has resided in the Villa for the past four years.
Isie was a member of St. Paul's U.C.C./ E.L.C.A. in Lewiston.
Survivors include a daughter Donna Mae (Duane) Erickson of Lanesboro, two sons Ben (Pat) Meyer of Winona and Robert (Linda) Meyer of Lewiston, seven grandchildren, Deanna (Chuck) Casterton of Decorah, IA; Paul Rude of Minneapolis; Mat Rude of Decorah; Traci (Patrick) Johnson and Jeffrey Meyer of Winona; Charles (Tami) Storm of Kato, Wis., and Levi Storm of Lewiston, five great-grandchildren Kollin and Alex Johnson, Madison Storm, Kelley and Justin Casterton, a sister Renilda (Willis) Olson of Glyndon, Minn., and a brother Orville (Marian) Eitel of Sebeka. In addition to her husband Ben Meyer a son-in-law, Parney Rude preceded he in death.
Funeral Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Paul's UCC/ ELCA in Lewiston with the Rev. Roy Rogers officiating. Burial will follow in the Lewiston Public Cemetery. Friends may call at St. Paul's Church from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday and one hour before services Wednesday.
Hoff Funeral Home's ­ Lewiston Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.

Polachek, Wilbur "Wil"
Wilbur Henry "Wil" Polachek, age 79, of Winona, passed away, Saturday, July 12, 2003, at St. Mary's Hospital, Rochester. He was a wonderful husband, father and fun grandfather.
Wil was born on January 15, 1924, in Chicago, Ill. to Henry R. and Beatrice V. (Grant) Polachek. After graduating from high school he worked for the Illinois Bell Telephone Co. He also attended Illinois Institute of Technology at night before going into the U.S. Navy.
After serving during World War II as an electrician, he came to Winona in 1946, where his folks lived. Wil served his apprenticeship with Kline Electric, Winona and worked for Laverne Kline for 17 years. After that he went into his own business, Polachek Electric, for over thirty years. Fred Bauer, Don Bauer, Bob Follman and Milton Glende all took their apprenticeship schooling together.
Wil married Cora-May Swanson and they have five grown children.
He is a member of Central United Methodist Church, Winona, Mason Lodge #18 AF & AM, Ozman Shrine, Commandry, Winona Odd Fellows, Kiwanis, Elks, American Legion, Westfield and Y.M.C.A.
He is survived by his wife, Cora-May, Winona; five children: Robert (Criss) Polachek, Winona, David (Cheryl) Polachek, Winona, Ann Polachek, St. Paul, Minn., Mary B. (Lance) King, Moundsview, Minn., and Thomas Polachek, St. Paul, Minn.; seven grandchildren: Tess, Elizabeth, Olivia, Charlie, Indigo, Tommy Lee, and Abby; two brothers Ralph (Jean) Polachek and Herb (Ann) Polachek, and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and two sons: James Grant Polachek and Steven Grant Polachek. Funeral services will be Wednesday, July 16, 2003, at 2:00 p.m. at Central United Methodist Church, Winona, with Rev. Mary Hurmence officiating. Interment will be at Woodlawn Cemetery, Winona.
Visitaiton will be at Central United Methodist Church, on Wednesday starting at 1:00 p.m. until the hour of service.
Honarary casket bearers will be Jule Schneider, Clint Kuhlmann, Ted Biesanz Sr., Jim Polley, Bob Pavek, and Tom Laken
Funeral arrangements are being made by the Fawcett-Junker Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Winona.

Weaver, Catherine B.
Catherine B. Weaver, 95, of Arcadia, Wis., passed away on Saturday, July 12, 2003 at the Franciscan Skemp Healthcare Nursing Home in Arcadia.
She was born November 23, 1907 in Arcadia to Ignatz and Anna (Pierzina) Thoma. In April of 1931, Catherine married Roman Weaver at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Arcadia. He passed away on September 12, 1978.
Catherine was a member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church and the Rosary Society. She is survived by 2 sons, Jerry Weaver of Cape Cora, Fla. and Linus (Ruth) Weaver of Onalaska, Wis.; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; and 1 sister, Monica Jarozewski of Milwaukee, Wis.
Preceding Catherine in death were her husband; 2 sons, Bruno and Roman, Jr.; 1 granddaughter, Sandy Weaver; 4 sisters; and 6 brothers.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 15, 2003 at the Holy Family Parish (Upper Unit) in Arcadia, with Rev. Patrick Umberger officiating. Burial was in St. Stanislaus Cemetery, Arcadia.
Serving as casket bearers were Harold Thoma, Eddie Bisek, Randy Weaver, Tom Weaver, Jim Kriebich, and Kurt Weaver.
