Hanson, Irvin
Irvin Hanson was born in Winona on August 14, 1908. He was the son of Emma Houg and Herbert Hanson. He died peacefully in his home on Sunday, May 4, 2003.
Irvin spent most of his life in Winona. He worked at various jobs during the great depression and served his country in the United States Navy during World War II. He was honorably discharged on October 8, 1945.
After the war, Irvin married Margaret Rumstick. They had one daughter, Lillian. For much of his life, Irvin worked at the Bay State Milling Company. He retired in 1973. His hobbies included fishing and building clocks. He enjoyed books, western movies, dogs, baseball and, most importantly, spending time with his family.
Irvin was a faithful member of St. Matthew's Lutheran Church, Winona and he died secure in the knowledge that his body would be resurrected for eternity. Irvin was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers and by his dear wife, Margaret.
Irvin is survived and lovingly remembered by his daughter, Lillian Vieth; her husband, Don; two grandsons and their wives, Don Jr. and Annette, Victor and Lisa; and two great-grandchildren, Naomi and Christian.
Irvin's life on earth will be celebrated during funeral services to be conducted at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church, Winona on Wednesday, May 7, 2003, at 10:00 a.m., with Rev. James D. Nelson, officiating. Burial will be at Woodlawn Cemetery, Winona with veterans burial rites provided by the VFW Neville-Lien Post #1287, Winona, Minn.
A memorial is being planned.
Funeral arrangements are being made by the Fawcett-Junker Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Winona.

Lehnertz, Francis A.
Francis A. Lehnertz, 76, of Route 1, Rollingstone, Minn., died Sunday, May 4, 2003, at Gundersen ­ Lutheran Medical Center in LaCrosse, Wis. Francis was born on March 6, 1927, in Rollingstone to Edmund and Leona (Hayertz) Lehnertz. He was raised in Rollingstone where he graduated from Holy Trinity Catholic School. Francis married Patricia Meier on June 18, 1949. They had nine children together and were later divorced. Francis was a Rollingstone area farmer for all of his career. He was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Rollingstone, the St. Nicholas and St. Theresa Council of the Catholic Aide Society, and a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association. His life revolved around his family and his farm. Francis enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing, gardening, bowling, spending time at the Benedictine Day Center, and traveling to see his out of state children and grandchildren. Francis will be remembered for his smile and his great sense of humor. He is survived by four daughters: Linda (Lloyd) Kreidermacher of Altura, Minn., Barbara (Jon) Albert of Boulder, Colo., Cindy (Randy) Laumb of Graham, Wash., and Nancy Schley of Mitchell, S.D.; three sons: Bob Lehnertz of Tacoma, Wash., Pete (Leslie) Lehnertz of Rollingstone, Minn., and Danny (Wendy) Lehnertz of Winona, Minn.; 22 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren; two brothers: Eugene (Arlene) Lehnertz, Plainview, Minn., and Charles (Rita) Lehnertz of Winona, Minn.; three sisters: Annabelle Plein of Altura, Minn., Rosemary (Donald) Speltz of Rollingstone, and Catherine (Robert) Lewis of Pleasant Hill, Cal; and by nieces and nephews. Francis was preceded in death by his parents, two daughters, Debra and Mary Patricia, and two brothers, Edward and Gerald. There will be a Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 8, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Rollingstone with the Rev. Michael Cronin officiating. Following the Funeral Mass Francis' body will be cremated with burial of his cremated body in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday at Holy Trinity Catholic Church where there will be a prayer service at 4:00 p.m. Friends may also call one hour prior to the Funeral Mass on Thursday at the church. The family prefers memorials to be directed to the St. Benedictine Adult Day Care Center.

Doerr, Florence A.
Florence A. Doerr, 90, died Monday, May 5, 2003, at Lutheran Hospital, LaCrosse, Wis., after a short illness. She had been living in her farm home in Gilmore Valley, Winona.
Florence was born November 21, 1912, in Minnesota City, Minn., to Leon A. and Josephine (Verdick) Bronk. She married Albert G. Doerr on November 30, 1935, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Winona.
They lived in Goodview, Minn., from 1935 until moving to the Gilmore Valley farm in 1959. Florence was an accomplished cook and was well known throughout the extended family for her baked desserts.
Florence is survived by two sons, Robert (Mary) Doerr of Fountain City, Wis., and Donald (Judie) Doerr of Goodview; fourteen grandchildren, Derek, Karen, Sarah, Paul, Jacob, Don Jr., Karl, Leonard, Ehren, Stephen, James, Victor, John and Errol; thirteen great-grandchildren; one brother, Fr. Philip Bronk of La Mesa, Cal.; and sisters-in-law, Elsie Ahrens of Lewiston, Minn., Ruth Doerr of Galesville, Wis., Mina Richter of Greenfield, Mo., Elizabeth Kroells of Arlington, Minn., Viola Koopman of Kasota, Minn., Ann Reilly of Minnesota, and Georgann Bronk of LaCrosse, Wis.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, two grandchildren, Frank and Paula Jean, four brothers, Leon, George, Edward and Joseph, and a sister, Rose Zerga.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered Friday, May 9, at 2 p.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church, with Rev. Philip Bronk officiating. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery.
Friends may call Thursday from 6-9 p.m. at Watkowski-Pronschinske Funeral Home with recitation of the rosary at 8 p.m. Friends may call again Friday in the commons of St. Mary's Church from 1 p.m. until the time of Mass.
Pallbearers will be her grandchildren.

Mount, Sigrid Docken
Sigrid Docken Mount, 57, of 737 West Broadway, died Friday, May 2, 2003, at her home.
Sigrid was born October 23, 1945, in Decorah, Iowa, to Adrian and Orene Madson Docken. She graduated from Decorah Senior High School in 1964. She received her B.A. degree from St. Olaf College in 1968, her M.A. degree in Art History from Indiana University in 1979, and her Masters in Library Science from Indiana University in 1985. She married Joe Mount on August 11, 1973, in Decorah.
She was a member of the Unitarian Universalist Church and was employed at the library of St. Mary's University.
She is survived by her husband, Joe; a son, Jacob, at home; her parents, Adrian and Orene Docken, of Decorah; and three brothers, Paul (Toni) Docken of Tucson, Ariz., Phillip Docken, of Minneapolis, Minn., and Peter Docken, of Bloomington, Minn.
A private memorial service was held.

Lehnertz, Francis A.
Francis A. Lehnertz, 76, of Rt. 1, Rollingstone, Minn., died Sunday, May 4, 2003, at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center, LaCrosse, Wis.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 8, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Rollingstone, with Rev. Michael Cronin officiating. Following the Funeral Mass, Francis' body will be cremated with the burial of his cremated body in the church cemetery.

Glubka, Thaddeus G. "Ted"
Thaddeus G. "Ted" Glubka, 92, of 627 East Third St., died Monday, May 5, 2003, at St. Anne Extended Healthcare.
He was born February 22, 1911, in Winona, to Edward and Pauline (Glyczinski) Glubka. He married Helen M. Ramczyk on September 9, 1939, in St. Stanislaus Kostka Church. She died November 30, 1999.
Thaddeus was a member of St. Stanislaus Kostka Parish and Westfield Golf Club. He was employed at and retired from Universal Studios.
Ted was an accomplished stained glass artist and was especially gifted in the restoration of church windows created in the early 1900s. This type of art is similar to oil painting on glass rather than canvas. Ted was one of the very few throughout the country involved in this type of stained glass painting. He received the accolades of many religious clerics for his work. Ted was also a gifted woodcarver and many of his works adorn the homes of friends and relatives, as well as his own. Along with his many artistic endeavors, Ted was also an avid bird watcher.
Ted is lovingly survived by a daughter, Lynn (Robert) Czaplewski, of Winona; four grandchildren: Vicky Czaplewski, of Eagan, Minn., Matthew (Sally) and Mark (Laurie) Czaplewski, both of Rochester, Minn., and Scott Czaplewski, of Kahului, Hawaii; five great-grandchildren: Chloe, Robert, Taylor, Ryan and Reid; and a brother, Edward (Mary) Glubka, of Winona.
He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, two brothers, Daniel and Lambert, and a sister, Doris LeVasseur.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 7, at St. Stanislaus Kostka Church, with Rev. Daniel R. Dernek officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery. Friends may call at the church on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until the time of the Mass.
Pallbearers will be Ryan Bruns, Reid Bruns, Harry Lanenberg, Robert Nichols, Morris Nichols, and David Czaplewski.

Baures, Raymond G.
Raymond G. Baures of Fountain City, Wis., died Friday, May 2, 2003, at Community Memorial Hospital, Winona.
He was born July 4, 1922, in Colby, Wis., to Henry and Catherine Baures. On July 19, 1945, he married Belva Wolfe at St. Mary's Church in Fountain City.
Ray's love of being on the road carried him through his entire life. From the early days of hauling logs and cattle, to his milk hauling years, and then to his years of hauling cars and parts for Elmer's Salvage. He enjoyed years of motorcycling with his wife and friends that took him to many places in Wisconsin and Minnesota. The years they traveled in their motor home with Bud and Billie Wolfe and Warren and Jean Wolfe, took them to many places across the United States. He enjoyed watching his Baures Trucking softball team play in many tournaments while camping with the team and fans. He was one of the "Pioneer Racers" at the Waumandee Race Track, where he fulfilled his dream of being a race car driver. The time he spent with his family meant the most to him above all.
He will be forever remembered for the smile that was always on his face and a wave to whoever met him on the road. For those who had the joy of knowing him, his phrase "mercy sakes" will always be in our hearts.
Survivors include his wife, Belva; three sons, John (Jane) Baures, of Fountain City, and Rick (Jeri) Baures, and Paul (Becky) Baures, both of Buffalo City, Wis.; three daughters, Diane (Tom) Lettner, of Fountain City, Sue (Bill) Dworshak, of Green Bay, Wis., and Brenda (Arnie) Ginther, of Fountain City; fourteen grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; his very special little friend Casper; and two sisters, Rose Bruckner of Fountain City, and Dorothy Fernholz of Milwaukee, Wis.
A celebration of life was held Monday, May 5, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Fountain City, with Father John Parr officiating. Burial was in Fountain City Cemetery.

Gatzlaff, Kermit F.
Kermit F. Gatzlaff, 81, of Altura died Sunday, April 27, 2003, at his home. He was born November 24, 1921, in Altura, the son of Henry and Delia (Kobler) Gatzlaff. He graduated from Lewiston High School in 1939 and attended one year of college at Winona State. He served in the U.S. Army from 1944-46 as staff sergeant with the Headquarters Division, stationed in the Philippines and Korea. Kermit and Betty Belter were married October 18, 1947, at Altura.
Kermit worked at the Altura Co-op Creamery and Nelson Garage. In 1948 he and his brother, John, opened the Altura Hardware business where he was employed until retiring in 1990. He was known for his whistling as he walked to and from work each day.
He was a member of Jehovah Evangelical Lutheran Church, was a charter member of the Altura Lions Club, served on the Altura Development Corporation, bringing a restaurant and other businesses to town. He was an investor in the Altura Hilltop Development Corporation, which provided lots, streets and utilities necessary for new homes to be built. He also was president of Altura Housing Inc., an affordable rental housing project.
Kermit enjoyed watching high school, college and professional sports. He was a Viking and Twins fan, and also cheered for the Minnesota Gophers and the FSU Seminoles. He appreciated the opportunity to spend several winters in a condominium on the Gulf Coast at Panama City, Florida, meeting many wonderful new friends and even had time to play a round of golf.
He is survived by his wife, Betty; sons, Ron (Patrice) of Rochester, and Dean (Kathy) of Tallahassee, Florida; a daughter, Jodi Kay (Bruce) Heim of Lewiston; 11 grandchildren, Kate (Joel) Johnston, Kevin, Kristin, Rebecca and Rachyl Gatzlaff, Heather, Hollie, Christopher, Leah, Brooke, and Breana Heim; two great-grandsons, Noah and Conner; a brother, John (Betty); a sister, Leona (Orin) Hanson of LaCrosse; and a brother-in-law, Ervin (Jean) Belter of Kellogg. His parents and four infant sons have preceded him in death.
Funeral Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Jehovah Ev. Lutheran Church in Altura with the Revs. David A. Fischer and Michael A. Lindemann officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Hebron Moravian Cemetery, Altura. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at Hoff Funeral Home's - Lewiston Chapel. They may also call one hour before services Thursday at the Church.
The family would like to thank pastors and friends who prayed with Kermit, played music, sang favorite songs, sent cards, flowers, and kept him up to date with the town news. He did care about his community and the people who live in it. And thanks also to all of the gentle caregivers from the Winona Hospice and to the Mayo Clinic's Dr. Burch.

Leach, Florence
Florence Leach died peacefully at Community Memorial Hospital on April 25, 2003, surrounded by her family. She has made her home in Winona, Minn., for the past seven years.
Florence was born on October 5, 1911, in Creston, Montana, the daughter of Charles and Christine (Norlander) Buck, the seventh of eleven children.
On November 26, 1930, she married Robert Leach in Polson, Montana. They made their home on the family dairy farm for sixty plus years. Florence enjoyed being a homemaker. She and her husband often took pleasure drives around the Glacier Park area. In their leisure years they grew flowers and gardened and were vendors in the Kalispell Farmers' Market. She was an avid exhibitor at the Flathead County Fair and took special pride in her grain sheaves and home canning exhibits. Florence was dedicated to serving her church community and was a member of the Central Bible Church and its Missionary Circle.
Since coming to Winona, Minn., she became a member of the St. Charles, Minn., Panhandlers Homemaker Extension Group and was active in Circle Hannah and the Saturday Night Bible Class of St. Martin's Lutheran Church.
Florence is survived by a daughter, Arleta (Paul) Bolduan of Winona, Minnesota; a son, Fred (Patricia) Leach of Denair, California; six grandchildren, Douglas (Linda) Bolduan of Minneiska, Minnesota, Cheryl (James) Gensmer of Plainview, Minnesota, Kathleen (Terry) Bolduan-Tincher of Elmwood Park, Illinois, Kimberly (Moises) Bolduan-Rojas of Highland Park, Illinois, Scott (Karen) Leach of Denair, California, and Julie (John) Brandt of Lincoln, California; eighteen great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert, in September of 1991, her parents, seven brothers, three sisters, one grandson, Steven Bolduan, and two great-grandchildren, Craig and Amy Bolduan.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, April 30, 2003, at the Fawcett-Junker Funeral Home, Winona, Minnesota, at 2:30 p.m. officiated by Pastor David Henslin of St. Martin's Lutheran Church, Winona, Minnesota. Burial will be in Glacier Memorial Gardens, Kalispell, Montana.
Visitation will be Wednesday, April 30, at the funeral home, from 1:30 p.m. until the hour of service.

PMorris, Dorothy Mapes
Dorothy Pearl Mapes Morris, 86, of St. Charles, died Monday morning, April 28, 2003, at Chosen Valley Care Center in Chatfield.
She was born November 25, 1916, in Viroqua, Wis., to William and Bessie (Kiser) Young and grew up in the Dallas, Wis., area. Dorothy and Harry George Mapes were married on October 22, 1938. They lived in Minocqua, Wis., until moving to Richland, Wash., in 1943. In 1950 they returned to Minocqua. Harry died in September of 1978. Dorothy married Darrold Morris in September of 1982. They lived in Venice, Florida, until moving to St. Charles in 1994, to be near her daughter. Darrold died in 1996. She has lived in the Chosen Valley Care Center the past three years.
Dorothy is survived by six children, Beth (Bill) Paulson of St. Charles, Sandra (Gary) Vogt of Lakeville, Philip (Colleen) Mapes of Chewelah, Wash., Tamara (Roger) Grahl of Peace Tree City, Ga., Ferris (Darla) Mapes of Dallas, Texas, and Mark (Ann) Mapes of Minocqua; 14 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; four sisters, Julia (Everett) Hansen of Chetek, Wis., Charlotte (Paul) Tiegs of Dallas, Wis., Lucille Brendel of Barron, Wis., and Eileen (Bob) Scates of Barron, Wis.; three sisters-in-law, Alma Young of Pittsville, Wis., Geneva Young of Prairie Farm, Wis., and Violet Young of Chetek, Wis. Two sisters and three brothers preceded her in death.
Funeral Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Hoff Funeral Home's - St. Charles Chapel with Craig Winquist officiating. Burial will follow at 2:45 p.m. in Glenwood Cemetery at Prairie Farm, Wisconsin. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Friday and one hour before services Saturday at the funeral home.

Perrella, Nicholas
Nicholas "Nick" Perrella, age 82, of Winona, died on Friday, April 25, 2003, at his home.
Nick was born on October 24, 1920, in Keewatin, Minn., to Nicholas and Margaret (Tulini) Perrella. He married Elizabeth "Betty" Brown in Keewatin, Minn. They moved from Northern Minnesota and the iron ore mines to Winona in 1958. He established Sammy's Pizza in 1958 and owned and operated the business until 1982 when he retired.
Nick served in the U.S. Army with Company "A" 390th Military Police Batalion in the European-African-Middle East Theatre during World War II. He received the Bronze Star, Purple Heart and Medal of Valor.
He is a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and the American Legion.
He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth; a son, Nicholas Perrella Jr., Winona; a daughter, Jean (Tim) Lynch, Winona; three grandchildren, Nicole Lynch, Sam Perrella and Zach Perrella; a sister, Joanne Krewinski, Duluth, Minn.; and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his father, mother, four sisters and three brothers.
Mass of Christian Burial was Tuesday, April 29, 2003, at 2:00 p.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church, with Rev. Joseph Keefe, officiating. Interment was at St. Mary's Cemetery, Winona. Military honors were conducted at the cemetery by the American Legion Leon J. Wetzel Post #9.
Casket bearers were Tim Lynch, John Adank, Scott Erwin, Kim O'Laughlin, Travis Peterson and Rick Phillips.
Funeral arrangements were made by the Fawcett-Junker Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Winona.
