Nealon, Benedicta
Cecilia "Betty"
Benedicta "Betty" Nealon, Red Wing, Minn., died Thursday, December 5, 2002, at Fairview Medical Center in Red Wing.
She was born April 5, 1911, to John and Mary (Wnuk) Lince, Fountain City, Wis. She married Leonard Nealon in Winona on October 10, 1935. In 1939 they moved to Red Wing. He died March 14, 1992.
She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, where she was involved in the Ladies Aid, and enjoyed watercolor painting and crafts.
Survivors include one daughter, Carol (Walter) Hodgins of Red Wing; one grandson, Walter Hodgins of St. Paul; and one sister, Isabelle (Albert) King of Winona.
She was preceded in death by her husband, five brothers, and five sisters.
Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, December 11, at St. Joseph's Church in Red Wing, with Rev. Michael O'Connor officiating. Burial will be at a later date in St. Mary's Cemetery, Winona.

Little, Betty June
Betty June Little, 76, of Des Moines, Iowa, died Sunday, December 8, 2002, at Kavanagh House in Des Moines.
A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, December 11, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church. Burial will be at Highland Memory Gardens in Des Moines.

Hoeppner, Beverly
Beverly Hoeppner, 74, of Winona, passed away at her home on Monday, December 9, 2002, after a nine month battle with cancer.
She was born on October 27, 1928, to Michael and Merle Sonsalla. She married her high school sweetheart, George Hoeppner, and together they spent over fifty years as husband and wife.
Bev worked for the Winona School District as a secretary to the principal at Winona Junior High School for 22 years. She was a member of the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart, active in church guilds as her children were growing up, was secretary for the Watkins Collectors Club, a member of Winona Area Educational Office Personnel, and an officer for the WSHS Booster Club while her children were in school.
Bev is survived by her husband, George; two sons, George (Donna) Hoeppner of Stillwater, Minn., and Gary (Maria) Hoeppner of Winona; three daughters, Suellen (Dennis) Roby of Watertown, SD., Carol (Bob) Browne of Winona, and Janet Scott of Winona; thirteen grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a sister, Renee Larson of Rochester, Minn.; and brothers, Richard Sonsalla of Rochester and William Sonsalla of Wabasha, Minn.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a grandchild, and a son-in-law.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered Thursday, December 12, at 10:30 a.m. at the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart Church, with preliminary services at 10 a.m. at Watkowski-Pronschinske Funeral Home. Msgr. Roy E. Literski will officiate. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery.
Friends may call Wednesday from 5:00-8:30 p.m. at the funeral home, with a Christian Wake Service at 8 p.m.
Pallbearers will be grandsons Andy Hoeppner, Jason and Adam Roby, Matt Browne, Jeremy Scott, and a nephew, Matt Larson.

Heitman, Beverly D.
Beverly Dorothy Heitman, 75, of Fountain City, Wis., died Friday, December 6, 2002, in the emergency room of Community Memorial Hospital, Winona. She was born in Cochrane, Wis., on October 25, 1927, to George T. and Dorothy A. (Staack) Bollinger.
Beverly earned a degree as a registered nurse at Abbott-Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis. She was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and sister. On June 16, 1949, she married Carl H. Heitman at Cochrane, Wis.
She is a member of St. John's United Church of Christ, Fountain City, its Women's Guild and choir. She is also a member of the Fountain City Community Singers.
She is survived by her husband, Carl; daughters, Barbara Bielefeldt (Ken Kolbi), Hudson, Wis., Rita Heitman, Colorado Springs, Colorado, Jill (David) Oba, Pueblo West, Colorado; Five grandchildren, Jennifer and Heath Bielefeldt; Elizabeth, Michael and Daniel Oba; great grandchildren, Bailey Ann and Braxton Haines. A brother, Donald (Maxie) Bollinger, Lakeville, Minn., and a sister, Kitty (Pearley) Anderson, Hager City, Wis.
Beverly was preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral services for Beverly were on Tuesday, Dec. 10, at 11:00 A.M. at St. John's United Church of Christ, Fountain City, Rev. Fritz West officiating. Casket bearers were Charles Kirchner, Joseph Greshik, Sr. and Jr., Larry Korb, Milton Stuber and Charles Keilholtz.
Interment was in Fountain City Public Cemetery, Fountain City, Wis.
Memorial gifts may be directed to the Fountain City Community Singers or to St. John's United Church of Christ.

Kieffer, Paul J.
Paul J. Kieffer, 100, died Friday, December 126, 2002, at Bethany Samaritan Heights in Rochester, Minn. Paul was born February 5, 1902, in Altura, Minn., to Charles and Elizabeth (Banagasser) Kieffer. On June 3, 1930, he married Luella Daniel in Altura, Minn. She later died May 17, 1977. Paul had been a life long resident of Altura, living in the same house in town for 71 years.
Paul began his working career as a truck driver and then had the Oliver Implement Dealership in Altura. He was also a Real Estate Broker and Mayor of Altura for several years. Paul was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Altura, the St. Aloysius Society and the Knights of Columbus. Paul was also an avid collector of antiques. He had been a resident of Bethany Samaritan Heights for the past three years.
Survivors include his three children, Mary Elizabeth "Liz" Theis of Atlanta, Georgia, Charles (Pat) Kieffer of Rochester, Minn. and Dorothy (Ron) Boyum of Burnsville, Minn.; 11 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Luella, and six brothers, Andrew, Francis, Leon, Raymond, Phillip and Leo.
A Funeral Mass was offered on Tuesday, December 10, 2002, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Altura with the Reverend Peter Schuster officiating. Burial was in St. Mary's Cemetery in Winona, Minn. Hoff Funeral Homes - St. Charles Chapel.
Little, Betty J.

Betty June Little, 76, of Des Moines, Iowa, died Sunday, Dec. 8, 2002, at Kavanagh House in Des Moines.
Betty was born in Chicago, and lived in Winona for 20 years before moving to Des Moines, where she has lived for the past 41 years. She worked as a waitress at Hilltop Restaurant in Des Moines for 25 years before retiring in 1991.
She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Des Moines.
Betty always brought a smile into people's lives. She never met a stranger and made everyone feel welcome. She felt blessed with her many children and grandchildren.
She is survived by five sons: Bruce Little of Winona, Tim Little of Des Moines, Iowa, Dave Little of Cedar Falls, Iowa, Barry Little of Overland Park, Kan., and Bob Little of Des Moines; four daughters, Linda Villines of Fort Myers Beach, Fla., Cindy Glassman of Aurora, Colo., Beth O'Daniel of Goldsboro, N.C., and Valerie Reagan of Virginia Beach, Va.; three brothers, Kenneth Troke, Carl Troke and Dennis Troke, all of Winona; two sisters, Carol Decker of La Crosse, Wis., and Diane Hatleli of Lake City, Minn.; 22 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur M. Little, brothers Clarence (Toar) Troke and Donald (Dosh) Troke.
A memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2002, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church. Burial will be at Highland Memory Gardens in Des Moines.
Friends may call from 5 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Grandview Park Funeral Home, Des Moines, with a vigil service at 7 p.m.
Memorials may be directed to the Betty June Little Memorial Fund.

Baker, Matilda C.
Matilda C. Baker, 92, of Arcadia, Wis., passed away on Thursday, December 12, 2002, at the Franciscan Skemp Healthcare Nursing Home in Arcadia.
She was born on July 22, 1910, in the Township of Burnside, Wis., to John and Annie (Giemza) Sylla. On May 13, 1931, Matilda married Adolph Baker, Sr. at SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Independence, Wis. He passed away in 1973.
Matilda was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Arcadia and the St. Ann's Society. She had worked as an egg handler for the A-G Hatchery.
Matilda is survived by 2 sons: Raymond (Evelyn) Baker of Milwaukee, Wis., and Adolph (Maryann) Baker, Jr. of Arcadia; 9 grandchildren: Mary Schaub, Diane Jereczek, Susan Weltzien, Allan Baker, Steven and Richard Baker, Jeffrey Baker, Brian Baker, and Corine Baker; 16 great-grandchildren.
Preceding Matilda in death were her parents; 2 sons: Bernard and Rudolph; 1 grandchild: Karen; 2 brothers; and 2 sisters.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 12:00 noon on Tuesday, December 17, 2002, at the Holy Family Parish/Lower Unit (formerly OLPH) in Arcadia, with Rev. Patrick Umberger officiating. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery, Arcadia.
Serving as casket bearers were Richard Baker, Allan Baker, Steven Baker, Steven Schaub, Paul Jereczek, and Kenneth Venus.
Matilda's family respectfully asks that memorials be directed to "Family Wishes."

Henthorne, Virginia
Virginia Elizabeth (Mullen) Henthorne, age 83, of Winona, passed away Friday, December 13, 2002, at St. Elizabeth Health Care Center, Wabasha, Minn.
Virginia was born on March 14, 1919, to Patrick and Rose (Adank) Mullen in Fountain City, Wis. On January 2, 1938, she married Gale "Tubby" Henthorne. In 1953, they purchased the Oasis Bar & Restaurant in Winona. After Gale's passing in 1958, Virginia and her son George operated "The Big O" until 1983.
Virginia is survived by one son, George (Jane), three daughters, Sarah (Dan) Dzwonkowski and Sandra Creeley all of Winona and Judy (Wayne) Smith of Coon Rapids, Minn; 13 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter; three sisters, Blanche Kustelski and Betty (Jack) Nelson all of Winona and Shirley (Gene) Sobeck of Minnesota City, Minn; one brother-in-law Charles (Dorey) Henthorne, Mound, Minn; nieces and nephews.
Deceased family members are her husband Gale, her parents and five brothers.
Virginia was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who was always there to help in times of need and was extremely proud of her Irish Heritage.
Funeral services were Tuesday, December 17, 2002, at 2:00 p.m. at Fawcett-Junker Funeral Home, Winona, with Rev. Mark Dumke, pastor of Faith Lutheran Church, Winona, officiating. Interment was at Woodlawn Cemetery, Winona.
Casket bearers were grandsons: Jay Henthorne, Greg and Michael Dzwonkowski, Jeffrey and Brent Smith, Christopher and Kevin Creeley.
Honorary casket bearers were granddaughters: Heidi Richardson, Paige Anderson, Donna and Leslie Dzwonkowski, Holly Hythecker and Beth Creeley.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be directed to: St. Elizabeth Health Care Center, Wabasha, Adith Miller Manor, Winona ORC or the donor's choice.
Funeral arrangements were made by the Fawcett-Junker Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Winona.

Martin Rudolph "Pete" Peterson, age 97, of Winona, died on Sunday, December 15, 2002 at his home.
Martin was born on November 8, 1905, in Minneota, Minn., to Martin "Matt" and Clara (Johnson) Peterson. He was baptized and confirmed at Hope Lutheran Church, Minneota. Martin attended the Minneota Public School and graduated from Minneota High School in 1924. He attended Dunwoody Institute in Minneapolis and became a baker.
On June 11, 1929, he married Hilda Sulland at East St. Olaf Lutheran Church, Rock Dell Township, Olmsted County, Minn. They resided in Canby, Minneota, Plainview, Rochester and Winona all in Minnesota. Mrs. Peterson died March 31, 1993.
When Martin was a young man he became interested in radio and became an Amateur Radio Operator. His last call letters were W0LN. During World War II, Martin was a civilian radio instructor for the U.S. Air Force. His knowledge of radio led to a position at the Boland Manufacturing Company of Winona, maintaining their electronic equipment.
Martin was an active member of Central Lutheran Church, Radio Club, and Sons of Norway. He enjoyed HAM Radio, raising flowers and photography.
He will be remembered for his sense of humor, pecan pies and tarts, love of Sugar Loaf, of a celebration, be it a birthday or holiday and love of children. The kids on the playgroud at Jefferson School entertained him for years. He was especially proud of being the last original home-owner of the 21 homes built in the Upland Addition after WW II.
Most of all, he will be remembered for remaining young at heart and strong in spirit. He is our ageless hero.
He is in heaven with all those dear ones who have made his world. We will miss you, but as you told us when you couldn't join us for a family celebration, you would be with us in spirit and that is of comfort to us now.
His is survived by sister-in-law: Jean Peterson, Wadena, Minn., nieces and nephews: Vance Peterson, Sharon Gilsrud, Karen Nesvold, Ron Peterson, Bob Peterson, Laura Sarver, Mark Peterson, Gary Daering and Douglas Sulland; his "adoptive" families Robert and Joan Hartert of Minnesota City, Robert and Judean Everson of Bangor, Wis., and his "Angels" Cheryl & Judean.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Hilda, parents, two sisters in infancy; three brothers, Elmer, Clifford and Walter and a niece, Carol Jean.
Funeral services will be Thursday, December 19, 2002, at 11:00 AM at Central Lutheran Church, Winona, with Rev. Michelle Rem officiating. Interment will be at Woodlawn Cemetery, Winona.
Visitation will be at the church on Thursday, one hour prior to the service.
Memorials may be given to Central Lutheran Church, Winona.
Funeral arrangements are being made by the Fawcett-Junker Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Winona.
