Loerch, Clarence Arthur

Clarence Arthur Loerch, 91, of 525 Glenview Drive, died Saturday, November 9, 2002 at his home.

He was born July 2, 1911 in Winona County. He married Mildred R. Kalouner Loerch. She is deceased. They had three children.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, November 25, at Grace Presbyterian Church, Winona. Burial will be in Frank Hill Cemetery, Wilson, Minn.

Arrangements by Fawcett-Junker Funeral Home and Cremation Services.

Baker, Patricia M.

Patricia M. Baker, 68, of rural Strum, Wis., died Monday, November 11, 2002 at Sacred Heart Hospital, Eau Claire, Wis.

Funeral services were Friday, November 15 at Edison Funeral Home in Independence, Wis., with burial in Chimney Rock Cemetery, rural Strum.

Smith, Harry Eugene

Harry Eugene Smith, 60, of 1026 Meadow View Drive, Rushford, Minn., died Monday, April 16, 2001 at St. Mary's Hospital, Rochester, Minn.

He was born September 1, 1940 in Jacksonville, Fla. He has two children.

A memorial service will be held Thursday, April 19, at 7 p.m. at Root River Community Church in Rushford. Burial will be in Fort Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis, Minn. on Friday, April 20.

Visitation will be Wednesday, April 18 from 6-9 p.m. at Fawcett-Junker Funeral Home, Winona.

Webber, Earl William Sr.

Earl William Webber Sr., 87, of 520 West Fifth St., Winona, died Friday, April 13, 2001 at Methodist Hospital, Rochester, Minn.

Earl was born August 20, 1913 in Minnesota City, Minn., to William and Molly Berg Webber. He married Gertrude Elizabeth Huebner in Homer, Minn. She died April 18, 1993.

Earl was a 1932 graduate of Winona Senior High School. He then attended Winona Teachers College for two years. Earl worked as a laborer for many years with several area construction companies, retiring in 1986.

Earl was a member of St. Martin's Evangelical Lutheran Church, the Construction Laborers Local No. 405 of Rochester, and the Winona Bird Club. In his younger years he enjoyed hunting, fishing and trapping.

Earl is survived by his son, Earl W. Webber Jr. of Winona; granddaughters, Bonny Webber of Minneapolis and Crystal (Mark) Seaberg, of Omaha, Neb.; and a great-grandchild, Morgan Seaberg.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and a sister, Alvina.

Funeral services will be at noon Wednesday, April 18, at Fawcett-Junker Funeral Home, with Rev. Timothy Dost of St. Martin's Evangelical Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery.

Friends may call from 10 a.m. to time of services Wednesday at the funeral home.

Casketbearers will be Michael, Gary and Donald Huebner, Mark Seaberg, Douglas Lee and Clarence Pomeroy.

Memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society.

Grutzmacher, Ida Helen

Ida Helen Grutzmacher, 93, Lewiston, Minn., died Friday, April 13, 2001 at the Lewiston Villa.

Ida was born June 16, 1907 in Necedah, Wis., to James Albert and Anna (Schmid) Gillingham. She and Walter Grutzmacher were married November 10, 1928 in Necedah.

In 1941 the couple moved to Lewiston where Walter became section foreman for Chicago Northwestern Railroad. Ida attended Normal Training and became a teacher for a short time. She was also a homemaker and later returned to teaching at St. John's School for many years. Walter died June 30, 1989. Ida recently entered Lewiston Villa.

She belonged to St. John's Ev. Church and Ladies Aid, Lewiston Garden Club, Winona County Homemakers, and volunteered at the Lewiston Villa. She enjoyed card playing, gardening, reading and entertaining.

Survivors include two sons, (Bill) Vonnie Grutzmacher of Altoona, Wis. and Chris Grutzmacher of Chatfield; a daughter, Kathleen Grutzmacher of Rochester; four grandchildren, Kevin, Kurt (Nancy), and Jon (Cindy) Grutzmacher, and Kelly (Larry) Rowekamp; five great-grandchildren, Eric and Hunter Jonsgaard, Ryan, Kyle and Chad Grutzmacher; and two brothers, Larry Gillingham of Thompson Falls, Mont. and William Gillingham of Adams, Wis.

Funeral services were Tuesday, April 17 at St. John's Ev. Lutheran Church with Revs. David Fischer and Michael Lindemann officiating. Burial was in St. John's Cemetery.

Finkelnburg, Dr. William O.

Dr. William O. Finkelnburg, M.D., 84, of Oviedo, Fla., and formerly of Winona, died Monday, May 14, 2001 at his home, surrounded by his loving family and friends.

Bill was born in Winona on November 12, 1916, the son of Edgar H. and Emelia F. Granninger Finkelnburg.

He is a graduate of the University of Minnesota Medical School in 1941. Following his internship and residency he began his practice in Winona. Bill's professional career includes being chief of surgery for fourteen years and past president of the medical staff at Community Memorial Hospital. He is a past chair of the hospital's medical staff Bylaws, Rules and Regulations Committee.

Bill is a past member of the Board of Directors of the Minnesota Division of the American Cancer Society; Past President of the Southern Minnesota Medical Association; member of the Minnesota Surgical Society; past chairman of the Winona Chapter of the American Red Cross; member of the Minnesota and American Medical Association; past advisory member of the Professional Services Council of the Minnesota/Mayo Clinic; member and past president of the Winona County Medical Society; past lecturer for the American Cancer Society; member, Founders Committee, Minnesota Chapter of the American College of Surgeons.

His community involvements include serving as chair of the Housing and Redevelopment Authority, Housing and Urban Renewal, Winona; past member of the Board of Directors of the Winona Area Chamber of Commerce; member of the American Legion Post #9, Winona; past president of the Kiwanis Club of Winona and member of Masonic Lodge #18, A.F. & A.M., Winona; Scottish Rite Bodies of Rochester, Minn.

He married Yvonne Mae Erickson on August 6, 1951. She died March 29, 1971. He then married Carol Beth Literski Thaldorf on June 20, 1981 in Homer, Minn.

Bill is survived by his wife, Carol of Oviedo, Fla.; children, Karl (Margie) Finkelnburg of Alexandria, VA.; Karen (Doug) Bostick of Charleston, SC.; and JoAnne (John) Machala of Hilton Head, SC. He is also survived by Carol's children, Kelly Trevis of Tucson, Ariz., David Thaldorf, Dawn Burzee and Karen Thaldorf, all of Orlando, Fla.; eight grandchildren; and two sisters, Margaret Boyd of Yucca Valley, Cal., and Elsie Rhea of Citrus Springs, Fla.

He was preceded in death by his parents and first wife, Yvonne.

Funeral services for Dr. Finkelnburg will be held on Monday, May 21 at 11:00 a.m. at First Congregational Church in Winona, with Rev. Rick King officiating. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Winona, where members of American Legion Post #9 will conduct military burial rites.

Friends may call on Sunday, May 20, from 7-9 p.m. at Fawcett-Junker Funeral Home, and on Monday from 10-11 a.m. at the church.

Casketbearers are Dr. John Peterson, Dr. H.J. Andersen, Roger Metz, James Hill, Kenneth Seebold and Jack Taylor.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial gifts to the Remembrance Fund of Community Memorial Hospital.

Thesing, Theodore J. "Ted"

Theodore J. "Ted" Thesing, 90, of Lewiston, Minn., died Tuesday, May 15, 2001 at the Lewiston Villa.

He was born July 11, 1910 in Nodine, Minn., to Anton and Elizabeth (Humfeld) Thesing. He moved to Lewiston in 1926, where he farmed his entire life. Ted married Evelyn Ries on June 7, 1932 at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Lewiston. Evelyn passed away on April 24, 1991.

Ted was a devoted family man and truly enjoyed each and every one of his children and grandchildren. Their lives were his life. He was especially proud of the missionary work that his sons, Frs. Ken and Gilbert, have done during their years in Africa.

In his younger days, Ted served as a Director on the Midland Co-op Board for many years. He also served as a Director on the Wisconsin Dairy Board of Directors. He was a member of the Holy Name Society at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church.

He is survived by his ten sons and their families: Donald (Marlys) of Lewiston, Roger (Betty) of Utica, Minn., Father Gilbert of Gusau, Nigeria, Africa, Richard (Linda) of Rochester, Minn., Father Kenneth of Mozambique, Africa, Daniel (Betsy) of Taunton, England, Michael (Georgia) of Osakis, Minn., and Steven, Philip (Joan), and John (Linda) all of Lewiston; twenty-two grandchildren: Don Jr., Doug, Roger Jr. and Brian Thesing, Brenda Schumacher, Staci Harmon, Kristin Mehring, Jason, Daniel Jr., Matt, Chris, Chad, Eric, Adam, Mark, Mandy, Peggy, Becky, Zach, Ana, and Stephanie Thesing, and Niki Kieffer; and twelve great-grandchildren. His good friend, Gene Erickson of Lewiston, also survives.

He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, one brother and five sisters.

A Funeral Mass was held Friday, May 18 at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Lewiston with Revs. Peter Schuster, Gilbert and Kenneth Thesing officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Pallbearers were Don Jr., Roger Jr., Eric and Mandy Thesing and Niki Kieffer.

Hoff Funeral Home's - Lewiston Chapel assisted the family with the arrangements.

Kirkland, Marion (Springer)

Marion (Springer) Kirkland, Fort Worth, Tex., died May 16, 2001.

She was born December 13, 1922 in Winona, to Rose and Roman Springer.

Marion served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

She is survived by two children, Danny and Carol; and brothers and sisters, James (Virginia), Robert (Hazel), Donald (Nancy), Henry (Mary Beth), Tom (Nancy), Frank (Lucy), John (Joyce), Barbara Perkins, Rosalie (Dick) Tieman, and Joan (Ron) Benter.

She was preceded in death by her husband and two children, Larry and Sharon.

Burial was in Texas.
