Blank, Edna R.

Edna R. Blank, 85, a resident of the Watkins Home and formerly of 906 East Sanborn St., died Wednesday, May 16, 2001, at Lake Winona Manor.

Edna was born August 29, 1915, in Buffalo County, Wis., to Fred and Caroline (Winkle) Beck. She married Richard J. "Olie" Blank on May 3, 1940 in St. Stanislaus Kostka Church. He died November 11, 1975.

Edna was a member of St. Stanislaus Kostka Parish and its Council of Catholic Women, St. Ann and St. Jude Guilds. She was a member and past president of the Winona Athletic Club Auxiliary and the Hospital Auxiliary. She was also a volunteer in the C&R Unit of Community Memorial Hospital and St. Vincent de Paul Storehouse.

Edna was a avid gardener who loved roses. She enjoyed life, especially her children and grandchildren. She was an active volunteer with a great love and compassion for helping others.

Edna is survived by two sons, Robert (Kathi) and James (Sandra), both of Winona; two daughters, Arlene Blank of Champaign, Ill., and Mary (Michael) Rymarkiewicz of Winona; four grandchildren, Susan Rymarkiewicz and Sally, Daniel and Bridget Blank; two step-grandsons, Eric and Nathan Hoover; two sisters, Mildred Voelker of Winona, and Esther (Roy) Viterna of Mears, Mich.; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, three sisters, and two brothers.

A Mass of Christian Burial was offered Saturday, May 19, at St. Stanislaus Kostka Church with Rev. Daniel R. Dernek officiating. Burial was in St. Mary's cemetery.

Memorials may be directed to Lake Winona Manor.

Reynolds, Joyce E. (nee Hamilton)

Joyce E. Reynolds (nee Hamilton), 70, of Trempealeau, Wis., died Wednesday, May 16, 2001 at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center, LaCrosse, Wis.

She was born in Milwaukee, Wis., on April 9, 1931 to William and Florence (Nell) Hamilton. She married John Reynolds on June 16, 1950 in Love, Ill., and celebrated their 50th anniversary this past July with family.

She lived in New Berlin, Wis. up until 1988 when she retired to Trempealeau.

She belonged to the Ladies of Alameen Shrine Temple in Texas and the United Methodist Church in Trempealeau. She was a member of the Ettrick and Trempealeau Mountain Golf Clubs. She served as a volunteer at church and the Trempealeau Sportsman Club. She enjoyed golfing, wintering in Texas, playing cards with friends and knitting for charity.

She is survived by her beloved husband, John of Trempealeau; seven children, Debra Reynolds Staggs of Vancouver, Wash., John Reynolds of New Berlin, Wis., Patricia Reynolds Ziegler of Waukesha, Wis., Karrie Reynolds Wright (Trevor) of New York, NY., Sue Reynolds Harding (Dave) of Wisconsin Rapids, Wis., Timothy Reynolds (Barb) of Muskego, Wis., and James Reynolds (Liz) of Anchorage, Alaska; fourteen grandchildren, Jaimee, Cynthia, John, Jennifer, Eric, Joseph, William, Samantha, Ryan, Rebecca, Amanda, Jacob, Stephanie, and Kyle; one great-granddaughter, Danielle; her aunts, Alice (Nell) Leifer and Pearl (Nell) Schwenke; as well as other nieces, nephews and relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Florence Hamilton, and her sister, Patricia (Hamilton) Kardian.

A memorial service will be held Wednesday, May 23, at 2 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Trempealeau, with Pastor Betsy Miller-Ruben officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Gundersen Lutheran Hospice Program, 811 Monitor Street, Suite 101, LaCrosse, WI 54603.

Barankiewicz, Eleanor A.

Eleanor A. Barankiewicz, 82, died Thursday, May 17, 2001 at Lake Winona Manor.

She was born February 9, 1919 in Winona to Michael and Rosalia (Tarczewski) Barankiewicz.

She was a member of St. Casimir's Catholic Parish.

Survivors include two sisters, Mary Barankiewicz of Winona and Clara Wicka of Columbus, Ohio; a niece, Rosemarie Stachowitz of Winona; a nephew, Kenneth Barankiewicz of Trempealeau, Wis.; and several other nieces and nephews.

She was preceded by her parents, eight brothers and a sister.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered Sunday, May 20, at 1 p.m. at St. Casimir's Catholic Church with Rev. James W. Hennessy officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's cemetery.

Friends may call Sunday from 12:30 p.m. until time of Mass at the church.

Dunlavey, Dare Lamberton

A memorial and burial service for Dare Lamberton Dunlavey, 49, was conducted at the Lamberton plot at Woodlawn cemetery, Winona, on Saturday, May 19.

She died November 11, 2000 in Sarasota, Fla.

Wood, Ross Earl

Ross Earl Wood, 71, of 1391 Glenview Road, Winona, died Wednesday, May 16, 2001 at his home.

He was born February 14, 1930 in Dubuque, Iowa. He married Constance J. Anders Wood. They had four children.

Memorial services will be Saturday, May 26 at 10 a.m. at Central United Methodist Church, Winona. Friends are invited to greet and share with the family following the memorial service at the church.

Crawford, Pansy Elisa

Pansy Elisa Gilbert Crawford, 86, of 104 Main St., Winona, died Friday, June 1, 2001 at her home.

Pansy was born January 1, 1915 in Osseo, Wis., to Robert James Gilbert and Rubena Henry. She lived in Osseo and graduated from Osseo High School in 1933 and from Eau Claire State Teachers College in 1934. She married George B. Crawford on June 16, 1934 in Winona.

They lived on a farm until moving to Winona in 1961.

She worked for Schuler Chocolates for fifteen years. After retiring she worked for Green Thumb.

Pansy is a member of Faith Assembly of God Church, Winona County Historical Society, Polish Museum, and the Winona Public Library.

She is survived by her husband of 67 years, George; four sons, James R. (Arlene) of Dickyville, Wis., George A. of Madison, Wis., Gerald D. of Winona, and Dennis R. (Virginia) of DeKalb, Ill.; a daughter, Beverly Jean Haney of Winona; twenty grandchildren; twenty-seven great-grandchildren; two brothers, Robert Gilbert of Pierre, SD, and Walter (Phyllis) Gilbert of Holmen, Wis.; and two sisters, Joyce Kolden and Marjorie Thompson, both of Osseo, Wis.

Pansy was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Goldie, a brother, Richard, an infant sister, Alice, and an infant brother, Ralph.

Funeral services were Tuesday, June 5, at Faith Assembly of God Church with Rev. Rick Drury officiating. Burial was in Woodlawn cemetery.

Casketbearers were grandsons, John and Thomas Haney, Jr., Ronald, Matthew, Darin and Steven Crawford.

Ryan, Marie

Marie Ryan, 84, of Harmony, Minn., died at Regional Health Services of Howard County on June 3, 2001.

She was born May 7, 1917 in Winneshiek County, Iowa, the daughter of Ole O. Pederson and Sophia Kyseth Pederson. She was united in marriage to Donald W. Ryan on March 4, 1946 at Canton, Minn., and they farmed near Harmony until their retirement.

She is survived by her sons, John D. (Jacque) of Harmony and their children: Matthew (Jackie) Ryan, Maria (Allan) Johnson and Mark Ryan, David (Barb) of Stewartville, Minn. and their children, Joe and Carrie; two daughters, Joan (John) Broadwater of Winona and their children, Heather (Brian) McCornack, Angela Broadwater and Michael Broadwater and Carol (John) Lewis of Cresco and their children, Don, Rachel (Tom) Himes, Ryan and Susan Lewis; twelve grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Donald in 1978, and her brothers and sisters, Carl, Selmer, Martin, Oliver, Bennie, Albert and Merlin Pederson, Ruth Scrabeck, Louise Austenson, Wilma Anderson and Thelma Jacobson.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, June 6 at 10:30 a.m. at Nativity Catholic Church in Harmony with Rev. Steve Peterson officiating. Burial will be in State Line cemetery in Harmony. Friends may call at the Lindstrom Funeral Home in Harmony on Wednesday before the services.

Hassinger, Herbert A.

Herbert A. Hassinger, 79, passed away Sunday, June 3, 2001 at his home in Homer, Minn.

He was born July 5, 1921 in Winona, to Herbert G. and Martha (Kamrowski) Hassinger.

He attended local schools and graduated from Winona High School in 1939. He attended St. Mary's College, Winona.

Herb served his country during World War II with the U.S. Army as a Staff Sergeant (Communications) in China-Burma-India campaigns from 1942-1945.

He married Gloria Smith of Homer, Minn. on October 9, 1943 in San Antonio, Tex.

Herb began his banking career at First National Bank in Winona after the war. He and his family later moved to Fergus Falls, Minn., where he was a cashier and loan officer with the First National Bank of Fergus Falls. He returned to Winona in 1959 as cashier for Winona National and Savings Bank. He was promoted to Vice President and Cashier before retiring in 1983.

Herb was a member of the Winona Junior and Senior Chambers of Commerce. He was a long-standing member and past president of the Kiwanis Club of Winona, and received an award for 26 years perfect attendance. He was a member and past president of the Winona United Way Campaign, member of the Winona Country Club, Cathedral of the Sacred Heart, and American Legion Post #9, Winona.

Herb loved Winona and the Mississippi River. He was an avid duck hunter, walleye and "cold-water crappie" fisherman, and loved to play golf. He will be greatly missed by his wife, children, grandchildren, and his many friends.

Herb is survived by his wife, Gloria; four children, Russ (Lynn) Hassinger of Daytona Beach, Fla., Linda (Dave) Knopick of Mankato, Minn., Brian (Mary) Hassinger and Josephine Hassinger, Winona; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Sylvia Hassinger and Dorothy Malotke, both of Winona.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, George and Edward.

Preliminary services will be Wednesday, June 6 at 9:30 a.m. at Fawcett-Junker Funeral Home with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart with Rev. Msg. Roy Literski and Rev. John Sauer concelebrating. Interment will follow at Woodlawn cemetery, Winona, where members of American Legion Post #9 will conduct military burial rites.

Friends may call Wednesday till time of services.

Casketbearers are Brian H. Hassinger, Brian Goodwin, Charles Keller, William Roth, William Doerer and Rod MacSwain.

Honorary bearers are Harold Streater, Neil Sawyer and Len Bernatz.

Memorials may be directed to the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart or to Community Memorial Hospital's "Hospice Program, " Winona.
