Alvina Courtney
Alvina Courtney, 84, of Longview, Wash., died July 27, 2004.
She was born April 10, 1920, in Dalton, to Alvin and Mabel (Clauson) Stavaas. He graduated in 1938 from Fergus Falls High School. On May 27, 1944, he was married
to Les Courtney in Vancouver, Wash., by Rev. Oscar Stavaas.
She is survived by children, James (Beverly) Courtney of Memphis, Tenn., and Jack (Linda) Courtney of Longview, Wash.; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; siblings: Orvin (Ila) Stavaas of Fergus Falls, Irene (Vernon) Miller of Rochester, Beverly (Jerry) Thompson of Fergus Falls; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Les Courtney, who died Oct. 1979; parents, Alvin and Mabel Stavaas; and three nieces and three nephews.
Burial will be Aug. 20, 2004, at Evergreen Memorial of Vancouver, Wash.
Howard Iverson
Howard Iverson, 79, formerly of Grant County, died Saturday, Aug. 7, 2004, at Broen Memorial Home of Fergus Falls.
Howard Paul Iverson was born on May 24, 1925, in Lien Township near Barrett to T. Nicolye and Anna (Neitzel) Iverson. He attended rural school in Lein Township. On October 30, 1947, Howard was united in marriage to Beulah Bruse. Besides farming, Howard also had a small building construction business. Over the years, he turned many pantries into bathrooms in the neighborhood. In 1958, they bought the farm from Beulah's parents. They were members of the Faith United Methodist Church in Norcross.
Howard and Beulah took up square dancing and enjoyed the company of fellow dancers. Howard also enjoyed wood working and puzzles. When they retired and moved to Elbow Lake in September 1992, Howard delivered meals for the Senior Nutrition program and Beulah worked in the kitchen. In January 2003, Howard moved into the Barrett Assisted Living apartments in Barrett until March 2004, when he entered the Broen Memorial Home in Fergus Falls.
He is survived by his wife, Beulah of Fergus Falls; children: Diana Iverson of Fargo, Bonnie (Eldon) Olson of Fargo, Robert (Cindy) Iverson of Norcross and Duane (Tina) Iverson of Fargo; grandchildren: John (Darla) Arvesen, Christopher and Jennifer Olson, Brent and Scott Hemingsen, Lisa Iverson, Ashley, Cody, and Heather Link and Brady Iverson; and four great-grandchildren: Michael, Ryan and Brandon Arvesen and Dominique Hemingsen; two sisters, Margaret Kjeldahl of Cyrus and Louise Pionk of Big Lake; and two brothers, Alger Iverson of Elbow Lake and Leslie Iverson of Winona. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Marion.
Visitation: Tuesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home and at the church one hour prior to Wednesday services

Daniel Wagner
Daniel Wagner, 44, of Fergus Falls died Thursday, July 29, 2004, at MeritCare Hospital of Fargo.
He was born Feb. 22, 1960, in Little Falls, Minn., to Ray and Evelyn (Jacobson) Wagner. He grew up in Fergus Falls and graduated from Fergus Falls High School. He attended Staples Vocational School and graduated with a degree in photo finishing.
He was employed by Kodak in Minneapolis for 12 years. He relocated to Fergus Falls in 2002.
He enjoyed his nieces and nephew and being at the lake, scuba diving, fishing and landscaping. He also enjoyed being an uncle, and many others claimed him as their "Uncle Dan."
He is survived by his mother, Evelyn Wagner of Fergus Falls; sister, Terri Wagner-Morley of St. Paul; twin nieces, Christie and Cassie and one nephew, Brandon, all of St. Paul; Aunt, Eleanor Gulbranson, Alexandria; Aunt Vi and Uncle Jim Mayer of Lakeville and numerous cousins and other friends.
He was preceded in death by his father Ray, maternal and paternal grandparents.
He will be lovingly missed by his family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church, Fergus Falls.

Donald Elvin Christenson, 88, of Fergus Falls died Wednesday, July 28, 2004, at Lake Region Hospital of Fergus Falls.
He was born Dec. 13, 1915, in rural Foxhome, to John and Martha (Skrove) Christenson. He was baptized and confirmed at Stiklestad Church and attended Riverside School.
On June 9, 1951, he married
Violet Haugrud at Grove Lake Church in Pelican Rapids. The couple celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary in June of 2001. After their marriage, Don and Violet farmed south of Foxhome for many years. They specialized in the dairy industry, in which the whole family participated. While farming, they also showed their cattle at the county and state fairs. During their years farming they received the Outstanding Dairy Award.
He was active in the community. He served as a director of the Farm Bureau, the American Dairy Association and also the Dairy Herd Improvement Association. He served on the Riverside School Board for 12 years, was the secretary of Stiklestad Church for many years and was a 4-H Club Leader.
The most important parts of his life were his love for the Lord and attending family activities. He enjoyed sports, especially the Minnesota Twins, playing horse shoe, auctions, hunting, and fishing.
He is survived by his wife, Violet; five children: Dale of Doran, Duane (Cindy) of Colorado, Vonnie (Randy) Johnson of Fergus Falls, Vicki (Jim) Morgan of Colorado, and ViAnn (Scott) Sampson of Fergus Falls; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and a sister-in-law, Amelia Christenson. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his brothers: Carl, Martin, Jeffrey, Ingolf, Sidney, Sigurd and Milo; and two sisters, Magda, and Lydia.
Visitation: Friday from 5 to 7 p.m. with a 6 p.m. prayer service at Olson Funeral Home. Visitation will resume one hour prior to the service at the church.

Dayle Hauger
Dayle A. Hauger, 59, Urbandale, Iowa, died suddenly on Saturday, Aug. 7, 2004, at his home.
He was born Nov. 30, 1944, in Fergus Falls, to Gerald and Phyllis (Fabian) Hauger. He grew up and graduated from high school in Rothsay. On Aug. 14, 1965, he married
Marlyce Moe. In December of 1965, he graduated from Concordia College, Moorhead.
He worked in Human Resources as a civil servant with the Department of Army. His career brought his family to St. Louis, Mo., Charlottesville, Va., Berlin, Germany, Heidelberg, Germany, Alexandria, Va., and Eldridge, Iowa. After a 34 year career with the Army, he retired March 31, 2000.
He was active in Lutheran churches throughout his life, including serving on church councils. He was currently a member of Lutheran Church of Hope in West Des Moines, Iowa. He loved to golf and spend time with his family. He also enjoyed volunteering at Living History Farms.
He is survived by his wife, Marlyce; son, Larry (Meredith) of Fargo; daughter, Michelle (Bill) Kurtz of Urbandale, Iowa; grandchildren: Alexandria, MacKenzie, and Remington Hauger, and Nathan Kurtz; his mother, Phyllis (Arnold) Shirley of Rothsay; a twin brother, Daryl (Donna) of Apple Valley, Minn.; brothers, Terry (Connie) of Vergas, Jeffrey (Susan) of Morris and Philip (Cynthia) of Bismark, N.D.; one sister, Pauline (Tim) Rinke of Dilworth; mother-in-law, Mae Moe of Rothsay; sister-in-law, Kathy Anderson of West Des Moines, Iowa; brother-in-law, Keith (Cathy) Moe of Vergas; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Gerald Hauger; grandparents, Walter and Ella Fabian, Gilbert and Alma Hauger; brother-in-law, John Anderson; father-in-law, Otto Moe; and a niece, Heidie Hauger.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Concordia College, Moorhead, or to the donor's choice.

Joann DeVary
Joann DeVary, 69, Jamestown, N.D., died Thursday, Aug. 5, 2004, at Hi-Acres Manor, Jamestown.
Joann Gail Loomer was born June 20, 1935, in Anslem, N.D., to John and Edna (Spitzer) Loomer. As a child she moved frequently with her parents and attended school in Oakes, N.D., Ellendale, N.D., and LaMoure, N.D., graduating from LaMoure High School in 1954. On April 27, 1955, she married
Paul DeVary at Angola, Ind., and they moved to Minneapolis, where she worked as a medical secretary at a nursing home. They later lived in the Battle Lake area and moved to Sheldon, N.D., in 1979 where they were foster parents for 11 years. In 1999, they moved to Jamestown. Paul died in March of 2001.
She loved to do crafts and was a Sunday School teacher and Cub Scout Leader. She was devoted to her children and grandchildren; family was very important to her.
She is survived by two sons, James (Melanie) of Dilworth, N.D., and John (Tana), Jamestown; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; thirteen foster children; and two sisters, Carol (Donald) Stewart, Clitherall, and Robin (William) Herness, Racine, Wis.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and a daughter, Sandra.
