He was born Nov. 21, 1911, one of thirteen children, in Tordenskjold Township, to H. Arnold and Adolphina "Fina" (Haldorson) Hanson. He spent boyhood and most of his adult life farming the family farm on Long Lake south of Underwood. To many, it was the most beautiful farm in Otter Tail County. He lived there for sixty-five years.

He attended school at District No. 20 in Tordenskjold Township through the eighth grade. He then devoted his life to farming and caring for his parents in their later years. He especially loved the horses he nurtured. His favorite horse was named Buck.

On Dec. 21, 1942, he married Viola Skalisky at Wadena Methodist Parsonage. The couple was blessed with three children: Anita LaVonne, Jerry Allen and Kathleen Joy. Upon retirement in 1976, they sold the main property and built a home on a small section of the farm, where they remained until 1995, when they moved into Fergus Falls.

He enjoyed hunting, trapping, reading, doing crossword puzzles, listening to music, talking Norwegian, golfing and bowling. Special times for him were the summers that his granddaughter, Laurie (Anita), would spend time on the farm. Other joys came in the traveling that Eddie and Vi spent together. They spent many winters in Arizona, as well as fun time visiting with children and grandchildren. In addition to covering the United States, they traveled three times to Europe. Most memorable were the two trips to Norway, where Eddie visited his mother's childhood home. He will be remembered for his pleasant personality and his great sense of humor and laughter.
