Nora Floen

Nora Sandahl Floen, 96, of Henning died Saturday, Sept. 11, 2004, at Henning Health Care Center of Henning.

Nora Amanda Anderson was born Jan. 3, 1908, in Nidaros township of Otter Tail County to Peter and Johanna (Johnson) Anderson. She was baptized and confirmed at Nidaros Lutheran Church, where her grandparents, the Nels Johnsons, were charter members. She belonged to the Vining Chapel Ladies Aid, Nidaros WELCA and Circle One. She graduated from District #33.

She was a hired girl for several farm families before her marriage to Leonard T. Sandahl Febb. 24, 1926. Six children were born of this union. Leonard died March 13, 1959.

She babysat for numerous families, cared for elderly people and wrote the "Vining News" for the Henning Advocate for 20 years. She loved making lefse and big buns and sharing them with neighbors and family. Her faith, family, friends and family photos were her treasures. On Oct. 10, 1992, she married Obert Floen, and they made their home in Battle Lake until Obert became a resident of the Battle Lake Good Samaritan Center. She moved to Henning and lived at Clement Manor and at the Garrett Lee House. Obert died Feb. 26, 2002. She became a resident of the Henning Health Care Center in June 2001. While there, she enjoyed Bible studies, music, visits, handshakes and sharing her favorite phrases with the staff. When she was 95, she was able to sign cards to each of her children and all eighteen of her grandchildren. She faithfully kept a diary for years.

She is survived by her children: June (Earl) Silbernagel, Billings, Mont., Irvin (Marian) Sandahl, Fergus Falls, LeRoy (Loris) Sandahl, Henning, LaVay (Larry) Wallevand, Henning, and Lou Ann (Jim) Peterson, Henning; 18 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; 14 great-great grandchildren; sister, Helen (Ted) Waskosky, Erdahl, Minn.; sisters-in-law: Myrtle (Lyle) Whitney and Bessie Gearhart, both of Battle Lake; nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was also blessed with all of Obert's family.

She preceded in death by her husbands, Leonard and Obert; parents; an infant son, Andrew; granddaughter, Shari Silbernagel; great-grandson, Brian Sandahl; brothers: Olaf, Clifford and Phillip; sisters: Hilda Benson, Alma Hagen, Selma Torgrimson and Myrtle Basina.

Visitation: Monday, Sept. 13, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home and will resume for an hour prior to services at the church; a Service of Remembrance will be 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Service: 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Nidaros Lutheran Church, rural Clitherall

Larry Humann

Larry Alan Humann, 56, Monticello, formerly of Breckenridge, died Sept. 13, 2004, at Otter Tail Lake.

He was born May 9, 1948, in Breckenridge. He graduated from Breckenridge High School in 1966 and attended Fergus Falls Junior College and Mankato State University, where he graduated with a degree in computer science. He married Judye Ferguson Sept. 20, 1969, on a beautiful autumn day in Jefferson, Wis.

His first job was at Mankato State as a computer programmer. He returned to Breckenridge in 1976 to work as Director of Computer Services for the Franciscan Sisters at St Francis Hospital until taking a job in their Corporate Office in Little Falls, Minn., in l988. He later worked for Tri Cap Agency in Little Falls and Value Rx in Plymouth, Minn., until returning to a hospital setting in Brainerd, where he took a position as Director of Information Systems at St Joseph Medical Center where he worked until Oct. 2003.

He was blessed with a loving wife and three sons. His family was his passion and priority. He was a kind, soft spoken gentleman. His demeanor, sense of humor, love of music and love of the outdoors is his legacy. He leaves a precious message that faith, strength and joy can be attained through two very contrasting lifestyles that he balanced, the importance of quiet solitude and the importance of being surrounded by good people at work and at play.

He smiled when he was fishing, duck hunting, pheasant hunting and working with his dogs. He smiled at sporting and school events of his boys from their childhoods to their college years. He enjoyed their friends and their families. He smiled with co-workers and kept relatives near and far close to his heart. He smiled with childhood friends and teenage friends and band members. He laughed with friends he and Judye met in the towns and homes they lived in.

He was diagnosed with cancer in October 2003. He held his wife and family even closer during this time and taught all around him much about life and how to live. He loved many and was loved by many.

He is survived by his wife, Judye Humann; three sons: Samuel (Traci) Humann, Richville, Joseph, St. Paul, and Andrew, Collegeville, Minn.; his mother, Elaine Humann, Fergus Falls; His sister: Marlene (Jack) Decker, Maplewood; his Parents-in-law, Dan and Charlotte Ferguson, Jefferson, Wis.; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Albert Humann.

Visitation: Thursday, Sept. 16, from 4 to 8 p.m. with a 7:30 prayer service at Grace Lutheran Church, Breckenridge

Funeral: 2:30 p.m. Friday at Grace Lutheran Church, Breckenridge

Brian Lacher

Brian D. Lacher, 48, died peacefully at home Sept. 7, 2004, surrounded by family.

He was born April 2, 1956, in Jamestown, N.D. He graduated from Fergus Falls High School, where he met his future wife, Jean in 1974 . They were married Dec.17, 1977, at Christ the King Church of Moorhead.

He spent several years working for Pepsi, starting as a route salesman in Fergus and worked his way up to the sales/plant manager position there. He later went on to oversee the plant in Jamestown, N.D., and in 1991 he moved to Sioux Falls to become the assistant sales manager. He continued his success at Pepsi and eventually became plant manager. He also attended the University of Sioux Falls Degree Completion program and received his Bachelor of Arts Degree in 1998.

At the time of his death, he took great pride in his position as the national sales manager for the Food Service Division for John Morrell's.

He was most well-known as an avid sportsman. In his free time in the fall and winter he could be found hunting anything from pheasant to antelope and elk. During the spring and summer you would find him fishing at Lake Vermillion or up in Minnesota at Battle or Jewett Lake. His love of the great outdoors also included his other hobby, golfing. He played many fun-filled rounds of golf at Westward Ho where he proudly served as the club's president in 2002. He most enjoyed these hobbies when his friends and family were with him.

Spreading his optimistic and enthusiastic spirit to those around him in everything he did, he will always be remembered as a man of exceptional character with a great sense of humor and a caring heart.

Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Jean; son, Collin (Holly) Lacher of Sioux Falls; parents, Phil and Phyllis Lacher of Clitherall; brother, Craig (Pam) Lacher; sisters: Gwen, Gail (Mike) Bender, Beth (Jeff) Tougas; four nieces; and six nephews; his dogs, Jack and Sadie; and grandpuppies, Duke and Daisy.

Funeral Services will be at The Miller Funeral Home in downtown Sioux Falls, S.D., at 1: 00 p.m. with a reception to follow.

Arla Buche

Arla Buche, 63, of rural Battle Lake, formerly of Winthrop, Minn., died Wednesday, Sept. 8, 2004, at Lake Region Hospital of Fergus Falls after a long illness.

She was born July 10, 1941, in Winthrop, Minn., to Clarence and Mabel (Gutknecht) Stresemann. She was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Winthrop and attended school in Winthrop.

She married Larry Buche July 19, 1958, in Des Moines, Iowa. They lived in the Winthrop area and in 1992 moved to the Battle Lake area. She worked for Crystal Farms in Gaylord, Minn., 3M in New Ulm, Minn., and Waldbaum in Gaylord, Minn. She had to quit working due to her illness.

She had a great love for flowers, craft shows and collecting antiques. She also enjoyed being outside and being together with her family.

She is survived by her husband of 46 years, Larry; one son, Jeff Buche of Mesa, Ariz., and his children: Candice (Glenn) Peters, Jesse (Jodi) Buche, Jent, Jacob, Kari and Jase Buche; three daughters: Cindy (Kurt) Gorr of Dalton, Minn., and their children: Rachelle (Patrick) Bergman, Ashley and Lisa Gorr; Julie (Mark) Holte of Fergus Falls and their children: Brandon, Brittany, and McKenzie Holte; Linda (Tom) Herring of Lafayette, Minn., and their children: Brooke, Taylor, Kacey and Colton Herring; one great-granddaughter, Caidyn Peters; and several aunts, nieces, nephews, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Mabel; sister, Virgene; brother, Elden; and one grandson.

Visitation: Sunday from 4 to 8 p.m. with a prayer service at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Service: 11 a.m., Monday, Sept.13, at Zion Lutheran Church of Amor, rural Battle Lake

Terry Nelson

Terry Lee Nelson, 54, Blaine, died Friday, Nov. 12, 2004, as the result of a car accident, north of Parkers Prairie.

He was born Sept. 9, 1950, to Myles and Pearl (Hink) Nelson in Parkers Prairie. He was baptized and confirmed at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Parkers Prairie. He attended public schools and was active in sports before graduating from Parkers Prairie High School in 1968. He attended the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, studying wildlife management and landscape architecture, graduating in 1973. He worked in wildlife management at Carlos-Avery State Park near Anoka for several years.

He married MaVonne Carlson July 11, 1970, at Rose City Evangelical Church and worked for Twin City Testing in St. Paul as a soil tester for 20 years. He married Michelle Beyer July 16, 1988, at Peace Lutheran Church in Robbinsdale and worked as a stockbroker for R.J. Steichen in Minneapolis until 2001. Until the present, he was a landscaper for Bachman's Nursery in the Twin Cities area. He was a member of N.R.A. and a former member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Parkers Prairie. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, photography and taxidermy work, especially his own trophy fish and birds. He was an avid Minnesota Professional Sports enthusiast and loved riding his bike, especially to work everyday.

He is survived by a daughter, JoLee (and Brian) Simpson of Shakopee; two sons, Chris Beyer and Jesse Lee Nelson both of Robbinsdale; mother, Pearl Nelson of Maple Grove; sister, Rosemary (and Dean) Johnson of Rogers; two brothers, David (and Martha) Nelson of LaCrosse, Wis., and Robert (and Jan) Nelson of Bismark; and two granddaughters, Brooklyn Simpson and Danielle Beyer.

He was preceded in death by is father, Myles, in August of 2002.

Visitation: Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church

Service: 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 17, at First Evangelical Lutheran Church of Parkers Prairie

Katherine Corey

Katherine Corey, 86, Herman, died Nov. 3, 2004, at Wheaton Community Hospital in Wheaton.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 8, at Bethel Lutheran Church. Herman, with Rev. Roger Rotvold officiating.

She is survived by her children: Linda (Jerome) Fiebelkorn of Alexandria, Milton (Diane) Corey of Herman and Clayton (Bonnie) Corey of Hoffman.

Arrangements are with Erickson-Smith Funeral Home of Elbow Lake.

Mary Waskosky

Mary Jane Waskosky, 66, Henning, died Sunday, Nov. 7, 2004, at Henning Health Care Center.

Mary Jane Buerskin was born in Urbank, Minn., Nov. 27, 1937, to Bernard and Agnes (Suchy) Buerskin. She grew up and attended school in Urbank. She married Herbert Waskosky June 30, 1964, in Urbank. They made their home on a farm near Henning. She decorated cakes and actually had her own cake decorating business. She was a member of St. Edward's Catholic Church and the Christian Mothers. She was also active in the VFW Auxiliary, worked with crafts, crocheted and sewed. She made clothing for her family. She also enjoyed drawing and she had a special love for her flowers.

She is survived by her husband, Herbert of Henning; daughter, Teresa (Adrian) Erickson, Wadena; sons, Randolph (Regina) Waskosky, Pelican Rapids, and Benjamin Waskosky, Little Falls; six grandchildren; sisters: Loretta Nygaard, Glenwood, Clementine (Raymond) Tryggestad, Viroqua, Wis., Magdeline Schlosser, Miltona, and Josephine (Jim) Erickson, Hebron, N.D.; and a brother, Daniel (Caroline) Buerskin, Lakeland.

She is preceded in death by her parents; a sister: Bernadette; and three infant brothers.

Visitation: From 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home with a 7:30 p.m. prayer service and will resume for an hour prior to services at the church
