Evelyn D. Kodym

Evelyn D. Kodym, 86, of Cromwell, formerly of Moose Lake died Wednesday, Oct. 11, 2000, in Villa Vista Nursing Home, Cromwell.

She is survived by her loving husband of 66 years, Bernard; a daughter, Janice (George) Morzinski of Boulder, Colo.; a grandson, Paul Morzinski of Perris, Calif.; a granddaughter, Mary Ann Morzinski of Vienna, Va.; a brother, Lawrence (Frances) Fryklund of St. Paul; two nieces and a nephew.

Visitation: 6 until the 7 p.m. prayer service Thursday in Hamlin-Hansen-Kosloski Funeral Home, Moose Lake and continues from 10 until the 11 a.m. Mass of Christian burial Friday in Holy Angels Catholic Church, Moose Lake. Burial will be at 1: 45 p.m. Friday in Calvary cemetery, Pine City, Minn. Arrangements are by Hamlin-Hansen-Kosloski Funeral Home in Moose Lake.

Dr. Antone William Pasek

Longtime physician

Dr. Antone W. Pasek, 89, of Cloquet died Saturday, Oct. 14, 2000, in his residence.

He was born June 5, 1911, in Cloquet to William and Frances (Jusczak) Pasek. He was raised in Cloquet and graduated from Cloquet High School in 1929.

He graduated from the University of Minnesota School of Medicine in 1935, and served his internship in St. Luke's Hospital in Duluth from 1935 until 1936.

He was united in marriage to Helen Tunsky on May 17, 1941, in Cloquet.

Dr. Pasek served the local community as a physician in private practice from 1938 until his retirement in 1983. He was involved in the founding of Community Memorial Hospital, where he was an initial member of the staff and later served as head of the cardiac care unit.

While medicine was his vocation, his passions were sports and the outdoors. He loved hunting and was an avid fisherman (even his family did not know the location of his ``secret brook trout fishing hole"). Many enjoyed his sense of humor and storytelling.

He was a member and past president of the Exchange Club, a member of the Junior Chamber of Commerce, a former member of St. Casimir's Catholic Church and a member of Queen of Peace Parish.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Dr. Pasek is survived by his wife, Helen; children Kathy Pasek of New York, N.Y., Jim Pasek of Cloquet, Michael Pasek of Coon Rapids, Minn., and Cynthia (Rick) Tope of Duluth; sisters Marion Buczynski and Rosalie Dunaiski, both of Cloquet; brothers Ed (Marge) of Sioux Falls, S.D., and John (Celia) of Hemet, Calif.; granddaughters Danielle and Erin Tope; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation: 5-8 p.m. Wednesday in Nelson Funeral Care, and continues from 10 until the 11 a.m. Mass of Christian burial Thursday in Queen of Peace Catholic Church, Cloquet. The Rev. Father Kenton Sailstad will be celebrating. Arrangements are by Nelson Funeral Care, Cloquet.

Raymond K. ``Ray" Yanagawa

Raymond K. ``Ray" Yanagawa, 61, of Eagle River, Alaska died of cardiac arrest Monday, Oct. 2, 2000, in Alaska Regional Hospital in Anchorage.

Mr. Yanagawa was born April 2, 1939, in North Kona, Hawaii, and graduated from Pahala High School. He attended Hilo Community College, earning an associate's degree in culinary arts and hotel and restaurant management. He also served as a sergeant in the Territory of Hawaii Army National Guard. He moved to Alaska in the mid 1960s. He was a chef at Prudhoe Bay and Cook Inlet oil platforms until he took a medical retirement. Ray was an avid fisherman and enjoyed gardening, berry picking and watching old movies. Through his children, he learned to appreciate hockey and loved to watch their games, as well as the UAA games. His family said, ``Ray was a wonderful husband, father and friend and will be greatly missed."

He was preceded in death by his parents, Kakuichi and Ayame Yanagawa.

Mr. Yanagawa is survived by his wife of 25 years, Margo (Clark) Yanagawa of Eagle River, Alaska; a son, Matthew of Anchorage; a daughter, Carrie of Eagle River and Purchase, N.Y.; brothers Robert of Naalehu, Hawaii, Howard of Carson, Calif., and Gilbert of Pearl City, Hawaii; a sister, Betty Tatum of Marietta, Ga.; and parents-in-law Ally and Gen Clark of Grand Rapids.

In lieu of flowers, the family would like people to donate blood at their local blood bank.

Services were held in Alaska. After the service his ashes were buried in Anchorage Memorial Park cemetery. A portion of his ashes will be scattered at a favorite fishing spot at a later date.

Franklin R. Tibbetts Sr.

Franklin R. Tibbetts Sr., 71, of Ball Club, Minn., died Saturday, Oct. 14, 2000, in his home.

Service: 11 a.m. today in Ball Club Community Center. Burial will be in Tibbetts cemetery, Ball Club, Minn. Arrangements are by Carroll Funeral Home, Deer River.

John Lundin

John Lundin, 73, of Bloomfield Hills, Mich., died Thursday, Oct. 12, 2000.

John and his wife, Maxine, enjoyed spending time at their cabin on the North Shore.

Graveside service: 11 a.m. Thursday in Maple Hill cemetery, Grand Marais. Arrangements are by Cavallin Funeral Home.

Felix S. ``Phil" Prinz

Felix S. ``Phil" Prinz, 85, of Lake Nebagamon died Saturday, Oct. 14, 2000, in St. Mary's Hospital of Superior.

He is survived by his wife, Betty; sons Jim and Tom (Sue) Erno; daughters Barbara (John) Kronenburg and Donna (Baldy) Doriott; and a brother, Ray Prinz.

Visitation: 10 a.m. until the noon service today in Brown Funeral Home, Solon Springs. Interment will be in Lake Nebagamon cemetery.

Ireene H. Baack

Ireene H. Baack, 76, of Aitkin died Sunday, Oct. 15, 2000, in her home.

Visitation: 5-8:30 p.m. today with prayer service at 8: 15 p.m. in Sorenson-Root-Thompson Funeral Home in Aitkin and continues from noon until the 1 p.m. service Wednesday in Bethlehem Lutheran Church. Burial will be in Bethlehem Lutheran Church cemetery.

Signe E. Juola

Signe E. Juola, 87, of Eveleth died Tuesday, Nov. 7, 2000, in the Arrowhead Health Care Center in Eveleth.

She is survived by her children Patricia Lampinen of Los Angeles (Ronald G. Lampinen of Eveleth), Karen (William) Wu of Ojai, Calif., and Dr. James (Sonia) Juola of Lawrence, Kan.; and eight grandchildren.

Visitation: 1 until the 2 p.m. service Saturday in United in Christ Lutheran Church, Eveleth. Burial in Eveleth cemetery. Arrangements by Cron-Sheehy Funeral Home, Eveleth.

Raymond Cotty

Raymond Cotty, 86, Ashland, died Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2000, in Ashland Health and Rehabilitation Center, Ashland.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret.

Survivors include a son, Dennis Cotty; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; special friend and companion, Marge McCutcheon; a brother and three sisters.

Visitation: 2 until the 3 p.m. funeral service Friday in Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church, Ashland. Interment will be in St. Agnes cemetery, Ashland. Arrangements by Frost Home for Funerals, Ashland.

Magdalena M. Denzel

Magdalena M. Denzel, 95, formerly of Coleraine died Sunday, Nov. 5, 2000, in Duluth.

She was born March 24, 1905, to Wendelin and Anna Katharina (Lang) Eisenlauer. She married Eugene K. Denzel. She was employed at Mangseth's Coffee Shop in Coleraine for 12 years. She was a member of Mary Immaculate Catholic Church of Coleraine and the Bovey Women of the Moose Lodge 1061.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene in 1986; and a daughter, Helen Riley in 1999.

She is survived by her daughter, Emilie Shoemaker of Blaine, Minn.; a son-in-law, Jennings Riley of Duluth; grandchildren Walter (Diane) Shoemaker of Duluth, Heidi Riley of St. Paul and Peter Riley of Babbitt; three great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation: noon until the 1 p.m. Mass of Christian burial Saturday in Mary Immaculate Catholic Church, Coleraine, with Monsignor Bernard Popesh officiating. Interment in Lakeview cemetery, Coleraine. Arrangements by Peterson Funeral Chapel, Coleraine.

Ann J. Hutar

Ann J. Hutar, 87, of Ely died Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2000, in the Ely-Bloomenson Nursing Home.

She was born Aug. 28, 1913, in Ely to John and Ann (Grahek) Movrin. She was a graduate of Ely Memorial High School and a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church, the Women's Foresters, KSKJ Lodge 112, Slovenian Ladies Union and the Ely Slovenian Chorus. On May 31, 1937, Ann married Peter J. Hutar.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Peter, March 8, 2000; and a sister, Mitzie Phernetton.

Survivors include her son, John (Tam) Hutar of Plymouth, Minn.; a daughter, Mary Ann (Jim) Kobe of Bloomington, Minn.; a sister, Molly Movrin of Ely; grandchildren Michael and Mark Hutar, Christopher Kobe and Stephanie (Hutar) Bank; nine great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mass of Christian burial: 10 a.m. Friday in St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Ely, with Father John Sustarsic as celebrant. Burial in Ely cemetery. Arrangements by Kerntz Funeral Home, Ely.

Ernest V. Oberg

Ernest V. Oberg, 78, of Grand Rapids died Tuesday, Nov. 7, 2000, in Itasca Medical Center-CNC Unit.

Survivors include sons Richard (Leota) and Randy, both of Cohasset; daughters Betty (Howard) Christman of Cohasset and Rosemary Johnson of Grand Rapids; brothers Herbert of Deer River and Lawrence of Grand Rapids; a sister, Violet (Walter) Oberton of Grand Rapids; three grandsons; two great-grandchildren; and special friends Micki and Roy Girtz of Grand Rapids.

A celebration of his life: 2-4 p.m. Sunday in the Libbey Funeral Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to the Itasca Hospice of Grand Rapids. Arrangements by Libbey Funeral Home of Grand Rapids, (218) 326-4000.

Robert B. Lyons

Robert B. Lyons, 75, of Grand Rapids, formerly of Deer River, died Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2000, in his home.

Bob was born Oct. 30, 1925, in Ball Club to James and Ruby (Bradshaw) Lyons. He grew up and attended school in Ball Club and Deer River and graduated from Deer River High School. He entered the Navy in October 1943 and served in both the Atlantic and Pacific theatres.

He married Beverly Rydrych on Dec. 27, 1943, in Minneapolis. They made their home in Deer River, and in 1972 moved to Grand Rapids. For 30 years, Bob was Grand Rapids' ``milkman" for Lakeland Creamery until it closed in 1973. He then drove truck for Casper Construction and retired in 1990.

He was a member of Grand Rapids VFW, American Legion and Military Order of Cooties.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Donald.

He is survived by Beverly, his wife of 57 years; children Detra Lyons of Maple Grove, Minn., Robert J. of Max, Brad of Cohasset and Debora Lyons of Effie; a brother, James of Grand Rapids; a sister, Phyllis Olson of Cohasset; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Visitation: noon until the 1 p.m. service Saturday in Libbey Funeral Home Chapel. Burial with full military honors is at 3:30 p.m. in Olivet cemetery, Deer River. Arrangements are by Libbey Funeral Home, Grand Rapids.
